You will be redirected to a section for specifying your name and age category. Write your company name in the first field. Bear in mind that this name should be recognizable and no different than any other social channels or your website.

Your Facebook cover photo is a large splash image that fills up a quarter of the screen. As you can guess, you should also take it seriously. Even if users don’t instantly notice your profile photo, they won’t be able to miss the cover. Here are a few suggestions of what it can contain:

The dimensions for the Facebook banner are 851 x 315 pixels. Keep in mind that the desktop and mobile versions display it differently – on mobile, the sides of the cover photo are cut off. Even though the majority of users will browse your page on mobile devices, it’s not an excuse to dismiss other audiences.

4. Add a Call-to-Action Button

Some time ago, Facebook introduced personalized CTA buttons, and you can change where you want the users to be directed after clicking it. It can be your home page, a landing page, a contact form, or anything else. Take some inspiration from these commonly used CTA buttons on Facebook:

The choice between different CTAs is your decision. Align it with your most important business goal at the time and change it up whenever needed. For example, if you’re focusing on growing your blog or newsletter subscribers, you can add “Sign Up”. If you have a promotional video you would like to draw more attention to, add “Watch Video”.

A little-known fact is that Facebook shows you how many people clicked on the button for a certain period of time. The number of clicks is displayed in the CTA button’s copy. You will also see small graphs showing you the dynamics of CTA clicks. It’s especially useful if you recently changed the button and want to see how effective it is.

5. Write and Add a Description

Now is the part to convey your company message through words. It bears no less significance than your visuals since it involves the information that people will see in search results. You don’t have a lot of characters to work with, but it’s for the better – shorter texts do extremely well on the Internet these days.

We’ll give you some ideas of what you can include in your description. You don’t have to choose one particular category – try mixing a couple of them and come up with a unique description. You can share:

6. Create a Custom Username

When you first create a Facebook account, you are given a unique URL identifier, which is something like facebook.com/YourCompany-987654321. While there is no harm in leaving it as-is for some time, a better move would be a customized URL.

It can be the same as your page name or something very similar to it. Once again, you want to create consistency whenever possible. If the username is taken, you can either contact this account or turn to creativity. It’s important to mention that using abbreviations or acronyms that aren’t directly in your company name is not a good idea.

Look for the “Templates and Tabs” section in your settings and play around with different features. For example, you can arrange tabs in whatever order makes sense.

In terms of what tabs you can add and arrange, there is a lot to choose from as well. You can set up tabs for current offers, service and product descriptions, photos, videos, live videos, posts, reviews, events, groups, and many more.

8. Adjust Important Privacy and Security Settings

There is a lot of flexibility in the options within Facebook settings. For example, you can set who is allowed to tag your page and share it with others. Our recommendation is to give permission to everyone. If another account posts about you on their timeline and tags you, it’s essentially a free promo for you.

You get to decide whether you want your page shown as a suggestion when people look for certain topics. You can set profanity filters in the page moderation section. If you want users to see when you’ve changed page information or photo, you can also make these tweaks in the settings.

There are many other aspects that you can adjust: messaging, editing, notifications, messenger, page roles, preferred page audience, and other page settings.

In case your company is in the alcohol and tobacco industries or offers some kind of age-sensitive products, it makes sense to restrict certain ages from seeing your page. This will appeal to advertisers who don’t want to be associated with promoting offensive products to children.

9. Finalize Page Details

Lastly, you need to revise your page to make sure it contains everything you need. Take a look at your About section and complete all the details that you forgot to include. Facebook algorithms favor pages that give as much information as possible.

Plus, there are many direct perks of having all page details completed. For example, you can answer a specific inquiry that a potential customer can’t find anywhere else – from additional links to industry awards. You can also benefit from featuring team members and their profiles.

When you’re happy with the information you provided, it’s time to go live and start posting. Go to page visibility and click Page Published.

If you’re still not there, you’d better get a move on, because I am willing to bet your competition is there, since there are more than 60 million active business pages, many of which use Facebook ads to reach their audience. The platform adds half a million new users every day – that’s about six new profiles every second.

Even though the network is one of the most popular websites online today, there are some people out there who still don’t have a profile on the network. Statistics show half of people who don’t have a Facebook live with someone who does, and use their account to browse the site.

If you’re the person in your social circle that just refuses to use it, I’m not here to pass judgement, but if you’ve got a company that you want to build a Facebook Page for, you’re out of luck.

You Must Have a Personal Account to Create a Facebook Business Page

While you used to be able to create a Facebook Page without a personal account, as of 2018, the rules have changed. Before, all you had to do was sign up for a Facebook Business account and you could create a page with relative ease and speed. Unlike a personal account, you could not have friends and view personal profiles. Because of issues with advertising campaigns and bots, Facebook has had to make some changes to the way they operate, so the Business account option no longer exists.

In an effort to increase transparency in advertising, Facebook now requires a personal account be attached to all business pages. You cannot create a new Facebook business page unless there is a personal account attached to it. This is because Facebook requires all pages to have an administrator who can manage the profile and assign roles to other individuals in a company for other admins and contributors. This is only available by connecting the page to an admin’s personal account.

In the past, there was no way to show your personal profile was connected to your business page, as everything you post on your business page is posted with the name of the page, rather than the name of the person who is doing the posting. This, too, has changed.

On the right hand side of the page, there is now a Page Transparency Box that shows when the page was created, and who the Team Members are. Anyone who is a page admin is listed in this box. This is why it’s important to make sure you create an authentic profile, even if you don’t ever intend on posting personal status updates or adding your coworkers or personal friends.

