Scream is a 1996 slasher film directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. The film revitalized the slasher film genre in the mid 1990’s, similar to the impact Halloween had on late 1970’s film, by using a standard concept with a tongue-in-cheek approach that combined straightforward scares with dialogue that satirized slasher film conventions.

The film is followed by Scream 2.

A year after the murder of her mother, a teenage girl is terrorized by a new killer, who targets the girl and her friends by using horror films as part of a deadly game.

The film begins with seventeen year old called Casey Becker answering a phone call with a man on the other end, who says he has the wrong number. However, he calls again and again. At first he just chats with Casey and asks her questions, but from there he quickly becomes very hostile, making threats against Casey’s life. He explains, that if Casey can answer the horror based trivia questions right, she and her boyfriend, Steve get to live. The caller reveals Casey’s boyfriend is tied up outside on the patio. She gets a trick question though, «Who is the killer in Friday the 13th?» The man on the other end doesn’t say, if it is the series or the first film. She answers Jason but in the original film, it’s his mother, Mrs. Voorhees. When she turns the patio lights back on, she finds Steve has been disemboweled.

The caller promises Casey another round, but Casey refuses. She then attempts to escape the house and onto the lawn, but is confronted by a cloaked figure wearing a mask and armed with a large knife. She is then chased down and gets stabbed repeatedly by the killer. At the same time, her parents arrive and find the house trashed. Panicked, her parents then rush out of the house only to see Casey’s corpse hanging from a tree in the lawn.

Sidney Prescott is attempting to cope with the anniversary of her mother’s brutal rape and murder. The following night, the killer begins to stalk Sidney, calling and making threats. Ghostface then breaks in and attempts to murder Sidney, chasing her up the stairs. However, Sidney manages to barricade herself in her bedroom and then calls the police, forcing the killer to flee the area.

Sidney tries to sort through the trauma of being attacked and, in reaction to circumstantial evidence, points an accusatory finger at her boyfriend Billy Loomis. She decides to stay at the home of her friend Tatum Riley and Tatum’s brother Dwight, nicknamed Dewey. While there, she receives a phone call from the killer. He says, Billy Loomis is not the killer and she will find out who the killer is soon. He also tell her, that he also killed her mother.

Already under considerable stress, Sidney is forced to deal with the truth of her own attack by ambitious tabloid television newswoman Gale Weathers. Gale is responsible for a tell-all book revealing the promiscuous affair between Sidney’s mother and her convicted killer, Cotton Weary. Her suspicions, that Cotton is innocent are increased through a conversation with her. Due to the spate of murders, school is soon canceled as a precautionary measure, leaving the building temporarily abandoned. Despite the closing, the school principal is stabbed to death by Ghostface while in his office at the school. Unaware of the principal’s death, Tatum’s boyfriend, Stu «Stuart» Macher, throws a huge party at his house. When Sidney and Tatum arrive at Stu’s house they see Randy Meeks, a horror movie fanatic. Soon after the party begins, Tatum goes to collect some drinks from the garage, However, the door gets locked behind her. Ghostface then appears in the garage and brutally murders Tatum by jamming her head in the garage door.

Meanwhile, Gale sensing the potential for a major scoop, has hidden a video camera inside the house. She then goes outside and begins searching for anything suspicious, with the help of Dewey. The party goers soon receive word of the principal’s death and the majority of them head to the school, leaving few people, including Sidney, alone in the house.

While Sidney and Billy are upstairs, the killer appears and stabs Billy. Sidney escapes out the window where she sees Tatum’s dead body. Randy, unaware of what’s going on and watching a horror movie, narrowly avoids death, when the killer hears Sidney’s screams. Inside Gale’s news van, her cameraman Kenny lets a terrified Sidney inside. Kenny and Sidney witness the killer nearly kill Randy on the video, but it has a 30 second delay and when Kenny steps outside the van, his throat is slashed by the killer.

Sidney escapes the van to find Dewey stepping out of the house but falls down to reveal a knife in his back. Sidney runs to Dewey’s car and tries to escape but the keys aren’t there, the killer shows her that he has taken the keys, then tries to kill her, but he fails. Sidney runs back to the house where she finds Randy and Stu, who are presented as the only remaining suspects. When they both accuse each other of being the killer, Sidney does not know, who to trust and slams the door in their faces.

