A guide on how to farm Primogems in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play title so everyone can enjoy it, whether you’re on PC, PS4, or even a mobile device! The game uses a gacha system where players can use a various amount of different currencies for the chance of getting something that’s incredibly rare. If you want, you can play the game and receive these currencies naturally through the course of the game, or you can pay real money to access some of them more quickly, through the use of microtransactions.

One such currency that is incredibly important is the Primogem; though it may not be the rarest of the currencies in Genshin Impact, it’s definitely, without a doubt, one of the most vital. Here’s a guide on how to farm for Primogems.

How to Get Primogems

Like everything in this title, there are multiple ways to acquire stuff, and Primogems are no different. The easiest way is to just go log in to the game, and you’ll get a daily login gift, but only if you log in every day; if you miss a day, you cannot get the final login reward. On some days, the gift will be an amount of Primogems. For launch week, if you manage to log in for all 7 days, on day 3 and day 7, you’ll get Primogem as a bonus.

The second easiest way to earn Primogems is just by playing the game. By fulfilling quests, tasks, challenges, and the like, you’ll most likely get Primogems as a reward. Eventually, as you play through Genshin Impact, you’ll unlock the Adventurer’s Handbook. In this book, you’ll be asked to do some mini-quests, and for each one completed, you’ll get a reward. Once all the quests on a page/chapter have been completed, you’ll unlock a bigger reward, which will always give you some Primogems.

Another way to farm Primogems is once you hit Adventure Rank 12. At this rank, the first dungeon opens up called Explore: Windy Cliff, whereupon completion for the first time; you’ll get a bunch of extra rewards. With every third increase of Adventure Rank, other dungeons will become available, the next being at Rank 15, then 18, then so on.

There is a Battle Pass in Genshin Impact, but only when players reach Adventure Rank 20. Like normal, there is a free version and a paid version, which nets you more stuff!

With so many currencies available across Genshin Impact, it can be tricky to know which ones you need to hone-in on to get the high-grade items that you seek.

The big one is Wishes, which can be accumulated by collecting and exchanging some other forms of currency earned by playing the game – specifically, Primogems.

So, how do you get the Primogems needed to make Wishes, and how can you go about farming Primogems to get more Wishes in Genshin Impact?

How Primogems, Fate, and Wishes work

Wishes are the main way to receive new characters and good weapons in Genshin Impact, with there being two currencies used to make Wishes: Acquaint Fate and Intertwined Fate. These are used for the different types of Wishes, also called Banners, in the game.

While you will, at times, get Fate as a reward, the primary way to get more Fate for Wishes is by collecting Primogems. The Primogems can then be exchanged for either Acquaint Fate or Intertwined Fate. For every Fate that you want to buy, it will cost you 160 Primogems.

As new banners with new characters appear regularly, you’ll want to make sure that you’re well-stocked on Primogems at all times. Below, you’ll find some top tips to help you farm Primogems in Genshin Impact – allowing you to make those Wishes to try to get the five-star characters that you want.

How to get more Primogems in Genshin Impact

In Genshin Impact, there are several ways to get Primogems. As one of the key resources in the game, Primogems are quite challenging to farm, but there are many sources from which you can get them.

Complete Achievements to get Primogems

Achievements are a fun way to get more Primogems, even if some of them can be tricky. Many achievements will encourage you to learn more about the game, both story-wise and in technical terms, and most of the time, you’ll get five Primogems per achievement completed.

Some achievements give more, with some of them offering ten or even 20 Primogems upon completion. So, if you complete a bunch, you’ll quickly gain enough Primogems to make some more Wishes.

Find Primogems by opening chests

In the open world, you will find chests of four different varieties, each of which can contains Primogems. In the Common Chests, you can only find Primogems if it was unlocked by completing a mission – such as by defeating a camp of enemies – but you’ll always find Primogems in the three rarer types of chests.

