Since its theatrical release in 1977, the Star Wars franchise has taken the world by storm. One of its most iconic characters is the menacing Darth Vader.
Vader began as a young boy rescued from slavery on a desert planet. Trained in the mystical arts of the Jedi Knights, he was thought to be the «chosen one» who would «bring balance to the Force.» Instead, young Anakin Skywalker was seduced by the evil emperor and became a Sith Lord, using his abilities to lead the galaxy into war. Before his death, Vader found redemption as his son Luke Skywalker helped him to embrace the light side of the Force once more.

To draw Darth Vader, you will need only a pencil and paper. You may also want to use an eraser to correct any mistakes, and colored pencils, crayons, pens, or markers to color your finished picture.
As you follow the steps in this drawing guide, you will notice that each step is accompanied by an illustration. New lines added in each step are highlighted in blue, whereas lines from previous steps are shown in black. Sketch your lines lightly at first, as you will be erasing some of your early lines in order to complete the picture.

How to draw darth vader
Step 6: On the outside of the main oval, draw two tilted L shapes that start and end just outside of the two horizontal construction lines. Draw one L shape smaller and inside of the larger one. Draw that same shape again on the right side. Extend the lines of his nose to the top of his head. These lines will make up this Star Wars character’s helmet.
Step 7: That’s it for the initial sketch of Darth Vader from Star Wars! You have the basic Darth Vader shape, so now you will go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 8: Darken in Darth Vader’s helmet by drawing a curved line that starts where the construction lines cross in between his eyes. Draw this line so it follows the small L shape outside his head, and end just below the L shape. Draw the same thing on the other side. Now darken in the middle portion of his helmet (the lines extending up from his nose). Start above the curved line you drew earlier in this step and follow the outside L shape. Connect the two lines at the end with a slightly tilted horizontal line. Finish drawing Darth Vader’s helmet by darkening the top part of the main oval.
Step 9: Tighten Darth Vader’s nose shape by drawing another arc on top of the original arc you drew at the bottom of his nose. Connect the bottom half of his nose with the top half using slightly tilted vertical lines. Darken the remaining lines on the top half of this Star Wars character’s nose.
Step 10: To tighten Vader’s mouth, draw two small circles on the bottom corners of his mouthpiece. Draw an outline around his mouth that connects with the nose piece. Draw 10 vertical lines inside his mouthpiece that are evenly spaced.
How to Draw Darth Vader
Hello! Today we will tell you how to draw Darth Vader. We already drew this character but it was Anakin Skyoker without armor and mantle. Today we will try to draw something into which this confused and deceived guy has turned.
Step 1
Firstly we will draw a stickman of our evil lord. You can pay attention to the slight bias of the rounded figures of the chest and pelvis. The rest is an ordinary male figure of medium height (about 7 head lengths). As in all male figures, the chest here is much wider than the pelvis.
Step 2
Now let’s create the silhouette of Darth Vader. We connect the head and chest, and then the chest and pelvis. After that, we circle the arms and legs with the help of long elongated cylinders. Feet and fists look like angular large asymmetrical figures. At the end of the step, we outline a pair of intersecting lines to outline the contours of the helmet.