Billy comes falling down the stairs, alive but seriously injured. Billy asks for the gun, that Sidney has found and she gives it to him and he opens the door, letting Randy into the house, Randy makes a fuss that Stu has gone mad, Billy gives an evil smile to Randy and says «We all go a little mad sometimes», then shoots Randy, who falls to the floor seemingly dead. Billy tells Sidney the blood on his chest is corn syrup (as used in the production of Carrie). Sidney turns and finds Stu, who unveils the voice-changing box.

Finally, the truth is revealed: The murders were planned and carried out by Billy and Stu, as a means for getting revenge on Sidney’s mother Mrs. Prescott. Sidney’s mother had an affair with Billy’s father, Hank Loomis and this was the reason for the demise of Billy’s parents’ marriage. It is also revealed that it was Billy who murdered Sidney’s mother and not Cotton Weary, who was convicted of the murder based upon Sidney’s testimony. Stu and Billy also reveal, they have abducted Sidney’s father and it was his cellphone they used to make their ominous phone calls. They plan to murder Sidney and frame her father as the killer by shooting him in the head, making it seem he committed suicide after the murders. Stu and Billy then stab each other in non-vital places so it appear that they’re the only surviving victims of Mr. Prescott’s rampage. Things begin to fall apart though, when Billy stabs Stu too deeply and he begins to bleed profusely. Gale shows up and tries to shoot Billy, unfortunately the safety is on and he knocks her out. Billy is about to kill her, when Stu notices Sidney is gone. Sidney manages to surprise and stab Billy with an umbrella and he collapses on the floor. Stu tries to kill Sidney, but she gains the upper hand and pushes a television onto his head, killing him. Randy is shown to be still alive, which he credits to the fact that he’s a virgin, but Billy is still alive and attacks Randy. He then attacks Sidney and is about to stab her, when Gale shoots him. Randy, back on his feet, warns Sidney that killers always «come back to life» for one last scare. Billy immediately springs to life and Sidney shoots him in the head, finally killing him. Sidney’s father Mr. Prescott then appears and Sid and Randy untie him. Dewey is later shown being carried away on a stretcher, alive and conscious. Gale makes an impromptu report on the events of the previous night, as the authorities finally arrive on the crime scene.

Scream received mostly positive reviews from film critics, who appreciated the shift from the teen slasher films of the 1980s and their «endless series of laborious, half-baked sequels.» Because of the success of the movie, three more sequels were made.

It received six Saturn Awards and two MTV Movie Awards.

Controversy [ ]

Following the release of Scream, the film has been accused on several occasions of inspiring copy-cat crimes.

Scream Murder [ ]

In January of 1998, 16-year-old Mario Padilla and his 14-year-old cousin, Samuel Ramirez, stabbed Mario’s mother, Gina Castillo, 45 times. This became recognized as the «Scream Murder» after the boys admitted to being inspired by Scream and Scream 2. The two boys confessed to planning to use the money from Gina’s murder to fund a killing spree. They wanted to purchase two Ghostface costumes and a voice-changer, like the one used in the film.

During the trial, a psychologist who studies the effects of violence on children stated, «There were a whole bunch of reasons why they acted out that way, but did the movie provide a blueprint? Absolutely!«

The court case was expected to highlight the effects of violent media on teenagers, but presiding judge John Cheroske ordered that evidence pertaining to Scream be barred. He also requested that the case not be referred to as the «Scream Murder.» Finally, he barred the media access to the courtroom, stating simply that he intended for the case to be a murder case and nothing more.

Scream Attackers [ ]

On January 17, 1999, 13-year-old Ashley Murray was stabbed multiple times by his friends Daniel Fill and Robert Fuller. Despite the multiple stab wounds, Murray survived after he was found by an elderly man walking his dog. The duo who stabbed Murray became known as the «Scream Attackers» after they confessed to watching Scream shortly before the attack. Drawings of Ghostface’s mask were found among their possessions as well. Their actions were also blamed on their home life, where they were exposed to physical abuse, drugs, and several instances of black magic. Murray however maintained in his testimony against the pair that the film was their primary influence in the attack.

Columbine High School Massacre [ ]

Following the Columbine High School Massacre, perpetrated by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the media turned a heavy focus towards the effects of violent films, games, and other media on teenagers. The United States Senate Commerce committee held a hearing about Hollywood’s marketing ploys towards youth culture. The committee focused primarily on horror films. The opening scene of Scream, featuring the murders of Steven Orth & Casey Becker, was shown as an example of negative media, which could be viewed by children.

It’s over 20 years old, but Scream truly stands the test of time and is one of the best slasher films to ever grace the silver screen. This film single handedly turned me onto the horror genre; it resonates heavily with my generation and has had a huge impact on our perception of horror.

Why is Scream important?

After a string of shitty ’80s stalk and slash films, Scream revamped the dying genre by pastiching the horror subgenre and redefining its trite formulaic structure. It is a masterfully crafted piece of metafiction that calls attention to the clichés/tropes of your typical slasher film and then subverts them. Despite being humorous and hyperbolically self-referential, Scream manages to remain entirely suspenseful from beginning to end.

The script

Hats off to Kevin Williamson for writing this script, this is how to make a debut. The humor is very tongue-in-cheek, gushing with both direct and indirect horror and pop culture references, from Ricki Lake to Freddy Krueger, and is clearly tailored for the MTV generation. Scream even acts as a social criticism of its teenage audience. «You make me so sick. Your entire havoc-inducing, thieving, whoring generation disgusts me,» is an actual line by an adult in the film. Williamson’s portrayal of American teenagers stands the test of time being completely relevant to teens today. For example:

The script also acts as a social criticism of the media and reflects the media-saturated culture from which it sprang. When the murders take place, news vans and reporters swarm the school trying to collect insight from people who may or may not have shared a class with the victims. They treat violence as a spectacle, a juicy story to be consumed over morning coffee rather than its actual savagery. Gail Weathers represents an industry that exploits and capitalizes on victims. The film’s ending hits the nail in the coffin and closes with Gale, bloody and battered, ready to report her «exclusive eyewitness account of this amazing breaking story». News vans and reporters once again swarm the scene of the crime to be the first crew to get the scoop. All that’s really missing from the movie is Gail yelling at her cameraman, “Murder sells, Kenny!” because thanks to OJ, highly profiled murder cases are all the rage.

The direction

Wes Craven usually never disappoints (though, let’s not forget Cursed or Vampire in Brooklyn for which, we forgive you). He has an eye for capturing the horror in everyday life, which is why Scream is so visceral. It is set in an American suburb, a setting that we can relate to, it’s familiar — this could be your town, these could be your friends, and this could be you. He’s conditioned us to fear everyday occurrences like the ring of a telephone or to be home alone in the dead of the night. Scream obviously gets most of its buzz from the opening scene. Craven pretty much sets the tone for the entire film in this 13-minute sequence. The scene starts off as a classic case of the wrong number, but when the phone rings for a second time, the audience starts to feel uneasy. Upon answering the second call, Craven hits the audience with a Dutch angle of Drew Barrymore. It’s very subtle, but it sparks some serious sinister vibes as the camera slowly moves into a tight shot of just Barrymore’s face and the double doors with large windows over her shoulder. When Drew exits the frame, the camera lingers on the doors, emphasizing the darkness outside and how anyone could be out there lurking about the shadows. Well done, Wes, well done.

Slasher tropes Scream keeps

The theme of retribution tends to be backdrop for slasher flicks. The killer is often seeking retribution for a perceived wrongdoing; the wrongdoing could’ve been to the killer themselves or someone related to them. For example, in Friday the 13th (1980) Mrs. Voorhees sought retribution for her son who died under the watch of irresponsible camp counselors. She then spends the duration of the movie killing off camp counselors at Crystal Lake. Scream keeps this prevalent theme with momma’s boy Billy Loomis. He is punishing Sidney for the sins of her mother, Mrs. Prescott. Mrs. Prescott is the cause of his own mother, Mrs. Loomis, abandoning him.

Slasher tropes Scream subverts

Characters are more than just their archetypes. You aren’t rooting for the killer to maim this group of vapid teenagers. The characters develop personalities and we actually empathize with them. For example, final girl Laurie Strode from Halloween (1978) is your seemingly perfect teenager. She doesn’t indulge in the sinful activities of her peers, eats all her fruits and veggies and is an average girl with a normal life. We don’t really get to know her on a personal level. We see her, but we don’t really feel for her. Scream’s final girl Sydney Prescott is layered. Not only trying to evade the killer, she is also dealing with her personal relationships (with her boyfriend Billy) and coping with the murder of her mother. She is more than just a final girl to us. We connect with her, we feel for her when she cries alone in a bathroom stall and we root for her when the killer strikes.

The red herring is not actually a red herring. Everything in the film tells you that Billy is the killer, yet as the audience we tell ourselves, “Nah, it’s not him. The movie just wants us to think that.” Then when he dies, we are satisfied with ourselves for not being tricked by the film. The joke’s on us when it’s revealed his death was faked and he actually is Ghostface. Randy even claims the red herring to be Sidney’s father, trying to convince the audience that Billy is in fact the killer. We consider this plausible, but we don’t accept it as entirely true because there isn’t quite enough evidence to nail Billy.