An Exquisite Chest offers two-to-five Primogems as a reward. A Precious Chest delivers five Primogems. The best one, the Luxurious Chest, will open to reveal between ten and 40 Primogems. It might seem like a small amount at first, but you will find that it quickly adds up. While you run around the world exploring, keep an eye out for these chests as they also contain adventure EXP, gear, and more.

At times, they can be just around the bend or under an abandoned wagon, so hunt them down and open as many chests as you can find. You should also note that chests respawn in Genshin Impact, so it’s worth returning to spots that you’ve been to before. If you require some help finding chests, you can use the Genshin Impact World Map to help you out.

Level-up your Adventure Rank to get Primogems and Fate

While exploring the world of Teyvat, you can increase your Adventure Rank through several activities. For each increase in AR, you’ll be able to claim rewards at the Adventurers’ Guild, with the rewards also including Primogems.

For example, at Level 4, you will be rewarded with 50 Primogems, as well as some other rewards like food and Enhancement Ore.

When you hit some new levels, you’ll also be rewarded with Fate, allowing you to skip the stage of farming Primogems to get a Wish.

Level-up the Statues of The Seven

Among the many rewards for levelling up the Statues of The Seven are Primogems. The statues can easily be accessed from the map, and require you to turn in an item corresponding to the statue’s god.

These item requirements are Anemoculus in the Mondstadt region and Geoculus in Liyue, with more regions to come with the expansions of Genshin Impact. Gift the items to the statues, and you will sometimes be rewarded with Primogems.

Pick the right quests to farm Primogems

The Archon Quests are your main story quests, and these give a lot of Primogems, among other rewards. As an additional bonus, they are fun to complete as they reveal fascinating stories from across the world of Genshin Impact and introduce you to some new characters.

While the Archon Quests are rewarding, the quests that you should be doing every day are the Commission Quests. Each day, you’ll find four new Commission Quests, with each completed quest giving you ten Primogems and 20 extra as a reward for turning them in to the Adventurers’ Guild.

So, completing these quest stacks will grant you a total of 60 Primogems each day, which alone will give you enough to make a Wish every three days – with 20 Primogems left to go towards the next one.

Conquer the Spiral Abyss to get hundreds of Primogems

Upon reaching Adventure Rank 20, you will unlock the Spiral Abyss. In the Spiral Abyss, you will find eight floors at first, each with three chambers. After finishing floor eight, you will be able to access floors nine to 12.

To complete a floor, you have to finish the challenge presented to you in each chamber. The challenges are timed, and you will receive a rating from zero to three stars upon completion, depending on how fast you complete the task.

So, in the Spiral Abyss, you can get up to nine stars per floor. If you achieve this feat, you’ll receive a tremendous reward of 300 Primogems in total.

If you are not able to beat a chamber’s challenge fast enough to get three stars, the one or two stars that you do earn will still count towards the next set of three stars needed to claim a reward of Primogems. So, complete as many challenges as fast as you can, and later, return with a stronger team to claim it all.

You should note that the Spiral Abyss Primogems rewards are only given once for floors one to eight. However, the higher floors of nine to 12 reset twice per month.

Capitalise on the Genshin Impact events

There are several kinds of events in Genshin Impact, during which you can earn Primogems, among many other different rewards.

Seize the Day is one such Primogem event, during which, you’ll get 100 Primogems on day three and 200 on day seven. You get these by logging in seven times (once per day) during the event period.

Test Runs are a way for you to test new characters – often the ones available in the Character Event Wish. Most of the time, you will receive 20 Primogems for testing the first character that comes up, with them usually being a five-star character.

There are also plenty of other events that appear Genshin Impact, so keep your eyes open for new opportunities to get those sweet Primogems. At the time of writing, there was an event called ‘Gliding Challenge,’ which is exactly what it sounds like – you go to different locations and complete the gliding challenge available.