When you click the profile name on the Team Members section, you’ll be taken to that person’s profile, where there is a box at the end of their bio, that indicates which pages they manage. There is no way to edit this information to hide it from your profile, and it will show as part of your public profile, regardless of what kind of privacy settings you have in place to protect your content.

Creating Your Facebook Business Page

If you do not have anyone else in the company who is willing to attach their personal account to the page for management purposes, you can create a basic account that you flesh out with enough information to prove it is legitimate, and lock down with privacy settings. That said, don’t count on anything you post on Facebook ever being 100% private.

Visit facebook.com/pages/create. Choose the category your new page best fits into, and then follow the on-screen instructions to finish creating your page. Spend time adding all the details to your page so you can start benefiting from it right away. In the page settings, you can add additional admins, contributors, and editors so if you have someone else handling your social media, you can give them the necessary permissions to post content directly.

Once you’ve created your Facebook Page, it’s time to start posting content and engaging in conversation to attract new fans. You can get started by reaching out to people who are on your email list, updating your website to indicate you now have a Facebook profile, and running an ad campaign to build an audience. For best results, spend some time building your social media strategy before you create your page so it doesn’t sit inactive too long before it gets put to use.

Doing so will allow you to share your Instagram content to Facebook automatically, if you so choose, to help expand its reach.

Once you have a Page set up, you can also start a Facebook Ads account, where you can advertise to people on Facebook, Instagram, and other sites that are part of the Audience network. You can also install a Facebook Pixel on your website as part of your remarketing efforts. This tracks who your website visitors are so you can advertise to them when they are on Facebook. It’s highly flexible in the sense that you can advertise only to people who visit certain pages, or abandon their shopping carts. This allows you to integrate Facebook further into your overall digital marketing strategy.

Your Facebook Business Page is essentially your company or organization’s «real estate» on Facebook. It constitutes your main Facebook presence — where you’ll post updates, share content from employees and customers, and link to when referring to your business elsewhere on Facebook.

Consider your Facebook Business Page your Facebook «home.» Moreover, your Facebook Page is not a static site. Sure, there will be static elements like your About information and cover image, but to manage your Page correctly, it should be consistently updated with content.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First, we’ll walk you through how to create a Facebook Business Page. We’ll discuss what to post on it later.

How to Create a Facebook Business Page

Follow these steps to get your Facebook Page up and running in no time.

1. Create a Page.

To begin, head to Facebook. On the left-hand menu, choose Pages > Create New Page. This should launch the Page creator within your Facebook interface.

Once finished, click Create Page.

Clicking Create Page shouldn’t move you off the Page creator. You’ll see two more prompts added to the left-hand menu: to add a profile photo (170 x 170 pixels) and cover photo (1640 x 856 pixels).

Add a logo or widely recognized image for your profile photo. If you have other social media accounts for your business, consider using the same profile photo from those to keep your online presence consistent.

For your cover photo, choose an image that represents the purpose or theme of your Page

You should see these images populate the right side of the Page creator. When finished, click Save.

3. Choose a username and assign a CTA.

After the previous step, Facebook should move you to the Facebook Business Page dashboard where you’ll manage all other aspects of your Page.

This interface can feel overwhelming, so bear with me. First things first, choose a username for your Page. A username helps people find your Page in search and allows them to easily tag your Page when posting about your company. Your username also makes up your Facebook Business Page URL.

For the example below, I chose @cloverconsignment. So, my Facebook Page URL would be https://fb.me/cloverconsignment.

Next, click + Add Action Button to add a CTA to your Page. This should be the action you want your visitors to take when they visit your Facebook Business Page.

Facebook offers 10+ different CTA options, from Shop Now to Learn More to Contact Us, and some allow you to input your website to help drive traffic.

4. Edit your Page info.

After setting a username and choosing a CTA, click More > About in the main menu. This will navigate you to your Page info, where visitors will go to learn more about your organization.

Click Edit Page Info in the top right corner to update this information.

There are many fields to update here. Here’s what to focus on:

5. Understand your Page settings.

In the left-hand navigation, click Settings at the bottom. The left-hand menu will change to more detailed categories, and the right side interface will list (seemingly) countless options.

I encourage you to skim through these settings and get familiar with what each may change or update on your Page. In the meantime, however, I’m going to unpack a few core settings to know.

What to Post On Your Facebook Business Page

As I said in the introduction, your Facebook Page should not be a static site. To manage your Page correctly, it should be updated with content on a regular basis.

Moreover, you should have a good amount of content published before you invite users to be a part of your growing community. Who wants to follow a blank Page, anyway?

When posting on your Page, use a variety of content — images, video, GIFs, memes, shared customer content, or graphs.

What images would your audience like to see? What stats would they like to read? What links would they like to click? Ask these questions to jumpstart a Facebook brainstorm.

If you post a particularly impressive or exciting post, you can pin it to the top of your feed. Do this by clicking the little grey arrow in the top-right corner of the post and tapping Pin to Top to move it to the top for seven days.

You can also use this feature for product announcements, business anniversaries, and other major events pertinent to your brand.

When you have enough content on your Page, start strategically inviting users to Like it. I recommend inviting users in the following cadence:

Promote your Page by sharing its content on your other social networks and including a link to your Page on your website and your email signatures.

How to Measure Your Facebook Business Page

The work you put into your Facebook Page should ease over time. How? By keeping an eye on what kind of content your audience prefers and likes to engage with.

To measure your Business Page activity and growth, click Insights on the left-hand menu. From here, you can monitor how people are engaging with your Page and content, thus showing you what content to focus on sharing in the future (and what content you can do away with).

You should also measure your efforts to ensure you’re making valuable marketing decisions on Facebook. Under Insights, you should see the following:
