How to Drop Trinkets in the Binding of Isaac (All Consoles)
Trinkets can give you the edge in BOI and can sometimes be the difference between winning a run or not. The likes of the Cracked Crown, Cancer, and Curved Horn particularly stand out as great trinkets, particularly if you’ve got some great tear synergies to go along with them.
Every so often, though, you’ll come across trinkets that you’ll want to get rid of as soon as possible (Cursed Skull, Butt Penny, Mom’s Toenail, etc). It took me a while to realise that it was even possible to drop them, and we don’t want you to make the same mistake. Here’s how to drop trinkets in the Binding of Isaac, with instructions for each console.
How to Drop Trinkets
Dropping a trinket on the PC is as simple as holding down the CTRL key for about 5 seconds. It is the same button that allows you to switch between different consumables, but pressing for longer will drop all trinkets.
For the PS4, you also use the same button that you would for switching between consumables if you have more than one. In this case it is the R2 button. Simply hold the R2 button for roughly 5 seconds.
For the Xbox, press down the RT button for around 5 seconds to drop trinkets.
For the Switch, hold down the ZR button for 5 seconds to remove a trinket from your inventory.
Can you drop cards and pills in BOI?
Dropping cards and pills in the Binding of Isaac is exactly the same as dropping trinkets. In fact, if you follow the instructions above according to the device, you will drop all cards, pills. Runes, and trinkets (unless you are holding the Tick trinket).
After dropping the particular item you need, simply pick up the remaining items that you want to keep and be on your way.
Can you drop active items in BOI?
There is only one way you can drop active items in the Binding of Isaac. For this, you will need to have the Butter trinket. With the butter trinket in your inventory, simply use the active item in order to drop it on the floor. This can be especially useful in a room with a reroll machine.
Having an active item with no recharge time (such as How to Jump?) will allow you to create multiple pedestals on the floor, and you can use Diplopia to take advantage of this by gaining items from the doubled pedestals.
The only other way to remove an active item from your inventory is to swap it with another active item on a pedestal.

The Binding Of Isaac: How To Drop Trinkets
Trinkets are incredibly useful in The Binding Of Isaac, but some of them might not be worth keeping around. Here’s how you can drop them to make room.
In The Binding of Isaac, you have your reusables, passive upgrades, one-time items, and trinkets. These trinkets do a whole host of things from letting you open golden chests without keys to having a little Isaac head bob about, aiding you in fights.
However, not all are great to have. Some can make your tears fire in sporadic twirling formations, often making it hard to aim. Great for Brimstone, not so much for slow-paced and small droplets. You might not want certain trinkets after learning what they do but don’t worry as they can be dropped.
It’s easy to do but it’s not something that’s immediately made aware to the player, so don’t beat yourself up if you didn’t know that it was something you could do. Nonetheless, now that we’re on the same page, here’s how.
How To Drop Trinkets
Hold down left CTRL on PC, R2 on PlayStation, RT on Xbox, or ZR on Nintendo Switch.
This will cause you to fling your little trinket onto the ground as though you were swapping it with another trinket. Only by doing this, you’re swapping it with an empty space, clearing out your pockets.
You can then pick up your trinket again if you want, much like with cards, pills, or other items. As such, if a trinket would benefit you with a new item you find later on the same floor, then you can always come back to it.
Meanwhile, if you have Mom’s Purse, you can hold two trinkets at the same time, benefiting from both their boons. You can’t cycle between them, however, so you’ll have to drop both and pick up the one you want to keep.
You also cannot drop the Tick. If you pick it up, you’re stuck with it. That means that you can’t manually leave it behind or swap it with another, but through Mom’s Purse, you can keep its benefit while also having another trinket active.
Trinkets
They provide passive bonuses, but only one can be held one at a time. The collectible item Mom’s Purse allows two trinkets to be kept at once, but not two of the same trinket. The held trinket is displayed in a slot in the upper left portion of the screen.