Get your MiHoYo freebies

If you want a chance of grabbing some bonus Primogems, check your mail for rewards from the developers. These can come in the form of a ‘thanks for playing’ or ‘apologies for the bugs,’ but either way, you’ll usually get some of the valuable resources. At times, they will also send out surveys: opening the mail itself will give you Primogems, and upon completing the survey, you will receive even more.

Turning Wishes into more Wishes

When you have earned a few Wishes, you’ll notice that you’ve collected Masterless Stardust and Masterless Starglitter. These can be exchanged for items in the shop, but most importantly, they can be traded in for Fate.

There is a limit to how much Fate you can get through this method; you can get five of each type of Fate by exchanging 125 Stardust per month. For Starglitter, there isn’t a cap, and you can get one Fate for every five Starglitter exchanged.

In Genshin Impact, to farm Wishes, you need to farm Primogems. While there isn’t one complete-and-repeat method to farm endless Primogems, by following the activities detailed above each day – particularly the daily Commission Quests – you’ll quickly find that you have plenty of Primogems to spend on Wishes.

Daily Check In

The Daily Check-In rewards the players with a maximum of 60 Primogems in one month. 20 Primogems are rewarded to players after they have logged in for a total of 7 days, for the first three weeks.

Primogems from Quests

Other quest types such as Archon Quests and Story Quests give players Primogems upon completing. You can get Primogems from some World Quests, such as Event Quests, but they don’t all give Primogems.

Primogems from Achievements

Players can get small amounts of Primogems by unlocking game achievements. Some achievements give 5 Primogems, some 10 Primogems, and some 20 Primogems.

Even if the Primogem reward from each achievement is little, there are many achievements in the game! Unlocking all of them can get you a lot of Primogems in total.

Primogems from Game Tips & Tutorials

The game tips and tutorials that pop up while you are exploring actually gives you Primogems! Open the Archive from the Game Menu and select Tutorials. Click all the ones you haven’t read, because one tutorial read = one Primogem.

Primogems from Updates & Bug Fixes

Version Updates always come with a 300 Primogem bonus and a 60 Primogem compensation per additional hour of Server Maintenance! Players will also sometimes receive in-game mail about bugs and fixes, accompanied by a certain Primogems as compensation.

How to Farm Primogems Daily

Primogems from Daily Commissions

Daily Commissions are a sure-fire way to earn 60 Primogems daily. Players will get 10 Primogems for each Daily Commission completed, and 20 Primogems from Katheryne as a reward for completing all Daily Commissions.

Daily Check-In

You can get Primogem rewards from the Daily Check-In on HoYoLab as well. You will not get Primogems everyday, but you will need to log in every day to get to the Primogem rewards. Add this to your daily game responsibilities to get a bit more Primogems!

How to Buy Primogems

Crystal Top-Up: Genesis Crystals

While you cannot buy Primogems directly, you can buy an item called Genesis Crystals. The Genesis Crystals can be turned into Primogems, or used to buy special Character Outfits!

One Genesis Crystal = one Primogem, so the amount of Genesis Crystals you buy will be the amount of Primogems you get.

Buy the Battle Pass: Gnostic Hymn

Initially, the Battle Pass is available to players for free. If you want to get Primogems from the Battle Pass, however, you will have to purchase the Gnostic Hymn and level it up to 50. Doing so will reward you with a few Intertwined Fates and a whopping 680 Primogems!

How to Use Primogems

Use for Wishing on Banners

Primogems should mainly be used to wish on Gacha Banners. While you can technically pull on a Wish Banner with Primogems, you cannot actually pull on a banner with Primogems alone. Primogems are used to buy an Acquaint or Intertwined Fate to be used on the selected wish.

Prioritize Intertwined Fate

It is recommended to prioritize getting Intertwined Fates with Primogems because these are used for Event Banners. Event banners are almost always better to pull on than the Standard Banners!

Can be Used to Restore Resin

You can also use Primogems to replenish your Original Resin instantly. The initial exchange is 50 Primogems = 60 Original Resin, but the Primogem price increases the more you use it to replenish your Resin.

