How to Draw Sonic the Hedgehog

Introduction: How to Draw Sonic the Hedgehog

This Drawing so simple step by step.Start drawing Sonic the Hedgehog with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Intro

To draw Sonic the Hedgehog, start by drawing a circle slightly to the left of the page. This will be the basic shape for Sonic the Hedgehog’s head.

Step 2:

Next, draw two intersecting lines, one vertical and one horizontal line that bend to the contour of the sphere. Draw the horizontal line low on the circle, and draw the vertical close to the left edge. These will be construction lines that will help you place Sonic the Hedgehog’s features later on.

Step 3:

Now draw two triangles on top of his head, which will be Sonic the Hedgehog’s ears. Draw the left triangle on the top left side of his head, and draw the right one inside his head.

Step 4:

Draw in the guide for Sonic the Hedgehog’s eyes by drawing a wavy line that begins at the left ear, curves down toward the horizontal construction line, curves back up toward the right ear and finally dips down and rests on top of the horizontal construction line. The completed shape will resemble an S on its side.

Step 5:

Draw Sonic the Hedgehog’s nose as a tilted oval placed near the point at which the two construction lines cross. Draw the nose so it extends beyond the edge of the main circle.

Step 6:

Draw in a cheek line by making a backward C-shaped curve below the wavy line of his eyes. To the left of this line, draw a tilted letter D shape for Sonic teh Hedgehog’s mouth.

Step 7:

Sketch in basic guides for the spikes on the back of Sonic the Hedgehog’s head by drawing three triangles. Draw one spike on the top right of his head, and make it slightly graze the tip of the right ear. Draw the middle spike slightly pointing down, and make the last one point down and end touching the bottom part of his cheek line.

Step 8:

That’s it for the initial sketch of Sonic the Hedgehog from the Sega video games! You have the basic Sonic the Hedgehog shape, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 9:

Tighten the shape of Sonic the Hedgehog’s nose and draw it skinnier the closer it gets to his face. Draw a small oval within it to indicate glare.

Step 10:

Using the shape of his head and the horizontal construction line as guides, draw in Sonic’s snout. It almost looks like a hot dog.

Step 11:

Tighten Sonic the Hedgehog’s mouth by curving it more and drawing a laugh line on top. Inside his mouth, draw a curve near the top for his teeth and one below for his tongue.

Step 12:

Darken the wavy line that makes Sonic the Hedgehog’s eyes, but draw an extra line in the middle to represent his furrowed brow. Above each of Sonic’s eyes, draw a large curve to represent the rest of his brow. Draw the curve on the left so it comes out of the main circle a bit.

Step 13:

Finish drawing Sonic the Hedgehog’s eyes by closing the part of the main circle below his left brow. On the right sides of his eyes, draw three long ovals inside each other and shade the middle one in. These will be his irises, pupils and glare. A large portion of the eye on the left will be hidden by Sonic’s brow.

Step 14:

Tighten the shape of Sonic the Hedgehog’s ears. Draw them more round so that they won’t be so pointy. Draw a trianglelike shape within the right ear to represent the inside part of Sonic’s ear.

Step 15:

Using the triangle spikes on Sonic’s head as guides, tighten the spikes on his head. Draw them so they curve down and slightly overlap each other.

Step 16:

That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Sonic the Hedgehog from the Sega video games. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

Step 17:

For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Sonic! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Sonic drawing.

For a completely finished Sonic the Hedgehog drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Sonic’s head blue, his eyes green, his mouth and inside ear peach, his nose and inside mouth black, and his tongue is pink. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Easy Sonic Drawing: Simple Step by Step Reference Instructions

We start this easy how to draw Sonic tutorial by drawing a circle.

Draw the spikes on the back of Sonic’s head. Do this by drawing six curved lines, one long and then one short. Allow the lines to connect in sharp points.

Draw a smaller oval overlapping the bottom of the head.

