Удаление браузера Microsoft Edge в Windows 10
Microsoft Edge Chromium
Windows
Microsoft Edge».
Microsoft Edge HTML
1: Edge Blocker
Edge Blocker.
«Выбор: «Пользователь» или «Группа»»;
В окне «Дополнительные параметры безопасности» перед его закрытием установите отметку в чекбоксе «Заменить владельца подконтейнеров и объектов»;

Disclosure:
Microsoft Edge is a browser that was launched simultaneously with the first version of Windows 10 in 2015. It is built into the operation system, so we can not remove it in standard ways, which include also using any of best uninstallers.
Fortunately or not, there is a big number of Windows 10 users interested in how to uninstall Microsoft Edge. The reason being mostly that its performance is not fast and stable enough. Below, you’ll find brief step-by-step instructions for uninstalling Edge browser using PowerShell utility, third-party tools, and one more method.
Why can’t I uninstall Microsoft Edge in Windows 10?
There are certain difficulties in regards to Edge browser. First of all, in older builds of Windows 10 (until about 1903) it was possible to remove it as a regular program, however such builds suffered vulnerabilities and poor performance.
With each new update, Microsoft made a push to promote Edge and made it impossible to remove by traditional methods. At the time we publish this article, we can deactivate Edge, delete its files or make it impossible to launch, and here are several options.
Option 1. How to uninstall Microsoft Edge via Programs and features
Step 3. In the next window tick a box called “Also clear your browsing data?”. Note, this will erase all Internet surfing history collected by Edge, including bookmarks and credentials. Export this data to another location if you need it and click Uninstall.
Option 2. How to remove Edge using PowerShell
Step 1. Enter PowerShell in the taskbar search box and select the appropriate item from the list of results. Then right-click the PowerShell icon and hit “Run as Administrator”, or same on the right side.
Step 2. Use the Get-AppxPackage command in order to view all installed apps. For easier list reading, you could divide strings of information by Name and PackageFullName parameters. To do so, put in the command (Get-AppxPackage | Select Name, PackageFullName) and press Enter.
Step 3. Find PackageFullName value that contains “Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge” text. Then copy the full value (it will look like Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_20.10240.17317_neutral) and run the following command:
Get-AppxPackage PackageFullName | Remove-AppxPackage
where replace PackageFullName with the copied information. If you want to uninstall Microsoft Edge browser for all PC users then add -allusers parameter:
Option 3. How to prevent Edge from launching
This is kindo of a compromise, as we leave Edge on PC but make it unavailable for users or system services.
P.S. Renaming the work folder makes it impossible for this browser to start, as the system can’t find the required file.
Option 4. Shut off Edge by setting another default browser
Step 1. Install another web browser.
Step 2. Open Start menu and search for Default Apps and open it. Scroll to a web browser tab and click it, select any other browser as default.
Option 5. Uninstall Windows browser from its folder
Step 1. Go to File Explorer then to the drive (C/D/E) hosting Windows 10. There, find the Windows folder and then the SystemApps folder. The path should look like C:\Windows\SystemsApps. Find the Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_(browser version) folder.
Option 6. Delete Edge using external software
Various third-party tools such as Geek, IObit, Revo, Bulk, and other uninstallers are able to remove Microsoft Edge for you without any dangerous impact on PC performance. In order to save your time, we’ve compiled the list of 7 best uninstallers for Windows based on real tests, link to which you’ll find after this chapter. Special 3rd-party software makes uninstallation effective, quick and easy. Let’s highlight 3 examples to help uninstall Microsoft Edge: Geek, IObit and Revo.
Geek Uninstaller. Select all Microsoft Edge apps (by holding the Shift button) in the list of programs in Geek. Right-click on the selected area (or hit the Action tab in the top menu), then click Uninstall option in the pop-up window. Confirm the action to complete.
IObit Uninstaller. Select the Microsoft Edge app (check box), click the Uninstall button in the top menu, or via the trash icon on the right side. Confirm uninstalling in the pop-up window. Note, you could set to create a restore point or remove residual files options beforehand.
Summing up, troubles with uninstalling Edge are mainly experienced with the latest Windows 10 builds. In other instances, it should not be a problem to get rid of this app through common methods we’ve described above.

How to Uninstall Microsoft Edge in 2022: Completely Remove the Default Browser From Your Windows Computer
Microsoft Edge is far from being a popular browser even though it’s the default browser on Windows machines. Microsoft doesn’t provide a straightforward path to removing its famously stubborn browser, so we’ll show you how to uninstall Microsoft Edge in this article.
