How Much Can you Earn with Brave Browser?
1. What is Brave Browser?
It’s been about 10 months since Brave Rewards first became available in Singapore. But how much can you really earn with these BAT tokens collected from Brave Browser?
For those who have not heard of Brave Browser, it is basically a browser that blocks ads, trackers and allows you to earn money for viewing ads. That’s why it is called Basic Attention Token (BAT). It pays you for your “attention” to view ads. On top of it, the Brave Browser is faster (3-6x), more secure and safer.
Here is the detailed explanation in my previous blog post if you are keen to know more about how it works.
2. How to Earn Money on Brave Browser?
I have been using Brave Browser since Apr 19 and I have collected in total 1925 BAT tokens till date. I would say this is one of my passive income streams and you too can build one for yourself.
If you are a content creator (owns a website, YouTube channel or etc.), you can earn more from referrals & tips. Else, you can still earn money if you are willing to sell your “attention” to view the ads.
Users have the options to choose how many ads they want to receive per hour. The maximum right now is 5. But if you find it too spammy, you can reduce it to 1 or 2 and you receive fewer BAT tokens.
Alternatively, if you don’t even want to receive ads but just want to enjoy the privacy and security feature, just turn off the “Brave Rewards” feature.
The payout date to your wallet will always be around the 6th of each month.
3. How Much Can You Earn as a User?
Here is a summary of how much BAT tokens I have collected thus far. BAT is an ERC-20 token that is publicly traded on the exchange. The figures shown below are based on the closing price of BAT token at the date of writing. (about US$0.32)
The blue bar charts are what you can potentially earn from viewing ads as a regular user. How it works is an ad would pop up at the corner of your screen, click it, view it, and you get paid BAT tokens for your attention.
A new feature that recently just rolled out this year is what they called “Sponsored Images”. Instead of having pop-up ads every hour, it can just be a big beautiful background image that appears on your tab page.
This is an example of how a sponsored image would look like. The advertiser, in this case, BlockFi, can just show their image on the user’s new tab page. Then you get paid BAT tokens for viewing this image.
As of 2020 YTD, I have accumulated about US$30+ for clicking and viewing these ads. That is just from 1 user. You could imagine asking your partner/family members to do the same and multiply that by the number of users.
And also, that is just from 1 device, my desktop. Brave Browser is also available on Android/iOS. You can earn extra BAT tokens by viewing ads on your phone if that is where you spend more time on.
4. How Much Can You Earn as a Publisher?
The orange bar charts are what you can potentially earn as a content creator. As long as you own a website, YouTube channel, you belong to this category. If you are just a regular user, you can skip this part.
As a publisher, there are two ways you can receive BAT tokens.
First is by their creator referral program and second is through people tipping you.
As a user of Brave Browser, you can tip others with BAT tokens if you like their content. This tipping feature has already been integrated on websites, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit and even Github. That is how pervasive Brave Browser is expanding and this is just the beginning.
From time to time, I do have people tipping me some BAT tokens that they found it to be helpful or insightful. Special thanks to these people if you are one of them!
The third way a publisher can earn money is through publisher-integrated ads. This works exactly the same as how Google put ads on your site through Google AdSense. The difference is on how revenue is being shared. But you can be assured Google doesn’t pay you a dime as a user.
For such ads on Brave Browser, 70% of the revenue would go to the content creator, 15% to the user who views or click that ad and the remaining 15% will go to Brave. So users do get paid not only from pop-up ads, sponsored images but also publisher-integrated ads in the future.
This feature is still currently in development and it has not been officially rolled out yet. But there is an option to test out the beta version now. It should be live soon by the end of this year.
5. Price Action of BAT Token
Unlike regular dividends that are denominated in dollars, the BAT tokens you received from viewing ads is a cryptocurrency token.
BAT is denominated in BTC and the value of BAT token fluctuates up and down. But BAT is less volatile compared to the thousands of altcoins in the crypto forest. You can see from the chart above. It doesn’t swing wildly.
The price action of BAT token is strong as crypto is now at the start of a major bull run in the years to come. BAT recently see a big jump in price to an all-time high of US$0.44 cents before retracing down to about US$0.37 now.
But generally, BAT is on a clear uptrend.
What this means for you is the same amount of BAT collected today have a higher chance to be worth more tomorrow. Though the reverse could play out also. Anything is possible in crypto.
Assuming that BAT token remains at a conservative price of US$0.30, you are looking at somewhere between US$50 – US$60 per annum when I prorate it.
And also this is for 1 user and 1 device (desktop). I am excluding other factors like more advertisers coming onboard, higher frequency of ads and new ad features that Brave Browser is going to roll out in the future. The amount you can earn should be more as I am just being conservative here.
6. Summary
Brave Browser is one of the more successful and notable crypto projects when it comes to real user adoption, legitimacy and utility.
As Brendan Eich mentioned, you would be surprise with how much a browser can actually do. It is not just a static page where people surf the net.