Step 3
In this step we will draw the contours of the special signs of Darth Vader. Firstly, we outline the contours of the helmet. It looks like a small arc that is located behind his head. How to Draw Darth Vader
Hello, dear readers of Drawingforall.net! And now the day has come when will show you how to draw one of the the most famous and charismatic villains of all time – Darth Vader. Indeed, it is almost the only character who appeared in all episodes of the Star Wars, in fact, in each he was the central figure around which the story unfolded. In the episode “The Phantom Menace,” he was quite a small child, and in the final episode “Return of the Jedi,” he was the Lord of the Sith.
The lesson is difficult but if you pay attention to our advices, the complexity can only be easily correctable. So, let’s get to this lesson and learn how to draw Darth Vader!
Step 1
Let’s start with stikman – man made of sticks and circles, which we draw to denote the basic proportions of the character, his posture and the position on the paper. As we all know from previous drawing lessons about characters with a similar pose and figure (on how to draw Batman, for example), male growth is the sum of the lengths of its seven or seven and half heads, 4 of which falls on the legs.
And as in all other lessons, we start from the head, which we denote in the shape of oval. Then, using simple lines draw the spine, shoulders and limbs. Sketch out the joints of knees and elbows using short strokes.
Step 2
In this step we add volume to the figure of our today’s character. Draw the neck using a short cylinder. Sketch out the torso, using big cylinder. Using lines from the previous step, circle the arms (top to bottom), using two cylinders and square. Using a triangular shape draw the pelvis and move to the legs. Using shapes of elongated cylinders sketch out the legs. Note that most of the legs will not be visible on the end of the lesson.
Legs can be divided into three parts – the thigh, lower leg and foot. Thighs gradually narrows toward the knee, lower legs in the area have a characteristic curve of the calf muscle, after which the legs narrow towards the feet.
Step 3
In this step we add some general details to the figure of Darth Vader. As we know, Darth Vader has distinctive features of clothing, such as the helmet and magnificent cape. Let’s draw these elements of the suit straight in this step. But first we mark up two lines of the facial symmetry – vertical and horizontal.
Note, that the lines should be very smooth and light, in order to to make it easier to erase them in the next steps. Also, pay attention, that the lines crossed in the middle of the face. Now helmet.
Draw the rounded line of the top of the helmet as in our sample. And also draw the rim of the helmet as in our example. Next – cape. Draw it using two smooth and diverging down lines.
Step 4
By the way, did you know that Darth Vader costume sketches for the first part of the epic (ie the 4th episode) drawn from the armor of the samurai?
Immediately below the horizontal line of the eyes draw oblong, flattened orbit, underneath draw two arcs, one under each eye socket. Step 5

Step 6
As you can see, we draw our dark lord from the head downward. In this step we draw the cape. In order to make the realistic cape, we need to add some vertical folds and flaps of tissue. Actually folds are formed when the cloak falls from the shoulders, they diverge and become more frequent towards the end.
Step 7
We outline the folds of fabric on the torso, draw the contours of the chest panel. By the way, the suit of Darth Vader is not only armor, it also represents a complex system of medical devices that support breathing and other vital functions in the body of the mutilated Sith Lord. You can draw an analogy with Tony Stark, Iron Man, suit which also includes a breastplate with a complex mechanism, that supports the vital processes.
Step 8
Draw the panel, located on the torso and a large plate, on which the panel is mounted. Under the plate, draw a belt with a massive buckle. Draw also the folds of fabric, which are formed because of the very tightly stretched belt.
Then draw a part of the armor that covers the groin (Which is similar to a protective item of clothing of athletes). In this very step we draw the arms, more precisely the visible parts of the arms. Using the lines from the previous steps, draw the hands, mark on them phalanges and knuckles.
Step 9
We proceed to the last step in the tutorial on how to draw Darth Vader. In this step we draw the legs. Draw smooth lines on the shoes of Darth Vader. Using very light long vertical and short horizontal lines draw the texture of the pants of our villain. Also don’t forget to add some folds to the pants and shoes.

How to draw darth vader
Step 11: Darken in the ovals that make Darth Vader’s eyes, and draw a C and a backward C on each side of his eyes. Draw these Cs to follow the shape of Vader’s eyes, but have them connect to the bottom of his eyes (instead of following the eye shape all the way around).
Step 12: To finish the shape of Darth Vader’s head, darken the original oval shape until you reach slightly below his nose. Then connect the line to the bottom of his mouthpiece. Draw this part so it comes in slightly from the original oval shape. Connect the lines you created earlier from the L shapes to the helmet using slightly curved horizontal lines.
Step 13: Draw a few lines inside Darth Vader’s face to indicate the structure of his helmet. First draw a couple of curved vertical lines (make them slightly diagonal) from the top of his helmet to the circles at the bottom of his mouthpiece. Next draw a set of curved horizontal lines from his nose to the slightly diagonal lines you just drew.
Step 14: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Darth Vader from Star Wars. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or complete your Darth Vader drawing by continuing to the next step.
Step 15: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Darth Vader drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Darth Vader drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Darth Vader is a bit harder to color because of the glare on his helmet. Color the helmet black, but make sure to leave some white portions that represent the glare. Use the picture above for reference. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Darth Vader from Star Wars.