We have two killers. Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger, Leatherface, etc. all are one man shows. Scream throws a curveball by revealing not only Billy as the killer, but Stu as well.

Not quite dead. This is a trope where the killer, who was mortally wounded, comes back to life. As Billy lay dying on the floor, Randy says, “Careful. This is the moment when the supposedly dead killer comes back to life, for one last scare.” Billy starts to rise and Sidney shoots him point blank in the head. She then says, “Not in my movie.” So Billy is actually very much so dead (as is Stu) because in the end, they are just teenagers. In contrast to monsters like Freddy and Michael who have a supernatural mysticism to them, Williamson creates an entirely different type of monster with Billy and Stu, one that is familiar and all too human.

Refusal of narrative closure. Stalk and slash movies never truly have narrative closure. They end one of three ways: the monster triumphs, like in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer; the monster is defeated but only temporarily, like in Halloween (1978); or the outcome is uncertain, like in Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), we end with Leatherface spazzing out in the middle of the road as the final girl gets away or in Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) where the final frames are of Freddy snatching Nancy’s mother through a window. We know these guys are still alive and active. We know they are going to strike again, so a sequel is inevitable when the narrative is left open ended. With Scream, we have a concrete ending. Both Billy and Stu die, so essentially there is no killer left to terrorize and all is well once again in the sleepy town of Woodsboro. Obviously the later installments were due to the first’s financial success, but we do not have the same killer in each installment like we do with other slasher movies. There is a new killer with a new motive in each film and there is always narrative closure in each installment.

I could talk about this movie all day. There’s much more to be said and I’ve only just scratched the surface. I didn’t talk about Scream’s use of violin crescendos to mock the overly dramatic scores of its predecessors, the Ghostface mask as a postmodern rendering of the Expressionist composition «The Scream» by Edvard Munch, the use of technology, and its growing role in society, etc. This movie is both very much in your face, winking at you after each reference (“Jamie, look behind you!”), and shrewdly subtle (like using the last names Loomis and Mackenzie), that some of the references might go right over your head. I watch this movie every Halloween and Scream continues to be the smartest kid in the room.

Сценарий «Scary Movie» был выставлен на продажу в пятницу в июне 1995 года, но не получил никаких заявок. К следующему понедельнику сценарий стал предметом больших торгов между множеством киностудий, включая «Paramount Pictures», «Universal Studios» и «Morgan Creek Productions». Съёмки фильма проходили в период с 15 апреля 1996 года по 14 июня 1996 года. Фильм планировалось снимать в школе города Санта-Роза, штат Калифорния, однако руководство школы после прочтения сценария отказало в этом. Тогда съёмки были перенесены в Хилдсбург. В процессе съёмок от некоторых изначальных идей Кевина Уильямсона в силу различных обстоятельств пришлось отказаться. Актрисе Роуз МакГоун пришлось пожертвовать цветом своих волос — она специально перекрасилась в блондинку для того, чтобы цвет её волос отличался от цвета волос актрисы Нив Кэмпбелл. Также пришлось отказаться и от некоторых видов смертей — первоначально планировалось, что Татум умрёт от упавшей на неё двери гаража, но в итоге была реализована идея ассистента Кевина Уильямсона, заключающаяся в смерти посредством дверцы для кошки на двери гаража.

Первоначальный съёмочный материал вызвал некоторые нарекания продюсера фильма Боба Вайнштейна, а именно, ему не понравилась маска убийцы. Тогда он предложил на выбор семь масок, каждую из которых необходимо было опробовать. Однако после съёмок одной из сцен с участием Дрю Бэрримор отснятый материал понравился Вайнштейну и он оставил имеющуюся маску. Саму же маску убийцы нашёл Уэс Крэйвен в одном из небольших магазинов в Калифорнии. Для придания лицу Дрю Бэрримор должной натуралистичной испуганности, Уэс Крэйвен часто рассказывал ей жестокие истории о том, как животные дерутся между собой.

В российский прокат вот-вот выйдет «Крик» — пятая (и первая за десять лет) серия славной франшизы, которая в девяностых с помощью киноманского юмора вдохнула новую жизнь в жанр фильмов ужасов. Это также первый «Крик», снятый после смерти культового режиссера Уэса Крэйвена, — что не помешало вернуться к своим ролям звездам оригинальных фильмов Кортни Кокс, Нив Кэмпбелл и Дэвиду Аркетту. «Лента.ру» поговорила со всеми троими о том, что это возвращение для них значит.

