How to Astral Project
Enter a State of Deep Relaxation
The first step is to relax both mentally and physically. The best time for this is in the morning after sleep. A state of deep relaxation is necessary for this to occur, so choose a spot in the home where there is great comfort. Astral projection is better to preform alone, in a dark atmosphere, so be sure to close the shades.
Lie down with closed eyes and clear the mind of all thought. Concentrate on the body and how the body feels. The goal is to be in a state of complete relaxation.
Flex the muscles in the body one by one, and then loosen them, until all tension is released from the body. Take deep breaths and let go of any tension in the chest and shoulders. Focus on the deep breaths and let go of all worry. It may be helpful to hold a quartz crystal to heighten the vibrations to the chakra.
Move the Soul from the Body
For this step a hypnotic state is necessary. This is generally called a hypnagogic state. Allow the body and mind to approach sleep. Being at the edge of sleep and wakefulness is known as being in a hypnotic state. This step is crucial to astral projection.
To reach this state keep the eyes closed, and let the brain wander to a certain part of the body, such as the foot. Focus on the foot until it is visualized perfectly. Focus until all other chatter in the mind falls away. Use the mind to move the particular body part, but don’t physically move it. Do this until it seems like it is physically moving.
At this point expand the focus to the rest of the body. Start moving arms, legs, and the head using just the mind. As long as this focus is kept, the whole body can be moved with just the mind.
State of Vibration
As the soul is in preparation to leave the physical body, many experience vibrations that come in different frequencies and varying waves. Do not fear these vibrations, as fear will break the meditative state. Giving into the vibrations is necessary for an out of body experience.
The Silver Cord—What Is It and How to Use It
Visualize the room where the out of body experience is taking place. Begin moving the body, by using the mind, to get up. Get up from where the body is lying and walk across the room. Then turn and observe the physical body lying on the bed. This will become a clear astral projection if the feeling is of observing the body from across the room. This means that the conscious self has separated from the body. This particular step can take a lot of practice; but for some is very natural.
The soul will remain connected to the body with something called a ‘silver cord.’ This cord will guide the soul back to the body. Once the soul has re-entered the body, begin psychically moving your body, and return from the meditative state.
Exploring the Plane
Once the art of projecting the soul from the body has been completed, confirmation is necessary that the body and soul were in two different planes. Instead of looking back at your body, turn and leave the room and begin to examine objects in another room. Making mental notes of shape, color and size and any other detail is very important.
Then return the soul to the body and physically go into the room just visited and examine the object. See if the details of the object are the same as what is in the mind. In each subsequent session, visit places that are less familiar, and focus on an object in the same way. Look for details that were never noticed before, and after the session physically look at the object and verify these very details. After this is repeated several times, the out of body experience can be at places completely unfamiliar.
Are There Any Dangers to Astral Projection and How It Can Heal the Sick?
Be sure to ask for protection during out of body experiences that are in places that are foreign. Imagine the body bathed in a white glowing light, as if a cloud is surrounding the body, or is inside of it. This is protection against negative energy. As long as there is no fear of the astral projection, no harm will come, and the ‘silver cord’ will never weaken.
It can be possible to heal others during an out of body experience. The sick person needs to be envisioned and visualize a bright light in the hands. Put these hands on the sick person’s head and abdomen, pouring this light into them.
The Rope Technique
Another technique that is used in astral projection is called the rope technique. This is considered to be the most accessible method.
First relax the physical body and visualize each muscle and feel the vibrational state. Once in the state, imagine a rope or cord hanging down above you. Using the subtle body, grasp the rope with both hands. The physical body must remain completely relaxed.

As it turns out, anyone can learn the skills required to begin astral projection, and it can be a profoundly positive, life-changing experience. So, what exactly is an out of body experience? In the simplest terms, astral projection is about separating your spirit, or essence, if you prefer, from your physical body. Although this might sound daunting or even frightening, you are in complete control of what happens. You remain connected to your physical form at all times and are always free to return, but while you’re projecting you can explore what’s called the “astral realm.”
Essentially, it involves reaching a new kind of purely mental or spiritual awareness. When you’re in this place, you are disconnected from the concerns of the body and can focus purely on your deepest nature. Today, we’ll simply focus on the most fundamental elements of astral projection, offering you an easy step-by-step guide that you can repeat as often as you like. The more you practice these steps, the easier it will become to instigate an out of body experience and to remember what you’ve learned during your astral projection.
Astral Projection Step 1. Create The Right Atmosphere
The right conditions for astral projection are very similar to those required for meditation.
The ideal space and environment checklist:
You may find that bed is the ideal space for this exercise, whether you are just waking up or will shortly be going to sleep. However, other people prefer to stay on the floor, either lying on a soft surface or sitting on cushions. If you can think of any special touches that help you feel calm (such as soothing music or an incense burner), feel free to add those as well.
Finally, do remember to switch off your phone, and to ask anyone else in the house to give you some privacy.
Astral Projection Step 2. Reach A Hypnotic State
To enter a hypnotic state, you want to relax almost to the point of falling asleep. Begin by breathing slowly and deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth. As you do so, focus on breathing from your diaphragm rather than your chest. Do this for at least a few minutes, and notice the slowing of your heartbeat.
Next, focus on each body part one by one, deliberately loosening all of the muscles as you go. Start at the top of your head, imagining your forehead muscles letting go of all of their built-up tension.
Then, work all the way down to your toes. If you’ve done a body scanning meditation before, the procedure is exactly the same here.
By the time you finish, you should be in a deeply relaxed, highly suggestible state. It is at this point that you’re maximally primed for projection.
Astral Projection Step 3. Enter Into A State Of Vibration
Even if you’re used to practicing meditation, this stage of entering into a state of vibration should be new to you.
Allow yourself to notice tiny vibrations in your body. As you focus on these, they will begin to come in waves and at apparently different frequencies. This can be a little unsettling when you are astrally projecting for the first time, but there is nothing to fear. You can exit your hypnotic state at any time, and if you become too nervous then you may leave that state involuntarily.
Try to relax into the waves of vibrations as they come. This is your soul temporarily preparing itself to leave your body behind. Once you’re used to out-of-body experiences you may find that the vibrations also bring a feeling of peace. If you don’t think you feel any vibrations at first, don’t worry. Simply continue to breathe deeply, and they will arrive in due course.
Astral Projection Step 4. Move Your Soul From Your Body
You’ve now arrived at the most crucial stage of astral projection: moving the soul from the body.
However, this can involve quite a bit of effort at first, and it will need to be done in stages.
You’ll know you have achieved genuine astral projection when you feel like you are gazing at the body as something truly separate from your soul or self. Some people manage to do this the very first time they try, and others need to practice the exercise many times before success. This is not an indicator of your talent or ability, so don’t give up.
Astral Projection Step 5. Stay Lucid/Aware By Focusing
It’s so important that you remember astral projection isn’t just about what you do when you’re traveling out of your body. It is also about how you conduct yourself in everyday life. If you become very good at focus and concentration outside of astral projection, you’ll take these skills into your projection journey and the whole process will become simpler.
