There are lots of wrong ways.

Man has spent eons trying to master an art that sounds much simpler than it actually is: drawing boobs.
Think back to elementary school, to the first time you tried to draw boobs on a stick figure. They were probably just two generous circles with dots in the middle of them, plastered to a triangle dress. Your bosom-drawing skills probably haven’t improved all that much since the schoolyard days.
But we’re here to help—to pave the road to a world where no titty is ever drawn so crudely again.
“The best thing that helped me was life drawing classes with a live model,” cartoonist and illustrator Matt Lubchansky told the Daily Dot. “Literally drawing a naked person standing in front of you is the best thing that you can do, over and over and over.”
Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your breast access), both artists we chatted with said that the best way to learn is to have boobs right there in front of you. Illustrator Rose Feduk also notes that life drawing classes are the best way to learn. She points out that a lot of art books on anatomy don’t have a lot of guidance on boobs because they’re mostly focused on the muscles and the bones in the body.
According to Lubchansky, starting in the right spot is the main thing. You also have to make sure they’re not orb-like, which is how a lot of people draw them. He’s not sure where that trend started, but you see it a lot.
And one important thing to keep in mind when drawing boobs is that they’re much more fluid than the stiff depictions that they often get in drawings.
“Basically boobs are sacks of flesh that hang off your body that are constantly affected by gravity. One of the problems I see a lot is that people draw round, perfect breasts where they’re like spheres, which is not like real life,” Feduk says. “It’s kind of like if you had a water ballon and had it dangling out in front of you, that’s closer to how a breast is in real life.”
There are plenty of other mistakes that Lubchansky and Feduk have often spotted. Drawing the boobs too high or low will make the bosoms look wonky in relation to the shoulders. Or sometimes they’re ridiculously sized, like two watermelons sitting under a woman’s neck.
Oftentimes, already existing drawings that have unrealistic portrayals of boobs can perpetuate the problem. People see these and try to recreate them without realizing that tits don’t actually look like that.
“There’s a lot of sort of conflicting information on how they’re drawn just because of the medias out there. You see a lot of examples where they’re drawn wrong, like a lot of people will draw them as big balloons that are stuck on the front of the chest, which is not how they behave,” Feduk says. “If you have boobs, you don’t have cleavage when you’re at rest. I see that a lot, where boobs are closely pushed together as the lady is just standing there, which doesn’t happen, physically can’t happen. There’s the way that a woman is wearing a shirt, the shirt is plastered to her body so that you can see each individual boob, but in real life they hang.”
And can you guess who the typical culprits are?
As for actual tutorials, there are several on DeviantArt that keep in mind how boobs actually exist and how to draw them. User ragingtofu posted one of the more popular versions back in 2010, but it still gets lots of credit for being helpful. You can check it out here.
Just the beginning of ragingtofu’s great tutorial.
Good luck on your future rack drawings. And be sure to avoid any booby traps.
How To Draw Boobs Step By Step
Do you want to learn how to draw boobs; because I want to teach you how in this step-by-step tutorial. I’m not going to lie; drawing women’s breasts is one of my favorite things to draw. And that’s because I love drawing women a lot. If you are familiar with my work, I illustrate mermaids quite frequently. So I have tons of drawing experience with boobs. I will keep this tutorial simple and easy to follow. I don’t want to bog you with too much about the anatomy. However, knowing basic anatomy does help. On that note, are you ready to learn how to draw boobs?
Photos of Women’s Boobs
Before we start drawing anything, we need to get familiar with boobs. The best way to learn the anatomy of boobs is by gather reference images. A great place to gather references is Pinterest. I like Pinterest because you can place all your pictures on one inspiration board. Due to the nature of the subject, be cautious on which site you grab your images. A safe place to search for photos of bare breasts is Shutterstock or any other stock image site. To save you the trouble, I created an inspiration board at the link below. At the end of this tutorial, I’ll link some helpful books.
