Eret, Son of Eret is a former dragon trader who has allied himself with Hiccup and the other Riders of Berk. He was once a notorious dragon trapper who worked with the evil Drago Bludvist. Over time, Eret began to see the error of his ways after being saved by Stormfly. He then teamed up with the riders of Berk to help defeat Drago.

Tall, muscular, and handsome, Eret can appear arrogant and overconfident, but beneath his cocky exterior lies a true hero with a good heart. In fact, Eret has been a constant presence around the Training Grounds, providing assistance to young dragon trainers. He has not only proved to be a great help at the School of Dragons, but he’s always ready to charge into battle on his Rumblehorn, Skullcrusher, to defend the Archipelago.

Should you need to pay a visit to Auction Island, Eret will be glad to help you navigate through the archipelago’s seedy underbelly. As a former dragon trader, he used to be a familiar face on the notorious island. While he has long cut ties with his old dragon trader buddies, he still knows his way around and is willing to help you navigate the ins and outs of this lawless land. Here, Eret can help you get information on the whereabouts of enemies of the School of Dragons, or the two of you can team up to release captive dragons from the clutches of nefarious traders. If you need his help at the School of Dragons, you can seek him out near the docks over at the Training Grounds.

Yesterday, Eret and I journeyed to Auction Island. I had never met a dragon trainer up close. I thought about Eret, who always seemed so at ease on these types of missions. Did he miss the hunt? Did he miss the money that came with dragon hunting? These were the questions that ran through my head as we sailed on his ship to Auction Island.

After we docked, Eret escorted me to the hub of the vile dragon trade. Although we didn’t have the protection of our dragons, we went ahead determined to track down Harald Forkbeard once and for all. We crossed the island with ease as Eret led us through secret tunnels and around rocky cliffsides.

Once we reached the Auction Zone, I saw Eret’s lips curl into a scowl. I knew then that his dragon trading days were over. As for me, I was just grateful to have such a knowledgeable and trustworthy companion in Eret, Son of Eret.

Deleted Scene: Hiccup vs. Eret

The scene starts off with Hiccup on the boat looking towards Eret, Son of Eret, saying «May I?». Instead of getting snatched by a dragon, Eret says, «Well, since Drago won’t care whether I deliver you dead or alive, I’ll give you as long as it takes to remove that loud, oversized head of yours. How’s that?» while swinging his sword.

«Fair enough.» Hiccup says, then, turning to Astrid, he says «Is my head really oversized?»

Astrid replies, «Your hair is.»

Eret climbs up the side of the ship, and swings toward Hiccup on a loose rope, saying, «‘Cept when they’re stolen by you!» Hiccup cuts the rope keeping all the barrels in place, which lets them roll all over the place. Eret lands on one, and he jogs in place to keep himself from falling.

«Right,» Hiccup says. «My good friend the dragon thief and his ice-spitting buddy.»

«Your days of rescuing dragons are over.» Eret says. «Drago has found the ice-spitter’s cave!» He takes multiple swipes at Hiccup, all of which he ducks under. He advances on Hiccup. «Soon all your dragons will be working for his dragon army.»

«Ah!» Hiccup says with fake enthusiasm. «The dragon army. How- how exactly did he pull that off, dragons aren’t the easiest to TRAIN!!» His words are interrupted by Eret throwing the barrel his is standing on at Hiccup, who deflects it with his arm. Eret grabs Hiccup by the collar and brings him closer to his face.

«Even dragons know better than to cross Drago Bludvist. Is this the part where you try to impress me?» Eret says.

«Yeah, that part’s coming.» Hiccup says. He is released by Eret. Hiccup cuts another rope and holds on while it pulls him to the mast. On his way up, he yells, «Rope burn!»

«Come now!» Eret exclaims. «Drago’s about to take over the world! Your either with him or against him, and as I see it, against is the losing side!»

Hiccup lands clumsily on the mast, and has to grab on with his knees and arms to prevent himself from falling. He pushes himself to a standing position as Eret advances on him. He stumbles over some more rope and is on his back while Eret towers above him. «Any last words?» Eret asks.

«No, just this.» Hiccup cuts another line, which catapults them both up. Eret screams «You idiot!!» while Hiccup flashes him a smug smile. They both catapult towards the jagged rocks below. Toothless swoops in and grabs Hiccup in his saddle, and Eret in his claws.

«Make it stop. » Eret yells. «Aaaahhh!»

«Hold on.» Hiccup says. They land gently on the deck. «So?» Hiccup asks.

«So what? You didn’t even do anything! Your dragon did it all!» Eret cries.

«Exactly.» Hiccup says. «Once you’ve earned his loyalty, there is nothing a dragon won’t do for you.»

«They’ve done enough for us, haven’t they?» Eret says, looking at his crew. He turns back to Hiccup as he hears him scratching Toothless and saying, «Who did? Who saved the big ‘ol grumpy loudmouth from splatting on the rocks? Yes, you did, you did.» Hiccup looks up at Eret and smiles at him, while Eret glares at him with an expression that clearly said, ‘I really hate this guy’.