Some good ways to boost your general focus include daily meditation and mindfulness exercises, as well as self-reflective hobbies such as diary writing. Anything that keeps you lucid and aware is an asset when you’re learning astral projection.

But, how do you actually do it? Here’s my quick and easy guide to mastering the art of astral projection, how to keep safe while doing it and even how to push yourself further and become an astral explorer! You also have the option of getting guidance from a professional.
A Quick Guide to Astral Projection
Astral travel, out-of-body experiences or astral projection is when your soul separates from your body and travels throughout the other realm.
Although it sounds a bit terrifying (and it can be, if you haven’t prepared yourself or trained properly), it’s actually one of the most spiritual and beautiful aspects of being alive; your consciousness literally elevates to a whole other plane of existence and is at its most pure form.
Learning how to manage it can result in some of the most extraordinary experiences as you explore beyond the conscious, earthly realm.
How to Astral Project: A Step by Step Guide
Absolutely everyone is capable of astral projection – all it takes is a clear mind, training and self-control. Here’s how you can train yourself to astral project:
Step 1: Be in your hypnotic state
Ever felt that you weren’t really awake, but weren’t really asleep either? That’s your hypnotic state. Personally, I’d say this is more achievable to get to after you’ve first woken up than before you go to sleep, as I find I end up falling asleep!
This step requires a lot of patience and training. I personally use mindful breathing to ensure I get to my hypnotic state just after I wake up, as this allows me to be in the right balance, without being too alert.
You can astral project at any time of the day, and it’s really down to personal preference – the best advice I can give you is to explore the times of day that you feel at your most potentially hypnotic state-adjacent and then go with that feeling.
I’ll also say that I find it much easier to prepare myself for astral projection while I’m alone in the room. There’s just something about someone else’s energy surrounding mine that interferes with my aura. On the same note, try to create a calm environment – close the curtains, make sure there are no distractions outside (noises, light), or even put on some relaxing music to help you create the right mood.
Step 2: Imagination and mindfulness
Once you’re comfortable in your hypnotic state, the fun part begins!
Breathe deeply, and imagine each part of your body releasing tension. Let yourself sink deeply into relaxation – try not to think about how to astral project at this stage, just focus on getting into the right state of being.
You have to use the power of your imagination to ‘move’ parts of your body, all while keeping completely still with your eyes closed. Try imagining your foot, then imagine moving your toes. Once you’ve nailed this down, start imagining moving other parts of your body – without actually moving anything physically. Try your hands, fingers, arms, legs and more.
Step 3: Lean into the sensations
Once you’re comfortable remaining in your hypnotic state but are able to mentally move the parts of your body, you might start to feel some interesting sensations.
Personally, I feel some vibrations, as well as start to see a golden, shimmering aura around my body. This is when I know that I’m on the right track!
The first time you see or feel these sensations, it can be a little scary – but there really is nothing to fear. This is just the soul starting to release from the physical realm and your body. So lie back, enjoy it and then try to control the frequency of the vibrations. It will take some getting used to, but soon you should be able to even start and stop the vibrations at will.
Some astral projectors like to use quartz crystals at this point, which can help control the speed of the vibrations. Place the crystal on your third eye while your eyes remain closed, and you’re breathing deeply. Envision the crystal radiating a golden light, or any color that appears to you, to help you clear your head. You can also use the crystal later on in your astral projection.
Step 4: Leave your body
You’re about an astral project! Once you can control your vibrations, imagine your soul rising up from your body and walking to the other side of the room. Congratulations – you’ve just begun an astral projection!
It will take some doing, or even baby steps, but you will master it eventually. For me, this was the longest part of the process. Practice makes perfect, however.
A good way to start is to astral project parts of your body – raising a leg, or moving an arm, for example. Once you’ve done that, make your soul sit up from your body then stand up. Then look around the room, and look back at your sleeping body.
If all goes well, you will be able to feel your consciousness as completely separate from your body, and will be able to gaze down at it – this part can be slightly alarming at first, but you’ll get used to it very quickly.
Step 5: Recognize your anchor
Once you start astral projection, you’ll notice a fine, silver cord connecting your body and your soul. This is like an anchor, keeping your soul tethered to your body, so that they won’t be separated while you astral project.
The first few times you successfully astral project, try to notice how your silver cord feels, and where it is, so you can always be certain that you’ll find your way back to your body.
If you want to practice this step, then by all means do: your soul should slot back into your body very quickly and easily; I feel it like a magnet connecting. Once you re-enter your body, you can physically wiggle your fingers and toes to make sure you’re fully back in your body.
Step 6: Go exploring
Once you can comfortably walk across to the other side of the room as you astral project, it’s time to start exploring around!
Start small – I personally started by exploring other rooms in my house, then the area around my house, my neighborhood, and then I took things bigger.
You could also try checking out objects you might have missed on the physical plane in another room – notice the small details – color, shape, size and any imperfections, for example. You’;ll be amazed at how it seems different while astral projecting.
Even if you return to the room later, after you’ve returned to your physical body and see the same object, you’ll be amazed at how different it looks.
This is a technique to use also while you’re exploring – with each exploration, of a new place or even a familiar place, take in details that you would never have noticed in the physical world. If and when you return on the physical plane, verify those details.
Step 7: Become an astral explorer on the astral plane
Once you’re comfortable with astral projecting to the earthly plane, it’s time to think bigger: the universe!

Once you’re astral projecting, envision the sick person you’d like to heal. Even if they’re not physically in that location, it doesn’t matter, as earthly matters such as time and distance are irrelevant on the astral plane.
Focus on gathering positive and healing energy, and foster that whaling power in your astral hands. Pout one hand on their forehead and abdomen, and put your healing light into them.
Concentrate on the flow of energy, and feeling the love and healing energy for the person.
Safe Astral Projection: What You Need to Know
Of course, astral projection is one of the most amazing, literally out of this world experiences that anyone can train themselves to experience, however there are certain aspects of it that you need to be aware of, and avoid:
Harmful Spirits and Dark Forces
As a conscious being, you are usually unaware of the naked forces of evil surrounding the everyday plane of existence. As an astrally projected soul, you are coming into the same plane of existence as potentially harmful entities and forces.
Keep your protective shield around you, and avoid these when possible (you’ll know these harmful spirits when you see them – they appear differently for every astral explorer). Keep focused, and keep yourself protected, and you’ll stay out of harm’s way.
Another easy way to make sure your astral projection is completely positive and harm-free – bless the room before you get into your hypnotic state.
Breathing Trouble
Something that a lot of astral explorers experience during their initial process of astral projection is difficulty in breathing.
This is a little frightening, but perfectly normal. It’s your physical body’s way of expressing shock at your soul’s attempt to separate itself.
You are not in any physical danger; your body is just trying to reassure itself while your soul is the initial process of separation.
Soul’s Inability to Return to Physical Body
When I mentioned earlier to take notice of your anchor cord, it was for this reason: although I’ve personally never heard reports of souls being unable to return their physical bodies (and I guess we’d never even hear of these incidents, as there would be no physical way to do so), this is why astral projection has to be managed correctly.