«Лента.ру»: Каково было после такого большого перерыва возвращаться к этим, уже давно ставшим культовыми персонажам?

Дэвид Аркетт, исполнитель роли шерифа Дьюи: Это было очень весело — хотя, конечно, и немного грустно из-за того, что Уэса с нами не было. Но я люблю играть Дьюи и люблю работать с Кортни и Нив. И новички франшизы — Джек Куэйд, все остальные молодые актеры — просто замечательные. То, как органично они взаимодействовали друг с другом в кадре, напомнило мне о нашей компашке времен съемок первого фильма. Я немножко взял их под свое крыло. Брал их с собой в пешие походы, катал на своем трицикле, старался поднимать им настроение, как мог.

Ваши персонажи отличаются редкой живучестью — по сравнению со всеми, кто их окружает. А в чем, на ваш взгляд, заключается главная причина живучести самого «Крика»?

Дэвид Аркетт: Думаю, дело в том, что «Крику» всегда удавалось идти в ногу со временем и меняться вместе с ним. С выхода предыдущей серии прошло десять лет, а за эти годы вышло столько фильмов ужасов, которые мы можем обыграть! А сколько было страшных интернет-феноменов! И в принципе мы живем в эпоху бума хорроров — они даже «Оскары» выигрывают!

Новому «Крику» есть чем поживиться

Нив Кэмпбелл: Каждый «Крик» должен отвечать требованиям времени еще и в плане технологий. Десять лет назад у всех появились мобильные телефоны с интернетом — и местоположение персонажей вдруг стало возможно отследить, а значит, их проще найти. Новое время — новые технологии. Так же и в новом «Крике» — теперь, например, стало возможно запереть все двери в доме нажатием одной кнопки на телефоне. Представляете, что это значит для такого фильма ужасов, как наш? (смеется) Это, с одной стороны, усложнило создание кино — ведь в наше время намного проще выяснить, кто есть кто, кто может скрываться под этой легендарной маской. С другой стороны, это открывает новые возможности, делает историю правдоподобнее. А значит, страшнее.

Что еще делает новый «Крик» уникальным?

Дэвид Аркетт: Новый актерский состав — кстати, городок Вудсборо больше не выглядит таким однородно белым. И новому фильму удалось очень интересно увязать все, что происходило в Вудсборо в прошлом, с событиями в настоящем и с будущим, которое ждет франшизу.

Нив Кэмпбелл: Да, молодые актеры по-настоящему прокачали наше кино. Но надо сказать, что и новые режиссеры — Мэттью Беттинелли и Тайлер Джилетт — по-настоящему хотели почтить память Уэса Крэйвена и не подпортить его наследие, сделать настоящий «Крик». В то же время они сумели привнести и свой стиль. Их предыдущий фильм «Я иду искать» был отличным. «Крик», конечно, намного более кровавое кино — и если вы любите кровавые хорроры, то останетесь довольны. Мне кажется, нам удалось сохранить все то, за что ценят франшизу. Много юмора, много постмодернистских отсылок как к классике хорроров, так и к новым фильмам ужасов, несколько наблюдений о киноиндустрии как таковой — и очень много страшного, конечно.

Кортни Кокс: Это точно самый кровавый «Крик» из всех. Ну, и вообще, мне кажется, это такой смелый шаг — возобновить франшизу спустя десять лет. Ведь ты должен сделать что-то оригинальное, что-то действительно новое, иначе какой был смысл после такой паузы возвращаться к этим фильмам? И новые режиссеры сумели, сохранив этот. Черт, мне так нравится это слово, но теперь я не могу его произнести. (смотрит на Кэмпбелл)

Нив Кэмпбелл: Постмодернистский?

Кортни Кокс: Да! Мэтт и Тайлер сумели, сохранив эту постмодернистскую природу «Крика», ее осовременить. Это очень мета-фильм, и он ориентирован на сегодняшний день.

Это первый «Крик», снимавшийся без Уэса Крэйвена, настоящей легенды кинематографа. Каким вы его запомнили? Какими воспоминаниями о нем больше всего дорожите?