This is when the scene returns back to where you know it- Snotlout takes Hiccup from the boat.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 introduced fans to the character of Eret. He became popular instantly but there’s still more to know about him.

Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon 2 is often regarded not only as one of the best animated sequels, but simply one of the best sequels ever. It not only amps up the themes of the first, but it tells a more mature story and ages the characters from the previous film, something rarely done in animated films.

One addition How to Train Your Dragon 2 gave the franchise is Eret. Once a Dragon Trapper, but now a Dragon Rider, he quickly became a favorite among fans. As popular as he is, here are ten things everybody should know about the Son of Eret.

10 He’s Played By Kit Harington

In both How to Train Your Dragon 2 and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Eret is played by Kit Harington. The first television show Harington acted in was Game of Thrones, where he played Jon Snow. He then went on to play Eret, Salen Kotch in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Black Knight in the upcoming Eternals.

Harington got the role of Eret in 2012, two years before How to Train Your Dragon 2 was released. Since then, he’s played Eret with the enthusiasm and charm he needed.

9 He’s Worked With Bad Guys

Before joining Hiccup’s team, Eret used to be a Dragon Trapper for Drago Bludvist. But when he saw the strong bond Astrid and the others had with their Dragons, he decided to leave his former life behind and help free the other dragons.

Not only did he work for Drago, but he may have also worked for Grimmel, as explained in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. He recognized Grimmel’s dart and commented on his methods, implying that the two have at least crossed paths.

8 He Was Skullcrusher’s Second Rider

In the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, everyone from Berk chose a dragon to ride. Hiccup had Toothless, Astrid had Stormfly, and Stoick had Skullcrusher. But when Stoick gave his life to protect Hiccup, Skullcrusher was left without a rider.

That’s when Hiccup decided it was best to give Skullcrusher to Eret. Ever since, they had an unbreakable bond not only as dragon and rider, but as friends.

7 He’s One Of The Tallest Berkians

According to the official How to Train Your Dragon website, Eret is 6’4″. For comparison, Hiccup is 6’1″, Gobber is 5’9″, and Snotlout is 5’6″.

This makes Eret one of the tallest people in the series. Stoick was taller than him, towering at 6’9″. Aside from him, though, hardly anyone knew what the top of Eret’s head looked like.

6 He Was Inspired By Han Solo

When creating Eret, inspiration was taken from Han Solo of Star Wars. This inspiration does make sense, since both of them were initially only motivated by themselves. It was only after they met a selfless hero that they decided to devote themselves to the greater good.

They also both have animal companions to help them on their adventures. Han has Chewbacca and Eret has Skullcrusher. Some may even say that these companions are also their co-pilots.

5 He Appears In Two Video Games

Just like how he appears in two films, Eret only appears in two video games based on the franchise. The first one, called Dragons: Rise of Berk, is a mobile game released in 2014. The game is a simulator that allows you to train dragons and customize the island of Berk. Eret is one of several characters who can help the player harvest materials to build Berk.

The second game, called School of Dragons, is an online game that focuses more on players raising their individual dragons. There are games and activities the dragons can participate in to increase their stats. Eret appears in several missions in the game and helps you train your dragon.

4 He Appears In The Comics

In addition to two of the video games, Eret also appears in the comics based on the franchise. In all three of them released (Burning Midnight, The Serpent’s Heir, and Dragonvine), he has a more substantial role in the Dragonvine comic.

In Dragonvine, he helps Hiccup and Astrid take care of dangerous dragonvine growing. He would have appeared in the fourth comic, The Fire Tides, if it hadn’t been canceled.

3 He Has Two Swords

Vikings during these times needed a weapon to defend themselves. For example, Hiccup had a sword that could ignite and spray out lethal gas. Eret is similar in that he chooses the swords as a weapon, although they may not have as many abilities as Hiccup’s.

Eret may have twin blades, but that doesn’t mean they’re identical to one another. One of them is rounder, while the other is pointier. One also has two ribbons hanging from it, and the other doesn’t have anything. They don’t do anything special like Hiccup’s, but they must do something right if Eret still uses them.

2 He Has A Boomerang

Another weapon of Eret’s choice is the Returnwing, otherwise known as the Boomerang. Given to him by Hiccup, he often uses it for defense in the comics.

In addition, he sometimes sets in on fire for offensive measures, not entirely unlike Hiccup’s sword. It shows that the two are still learning from one another.

1 His Design Changes

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World takes place one year after How to Train Your Dragon 2. As such, you can probably imagine the characters wouldn’t be wearing the same outfits they wore a year ago. In his first appearance in the second film, a notable feature of his was a fur pelt.

In the third movie, his vest now has dragon scales. Something that he kept in his design is his owl necklace. Before, he wore it around his neck, but now it rests softly on his chest as a pin.