Keep focused on and aware of your anchor cord while astral projecting, to ensure your body and soul remain connected and your soul can return to your body.
Physical Death
Another concern that seems valid but is unlikely in practice is physical death.
The theory is that, should your soul become disconnected, your body will die, although this scenario is highly unlikely. According to many astral projectors (including myself), the only way your body could come to any physical harm is if someone enters the room where your body is while you’re astral projecting and harms it.
Of course there are some steps you can take to ensure this doesn’t happen – secure the room from where you’ll be astral projecting (your soul can go through locked doors!), and ensure you are in a safe place before you begin astral projecting.

Astral Manual — How to experience your first astral projection, with a method that works FAST

If you’re interested in exploring non-ordinary states such as out-body-experiences and have been attempting a conscious projection from the waking state, you might have already discovered that trying to maintain awareness when entering into sleep is one of the most difficult methods to start with. Relaxing the body, quieting the mind, and accessing an altered state deep enough for a projection requires a lengthy preparation routine, and it’s not uncommon for the first signs of vibrations to immediately disappear as soon as you notice them.
I understand how frustrating this can be because of the effort spent trying to access this state. It can make projection seem impossible and give you the impression that you do not possess the capability. You have most likely been taught that you need to maintain awareness for a prolonged period while you’re body gradually falls asleep and walk this tightrope between consciousness and unconsciousness. I’ve experienced this frustration on countless occasions and easily wasted 1–2 hours trying to reach that perfect state. The result was only continual failure.
However, there is a far easier method, a method that can bring you success in not months, but days. Personally, it is something I succeeded with unintentionally and once I experienced it, I never looked back. I came to learn it was referred to as the “dream-exit-induced lucid dream”). Several astral projection authors have already mentioned this approach and advised the trainee to attempt a projection not when entering sleep, but instantly AFTER waking up from a dream.
I include these quotes from lucid dream authors for the reason that they have clearly recommended an identical approach to enter a non-physical reality and for the fact that a lucid dream can be easily and swiftly converted into an astral projection.
The reason a projection can occur quite readily after awakening from a dream can be attributed to several factors:
I would not claim that there is one supreme method for every individual, but if you are a frustrated beginner who has not yet succeeded you could project very quickly if you consider this method. Before you retire to sleep, affirm either mentally or out-loud that “ the next time I wake up I will remain still”, “ I will wake up consciously after my next dream”, and/or “ the next time I wake up I will instantly remember to attempt to astral project”. Alternatively, you can affirm this throughout the day and visualise yourself succeeding in waking up and remembering your goal. The intention is the key to success with this approach, and as long as your desire is sufficient there will be a moment when you actually wake up from a dream with your body lying still and your objective firmly in mind.
Lying still isn’t a prerequisite for making this method work, but it certainly helps. However, I must still stress that even if you have moved a great deal, even for as long as 60 seconds, and you believe you have remembered your intention far too late, you must still perform an exit technique. Although you may not succeed with this particular attempt, it is likely you will wake up from your next sleep cycle 1–2 hours later and perform an exit technique far sooner, as soon as 30 seconds, in an almost automatic, involuntarily manner. It could take you by surprise. This is because you have set your intention and it isn’t very difficult to remember a recent action. Perform an exit technique with every early morning awakening, from the hours of 5–7 am, whether you have moved or been awake. It is possible to project if you have been awake as long as three minutes before you remember to perform your technique. Every automatic and consistent repetition of exteriorisation techniques will take you a step closer to achieving your goal the next time you awaken. Eventually, you will notice that you can project even if you have moved your physical body. If you have spent 3–4 minutes attempting to project and success hasn’t been attained, simply fall back to sleep and make your attempt on either the next awakening or night.
As the days pass, you’ll find yourself remembering your goal earlier and earlier with each successive night. At first, upon awakening, it may take 3 minutes to remember your intention; but gradually, as each night passes, the time spent recalling your intention will rapidly start to decrease. It could reduce to 2 minutes on your third night, then down to 1 minute on your fourth night, and finally, as soon as the 7th day, you’ll be remembering within 20–30 seconds upon awakening what you are supposed to do. In this state, you are primed for a non-physical experience. It’s that state closely resembling the famed mind-awake-body-asleep condition, but this time it’s something that has presented itself to you The optimal time period to attempt a projection would be in the early morning hours — usually, from 5–7 am. Once you realise this is a state you don’t necessarily have to chase, but instead, only to have to recognise, you will understand why the authors I have quoted recommend it.
It is often advised to develop awareness when entering sleep, or while dreaming, but it is not as often suggested to develop awareness upon awakening. We aren’t taught to cultivate this skill, but I would like to recommend it for anyone who hasn’t experienced a projection because it is perfectly achievable to train yourself to make your projection attempt during the first 10–45 seconds after waking up from a sleep cycle. The window to another dimension is wide open at this time.
Once you are able to wake up with a calm, focused mind, you have a number of techniques ready at your disposal:
TECHNIQUES:
— — Spinning: Instantly after awakening, picture yourself standing upright in any environment of your choice, and imagine you are spinning in a circle at a rapid speed. Feel your arms, shoulders and legs spin to the point where you feel wind or air on your arms, but remember to imagine standing in the same spot.
— — Skiing: Using skiing as an exit method can not only be effective but also enjoyable. When you have woken up from a sleep cycle, imagine you are on a white cliff and feel your self start to glide downwards into the snow. Amplify the speed considerably and begin to move at a breathtaking pace.
It necessary to imagine this to the point where you feel a rush or surge of pressure in your chest.
Feel the ski ropes in your hands. If you are doing this correctly, you will start to feel a folding feeling in your navel, which indicates stress is being applied on the finer body and that the pretense of a downward motion is being taken seriously as quite real. Add bumpy movements which include you going over a small lump of snow which takes you up into the air for a second, and then crashing back down again onto the snow.
— — If you choose to use Robert Bruce’s famous ROPE METHOD, ensure that you do not neglect to involve your other senses, such as smell. For example, give the rope a smell of rubber. If you need some assistance, look for something in the house which smells like rubber, such as a new plastic dumbbell weight tightener. Smell this, pause, and remember the smell. You will need to recreate it for later. Including this smell of rubber can be extremely helpful in your projection attempt.
Do not only feel the rough material of the rope in your hand, but also vividly feel the twisting, circular pattern of the rope. Feel its braided, wave-like strands dig into your skin. To intensify this, imagine the rope leaves splinters on the upper palms of your hands as you’re climbing it. When one hand grabs the rope, pull it down and actually feel your elbow bend. Then feel your elbow bend on the other arm when you reach out for the rope to take you higher. Climb the rope at a brisk pace. Pretend you are in a race with someone else, and if you find yourself losing concentration at any point, you can add counting along with your action to stop any nonsensical words entering your mind. Count 1 when you reach the left arm, then count 2 when the reach with the right arm, then count 3 when you reach with the left arm again, and then count 4 when you grab the rope with the right arm again. This counting keeps your mind focused on the task.
The point of including smell, touch and sight is to completely immerse yourself into this rope. Although the rope is imaginary, the effect it is having on your astral body is absolutely real. As you are concentrating, a sign that you applying stress on the finer body is a brief moment of feeling less solid. This might occur for only a second or two, but the sensation is similar to moving at a speed so fast your body feels as if it has become wind. Once this is felt, definitely continue with your rope-climing action. Soon, if you’ve maintained the action, a moment will come when the body muscles will suddenly tense up, as if they are all being clenched at the exact same time. The bed will now start to feel like it is rumbling, as if there is a small engine underneath the mattress. Do not pay any attention to these sensations
If a sensation of this kind is felt, instantly amplify the rope or (whatever motion technique) you are using. If you enjoy imagining you are bouncing, then feel the hard surface of your ceiling hit your scalp with every bounce. If you prefer to imagine yourself spinning while standing in one spot, feel the rush of air on your forearms and shoulders. Keep spinning and include rapid movement of the waist, which should cause it to tense up These motion techniques can also be performed in cycles, alternating between them every 3–5 seconds as Michael Raduga has suggested, or every 30–60 seconds as Robert Bruce recommends in his recent interview with LifeLessons.com, Part 3. There is also the option of not alternating at all. A projection is perfectly possible if you choose to use only one technique, such as climbing a rope, continuously for 90 seconds until the vibration state is reached. You can always choose one technique to focus on, or select a new one each day.
These motion techniques might cause a feeling of sudden vertigo and the sense of your body rising up from the bed, sometimes as little as 6 inches. It may be accompanied by brief dizziness after the vibrations subside, but this will not persist. It is likely that motion techniques will result in a live projection, where you will be transported not to an unfamiliar destination, but your own bedroom or wherever you made the projection attempt. After all the sensations and sounds have disappeared, you will sense your room, see it emerge out of a kind of mist, and feel your bed again as if nothing happened.
Grogginess and heaviness will be felt, and the initial identical appearance of your bedroom can easily fool you into thinking you have failed, so the performance of a reality/state check at this point is critical. The environment will feel and look so solid you will scarcely believe that you have succeeded. In the beginning, it may be necessary to perform more than one state check. The grogginess/heaviness, dizziness, and apparent solidity of the surrounding environment are all hallmarks of a classic etheric projection. The vibrations associated with this type of projection are liable to be more crude, harsh and dramatic. Personally, I would ascribe this to the thick, solid denseness of the etheric body. I have found this vibration state similar to the rumbling felt on a train, and even the vibration that occurs when holding an active game console controller, except it would be felt throughout the entire body.
When you have managed to wake up from a dream and remember your intention to project, immediately recreate the image of the tarot card in your mind. Do this whether you have moved your physical body or not. Imagine the card in as much detail as possible and visualise as a large, three-dimensional doorway in front of you. Make it as real as you possibly can for only 10–40 seconds.
Immediately picture the red lion in the bottom right part of your vision. See its eyes looking at you. Notice its mane. Observe its lines and wrinkles. Involving this much detail will give the image life.
Then promptly imagine the bull in the bottom left of your vision screen. Gradually maintain these two images. One might disappear while another remains, and probably the image that remains will alternate between the two, but you must persist. It will help to trace an imaginary finger and draw the lion and then the bull. Take your imaginary finger and repeatedly use a circular motion to recreate the image. Use your finger over and over again to draw the heads of these two creatures. Repeat this until you can comfortably retain the images of just these two creates first.
Ensure to keep the images in place and not allow them to drift upwards or sideways. Every time the images morph, bring them back to their proper position.
With this method, you do not need extensive training in maintaining a single image in your mind without distraction for a prolonged period. As I have already emphasised, you do not need to perform a strenuous concentration/meditation session to enter an altered state deep enough where projection is possible. The state already exists as soon as you wake up. You might have been taught that before a person begins having projections they need to maintain an image, such as a candle, in their mind as a way of mastering the basics first, and then the projection can be attempted at a later stage after some experience. Once again, this is not true. You can have an astral projection very soon without extensive training in meditation. The post-sleep state is ripe with natural potentiality, and any imaginative exercise at that time can propel you so rapidly into that specific dimension as to be breathtaking. If you have done this with sincerity, the vibrations will hit you with a force, suddenness, and intensity. If you feel burning in your body, ignore this and direct all of your attention on to the image. Allow the vibrations to become as strong as they need to be without acknowledging them. The card will now rush towards you like a train and you will actually enter into its environment. Once you have succeeded, slowly look at your surroundings, remind yourself that you are now in your astral body on the astral plane, and affirm that you are and will remain completely emotionally calm.
The tarot seems to be especially effective in the post-sleep state because of its ethereal properties. Any otherworldly image you visualise contains a current of its own which acts like a magnet, pulling you into its realm. Combine this with the momentum of the dream world you have just exited, and the potential power of this method becomes clear.
If you remember to remain still and execute a technique, the entire projection process — waking up from the dream, inducing the vibrational state, and projecting to a non-physical environment — can happen very quickly, as quickly as 30 seconds in total. You will have bypassed the lengthy preparation period that involves deliberately relaxing the body, quiescing the mind, and trying to attain the delicate balance between alertness and drowsiness. In the beginning, it is ideal for a projection to occur as quickly as possible when the mind is as fresh as possible.
Do not feel discouraged if a technique is successful on one day but not the next. This is why it is beneficial to have a selection of techniques. For some unknown reason, a technique can work for three successive nights, but not be effective again until another month has passed. It does not mean your abilities have deteriorated or the success of the technique was due to luck. It just might be worth considering the subtle energies in the body do not remain in an identical state day after day. Learning to regularly use different techniques will also develop versatility.
If you find that when making your attempts to project you are lying there with nothing happening, despite using several exteriorisation techniques, this is an indication that you haven’t reached a state deep enough for a transition to occur. The very act of analysing or checking whether you have reached that state yet in the middle of an attempt is enough to completely halt any progress. Holding the mind completely clear of any distracting thoughts for a prolonged period is challenging. It requires considerable skill and experience in meditation. Inducing a projection when entering sleep is certainly achievable after practice, but a projection from the waking state can be induced far quicker when exiting sleep because the mind does not need to maintain absolute concentration for as long as it would be normally required with the traditional method of descending into sleep. Whereas a clear or blank mind would need to be sustained for anywhere between 3–10 minutes when entering sleep, this same state of mind would need to be sustained for less than 45 seconds if you chose to make an attempt immediately after a dream. The conditions that need to be met for a projection when entering sleep are possibly far too demanding for a beginner. The conditions necessary for a projection when coming out of sleep are not as exacting, and with experience, you will notice that you can project when you have moved an arm or had a distracting thought. You can quickly regain your focus and induce the vibrations. This doesn’t appear to be anywhere near as easy when using the opposite approach of entering sleep.
The other issue you might have already experienced is the fatigue associated with trying to induce a projection as you are entering sleep. The sheer amount of time spent quiescing the mind and relaxing the body can actually exhaust the trainee, and you may find that just at the precise moment your body was ready to project, your mind was too exhausted from all the minutes you spent descending into the state and fighting off sleep.
