Please add choice in option menu to select between new and old versions of scroll speed selection in osu!mania game mode. I and most of the players in our community cat`t normally play without old scroll speed system.

Discussion in #6263 is potentially related?
TheEZIC commented Mar 14, 2020 •
I don`t think so. Because we want to change scroll speed not in milliseconds, but in string number like in osu! stable.
peppy commented Mar 14, 2020
it’s the same thing?
TheEZIC commented Mar 14, 2020
In osu!lazer we chose scroll time in milliseconds, and we can t find same property like in osu!stable number system. It s very important, because it is very difficult to get used to the new system.
peppy commented Mar 14, 2020
so you just want to know the number to ms mapping?
TheEZIC commented Mar 14, 2020
Yes. Common user doesn t know how to convert number to ms. And I think this option should be in the game. It s the main reason why I created this issue.
V3rald commented Mar 31, 2020
Or just a way to decrease and increase the ms value by 1/10/50 maybe via arrows, shift+arrows and ctrl+arrows
50 is just too big of a number and i found the need of 25 or some other number smaller than 50 for a comfortable scrollspeed. With this system, anyone could set their original scrollspeed with some trial and error

[resolved] Reset scroll speed of an osu!mania beatmap
Problem Details: I changed the scroll speed of some maps of osu!mania with f3 and f4 just to test this function. But now I can’t remember the default scroll speed of a map. I went in options, but I don’t like the default speed for all the maps. There is a way to reset the scroll speed of a beatmap or how can I see the default scroll speed of a map?
Video or screenshot showing the problem:
osu! version: 20161101.2 (latest)

Hopefully this answered your question!

Maps that have osu!mania as their default mode will have a custom BPM as set by the beatmap creator.
Only maps that are originally osu! Then converted to mania are in 12BPM by default.

This is my probem. In the screen I posted a song that its default mode is osu!mania, and I changed the BPM. The question is: can I set a only-mania map to its default scroll speed?

Scale osu!mania scroll speed setting by primary BPM of songs
Currently there’s two ways to get your scroll speed (the thing you change with F3/F4) for a song right. One is to look at the BPM of the song before starting it, and adjust according to that. This takes a relatively high level of familiarity with the game, though, and isn’t really practical for new or casual players. The other option is to restart the song, adjusting your scroll speed until it feels about right. But this quickly gets frustrating after having to do it for every song, not to mention it isn’t even possible when playing multiplayer.
So what we need is some sort of consistency with the setting, so that we won’t have to change it as often. Most songs have a primary BPM that they stay at for a majority of the time, and for some smaller time they go faster or slower, with BPM or SV changes. It would be perfect if the same setting made all songs scroll at the same speed during the time the songs are going at their primary BPM.
So the scroll speed setting should be scaled according to the primary BPM of each song. This will preserve everything that SV changes add to the game while giving the setting a good level of consistency between songs.
Implementing this should be fairly simple, and mostly builds upon the system currently in place. There are two main parts to it. The first part is calculating the primary BPM of each song. Include all SV changes in this calculation as changing the effective BPM of the song. Then find the effective BPM the song is at for the longest. This is a good starting point and can harmlessly be swapped out for more clever heuristics later on.
Once you’ve scaled the scroll setting by primary BPM, the other part is then figuring out what settings make sense with the new system. You should stick with having settings from 1 to 30 (although you may find that even 20 settings are enough now), and then it’s just a matter of figuring out how slow you want setting 1 to be and how fast you want setting 30 to be.

You can play SV maps to improve timing coordination, although sight reading is debatable depending on methods used. Hand-eye coordination improves with time. Just use the scroll speed you are most comfortable with.

And last question, how does PP work in mania?

No, but 8k autoconverts used to give more pp. Don’t know if that changed or not
xnix wrote:

Your top pp is 100% weighted
xnix wrote:

850k score gets you majority of pp. Usually there is a point to go higher if you can boost it up to be one of your top 7 pp. Otherwise, just acc practice
Yeah, increase scroll speed gradually as you improve. As you start playing harder and harder maps, the density of notes will increase. Increasing scroll speed helps spread the notes out and make patterns easier to read, but it takes time to get used to reading faster speeds too, so when you start out it makes sense to keep the speeds a bit lower to give yourself more time to read the patterns.
Everyone is going to be different, especially since it seems that everyone has a different «maximum speed». By «maximum speed» I mean the speed that they end up stopping increasing the scroll speed. When I started out I already had experience with other rhythm games, and there was no such thing as fixed speeds, but IIRC I started using scroll speed 10 at 150 bpm (would have been 15 fixed). Over time, I moved up to 18 at 150 bpm (would have been 28 fixed).