Дэвид Аркетт: Уэс был удивительный, и его характер так трудно при этом описать словами. Он был очень мягок в общении — даже когда говорил: «Дэвид, ты сейчас был ужасен. Это невозможно использовать». (хватается за лицо) Это произносилось с такой нежностью, и ты не знал, как реагировать. «Уэс, скажи же, что именно мне сделать. Режиссируй мной!» А он такой: «Просто сделай это снова. И сделай лучше. Быстрее. Правильнее». Берет меня за плечи — и поворачивает в кадре, говорит: «Просто сосредоточься». Жалуюсь, что это не работает. А он отвечает: «Придется нам снимать «Крик 2», чтобы добиться от тебя игры получше». И ведь действительно пришлось! Ну а кроме шуток. Пару раз Уэс находил время поговорить со мной как мужчина с мужчиной, и эти разговоры изменили ход и моей карьеры, и моей жизни. Для меня честь называть его своим учителем.

Нив Кэмпбелл: Ох, было бы невозможно передать, каким был Уэс, одной фразой или одним воспоминанием. Он был невероятным человеком. Больное, в хорошем смысле слова, чувство юмора. Уйма энергии. Настоящий лидер на площадке, заражающий этой энергией всех вокруг. И он лучше всех на свете знал, как снять толковый фильм ужасов.

Кортни Кокс: И при этом вел себя, как дуралей.

Нив Кэмпбелл: О, еще какой!

Кортни Кокс: Он как-то на площадке засмеялся, и это превратилось в настоящий приступ. Он сидел вот так вот, сжав руки в кулачки под подбородком, смеялся и не мог остановиться. Я его в процессе сняла на телефон. Боже, мне нужно найти эти кадры. У него всегда находилось время на какую-нибудь глупость.

Телефонный незнакомец сначала как будто бы флиртует с девушкой, а затем признается, что находится рядом с ее домом. Кейси живет вдалеке от всех, и незнакомец прекрасно об этом знает. Девушка запирает все двери, но сквозь одну из них видит у дома своего парня Стивена (Кевин Патрик Уоллс) в крови, привязанного к стулу. Маньяку в карнавальном костюме и страшной маске удается выманить девушку из дома, после чего он жестоко убивает молодую пару.

Год назад городок Вудсборо уже сотрясала новость о жестоком убийстве: была изнасилована и убита мать одноклассницы Кейси и Стивена – Сидни Прескотт (Нив Кэмпбелл). После того как в городе произошло двойное убийство школьников, репортеры вспомнили и о трагическом происшествии в семье Прескотт. Сидни все еще не оправилась от шока, кроме того, судебный процесс по делу об убийстве ее матери еще не окончен. Главный подозреваемый в деле – Коттон Уири (Лив Шрайбер), а главный обвинитель – Сидни – она видела Коттона в ту страшную ночь рядом со своим домом. Правда, есть люди, которые сомневаются в его причастности к убийству, ведь он заявляет, что был тайным любовником матери Сидни, но к ее смерти не имеет никакого отношения.

Убийца – киноман, поклонник хорроров, почти каждую свою жертву он расспрашивает о различных известных фильмах ужасов. Зачастую и идеи своих убийств он черпает из ужастиков. Жертвы могут уцелеть только в том случае, если будут руководствоваться сводом определенных правил, характерных для фильмов ужасов; 1) ни в коем случае нельзя заниматься сексом; 2) нельзя употреблять алкоголь и/или наркотики; 3) лучше никогда не говорить «я сейчас вернусь»; 4) подозревать следует всех. Правила, действующие если убийца уже рядом: 1) не следует спрашивать «кто там», 2) не нужно идти и проверять, что там за странный шум. Но самое главное правило – не кричать, так как это бесполезно.

Интересные факты о фильме «Крик»

После выхода картины продажи телефонов с определителем номера резко выросли, впрочем, так же увеличился спрос на карнавальный костюм убийцы. Кроме того, возросло количество нападений на молодежь имитаторов телефонного убийцы-киномана.

У Кортни Кокс и Дэвида Аркетта (полицейский) на съемочной площадке начался роман. Через несколько лет они узаконили свои отношения.

Первоначально Сидни Прескотт должна была сыграть Дрю Бэрримор. Но она настояла на том, что если она сыграет Кейси, которую на 12-й минуте фильма убьют, то это заставит аудиторию подумать, что дальше может произойти все что угодно, и финал «Крика» будет еще более непредсказуем.

Рабочее название фильма было «Очень страшное кино» (Scary Movie). Спустя всего 4 года в прокат вышел пародийный фильм с таким названием, который высмеивал основные эпизоды из «Крика». Оба фильма выпустила одна кинокомпания.