Projection comfort:
One issue that I and many other projectors have encountered when attempting to induce an exteriorisation on entrance into sleep is the considerable lack of body comfort that arises from lying in one position for an extended period. In my earlier years, on many occasions, I would experience a painful backache after lying prone for only 30 minutes.
This pain was not helpful and severely prevented me from entering a state of relaxation. It became a distraction and instead of being able to focus on an exteriorisation technique such as spinning, my mind kept returning to the back and neck pain I was experiencing, wishing it would disappear. I could not maintain my concentration because the only thing I could think of was whether the pain would subside. This can be a recurring problem for both young and older projectors alike.
If it isn’t a back or neck pain that causes you to abort or fail a projection attempt, it might be the persistent urge to swallow instead. Lying in a prone position for a lengthy period can cause the saliva to build up at the back of your throat and eventually become a continuous, non-stop irritation. To project, you need to direct your focus away from the physical body, and anything that draws your attention back to it is not conducive.
Therefore, it is advisable to find an approach that minimizes any temptation to direct a thought to the body as much as possible. Adapting your approach to projecting after exiting sleep can easily overcome both the pain and saliva obstacles. Immediately following a sleep cycle, your body has been in a stationary position due to natural causes (sleep) instead of a forced procedure — which is, maintaining a corpse-pose for 30–60 minutes and deliberately resisting the urge to move. This makes it far less likely to wake up to physical back and neck pain.
The other advantage is that immediately after waking up, you will find that the saliva build up is not a problem because your mind hasn’t been focusing on it. You have achieved a natural state of relaxation due to several hours of sleep, but also not been aware of a saliva build up due to the dream activity of your mind. You have woken up with a relaxed body and mind that has not been distracted by a period spent lying on your back resisting the urge to swallow.
Immediately after a dream, the less time spent awake reduces the opportunity for the thought of swallowing to occur. Fortunately, even if the projector decides to swallow after exiting a dream it still will not sabotage the success of a projection because of the considerably relaxed state of the physical body hat results after several sleep cycles. Just as gently moving the physical body in the moments after waking up from a dream does not sabotage the chances of success, neither does briefly succumbing to the urge to swallow.
What to do if you are stuck in the vibration state:
Should you find yourself stuck in the vibration state, the usual cause for this is a lack of sufficient intensity in the technique you are employing. You have stimulated the astral body enough to initiate a take-off, but more power needs to be gathered to complete the take-off. If this ever does occur and you feel the full, powerful vibration in your body but without actually transitioning, you only need to apply more force. A strong, forceful, explosive imagination technique will pull the finer body out of alignment.
For example, if you imagine you are travelling upwards in an elevator, then feel vibrations, but cannot complete the process… intensify this by imagining you are in a rocket shooting up into the sky. The motion of a rocket is obviously more extreme than simply climbing a rope. Do not be afraid to imagine something this extreme. If you are unable to move beyond the vibration state and feel that you spending long periods contained in that state, this extreme kind of movement would be required. You could also choose to imagine yourself on a ride at a theme park. Those rides are intense, swift, and involve extreme movement to the point of feeling considerable vertigo.
Your etheric/astral body will respond to this sudden and extreme increase in imagined intensity by immediately deepening the vibration state and then rapidly exteriorising out of its shell. You will actually feel an upwards movement at this point similar to the sensation when inside an elevator which travels to a higher floor.
Imagine that you are in this rocket which endlessly keeps travelling higher and higher into the atmosphere. When you believe this rocket has reached as high as it can go, you continue at travel even higher. Believe with all conviction that you are inside this rocket that will not stop going upwards. You will know you are doing this with enough intensity when you feel your teeth begin to clench and your torso is becoming tense, as if it is being stretched out.
As long as the technique is performed with urgency and imagined to feel as real as possible success is inevitable. When even the slightest tingling sensation is felt in your body that exact same technique must be sustained until the vibrational state is fully established. A technique that involves extreme, sudden and rapid movement will cause the separation. If you actually trick your mind and feel your body swaying side to side as if it was truly happening, and not imagine you are observing yourself swaying side to side like a mental guided imagery session, then the release of the finer body will occur.
If the use of motion doesn’t cause a projection, then immediately move on to using distance, such as imagining yourself in another room. If this does not produce a result, then experiment with a symbol such as a Tarot image, Tattwa card, or Hebrew letter. The finer body is released when stress is applied, and you apply this stress by involving motion, distance, or dimension.
Focus on the physical body during the vibration state will more often than not keep the finer bodies attached to it. Avoid directing any attention to the physical body. Direct attention on and stimulation of the finer body is what releases it.
ASTRAL PROJECTION… OR ETHERIC PROJECTION?
You might have already heard of “astral” and “etheric” projections. So how do you know which one of these you are experiencing when you have an out-of-body event? There are many signs which indicate the type of projection that is in progress, so let us look at this area in more detail.
A projection of the etheric body
The etheric body is simply the twin-body of the physical vehicle, except it is less dense. It looks, feels and moves the same as the physical body, The etheric body can be observed by sensitives or those with clairvoyant abilities.
The vibration phase of an etheric projection can feel wild, aggressive and dramatic. If the physical body falls asleep and consciousness is transferred to the etheric counterpart first, a feeling of electric current will a surge through the body and be accompanied by loud roaring sounds, a shaking bed mattress, and often, a racing heartbeat. The experience of an etheric projection would be almost identical to the feeling of sitting on a high-speed train. The rumbling and rocking are felt with unmistakeable palpability. At the very last moment of the vibration phase, your entire body will suddenly and briefly rise off the mattress, usually about 6 inches. This will remind you exactly of the initial sensation of being in an elevator which rises to the next floor.
Once the vibration state has ceased and the trainee has transferred to the etheric body, one of the classic signposts that an etheric projection has occurred is a feeling of grogginess, heaviness, and sluggishness. Standing up, observing your environment, and gathering a thought can feel like a momentous task. If you imagine attempting to get out of your bed at 1 am after only two hours of sleep, you will have an idea of how Once you begin to stand up from your bed, your body will feel incredibly fatigued and weak.
An etheric projection can appear and feel virtually indistinguishable from physical reality, and one can often believe the projection has failed once the vibration state ceases because everything feels extremely solid and looks exactly the same. The bed you lie in will feel no different to how it did before you made the projection attempt. Neither will your body. This is why reality checks are so strongly emphasised because it is easy to be deceived.
An etheric projection is a raw, live projection into an environment that is almost an exact duplicate of your physical reality. The only difference is that your body is less dense, so it can perform actions such as walking through walls or floating several inches off the ground.
Objects in the physical world that have been misplaced and left in an unfamiliar location nearby can be observed while in the etheric body.
The etheric realm is the “ transit area”, where the projector has entered a dimension that is in-between the physical plane and astral plane. The laws of matter and gravity do not apply here. Projectors can pass through walls, float several inches in the air, or walk around unobserved.