Honestly worry about getting a good skin that suits you before speed. Then after you have your skin you can adjust your speed. I say this because some skins might have different scroll speed.

I started playing Osu!mania (4K only) 10 days ago and I’ve improved quite a lot, however I have no idea how should i continue on improving and with which scroll speed. I started off with scroll speed 10, a day later transferred to 14, then change it to 18 scroll speed cause 14 didn’t feel comfortable and was too slow. So now I am playing 2* beatmaps with 18 scroll speed.
I’ve seen some videos how people improve and most of them seem to be playing on a very low scroll speed (like 14) all the way to 4* beatmaps and only then they start raising their scroll speed like a mad man.
I really have no idea which way is more efficient to improve.
Should i play on a low scroll speed in order to improve my sight reading and hand-eye coordination?
Or should I hit up the fast scroll speed first and just let me hand-eye coordination and sight reading sink in over time? (this one feels like i will hit a wall quite hard but it will be also a good way of improving)
And last question, how does PP work in mania?
Does scroll speed affect how much pp is gained? do 5k and 7k beatmaps give more pp? how do i gain 100% weighted pp? by asking that. do i need to FC + hit 100% accuracy in order to gain the most pp out of a beatmap?
well I change it using +/- keys on my keyboard

osu!mania scroll speeds can now be fixed
The latest update to osu made it a lot bouncier, among many other fancy things, but there was also an exciting change to osu!mania scroll speeds. It’s a simple change to allow you to use the same scroll speed for more songs. And before you start worrying, no, it doesn’t kill SV or BPM changes. Here’s a quick overview of the change, why it was necessary, and how you can make best use of it.
You can enable a new behaviour from options:
Mania scroll speed (the thing you change with F3/F4) has always had some major flaws. Without going into too much detail, the fact that this new change alone addresses about 10 feature requests is enough to show that this change was warranted. The full list:
Here’s how it works: scroll speeds can now be set to no longer scale to the primary BPM of the song you’re playing. This will allow you to use the same scroll speed for a 100BPM song and a 200BPM song, and have the notes travel at the same speed. Because we’re only basing the scroll speed around one primary BPM, SV changes and BPM still work the same.
By default, osu now uses a single, global scroll speed for every song. There is an option (under the gameplay section of Options) to get back the old behaviour of saving your scroll speed for each individual beatmap.
That’s about it! Enjoy the new system, and feel free to leave any feedback on it in this thread.

Press F3 to increase the speed.
Hello, I have a problem.
How do I fix this?
Edit: I fixed it. Idk how, but it works now!

You need to add a setting to play the old way, the speed changing is pissing me off, i have to change it for every song
This speed changing is getting on my nerves! It would be better if we had an option to play the same way it was before this update. I don’t want to change the speed for every song I play :/
I got used to a fast song these days and I can’t play it as it is now. Even if I change the speed manually, I still can’t find the correct speed that i’m used to :C
Please please, fix this
Peppy, I actually want to question your decision here. This scroll system is far better than the old one. I would like to understand your reason for this decision.
I believe the new system is much more convenient since you don’t need to adjust your speed setting for each song or any time you use DT/NC.
I also believe that it’s actually far easier to understand since the speed is absolute regardless of the BPM of the selected song. The term BPM-relative is a misnomer in this case.
I can understand that making a change like this may upset some players used to the old system, but the new system is far better overall.
For example, new players seem to have difficulty even realizing it’s possible to change your speed. With this system, that would mean that every song automatically is adjusted to scroll at the same rate from the beginning, making BPM less of an issue for new players. On top of that, it’s easier to explain the concept of absolute scroll speeds to a player than explaining how to do the math to try to recreate this system manually, which is what many players are forced to do with the old system.
In my opinion, it would have made far more sense to use this system from the very beginning, and makes literally no sense to even keep the old system, except maybe to appease some stubborn player who refuses to think long enough to recognize the benefit of the new system.