Warm-Up Sketches
Once you are familiar with your reference images, I recommend at least a 10-minute warm-up sketch session. This exercise helps build confidence in yourself and relaxes your mind. Trust me, nothing is scarier than a blank canvas. The key here is to have fun. Don’t worry about the quality of the sketches. Also, feel free to draw other things too.
Tools
For this tutorial, you can either follow my instructions using traditional media such as pencil and paper or digitally with a drawing app. The choice is up to you. To keep things simple for me, I like creating these tutorials using Procreate because it saves me time and the hassle of scanning images to my computer. If you are a Procreate user, check out my FREE brushes at the link below; this is my go-to set when creating artwork in this app.
If you are a digital user, use blue for sketching. For pencil and paper users, keep your marks light. The directions are as followed.
Step 1: Basic Torso
Step one is to sketch out a simple sketch of a women’s torso. This torso will consist of the rib cage and pelvic. With that in mind, loosely sketch out an oval shape with a concave curve at the bottom. Then draw the pelvic as a trapezoid with bowed segments. Also, give a little space to separate the rib cage and pelvic. After you sketch out the ribs and hips, add a centerline and lines for the love handles.
When it comes to drawing a women’s torso, remember that the hips are «wider» than the upper body, this will keep your sketch looking feminine. If you are confused, please watch my video so you can see how I draw this.
Step 2: Clavicle and Shoulder blades
Next, draw in the clavicle and shoulder blades. For the clavicle, simple lines that are angled about 20° are fine. And for the shoulder blades, let’s keep these simple by drawing upside-down triangles.
Step 3: Sketch In the Boobs
Once you have your basic women’s torso sketched out, you can now add in the boobs. To do this, draw two egg shapes on the rib cage. Also, angle your egg shapes to the center of the clavicle. The bottom of the breast ends a bit above the bottom of the rib cage. Add center lines to your boobs. Make sure to follow the angle of your shapes. You can also add the belly button; this is around the top or slightly above the pelvic.
Step 4: Drop Layer Opacity
After you complete your boob sketch, drop the layer opacity of your layout to about 30%. For pencil and paper users, make sure your sketch marks are light.
Step 5: Refine Sketch
If you are a drawing app user, create a second layer on top of your sketch drawing. Switch your brush color from blue to black. On this layer, refine the details of your sketch drawing. Here I want you to focus on the boobs, clavicle, and overall shape of the torso. Notice which areas I focus on in my diagram. Do not refine all your lines in your sketch. We need to be selective and omit the lines that are just guides.
Traditional users, refine your details by pressing firmer on your pencil.
Step 6: Add Shadows
For digital users, create a third layer and place it on the top of all your other layers. Use this layer to add shadows and extra details to your drawing. As for the traditional user, keep working on your illustration. Use your eraser to remove any unwanted guides.
Now that you have your line drawing complete, you can now add shadows to your women’s torso and boobs! Don’t be afraid to add a good cast shadow below the boobs. By adding this detail, you will make your boobs pop from the rib cage and add depth. Another shading tip for boobs is shading below the clavicle around the upper edge of the torso. This shading is lighter than the cast shadow. Be cautious when you add this shadow.
That was the last step, and if you’re a digital user. Your layer panel should look something like this diagram.
Boob Drawing Complete
If you made it this far, you have completed drawing your torso with boobs. And that’s how you draw boobs! Give yourself a high five! If your drawing didn’t come out looking like mine, don’t worry. It takes time and lots of practice to draw a good torso. Keep practicing, and remember my tips! You will get better, but you need to be patient.
As stated earlier, I would link some helpful books that might help you.
All these books I own and are great for learning human anatomy. I give them my stamp of approval! In the future, I will eventually have my anatomy tutorials! Make sure you subscribe to my emailing list for the latest tutorials and news!