The etheric plane designates the first stop on a journey, but you can also progress into a finer body and continue the journey to the next stop, which would be the astral plane. On the etheric plane, it is possible to conduct legitimate experiments and observe actual live events that would be occurring in the physical world. However, the projector is not in his/her physical vehicle. This realm is a close duplicate of the physical,
A projection of the astral body
The astral body is finer and less dense than both the physical and etheric bodies. It can operate at a faster speed and travel further distances. A direct transition into the ASTRAL BODY is lighter, quieter, and usually transports the subject into a distant location, unfamiliar environment or fanciful, myth-like reality. You can find yourself transitioning from your physical bed to an unknown town, island or university on the astral plane in less than 30 seconds after the vibration stage is initiated. It’s not uncommon to find yourself in an astral lecture during your first few astral experiences. You can be given lessons by other projectors without ever setting an intention to have that encounter.
From my own experience, when consciousness transfers directly to the astral counterpart the physical body produces an unmistakable tingling sensation. If you recall the last time you watched a frightening film, you will have most likely experienced that cold, tingling sensation sweep through your body during scenes that suddenly involved dread, terror and adrenaline.
This tingling sensation is identical to the sensation that is felt when the astral body becomes conscious and active. If you include the added sensation of pins and needles throughout the body you will have an accurate idea of what the vibration state feels like. At the very end of the vibration state, just as the projection completes, I’ve always detected a melting sensation. It feels as if your physical body suddenly melts and turns to water, or disintegrates with no matter left behind. The bed is no longer felt, and you then find yourself in another environment.
If you transition from the physical body to the astral body in a very rapid fashion, you will bypass the etheric transit area completely and transport directly into the astral plane. The astral body feels more flexible and less torpid. The vibrations that precede a projection into the astral body feels more smooth, and often a gentle tingling that feels like pins-and-needles throughout the body and a soft sensation of the physical body gradually dissolving into sand is all that is felt when the projection is in progress.
However, another type of projection can occur where no sensations are felt at all. This might often be described as a third-eye or mental projection, a kind of finer projection. A typical characteristic can include a white glow which develops into a tunnel, or a vision screen which looks akin to a television set. There does seem to be some kind of forward movement involved, where if the projector maintains equanimity he/she can see the white glow or vision screen rush towards them, exteriorising their consciousness from the physical body.
There will likely be many disagreements about the terms, definitions, and signposts I have just used, but it’s only my interpretation. It is also interesting to note that projections in your first year of experience won’t necessarily feel the same in the future. At the moment, I suspect the energy body undergoes some kind of fine-tuning after a high number of projections, making the transition smoother as the years go by.
Sometimes when a projection occurs, you can project your consciousness to the etheric body and then in a matter of seconds involuntarily experience a further projection into the astral body in one smooth, seamless propulsion. I call it the “ gear shift” event, where not just one transition takes place, but two in quick succession. It can occur in the following stages:
This can take place within 20–25 seconds. It is not unlike a kind of reflex.
Etheric Substance:
There is another area I would like to touch on. From my perspective, it appears an additional reason a conscious, wake-induced projection can seem very challenging is due to an etheric substance attached to our energy bodies. I have detected it during an etheric projection and I believe it is responsible not only for the extreme grogginess that is felt during that type of experience, but also for the relatively short distance that can be travelled during an etheric projection. I’ve noticed that can be sensed as a heavy tingling and ticklish sensation all over the arms, legs and back while out of body. It can also be detected when passing through walls because of the gel-like sensation that is experienced. This substance seems to act as a kind of glue, keeping the energetic bodies closely attached the physical and making the projection process more wearisome than we would like it to be.
This etheric substance can be loosened, however, with a daily practice routine. A consistent, daily rehearsal of the exteriorisation methods I mentioned earlier could pay dividends. If possible, take 20–30 minutes of your day and rehearse several motion techniques, in bed with your eyes closed. Imagine you are climbing a rope, then 30 seconds later, imagine you are swimming, then 30 seconds later, imagine you are on a ride at a theme park. The alternating of motion techniques will not only help to maintain concentration and relieve boredom, but it is actually stimulating and developing the astral body to a degree. Additionally, it loosens the etheric matter which is firmly attached to the energy and physical bodies. You will likely feel intermittent tingling in your body during your daytime practice. This is a positive sign and indicates that the energetic bodies are being loosened In your daytime attempts, you are not trying to induce a projection. It is a rehearsal. This preparation vastly increases the likelihood of success when you make your attempts at night because you are stimulating and developing aspects of the energy body, while and at the same refining your the ability to execute a technique in trance.
Insomnia
This post-sleep projection method also avoids the problem of insomnia, which some aspirants can frequently experience. As I mentioned earlier, you might have discovered when attempting a projection during the descent into sleep that the vibrations will be generated once you’ve accessed deep hypnagogic state, only for them to immediately disappear due to over-excitement.
It can then require an entire hour of both physical and mental relaxation to reach this elusive state once again. A lack of sleep can quickly result, and if the habit of not allowing the mind to fall asleep has firmly established, it can be very difficult to retrain the mind to relax again for some much-need rest. It is not entirely easy to adapt from a period of forced alertness to a period of mental quiescence. If you have spent an hour instructing the mind to stay alert and not succumb to sleep, it will not necessarily switch to embracing sleep as soon as you desire it to do so.
It is needless to say that difficulty falling asleep is undesirable and unhealthy. Fortunately, when attempting to project following an ascent from sleep, the trainee need not spend longer than five minutes on a technique. If within those five minutes a projection has not been induced, it is advisable to simply return back to sleep again and make another attempt on either the next awakening or the next night. A brief 1–5 minute period of creating awareness and executing an intention will not result in insomnia, but it is possible a 45–90 minute period will. Insomnia only makes a projection more difficult. Healthy, quality sleep is more important than anything in this field. A lack of sleep will negatively impact the student, and positive results will be rarely attained. The trainee is bound to experience considerable difficulty with inducing, sustaining and remembering a projection because of an exhausted mind.
This method works when the mind is in a refreshed, healthy state. If you are currently experiencing bouts of insomnia, it is recommended to remedy this problem before attempting to experience regular projection of the non-physical bodies.
Steps to take if you begin to struggle with this method
If you have found that after several weeks you aren’t succeeding in waking up and promptly executing an exit technique, begin by first improving your dream recall. Every time you wake up, just lie in your bed and recall the last scene you were involved in. Learn to do this comfortably and consistently. Write down all the dreams you have, if you don’t do this already. Once you have accomplished this, then progress to waking up and just simply observing the hypnopompic images that play out. Do this for several days. This is an invaluable practice because you are training the brain to wake up with intent and perform a deliberate action, instead of waking up idly with an absent mind. This only needs to be performed for a few minutes.
When you observe the images, take it a step further and then just manipulate the images for a few seconds. This will become easier the more often you practice. Observing images in the moments after waking is far, far easier than observing them when you are ready to fall asleep. You are not attempting to project into the images. The purpose is to become familiar with the altered state that exists after sleeping. Once you can do this comfortably for a few minutes, you can then progress to making an actual projection attempt on your next awakening.
In summary, if results haven’t been forthcoming, return to the basics:
If you haven’t succeeded after consistent, daily practice, there is always the option of using an alarm or android app that can activate for 3–5 seconds and then switch off by itself. Every time you hear or feel this alarm waking you up, practice lying still, even if you moved. Soon, after using this item, you won’t need it. You are just using it to develop an automatic reaction.