Not recommended for Free-to-Play

Using Primogems to replenish Original Resin is not recommended for Free-to-Play players. Taking the patient route and waiting for Resin will save your Primogems and allow you to wish more on Banners!

How to Farm Primogems (Earn More for Rolls)

How to farm Primogems in Genshin Impact. There are both once off and repeatable rewards to earn. Here’s what you need to do to help save up for those banner rolls.

Farming Primogems

Once-off rewards are great but what were really interested in is how we can continuously earn Primogems for the long run. Let’s take a look at our options.

1. Daily Commissions

Daily Commissions are available at AR12. It’s the most accessible and easy way to farm Primogems.

Everyday you will receive 4 commissions from the Adventurers’ Guild. Each commission gives 10 Primogems and completing all 4 gives an additional 20 Primogems.

That’s 60 Primogems every day.

2. Spiral Abyss

The Spiral Abyss is available at AR20. However the earlier stages only give a once off first clear Primogem reward (more on this later).

Floors 9+ of the Spiral Abyss reset fortnightly. These floors reward 150 Primogems per floor.

However these floors are quite difficult. Unlike with Daily Commissions this method is accessible to beginners.

Currently there are 12 Floors available. That’s 1,200 Primogems per month.

If we just go off a 30 day month that’s a total of 3,000 Primogems up for grabs from Daily Commissions + Spiral Abyss.

3. Monthly Card

Whilst this is a paid method we couldn’t not mention it as it is another source of consistent Primogems.

The monthly card gives 300 Genesis Crystals instantly plus 90 Primogems per day. Genesis Crystals can be converted into Primogems at a 1:1 ratio.

Essentially equating to 3,000 Primogems per month. Yup the monthly card basically doubles what you can earn as a F2P player.

4. Battle Pass

The Battle Pass is available at AR20. It is a seasonal feature with a set of rewards that can be unlocked by leveling the Battle Pass.

The Primogem reward however is only available to those who have purchased the premium Battle Pass (rewards may change in the future).

Currently reaching Lv.50 (Max) Battle Pass rewards 680 Primogems.

Once Time Rewards

Alright let’s now take a look at the one time rewards. You can’t farm these but they give a significant boost to your Primogem wallet.

1. Spiral Abyss

Clearing Floors 1-8 will give a one time Primogem reward. This is one of the biggest ways to boost your Primogem savings.

Earning Stars from floors chambers will reward Primogems. You can earn up to 9 Stars per floor:

That’s a total of 300 Primogems per floor. Totaling 2,400 Primogems across floors 1-8.

2. Opening Chests

Chests are littered all across the world of Genshin Impact. Opening them reward Primogems:

All you have to do is find them. Luckily there’s a very nice interactive map for that.

Whilst I would not recommend going from one chest to the next. If you see one in the area you might want to open it even if it’s a small detour.

More importantly, do chests respawn? The simple answer now is no. Not even common chests respawn. Although new chests may appear as your AR increases the total amount available is finite.

Hopefully this changes in the future.

3. Adventure Rank

As you level up your AR you can go visit the Adventurer’s Guild to collect your reward. Often times this includes Primogems.

Additionally more Primogem rewards are available as you complete your Investigation Progress via your Adventurer Handbook.

4. Domain Dungeons

Discovering new Domains will reward 5 Primogems. Clearing them gives 40 Primogems.

5. Statue of The Seven

Leveling up your Statue of The Seven will reward Primogems. You will receive a total of 90 Primogems for both the Anemo and Geo Statues. Totaling 180 Primogems.

6. Achievements

There’s a whole bunch of achievements in Genshin Impact and they reward Primogems.

It’s probably not something you would go out of your way to clear. But you’ll find that you’ll progressively clear them as you play the game.