Microsoft passed the browser torch from the now-discontinued Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge in 2015. Like its predecessor, the Microsoft Edge browser is deeply embedded in the Windows operating system and it can’t easily be removed. We’ll show you how to uninstall Microsoft Edge if you’re one of the many frustrated Windows users with no interest in the developer’s official browser.
Key Takeaways:
The lackluster Edge browser was mostly ignored at the time of its launch, but there were major improvements when it received a Chromium makeover in 2020. Despite Microsoft’s efforts, Edge still hasn’t reached the same level of popularity as other browsers, like Google Chrome or Firefox, causing many to remove Edge from their systems — or at least try to.
Uninstalling Microsoft Edge from Windows isn’t as simple as removing any other program, as Microsoft doesn’t provide an obvious path for removal. Keep in mind that some of these methods might not work depending on your version of Edge or Windows, as future Windows updates are likely to thwart these techniques.
We’ll stick to uninstalling Edge in this article without offering much comment on the browser itself. Check out our full Microsoft Edge review for our complete evaluation of the Edge browser.

The best way to delete Microsoft Edge from Windows is to use the command prompt. On some machines it disables Microsoft Edge, while on others it only rolls it back to the pre-Chromium build. Even when disabled, some files still remain on the computer.
Microsoft Edge is the default web browser for Windows operating systems.
Nothing other than the removal of Microsoft Edge should happen if you follow the uninstallation steps correctly.
How to Uninstall Microsoft Edge With the Command Prompt
The best way to remove Microsoft Edge is to use the command prompt. As of this writing, following these steps on Windows 11 will disable the browser, although it won’t completely erase all of its files. Depending on your system, these steps might also simply roll back Edge to its pre-Chromium legacy version.
First you’ll need to find the version number for your installation of Edge. Open file explorer and enter the path “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\” — you should find a folder with the version number of the most recent installation of Edge installed on your system (e.g. 100.0.1185.36).
Press the Windows key and search for “cmd.” The command prompt will appear at the top of the search results. Right-click on the command prompt and click “run as administrator.”
Including the quotation marks, enter the command cd “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\[installation_number]\Installer.” Make sure to change the installation number to whichever corresponds to your version of Edge.
Without quotation marks, enter the command “setup.exe –uninstall –system-level –verbose-logging –force-uninstall.” This will uninstall the latest version of Microsoft Edge. If you’re using Windows 11, this method should disable Microsoft Edge without completely uninstalling it. Next restart your device. You should not see Microsoft Edge on your computer any longer.
How to Disable Edge & Switch Default Browser
Naturally, Microsoft has made Edge the default browser for opening all file types in Windows systems. This is one way Edge manages to creep up on users who don’t want to use it, so you’ll have to manually change the default browser for each file type.
Press the Windows key. In the search bar, type “default apps” and click on the button with that name.
This menu gives you the option of setting the default application to open individual file types. Scroll down the list to find “Microsoft Edge” and click on it.
In this menu you will see all of the file types Edge is configured to open by default. These include file types such as PDF, HTML, HTM and others.
Select every appearance of Microsoft Edge beneath each individual file type and select your preferred browser. Now your favorite browser will open those file types by default instead of Edge.
How to Stop Edge From Reinstalling
Windows will reinstall Microsoft Edge even if you succeed in removing or disabling it. You can prevent this by making edits in the registry.
Press the Windows key and “R” at the same time. Search for “regedit” and press enter. This will launch the registry editor, but first a window asking for your permission will appear. Click “OK.”
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft. When the registry opens, open the folder in the above path.
Right-click on the Microsoft folder, select “new” and then “key.” Name the new key “EdgeUpdate” (without the quotation marks).
Right-click on “EdgeUpdate,” select “new” and then click “DWORD (32-bit) Value.” Clicking this will create a new key inside the EdgeUpdate key you just created. Rename the new key “DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium” and press enter.
Double-click on the new key and change the value. Left-clicking twice will open a new menu with a box labeled “value data.” It should contain a 0; change it to 1. Click “OK.”
Windows will no longer install Microsoft Edge if you have already removed or disabled it. If you want to undo the changes, change the DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium key’s value back to 0.
How to Remove Microsoft Edge on Windows 7, 8 or 8.1
It is easier to remove or disable Microsoft Edge on older versions of Windows.
Press the Windows key. Search for “uninstall a program” and click on the search result with that name.