When attempting to initiate a projection from the awake state, usually it will be the same two obstacles which prevent it from occurring:
An insufficiently relaxed physical body will delay the etheric/astral body from separating. In most cases, to succeed with a projection, the physical body has to be in a state as close to possible to sleep. It has to be more than just relaxed. It has to resemble an inactive, immobilised corpse that has not moved for hours. This is the level of relaxation that can be necessary. If you have attempted a projection and only felt mild, intermittent tingling in parts of the body, this is a clear indication that the physical body is not in a state relaxed enough to allow a separation. Often, not even a thorough, progressive muscle relaxation routine has been enough to facilitate a projection. But an inoperative physical body that has passed through several sleep cycles is certainly sufficient, and ideal.
Even If the trainee attempts a projection on entering sleep and manages to induce a sufficient state of relaxation — which will almost certainly require a lengthy period of time in the beginning, as long as 45–70 minutes — the other obstacle that may present itself at this point is the wandering mind. A mind that has been awake for an hour attempting to hold an altered state is not as refreshed as it is in the seconds following an awakening from a sleep cycle in the early morning and naturally wants to fall asleep instead of maintaining alertness. A mind that naturally awakens after a sleep cycle is rested enough to perform an exteriorisation method, but also, it is equipped with a physical body relaxed enough to generate the vibration state. The combination and timing at this stage are highly favourable for a beginner.
There is a reason why the most respected astral projection teachers have all stressed thorough physical relaxation is the true route to leaving the body. And an opportune time to experience this relaxed state is instantly after awakening from a dream.

Now, back to astral projecting tonight…
We’re going to explain exactly how to astral project tonight, and move around the astral plane in your new astral body. This is the easiest method we know of and it’s effective. It’s going to be a rollercoaster, so get comfortable.
But, here’s the deal:
There are a few warnings we need to give you before you start, and a few tips for getting results faster! Make sure to stick around to the end of the post, as there are important tips at the end.

BEFORE you astral project
Make sure you understand the risks and the experiences you’ll actually have with astral projection.
You can astral project at any time of the day or night but there are certain times when it’s a lot easier. These are times when your body is just ready for an OBE and more likely to have one.
The best time to astral project is about 4AM in the morning.
Not the easiest time to be awake, but if you can wake up at this time and try then, you’ll have much more luck in the beginning stages, specially if you’re new to this and you’re learning.
Is astral projection safe?
It’s perfectly safe to attempt to try and Astral Project. As long as you keep a positive mindset, and you’re trying to astral project to good and positive reasons, there are no dangers to astral projecting at all. In fact, it’s beneficial to your health and can help you sleep better.
For the most part, just don’t worry about it.
There’s nothing that can harm you in the astral plane as long as you maintain a positive energy, and a good intention. It’s just a place you can pass through and experience.
There are going to be posts that tell you it can be dangerous, and to be honest there CAN be some dangers, but for the most part you’ll be fine. I’d suggest reading the above post about astral projection dangers if you’re worried.
How to astral project tonight (8 Steps for beginners)
To astral project tonight, set your alarm to go off after about 6 hours of sleep. Then wake up and lay on your back. Close your eyes, and you’ll need to relax all of your muscles, and try not to think about anything. As you lay there, after about ten minutes you’ll feel like your body is vibrating. This soon leads to an OBE.
There are 8 steps to this astral projection technique, which should let you astral travel very easily, and very quickly. Don’t skip any of these steps!
Don’t rush these, and if you don’t understand something, come back and read it again. These are fairly easy to do but you should still have a basic understanding of how astral projection works.
Here are 8 steps to being able to astral project in about 5 minutes (once you’ve learned the techniques):

1: Prepare yourself to astral project
Before you try astral projection, just make sure your room or the area you’re doing it in is a nice quiet and comfortable space.
This is the time to make sure you’ve not got alarms that are going to disturb you, or TV that’s going to make noise when you’re trying to have an OBE. The space around you should be quiet, peaceful and ideally have the following things in –
These things aren’t essential, but they’ll certainly help get you in the right frame of mind. Also, slightly dimming the lights helps too. It makes it easier to close your eyes if you’re not tired.
Disturbing things – Try and make sure as much as you can that no-one is going to come in and disturb you. It can be very annoying to be interrupted by someone when you’re trying to have an OBE.
2: Relax and get into a comfortable position
Make sure that you relax every single part of your body.
Get into a place where you’re comfortable, just like the picture below, but hopefully not as twisted up and curled into a ball!
This can be either laying down on your back or sitting up in a chair. Whatever position you’re going to astral travel from, make sure you’re not having to support your body to stay in that position.
Basically when you relax ALL of your muscles, you should still remain in the position safely. You don’t want to be falling out of your chair, for example. Sit back and let the chair fully support you and hold you in place.
Armchairs or sofas are better for this, as you can relax back into them fully and get supported. When you’ve got yourself into a comfortable position, you’re ready to move to the next stages.
A note about meditation and breathing
Just before we go onto the next stages, it’s important to mention breathing and meditation for astral travel. If you don’t know what meditation is, it’s basically being aware of yourself and letting go of stresses and thoughts.
You can learn more about meditation in your own time, but it’s better to be someone who regularly meditates, for example every day for at least 10 minutes. This will increase your chances of having an OBE.
Meditation can be very simple, so here’s a quick method you can use every single day:
3: Focus on relaxing all of your body parts and muscles
Focus on your body now.
Start by focusing on a particular body part, for example, your hand. Don’t move ANY muscles, and don’t even think about moving them at this stage. Just be aware of the hand, and focus on it until you can almost see every part of it in your mind.
Really pay attention to the details, like for example:
Once you’ve done this for a while, (About 2-3 minutes) you can progress..
Moving your focus
Now you’re going to start shifting focus from body part to body part.
Start either at your head or at your toes and work your way up/down the body. focus on each body part separately, and make sure you really get a feel of the body part and where it is. Visualise exactly what it looks like, where it is and how it feels. Again, don’t try to move anything.
Imagine moving the body parts
Now that you’ve done that, start again, but imagine what it would feel like to MOVE each body part.
If you start by focusing on your foot, for example, IMAGINE (without physically moving) what it would feel like and look like to move your foot up and down.
Visualise it so strongly that it almost feels like you’re actually doing it. When you’ve done this for each body part, (This can’t be rushed, and it may take up to 20-30 minutes) you’re ready to enter the vibrational stage!
4: Enter the vibrational stage (You’ll experience vibrations or tingling)
At this point you’ve almost had an out of body experience! You ALMOST know how to astral project, you’ve just got a little bit more to do..
This is where things get fun, but also where things get difficult. You’re now entering the ‘vibrational stage’ of astral travel. This is where you’ll start to really feel something. In fact, I made a short video explaining what the vibrational stage is like:
You’ll feel your whole body start to vibrate gently, as if a soft current of electricity is going through your body. It might also feel like a heavy blanket is covering your whole body.
It’s at this point that you’ll either have an OBE, or you’ll get scared and give up, or lose focus. It’s exactly now that you’ll want to exercise STRONG willpower and just keep going for it.
