Speaking to every person you find, reading everything thoroughly, and exploring every possible nook and cranny will increase how long it will take you to beat Disco Elysium. But it’s all so, so worth it.

For my first playthrough, I clocked in at 63 hours. A few of those were likely due to sitting with the game paused or in the main menu. Outside of those hours, I was incredibly thorough with my first run. Every side quest that was received was investigated and completed. I read through every line of dialogue I encountered and every character was returned to multiple times if new information was discovered, just to see how they would react.

For my playthrough, I finished on Day 7. This is important to note, as there are several days in Disco Elysium and depending how you play, you might finish on another day.

In terms of things that may inflate your playtime, save scumming is one of them. Personally, I refused to do this, and it’s something I would recommend players avoid. It’s better to experience everything as it stands rather than loading to get a “perfect” outcome. No, you don’t have to replay the game, though you may want to in order to see all the possible repercussions to your decisions.

The game is around 30 hours long, give or take 5 hours. It took me 32ish hours to complete. The game is heavily character-focused and requires a huge amount of reading, so if those aren’t your thing, you might not be interested.

If you think you might like it, I’d recommend buying it on Steam and playing for 2 hours, to decide for yourself, as it won’t be the game for everyone. Everything in the game is fairly well encapsulated in those first 2 hours, so if you decide it’s not your cuppa, you can still return it. I did enjoy myself and easily lost myself in each play session. The writing is very good, the characters are entertaining, and the mechanics are unique.

It is worth your time, if you enjoy the genre.

I’m no native speaker, but a fast reader, and I did a somewhat thorough playthrough in 37 hours, being on the quest train all the time.

You can definitely go longer than that by checking out the books and other things you can buy in the game, also if you take more time to do what you want, or read on a leisurely pace, i could see someone go 50 hours on a playthrough.

So I’d say 28 hours minimum, 35-40 average, 50+ for very relaxed play.

Wait, so if the timit limit is expired the game can end without you solving the case?Is the time limit 8 days as stated above? Im currently on day 4 and i just turned the church into a nightclub.

No time limit for *finishing*, if you like to faff about you can go on for as long as you want, but there are points of no return both for getting certain items and quests and also for the final stretch after which you finish the game (also it’s very clearly stated that there will be «no going back»).

At first I thought (or believed cuz outlets described it that way) that there were 7 days, but that’s certainly not the case.

My advice: relax. Don’t try to solve every quest asap. It’s more fun that way.

Disco Elysium is a big game, with multiple areas to explore, dozens of tasks and long days in which to conduct your investigation or just explore Martinaise. But how long is it exactly, and how many in-game days are there? We’ll go over these basics here.

How Long is Disco Elysium?

Obviously there’s no clear standard for the length of a game, as different people will play the same thing in different ways. That goes double for Disco Elysium, where so much of what’s in the world is optional or at least separate from the main mystery. Aside from looking for the killer, you can start a nightclub, hunt for insects, sing karaoke, investigate a local curse, become a communist revolutionary, or just get drunk and fall into a gutter somewhere. You don’t have to do any of these things though, and consequently there’s a big variation in different playtimes.

But let’s get into numbers. A post from the developers’ blog said a playthrough of the game would last 30 hours if you’re rushing it, 90 if you’re doing every little thing, and averaging at about 60+ hours for most people.

Speaking personally, that seems pretty generous. As somebody who did what felt like a fairly comprehensive playthrough and most of the side-missions I could find, an end-to-end playthrough took a bit more than 20 hours. I’m certain I missed a lot of stuff that later runs will catch, but I didn’t feel like I was rushing it. On the contrary, I was trying to soak everything in, shine a light in every corner to see what I could find.

Disco Elysium has its own in-game calendar in which events change from day-to-day, whether it’s the weather, the location of particular characters or the accessibility of certain areas.

In terms of a maximum amount of days programmed in, however, it’s reported to be 10, taking you from Monday in the first week to Wednesday the following week.