Look for Microsoft Edge in the list of applications, click on it and then the “uninstall” option.
A window will appear that displays a box with the caption “also clear your browsing data?” Check this box and select “uninstall.” Reboot your device; Edge will disappear after you restart your computer.
Final Thoughts
It should be clear by now that Microsoft doesn’t want its users to get rid of its default browser. For now, each of these methods will remove Edge from your system, but it only takes a single Windows update to render these steps obsolete. Keep an eye out for new techniques to spring up once Microsoft begins another round of whack-a-mole.
What is your preferred way of removing Microsoft Edge? Are there any uninstallation techniques we didn’t cover here? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and as always, thank you for reading.

Very interesting article, I will give it a try.
Finally, a method that works! TY
Install Linux. This nonsense is just beyond belief.
Yes, then run Windows 10 (or whatever) in a virtual machine as a type of sandbox. That is what I do and I’m gaming on that and everything — works just like a physical install, except I have it “contained” or “confined” in this sandbox from which I feel more at ease. 😅
I think I’m ready to make the jump to Linux because of this crap. They are not attracting customers, but detracting them. Weird business model.
I reinstalled Windows last night. Edge is not located at the specified path “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\”. In fact, there is no longer even a “Microsoft” folder. I suppose MS decided to hide it better so Edge would be harder to remove? Any suggestions on another way to remove this browser would be greatly appreciated.
I did as said and I got a “please close all opened Microsoft windows” message. I don’t have any opened. I’m not even online with my PC.
Any suggestions.
Same here. What to do??
Uninstall the Microsoft Edge
please uninstall microsoftedge
Linux can now run dxvk that’s practically any game that runs on windows prior to dx12 can now run on Linux by converting directx calls to vulkan. You actually have no reason not to try linux now, you can easily use dxvk with steam on linux. There is also the old vga passthrough trick though requires some hardcore nix tricks to pull off imho.
Thank you So much for your Very helpful & informative article on how to remove Edge. I was okay with it being on my pc until this ‘News Feed’ suddenly appeared after some Ms updates! It Never gave me the option to choose it’s appearance & gave no indication or clue on how to stop it or remove it! So, enough is Enough! Time to remove it altogether! Regarding the one person saying he thinks that they hid the Edge folder, you can open Windows Explorer & at the top where it has File/Home/Share/View select View & while still near the top look for the Show/hide pulldown & select it & it will show what if anything is hidden. You can check each available box there to have it showup if you want. Just be careful about changing anything that’s in a normally hidden folder.
Thank you, Jim! Very helpful.
My version of Win 10 won’t let me run PowerShell as an admin.
This is like the crap they put on my machine that I can’t disable or delete in Task Scheduler — like the one that is looking for Edge updates from the mothership every 90 freakin’ minutes, and draining my battery in the process. (I’m trying to work in a remote location where there’s no power, so I have to make every electron in the battery last as long as possible.)
I guess you have to get permission from effin’ Bill Gates or God.
Yes, Microsoft completely blocks my ability (as the owner of the computer) from having Admin privileges! I’m blocked! I’m also fed up with the option of NO CHOICES! Microsoft is toast for me!
How did Ms get around the Govt lawsuit that it levied against them with the original “Windows Explorer”? Yes it is time for me to divorce completely for Mother Microsoft.
Who uses Edge anyway? Firefox or Chrome update in a much smarter way and have less security issues. Not giving users a choice is short-sighted and hurting Microsoft. If users shouldn’t have a choice, Apple Macs are obviously better. If price is an argument, Linux has no competition. Microsoft is just destroying what is making it a better choice.
It is not only a privacy issue but running Windows updates or EdgeUpdate while you are working for instance in real-time apps like music producing leads to bad performance.
This was very helpful Thank You. I normally use Window 7 and Linux, I just picked up a used toughbook with windows 10 upgrade on it. It took me a few trys after hunting down the correct screens to find the info and enter the paths. But I finally killed EDGE. If it comes back when I update, I’ll put a new hard drive and unmolested version of Windows 7 in it and be done with trying to conform.
You shouldn’t be uninstalling edge, it’s a system component supplying webview control and other features to other applications, chrome and edge are both using chromium but edge is the browser that’s supported by microsoft just like apps in android or ios uses webcontrol with the platform’s native browser
My Win10 LTSC 21H2 installation had two of these installers and I think people who’re following these command line instructions may want to take a look at what I did. There was another directory:
And in this location was another installer labeled: MicrosoftEdge_X64_98.0.1108.43.exe
I’m not sure if that long CLSID number will be the same on your machine, so I suggest manually checking those directories, but I was able to run the same commands as above:
MicrosoftEdge_X64_98.0.1108.43.exe –uninstall –system-level –verbose-logging –force-uninstall
The command was accepted but the only way you’ll know that it was accepted is that nothing will happen on the command line, (I.E. there will be no error).