Don’t be scared:
It’s really important that at this stage in particular, you stay as relaxed as possible. Don’t think about anything other than what you’re trying to do. Don’t focus on anything other than your body.
The next stage is probably the hardest part of learning how to do astral projection so make sure you stay focused! Also, don’t give up. It might not happen to you for the first few tries, but keep trying!
5: Move out of your physical body and into the astral realm
You’re now going to move your psychosoma (or ‘astral body’) OUTSIDE of your physical body. This takes a lot of practice, and there are several techniques once you get to this point. They all revolve around visualising and being relaxed.
This is why we suggested that you practice meditation as a KEY part of your astral travel efforts.
So, now we’re going to briefly explain several techniques you can use to move your astral body outside of your physical one. Feel free to try each technique, and find which ones works best for you.
Here are some astral projection TECHNIQUES for leaving your physical body:
A) The swing technique
Imagine you’re on a swing.
As you lay there in your bed, (or sit in your chair) imagine your body gently swinging back and forward. Start off with REALLY small movements.
Now, DON’T actually move, but imagine your body is moving. Just like before when you imaged your separate body acts moving. This time, imagine your WHOLE body moving, in VERY SMALL movements as if you’re on a swing.
Make the movements get bigger and bigger until you eventually swing your entire astral body out, and find yourself floating a little way above your physical body. I made a video explaining the swing technique in more simple terms, and walking you through how it feels:
B) The rope technique
The rope technique involves focusing on your hands. Just like before, imagine your hands moving. When you can strongly visualise your hands moving separately to your physical body, imagine a rope is in front of you.
Reach out to the rope (Again, all with your astral bodies hands, not your physical hands) and grab it. Gently use it to pull yourself up and out of your body. Yo can also use a bar instead of rope and follow the same steps.
These techniques are not by any means ALL of the techniques out there, but they’re the most common and will get you started the right way! Now that we’ve got there, we need to STAY in the astral realm:
6: Stay lucid/aware by focusing
The important thing to remember when you’re doing astral travel is that you need to stay focused.
It’s easy to become hazy or confused when you’re trying this. Practice meditating every day so that you’re good at staying focused for long periods of time. This is called being ‘lucid’. It simply means being aware of ‘clear’. It’s an important part of astral projection.
It’s really important to meditate if you want to have OBES because meditation can help you maintain a high level of focus. Focus and awareness are VERY important for this sort of thing.
How to remember your astral projection experience
When you astral travel, your astral body or ‘psychosoma’ is separate from your physical body and brain. The experiences you have in the astral realm are recorded in your astral brain or ‘parabrain’.
This means that unless you really try and set yourself up for it, you’ll forget everything as soon as you return to your physical body and brain!
Don’t worry though, there are some great ways to ‘transfer’ the memories from brain to brain. The main one is by repeating a ‘mantra’ to yourself the whole day before you try this.
Some mantras you could use are –
Repeat these things to yourself once every hour for the whole day. Do this every day to make sure your brain knows what to do!
But how do we get back to our physical bodies?
7: Return to your physical body by pulling on your silver cord
The next stage is returning to your physical body.
It’s no good learning how to astral project if you don’t also learn how to get back to reality! To return to your physical body, you don’t actually need to do much!
Your astral body is connected to your physical body via a ‘silver cord’ or rope. This ensures you never lose contact with your physical body and can always return.
You may sense or even see this cord as you’re traveling. It appears as a white or energetic beam of energy which goes through walls and can stretch to an infinite length.
You simply have to either follow the cord back to your body if you’re ‘deeply’ focused in the astral realm. If you’re not so ‘grounded’ you can simply think about opening your physical eyes, and this will ‘snap you back’ to physical reality.
8: Enter the advanced world of astral travel
Soon, you’ll want to dive deeper:

Finding objects or information quickly
Next time you’re astral traveling, try and find an object in your room.
But here’s the thing:
Pick an easy object to describe and remember. Look at where it is, and when you get back to your physical reality find the object again and see if you were right.
It works best if you pick objects that you wouldn’t have known were there, for example objects in another room that someone else has placed there for you to find.
You can also get someone to write down some information for you on a bit of paper in another room. Astral project into that room and read it, then come back and test yourself! Keep doing it until you’re good at it!
The one thing you should never do

The most common mistake is:
Trying to have an OBE during the night.
Lots of people try and have an OBE at 7PM sometimes, which is totally wrong. You MIGHT be able to, but the chances of you successfully having an OBE are very slim.
Because your REM sleep is at it’s peak during the early hours of the morning. If you avoid that period, it’s next to impossible to have an OBE because your brain chemistry is all wrong at that time.
So when should you try it?
Well, during the early hours of the morning. This is so very important, that we will keep reminding you of it throughout this website and our posts. Set your alarm to go off at about 4AM, and THEN attempt an OBE.
Your brain will be at the optimum condition then, because you’ll be full of ‘wake up hormones’ in preparation for the waking day, BUT you’ll be deeply relaxed and tired, so you could easily slip into an OBE/sleep!

What’s the best time to astral project?
The best time to astral project is in the early hours of the morning. Any time between 4-8AM will work well, as your hormones are balanced properly for astral projection during that time. Your serotonin is starting to rise and your melatonin is still high enough to keep you relaxed and make it easier to fall back asleep.
What can you do while astral projecting?
There are many things you can do while astral projecting, such as exploring alien worlds and flying around other dimensions. It feels very real and vivid, but at the same time different to a normal dream or waking life. Many people choose to use astral projection to visit lost loved ones, spirit guides, or their higher self.
How can I astral project faster?
To astral project faster, you should meditate for about ten minutes before going to sleep every night. Practice the WBTB technique explained earlier in this blog post, and keep a very strong intention in your mind every night before you go to sleep.
Can you spy on someone while astral projecting?
You can spy on people using astral projection, but it’s not recommended or easy. Through setting an intention and stabilizing your OBE, you are able to spy on people and get some idea of what they’re doing or how they’re feeling at any point in time.
Can you die in astral projection?
Is is not possible to be killed while astral projecting or to be stuck in the OBE. This is a common myth, but has never been proven. There is no real danger to be aware of when astral projecting, however the experience can feel intense for beginners.
Can others see you while you astral project?
Other people or entities can see you while you’re astral projecting, but they don’t really see YOU. They see your intention or the energy your’e projecting, because the astral realm is less about the physical senses, and more about feeling, intuition and energy exchange.
How long does it take to learn to astral project?
It takes about 4-6 months to learn how to astral project, but it can take various lengths of time depending on how experienced you are. It’s important to not set your expectations too high, because it’s a difficult skill to learn if you’ve never done it before.
How long can you astral project for?
You can astral project for up to an hour or so, but most people are not able to project for anywhere near that long. Most beginners and intermediate astral travellers are able to project for about 5 minutes or less before being drawn back to their physical body.
How to get started
There are many ways you could learn to astral project, but here’s the thing:

You need to learn the right things, from someone who’s actually done it. Astral projection is all about ‘hacking’ your body and getting inside some natural processes. There are techniques you can use to make it happen.