Whether you’re a free-to-play (F2P) or a pay to win (P2W) player, here are some methods to gather Primogems:

1. Battle Pass – Using Intertwined or Acquaint Fates

The Battle Pass is a feature that you’ll unlock at Adventure Rank 20, and it comes with a whole bunch of rewards. It’s a separate levelling system that requires you to complete several quests in exchange for different rewards. Compared to the other events in the game, it’s relatively easy to advance in this system by going about your normal gameplay.

There are two different types of Battle Passes available: Sojourner’s Battle Pass and the Gnostic Hymn Battle Pass.

The Sojourner’s Battle Pass is the free version of the two, giving you access to essential items such as Mora (main in-game currency) and Hero’s Wit (experience boost items). Additionally, you’ll be rewarded with an Acquaint Fate for every 10 levels unlocked.

On the other hand, the Gnostic Hymn Battle Pass is a paid version of the Battle Pass. For the price of SGD$14.98, you’ll get more premium rewards and materials that are necessary to level up your characters’ skills. At Battle Pass Level 30, you get access to a Bounty. This allows you to pick a 4-star weapon of your choice. For this version of the battle pass, you’ll be rewarded with Intertwined Fates for every 10 levels unlocked.

There is also a variant of the Gnostic Hymn Battle Pass called the Gnostic Chorus, which is priced at SGD$29.98. This pass allows you to start from Battle Pass Level 10 immediately. For those who already own the Battle Pass, you get to gain an additional 10 levels from your current level.

In summary, Battle Pass grants you a huge amount of Primogems. It also rewards you with Acquaint and Intertwined Fates, which allows you to make Wishes without spending your scarce pool of Primogems.

2. Blessings of the Welkin Moon

“Blessings of the Welkin Moon” is a monthly subscription that gifts you 300 Genesis Crystals up front, and 90 Primogems/day for the next 30 days. Genesis Crystals can be immediately exchanged to Primogems on a 1:1 ratio, which works out brilliantly!

We did some quick math – for just SGD$6.98, you’ll be getting up to 300 Genesis Crystals and 2,700 Primogems over a 30-day period! You will have to log in every day to claim your subscribed Primogems, or else they will be forfeited.

3. Daily Commissions

Daily commissions are simple tasks that can be completed as you go about your regular gameplay. When you complete all 4 daily commissions, you receive an instant sum of Primogems. Easy peasy.

4. Exploration

While exploring the Genshin world, you’ll come across waypoints and treasure chests. Waypoints are Genshin Impact’s teleportation points, which allow you to travel to specific parts of the map immediately. Unlocking waypoints and opening treasure chests give you Primogems.

You might also come across several side quests, which will also grant you these precious commodities. Don’t miss out on completing them!

5. Spiral Abyss

Spiral Abyss is a dungeon-style feature of the game, where you attempt to clear as many floors of monsters as you possibly can in one run. At every floor, you also get special character buffs to help you along the way.

The Spiral Abyss is divided into 12 floors, with each floor containing 3 chambers. Each chamber has 3 challenges of increasing difficulty. For each challenge completed, you’ll be rewarded with an Abyssal Star and other premium rewards. Entering the next floor requires you to have earned at least 6 Abyssal Stars from your previous floor.

6. Main Story Quests

Completing main story quests not only gives you a huge amount of experience points and other amazing items, but it often awards you with a huge pile of Primogems. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!

7. Buying Genesis Crystals

You could purchase bundles of Genesis Crystals from the shop, ranging from 60 Genesis Crystals (S$1.48) to 6,480 Genesis Crystals (S$148.97).

First-time buyers also get twice the bonus for any Genesis Crystals package bought.

Pro tip: Always make 10 wishes at the same time for a higher chance of getting 4-5 star items.

Masterless Starglitter & Masterless Stardust

When making wishes, you often get duplicate items or characters. Thankfully, the game has a way of rewarding you despite giving you a copy of what you already have. When you find yourself in that situation, you will get both Masterless Starglitter and the Masterless Stardust.

They can be used to purchase more Acquaint or Intertwined Fate in the shop.