Another thing I did was use Windows UAC to lock the Security Permissions for these directories. How you do this, is by going to the Properties panel and choosing the Security tab. You need to first OWN the directory (and check the boxes to make it recursive, this makes it so changing the top directory permissions will change the perms for all files below) Then you need to Disable Inheritance, and then you remove ALL of the accounts from the list except your Admin name.
Now that you’ve removed SYSTEM from having access to these files, Windows can no longer read/write/modify anything which also means it can’t re-download to this directory.
However, I’m not sure if running the DSIM restore tools will undo this. Be cautious when following advice of people on microsoft help forums because they’ll always tell you to run that to just try running that or SFC any time they don’t know the actual fix for your issue. LOL! It’s like, if you’re just tryin’ stuff, you’re not an expert bud.
Installer\ was actually located under a different directory on my Win10 LTSC 21H2
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeCore\98.0.1108.43\Installer
is this for if it specifically says the directory doesn’t exist, or just if setup.exe is not a recognised command
Thank you so much!! The “EdgeCore” edit fixed my issue with uninstalling this bloatware
IObit has a free program called “IObit Uninstaller” that will remove MS Edge with just 23 clicks of a mouse. I recommend however disabling the program in start up and its start up services because they throw an obnoxious amount of advertising at you if you do not.
Hi there, I have tried this several times now, and while it seems to accept the command, Edge is still here and keeps opening randomly about 53 windows, and trying to reopen over 3,400 tabs now. This has been going on for days, (thus the need to exorcise it) but it just won’t go away. What do I do if this process doesn’t work?😥
I tried this and got the message that the pathway couldn’t be found. I tried searching for some of the other pathways people mentioned finding to no avail. Getting very frustrated with this tbh.
Hello guys! Windows 21H2 here. Edge takes more than 2 GB on my disk. Here is ways in my folders if someone needs:
cd “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeCore\103.0.1264.77\Installer”
How to uninstall and remove the Edge browser in Windows 10
How to Uninstall and Remove Microsoft Edge Browser in Windows 10
In Windows 10, Microsoft introduced a new browser called Microsoft Edge. It was created to replace Internet Explorer. Edge is positioned as a modern browser with support of all mainstream web standards. Microsoft implemented a new rendering engine for the browser, which stripped out a lot of legacy code. However, for many users, Microsoft Edge is not at all impressive. Its user interface is less configurable at all compared to Internet Explorer’s rich options. Many users want to remove Microsoft Edge from Windows 10. Today, I would like to share how it can be done.
Microsoft Edge is now a Chromium-based browser with a number of exclusive features like Read Aloud and services tied to Microsoft instead of Google. The browser has already received a few updates, with support for ARM64 devices. Also, Microsoft Edge is still supporting a number of aging Windows versions, including Windows 7. Finally, interested users can download MSI installers for deployment and customization.
Note: Once installed, it replaces the classic Edge and hides it from the app list. Check out how to have them installed side-by-side.
In this post, we will see how to uninstall and remove the Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 10, both its Chromium and Legacy versions.
We will start with the Chromium-based one.

Well you might like bloatware but a lot of us don’t. If I was an Apple person I would be trying to remove a shit load of Apple bloatware, and Linux has its share of crap.
This is great, my PC is now totally free of these useless modern apps.
Most of them will be probably reinstalled automatically by Windows.
yeah, i uninstalled my edge and windows doesnt happy about it, every 3 days after starting up my laptop, windows yells me in oobe-like screen and reminds me to use their service XD
then windows reinstalls edge even after using this tool
`How to Butcher Windows 10′.
Please remember to leave some vital organs..
Ahaha 😀
Best comment ever.
Microsoft did a fine job of butchering Windows on their own with no help from anyone.
Thanks Sergey, I had to search very hard to find this solution. I do not know if it will break a future update — but every update breaks something anyway! Ah but now my friend you must distinguish between Edge legacy and Edge Chromium because the idiots at Microsoft have decided to use the same name for two completely different browsers, to confuse the public as much as possible. Next they will probably skip a version number (like Windows 9) to make you think the product is better than its competitors.