Brave Browser is changing the way we interact with browsers and digital advertising industry is just one component of it. A trillion-dollar component.
Recently, Brave Browser integrated a Binance widget allowing users to buy crypto directly.
They also launched Brave Together where you can do a video call directly on the browser. Do try it out, it’s quite fun. I am looking forward to many more features to come as a publisher.
If you are interested to use Brave Browser and get started, do refer to my previous post for the walkthrough. It includes a step-by-step guide on how you can convert BAT tokens to cash also. Enjoy!
How Much Money is 1,000 Views Worth on Medium?

How much money can you make by writing on Medium? This is one of the most important and most frequent questions I get asked. And honestly, I understand why.
Although the best and most successful writers are those who don’t write for money but rather for the love of the craft, it’s totally natural to want to know how much you’ll be compensated for spending hours working. Of course I love to write, but I’m motivated by knowing that I earn when I write.
Every time I publish a story, I hope it makes me at least enough to buy me a coffee. And I don’t think anyone should feel guilty about that.

You see why this is a more open-ended question that you might think at first. Yes, it’s possible to earn thousands. I’ve seen people do it. I do it myself. But there’s no guarantee.
That’s why I choose to measure writing income with a different metric: dollars per view.
In this article, I’m going to break down the two different ways to measure how much money you can expect per 1,000 views, and I’ll explain to you four strategies to improve that ratio.
I have also created a video here which describes the same:
How much money is 1,000 views on Medium worth?
I’ll be upfront: there are two different ways of looking at this — by month and story.
First, you can look at your monthly views. This is the simplest metric to measure because Medium puts it all right there:
Screenshot from author stats a few months ago.
You can easily calculate each month. For example, in April I got
The second metric is by an individual story. And the weird thing is, the trend doesn’t continue.
This brings me to the most interesting thing about Medium: higher-viewed stories tend to earn disproporionately more. This means that stories that one story that gets 1,000 views will almost always earn more than 2 stories that earn 500 views put together. This is because the earlier views are always worth less than the later views. How do I know? Look at the earnings chart over time:
Screenshot from story stats and earning stats
You can see that even though traffic is relatively low as the story ages, there are still disproportionately large spikes later on. If you break it down by day, you notice that fewer views are worth nearly the same amount of money later on:
Why do later views earn more money on Medium?
To fully understand this, you have to know how Medium’s payment model works. At its simplest, you get paid based on read time. More people read your stuff, you earn more money.
But of course, it’s not exactly that simple.
See, it also has to do with how much someone reads overall. This can be confusing to break down, so I want to do a little thought experiment here.
It also has to do with read time. If I read a story that’s 1 minute long and a story that’s 9 minutes long, both fully, the author of the 9-minute story gets 90% of my revenue. The 1-minute author gets just 10%.
I love the way Medium puts it:
Imagine an author writes about fly fishing. She finds an audience of fly fishing enthusiasts who subscribe to Medium primarily to read her stories, meaning she receives a strong share of reading time from each of her readers. In contrast, an author who writes about a wide variety of topics might receive smaller shares from a broader audience of readers, who also read a variety of other authors. While the generalist will often earn a lot through the first total reading time part, the fly fisher is well equipped to earn through this share part — even with a smaller audience. — via Medium’s help pages
Other factors include external versus internal traffic, topic, and other factors Medium doesn’t tell us about. They say on their blog that “your daily views and reading time are not the only input into your daily earnings.”
So why are later views worth more?
This is because, in the first burst of views, almost all views are from frequent Medium readers — the people who have the app, the notifications, who read the email digest religiously, who do almost all their daily reading on Medium.
Then, later, you get views from people who are sometimes on Medium — the folks who hop on once a week, who only click on a Medium digest story if it looks particularly amazing, who are quite picky with who and what they read.
Finally, in the later stages of your story, you get the very rare Medium readers. They happened to check their email, your story happened to be recommended, and they only read that one the whole month.
As different types of readers find your story, as a rule, their value as readers tends to increase. You might get a frequent reader on month 7, but you’re more likely to get a rare reader.
In my case, my monthly pay to views ratio is lower than on my highly-viewed stories because a lot of my stuff does not get widely viewed. Most of my views come from the stories I publish that get 100–500 views. Additionally, I write a lot of stories about Medium. Those stories are usually only read by people who write on Medium, and as a result probably read a ton on Medium, too.
Ultimately, this means that a lot of my audience reads not only my stories, but other stories, too. Hence my overall money earned per 1000 views is fairly low.
How Can You Improve Your Views to Money Ratio?
1. On Medium, writing is a long game.
You know what Medium has that Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook don’t? A long tail. What I mean by that is that stories don’t earn one day and never get a second glance tomorrow — they keep cropping up to readers.
2. Curation is key to longevity.
Focus on curation. Curation is the only kind of traffic that ensures longevity as Medium recommends it not once, but time and time again.
Medium recommended me this story that Kyrie Gray wrote four months ago.