The Three Different Ways To Draw Clothing Over Anime Breasts And What To Call Them
Japanese artist shares illustrated field guide to busty anime visuals such as the boob bag.
As with many things in anime, anime breasts are different from real-life breasts. Most obviously, theyre often larger and more bulbous than their real-world counterparts, while ironically being far perkier, as though busty characters torsos are constantly in the center of a localized anti-gravitational field.
The unique properties of anime breasts also affect anime fashion. With chests being so large and protruding, artists have to put a lot a lot of thought into how clothing will fit over a busty characters upper body, and for reference illustrator and Twitter user Moyugen has prepared a visual comparison of the three most tried-and-true aesthetics, as well as a name for each.
Starting on the left, we have what Moyugen calls the chichibukuro, orboob bag. Far more common in anime than in real-life apparel, the chichibukuro snugly cups each breast individually, even wrapping around underneath the bust.

The whole body is well established, so now we only need to add the details. Even if you don’t care much about showing the muscle definition, the anatomy still influences the final look of the body, so you can’t ignore it. So let’s take a closer look at the anatomy of anime bodies.
The torso is the simplest to draw because it has big, clear muscle masses, and it doesn’t change shape too much. The abs and the pectorals are the muscles known even to laymen, so make sure to mark them.

Fairy Tail Author Gives Advice On How To Draw Breasts
Japan has never ceased to shock the world with its quirky celebratory days. To those who didnt know, 08/01 was Oppai no Hi or Breast Day, and Hiro Mashima a good sport celebrated the auspicious day with detailed advice for how to draw breasts for the budding artists out there.
Hiro Mashima, a manga artist known for his popular manga EDENS ZERO, RAVE and FAIRY TAIL, updated his Twitter account on Sunday explaining the tidbits to draw the alluring bodies of his heroines with illustrations. Mashima sketched two of his favorite heroines from the series RAVE and FAIRY TAIL, to explain the perspectives when the direction of the poses change or how the shapes change with the type of clothes women wear.
Fans were overwhelmed by the sudden free advice from a popular mangaka like Mashima, and soon the post blew up on Twitter. They earnestly thanked him for the tips and agreed with him that usage of out of proportion boobs is not always in demand, except during fan service.
However, it is also true fan service is something authors keep in mind while drawing their characters to gain popularity over time. Apart from Hiro Mashima, another author who paid earnest attention to the way his heroines look is ONE PIECE author, Mr. Eichiiro Oda.
Incidentally, 08/02 is Pantsu Day. Reason is that 8/2 would be pronounced as 8 = pa and 2 as tsu from the English two =pantsu.

How to Draw Breasts
A lot of the time when beginner artists draw boobs, they just don’t look real at all.
When drawing breasts, it’s easy to make them look too flat, too huge, too circular, or just… in the wrong place.
In this lesson, I will be teaching you how to draw breasts with realistic proportions on your female characters.
This is a safe and appropriate environment for learning to draw human anatomy, and I will not show graphic or crude images.
I will show you how to draw breasts while making them anatomically correct, and showing the full shape.
This lesson will have both a How to Draw Breasts Step-by-Step section and an example area after.
The Anatomy of Breasts
If you are going to draw breasts, it’s best to know the anatomy of breasts.
Breasts are mostly fatty tissue, milk ducts, and of course, nipples.
They can be full, flat, and uneven.
Breasts look different when they are in a bra vs. when they are hanging free.
For an in-depth look at the structure and form of the breast, click here for an anatomy visual.
Let’s start by looking at shape:
The first image below (on the left) is a woman wearing a supportive bra.
You can see the nipples are pointed outward, and that the breasts are lifted and separated to show a more full shape.
In the second image (the one on the right) the woman is not wearing a bra.
The breasts hang free and have a more natural, hanging water-balloon-type shape.
When you are drawing breasts, remember that bras matter, and that each woman has a unique shape and size to her.
The BASICS of How to Draw Breasts: step-by-step
In this section, I am going to go over the very bare-bones basics of how to draw breasts.
For the example I am going to show a woman facing forward.
Step One: Start with Circles
Start by drawing two circles.
Something that can help is if you draw a vertical line in the center of the chest, from the clavicle to the bottom of the rib cage.
The bottom center of each half is where you will draw the circles.
This may seem low, but trust me on this.
Step Two: Find the Centers
This part is mostly for knowing which way the breasts are facing and is important especially if you are shading at all.
Draw a triangle (use pencil for this, not pen or marker), the top should be the center of the clavicle.
The bottom two points are where the nipples should be.
From here, underline the breasts.
Step Three: Outline the breasts and waist.
Start to outline the whole breasts.
They should look round, but not like circles anymore.
Think of water balloons. The weight hangs toward the bottom when you hold one by the tie, right?
This is a similar situation.
The breasts should be round, but not circular.
Step Four:
At this point, you can erase your original sketch.
You should have a solid outline for the breasts and upper torso.
Step Five:
Finish the drawing!
You can now add any clothing items.
How NOT to draw Boobs
Let’s look at this important topic first: How NOT to draw boobs.
Just like we talked about before, breasts are far from giant circles under a woman’s shirt, so let’s not draw them like they are.
DON’T make them giant circles.
The problem with drawing breasts in a circular shape is that it makes them look stiff and hard.
You don’t want that.
How to draw breasts from a front view
Proportions: the Triangle
Let’s talk a little more about the triangle we saw earlier.
The triangle is especially helpful when drawing from a front view, or angle view.
This way you can make sure the breasts are even.
Another tip is to leave space between the breasts. Typically, breasts naturally hang with about two inches between them.
When they are in a tight bra or push-up bra, this may be different and they make have a more squished appearance.
How to draw breasts from a side view
Let’s try the side view.
When drawing the breasts straight on from the side, you will only see one.
If the woman is wearing tighter clothing, it is okay to show the cupping underneath the breast.
If she is wearing layers, it’s unnecessary, and the image will look better if you can just see the top outline of the breast.
How to draw breasts in a bra
When drawing breasts with a bra you need to think of a few things.
In the example below, I show you the four steps I use when drawing a woman in a push up bra.
How to draw breasts under a shirt (with a bra)
This one can feel a little tricky because you can only see the outline of the breasts.
Here are the steps I used to draw breasts under a shirt:
How to draw breasts under a shirt (without a bra)
This is an image that may remind you of television from the nineties.
In the image below I show you how to draw a woman without a bra. But she is wearing a tight shirt.
In the last image, you can see that I didn’t draw the cup on her left side fully.
This is because with a shirt on, you would be able to see some of her breast outline but not the whole thing.
It looks better and more realistic this way, in my opinion.
Practice drawing different cup sizes
Not all women are large-chested, and not all women are flat-chested.
Practice drawing breasts of every shape and size! Use reference photos to help if you want to.
This is a good way to diversify your female characters and make them as unique as they are.