Trinkets can be found
Once a trinket drops, it can drop again, but has a very low chance and the trinket dropped will appear reversed (except Mom will still drop the Polaroid at 100% even if you already have it). If all trinkets have dropped, Tarot Cards will start dropping in their place.
List of Trinkets
Gives you a Familiar that looks like Brother Bobby and floats slowly around the room on a pattern similar to The Peeper, shooting long-range spectral homing tears that have high Shot Speed.
Chance of finding a Card when clearing a room is increased by 10%.
Chance of finding a Card when opening a Chest is increased by 66%.
Unlocked by completing Cathedral with Samson.
Hearts dropped through the use of this trinket will always be Half Hearts, and are not affected by items such as Mitre or being spawned in special rooms such as Cathedral Super Secret Rooms.
Effective trinket for Blood Donation Machine use, as the money dropped by the machine will often create a Half Heart, effectively making that use «free». This is even more pronounced with the IV Bag, since it is possible to create as many as four coin drops per Half Heart spent via the item.
Unlocked by completing the Large Marge challenge.
Bombs dropped through the use of this trinket will always be single Bomb pickups.
Chance of finding a Heart when clearing a room is increased by 10%.
Chance of finding a Heart when opening a Chest is increased by 66%.
Hearts dropped due to this trinket are treated as normal heart drops: they have a small chance to appear as Soul Hearts or Eternal Hearts. Items such as Mitre or Mom’s Pearl will affect this chance.
If Isaac has less than one full Red Heart after taking damage, he will be immediately teleported to the last cleared room he was in.
The Cursed Skull only counts Red Hearts, and does not count Soul Hearts or Eternal Hearts. Even if the triggering damage is absorbed by a Soul Heart or Eternal Heart, Isaac will still be teleported if he has half a Red Heart or less.
Synergies: + Scapular = Partial immortality, a 1 heart hit could still kill you. + Scapular + Wafer = Complete immortality.
Increases Effective Damage by 2.
Unlocked by completing The Cathedral with Judas
Rather than increasing the Damage stat, the Curved Horn increases the Effective Damage of Isaac’s tears. Because the Damage stat increases Effective Damage by smaller and smaller amounts with each increase, this makes the trinket considerably more valuable at higher levels of the Damage stat. See Damage on the stats pages for a detailed calculation.
5% chance to spawn a Dead Bird familiar for the current room each time an enemy dies.
Works also with coins dropped by the player itself after being attacked by Keepers, Hangers or Greed.
Increases speed by 0.15. Can exceed normal upper bound on speed.
Unlocked by completing The Chest with Isaac.
Tears fired by Isaac’s head do the same amount of damage as those fired by Brother Bobby.
Clearing rooms may heal Isaac by 1/2 of a heart (10% chance).
Replaces all normal chests with Red Chests. Gold chests are affected as well.
Bug v1.48: Can also randomly add The Compass effect.
Increases the chance to get a drop after clearing a room. Although the Luck stat also influences this, it does not actually increase the Luck stat.
The increase in drop chance is applied before the effect of Guppy’s Tail.
Unlocked by Completing the 7 Years Bad Luck challenge.
Increases the chance of a generic drop from clearing a room by roughly 10%, the same amount increased by the Lucky Foot item. If Isaac’s Luck stat is not negative, this raises the chance of an item dropping from 86.6% to 96.3%.
If Isaac also has the Lucky Foot and his Luck stat is not negative, the chance for a drop is only increased by 2% instead. This raises the chance of an item dropping to 98.3%.
If Isaac has a negative Luck stat and the Lucky Toe with or without the Lucky Foot, there is a 100% chance that an item will drop after clearing a room.
Chance of finding a Bomb when clearing a room is increased by 10%
Chance of finding a Bomb when opening a Chest is increased by 66%.
Bombs dropped due to this trinket are treated as normal Bomb drops, and can appear as single pickups, double pickups, or even Troll Bombs.
5% chance to induce The Necronomicon’s effect upon taking damage.
Grants a secondary 10% chance of any non-specific Heart drop turning into a Soul Heart.
The secondary chance triggers whenever a non-specific Heart drops which does not become an Eternal Heart or Soul Heart. It is applied after Eve’s secondary 6.25% chance, but before Mitre’s secondary 50% chance.
By itself, Mom’s Pearl raises the chance of a non-specific Heart dropping as a Soul Heart from 9.8% to 18.62%. Combined with Eve’s bonus, the chance becomes 23.58%. Combined with Mitre, the chance is 58.31%. Combined with both Mitre and Eve’s bonus for the highest possible bonus, the chance is raised to 60.79%.
Holding The Polaroid while opening the big chest at the end of the Cathedral will allow you to continue to The Chest.
Unlocked by completing Cathedral six times. You may use the same characters for all six completions.
In 1.4 through 1.48 it is always dropped by Mom upon completion of The Depths 2.
Improves the chance of Keys and Golden Chests dropping after clearing a room, and chance of finding a Key when opening a Chest. (see info)
Chance of finding a Key or a Golden Chest when clearing a room is increased by 5% for each.
Chance of finding a Key when opening a Chest is increased by 66%.
Improves the chance of Pills dropping after clearing a room, and chance of finding a Pill when opening a Chest.
Chance of finding a Pill when clearing a room is increased by 10%.
Chance of finding a Pill when opening a Chest is increased by 66%.
1/15 chance to increase damage by 0.5 for the current room each time an enemy dies.
Unlocked by completing The Chest with Samson.
Stacks with Bloody Lust, but chance to trigger is too low to be worthwhile.
Drain 15% health of each enemy with more than
60 HP (ie. most bosses).
Also restores one red heart of Isaac whenever he enters an uncleared boss room.
The Tick is stuck into Isaac’s head and cannot be swapped out for another trinket.
Bosses like Larry Jr. / Fistula are made up of entities with less than 60 HP, so their HP are not leeched.
Might be disadvantageous when playing with Eve, as Whore of Babylon will deactivate when entering boss room due to restored health.
The player will be unable to access The Chest without the use of Mom’s Purse, as the nature of this trinket makes it impossible to pick up The Polaroid.
If you already have a Little Steve, Brother Bobby will spawn instead.

There are over 150 trinkets in Binding of Isaac, and they can give you all manner of different abilities and buffs. Sometimes, though, you may just want to get rid of one, or you may just be after unlocking the game’s Tainted Characters. Here’s what you need to know on how to drop trinkets in Binding of Isaac.
How to Drop Trinkets in Binding of Isaac
To drop a trinket, simply make sure you’ve got it selected and ‘equipped’ in your inventory. Now all you need to do is press and hold Left CTRL on PC, RT on Xbox, R2 on PlayStation and ZR on Nintendo Switch for at least three seconds.
This will then cause Isaac to drop the trinket in the room you’re currently standing in. All trinkets can be dropped, except for the Tick, which makes it a little trickier to get rid of as you cannot swap it for any other trinket either.
While dropping trinkets can just be a handy way of managing the various items you pick up on your adventure, it’s also how you’ll unlock Binding of Isaac’s Tainted Characters.
To do this, you’ll first need to open mom’s chest and get the Red Key. After that, you need to drop a trinket on a boss room while descending. When you’re ascending and reach that same boss room, you’ll find the ‘Cracked Key’ item you can pick up instead. Return back home and use the item to unlock a Tainted Character in Binding of Isaac.
That’s everything you need to know on how to drop trinkets in Binding of Isaac. For more tips, tricks and guides, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