Erase the guide lines from the oval.

Draw Sonic’s ears, using two curved lines for each. Allow the lines to meet in sharp points, forming a triangular shape.

Draw a small triangle within the near ear. The outline of Sonic’s head is now ready.

Draw two curved, parallel lines extending outwards from the body. Draw another curved line, doubling back on itself, overlapping the body.

Erase guide lines from the head and arm.

Draw the legs extending downwards from the body, using two curved lines for each.

Erase the guide lines from the body.

Draw an oval just beyond the end of each arm. Add two more spikes behind Sonic.

Draw the rest of the hand between the arm and each oval. The left hand will consist of two curved lines forming enclosed shapes. Note the «thumbs up» of the left hand. The right hand consists of a small oval overlapping the larger oval, and a curved line enclosing a partial oval shape.

Erase the guide lines from the hands.

Draw the fingers using a series of connected, curved lines within the large ovals of the hands.

Erase the guide lines from around the fingers.

Draw socks at the bottoms of the legs. Begin by connecting the leg lines using a curved line. Then, use a series of three curved lines of various sizes to enclose the shape of the socks.

Extend a short, curved line downwards from the sock. Then, draw a long, curved line from the other side of the sock to the short line. Draw two more curved lines across the shoe.

Use two curved lines to form the left shoe, meeting in a point. Draw two more curved lines across the shoe.

Using a curved line, enclose an oval shape across the torso. Draw a curved line beginning at the side of the face, extending to the shoulder. Using curved lines, draw two partial ovals above the previous curved line. Connect the partial ovals using a curved line.

Next, we’ll complete Sonic’s head and facial features.

Draw and shade a small oval within each of the partial ovals. Draw a curved line above each eye for eyebrows. Draw and shade another oval to form the nose. Draw a curved line to form the mouth, with a smaller curved line at its upper end.

Draw two short, curved lines meeting in a point to form the tail.

Complete your Sonic drawing by erasing a small oval shaped area inside each eye and nose.

He’s a bit more difficult than other characters we draw; mainly his arms and hands can be a bit of a challenge.

Art Supplies

Otherwise, just pick whatever coloring tools you have around the house (crayons, markers, pencil crayons etc.) and just have some fun!

A Few Tips Before You Start Drawing

Let’s Draw Sonic The Hedgehog – Step By Step

Step 1: Follow the arrows from the front of the face. Continue around until you reach the bottom hair spike.

For the last line, you can start from the front of the face and bring it back to connect to the last hair spike.

Step 2: Draw the nose. It’s black so it might help you if you color it in now.

You can try the eye outlines next.

Follow the arrows up and down to create the curves.

Try and end the line around the same height as the top of nose. Finish off with the mouth outline.

Note: If it helps, you can try doing the mouth outline first instead of trying to line the eyes with the nose height.

Step 3: Follow the arrows from the front of the face. Continue around until you reach the bottom hair spike.

For the last line, you can start from the front of the face and bring it back to connect to the last hair spike.

Step 4: Start the body. A simple rounded curve.

Step 5: This part is a bit tricky. Start with the arms. The glove/hand is a bit difficult. You can start with the thumb and go up and around. Connect to the arm.
You can switch over to the other side of the hand after.

Step 6: It’s actually better to start with the thumb here and get the glove finished before connecting the arm.

Step 7: Adding detail to the inside chest/stomach area. Just 2 lines.
Also adding additional spike hair to the back.

Step 8: Starting the legs. Simple lines down. Don’t make them too wide. Sonic has skinny legs.

Step 9: His sock are very similar to the bottom of his gloves.

Step 10: The shoes are a mix between triangle and cone shaped.
Add the lines inside for detail..

Step 11: Sonic’s face is just 2 black eyes with white circles inside. Add a little smile for a mouth.

Step 12: Sonic’s outline is a bit hard to draw but the coloring is MUCH easier.