how to draw boobs
Do you want to learn how to draw boobs; because I want to teach you how in this step-by-step tutorial. I’m not going to lie; drawing women’s breasts is one of my favorite things to draw. And that’s because I love drawing women a lot. If you are familiar with my work, I illustrate mermaids quite frequently. So I have tons of drawing experience with boobs. I will keep this tutorial simple and easy to follow. I don’t want to bog you with too much about the anatomy. However, knowing basic anatomy does help. On that note, are you ready to learn how to draw boobs?
Drawing breasts are a lot easier than some may think once you understand the basic makeup of the breast although I’m sure when we all first started attempting to draw our first nude we stuck two circles at the top of our females chest, stuck a small circle in the middle for the nipple area and thought, right that’s the breasts.
So if you want to learn the correct way to draw breasts on a woman you are in the right place. The first thing you need to understand is that the breast is not a solid object stuck to the woman’s chest as is often portrayed.
It is made up mostly of specialised tissue called glandular tissue which produces the milk, and adipose tissue which is a group of fat cells that extend from the collarbone, to the underarm and across the rib cage.
The amount of fatty tissue in the breast determines it’s size, while the shape of the breast, and how it sits on the chest is determined by the connective tissue and ligaments supporting it. Examples of this can be seen later in this tutorial.
The fact that it is made up mostly of fatty tissue means that it does not protrude out of the chest like a half round football as often portrayed when you first attempt to draw a female nude but instead moves and reshapes itself according to the position or pose of the body which I will try to demonstrate throughout this series of tutorials.

Below are two examples, Fig 1 being the more convincing feminine interpretation of the breast with the breast sitting naturally on the chest and the nipple positioned more realistically as due to gravity they tend to always point slightly down and out. Whereas in Fig 2 the breasts are more solid looking and appear to be stuck on the chest with the nipples pointing forwards.

Again when shaping the breast In profile, or if my female is slightly twisting I imagine a right angle where I want to position the breast and then add the shape of the breast. I make sure the top line is longer than the bottom and curve both lines to form the shape.
For more examples of how the breasts look in difrerent pose please also see the tutorials on drawing arms
It is important that you make the top line longer or your breast may look out of proportion. Obviously, if the pose needs this to be different then again use your eyes to decide what looks best. With that said, all breasts vary so next lets first look at the most well known natural types of breast shape.
