I would like to know that the expression » carve a niche for myself » is commonly usued.

I suppose it means to make a special position for myself.

And can I change it into ‘make my own position’?

Is the expression, » to make my own position» correct and understandable?

Thank you in advance.

Oh I am so sorry. And thank you for asking, Cagey.
I copied the sentence from my file.
But I did not copy the entire sentence.

The original sentence is » I managed to carve a niche for myself as a specialist in dermatology.»

And I would like ot know if I can change the expression ‘carve a niche for myself’ into another one ‘make my own position’.

I know ‘carve a niche for myself’ is used in this sentence as ‘make a specialt position for myself’.

But the expression,’make my own position’, is correct and understandable?
