How to Convert a Personal Facebook Profile to a Business Page

As you would know personal Facebook profiles are meant for individual people and Facebook provides pages for businesses and organizations. Pages offer more robust features for organizations and are more suitable to meet your business needs.

I still see recruiting agencies and companies using a personal Facebook profile to promote their business. And if you are one among them you need to do something about it, or you run a risk of losing your profile as stated clearly by Facebook –

Maintaining a personal account for anything other than an individual person is a violation of Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. If you don’t convert your noncompliant account to a Page, you risk permanently losing access to the account and all of its content.

In this post i will take you through the steps you need to perform to convert your personal Facebook profile to a page, So lets get started –

Step 1 – Back up your profile data

When you convert your profile to a business page only your profile photo and friends(converted to likes) will be moved to your new page, No other data is moved to your page. So if you need any information on your new page from your existing account, you should first download your profile data which include posts, photos, bios and anything associated with the account. Full list here.

You can download your information from the Account Settings page.

Step 2 – Change your profile name & address to reflect your business page

The business page which will be created after migration will have the same name as your profile name. Also if you have more than 200 friends, you will not be able to change the name of your page after the conversion. Make sure your profile name reflects your business page name before going to the next step.

If you already have an active business page you probably would want to merge these pages. In this case, you need to provide same name and address as your active page or you might not be able to merge them.

Step 3 – Convert your personal profile to a business page

You might as well be managing other pages/groups from your existing profile. If you are the only admin for these pages, do not forget to assign new admins before you proceed with the migration. Remember you are about to delete your profile and migrate to a business page.

Your fan page is created with your friends converted to likes

Step 4 – Merge Duplicate Pages

If you have duplicate pages for your business you should merge them. In order to merge duplicate pages, they need to have the same name and address. Merging Pages combines all your likes and check-ins, but all other content from the Page with fewer likes, such as wall posts, photos and its username, will be permanently deleted.

Content on the Page with more likes will remain unchanged, except for the addition of likes and check-ins added from the Page with fewer likes. Facebook removes the Page with fewer likes and you will not be able to unmerge it.

Here is how to merge pages –

Don’t promote your business on Facebook with an individual profile, convert it to a business page using the steps mentioned above. If you know someone who will be helped by this information, do not forget to share this article with them!

How to Delete or Unpublish a Facebook Business Page

Onlypult blog author and editor. 10 year experienced professional copywriter, is interested in social media and e-mail marketing.

You may need to delete a business page on Facebook for different reasons: the business has closed, or the account of a store has been changed, to name but a few. The page can be deleted in a few clicks. After that, the changes are still reversible for 2 weeks, and then all your data will be deleted. It is often better to unpublish the account instead of deleting it. Unpublishing will hide the page from the visitors without removing the content. How to unpublish or delete a business account?

Delete Facebook Business Page: Desktop version

When the page is deleted, no option of saving the content and account activity is provided. This may be necessary when closing a store, changing groups, or due to other personal reasons.

To delete a page permanently, you need to:

When asked to delete, the website will show the name of the account, for example, “Mill Meadow Eco-Homes”; make sure you delete the right account. After confirmation, the website may ask you to enter the password and a Google captcha.

The account manager can delete the page in a few clicks. Please be aware that Facebook will not notify the final deletion on the website or by email 14 days later. Within 2 weeks, the account will be available for viewing only by the administration of the group, meaning that it will not appear in the user search requests.

With Onlypult, save time you spend on SMM tasks — posting to all social media, analytics, multiple links, micro landing pages, web monitoring. All in one place.

Delete Facebook Business Page: Facebook app | mobile version

You can also delete your account through the Facebook mobile app on smartphones using Mac or Android operating systems.

In case of wrong actions, the website also gives the users 2 weeks to restore their account. However, it will be permanently deleted once 14 days pass.

Deleting a page through a browser or a mobile application is equally easy for an account owner. Some problems may occur related to insufficient rights or the wrong password. The password can be recovered using a simple “Recover password” form when entering the application.

Things to remember when deleting a Facebook business page

The first important point to keep in mind when deleting the page is that only the group administrator can do this. Without administrator rights, Facebook will not allow you to delete the account.

Second, remember the consequences of deletion:

Even support administrators cannot recover the data. It will be removed forever.

Up-to-date information and instructions can be obtained in the “Help” tab, upon the “How to delete a page permanently” request. There are also short answers to common questions. The English version of the site responds better.

Before deleting an account, it is important to make sure that the account has no advertising debts. Facebook processes financial issues within two weeks. If the ad was dated less than 14 days before the current date, you need to wait and check possible debts.

How to unpublish a Facebook Business Page

Published pages are visible to all users. Unpublished pages are visible only to those who manage the page. Hiding is different from deleting a page. When you permanently delete it, you lose the content, likes, user activity, and community followers, which can reduce the degree of user confidence in the brand. All of this will be preserved when the community is hidden. Unpublishing will hide all community data from followers and recommendations, but the administrator will be able to edit the account. You will not lose data, and you will be able to publish the page at any time.

The website may require entering the password and passing a captcha. After that, the page will disappear from the search results and news feeds.

Now you know how to delete a business account through a browser and a mobile application. Besides, you are aware of the consequences and alternative solutions. We hope that this article can help you to delete your account if needed.

Now I have a business page on Facebook, how can I delete my personal profile?

Jenny opened a Facebook account and has progressed from a personal profile to a business page. Now she’d like to delete her personal profile …

I set up a Facebook account for my business but I did it as a personal page. I then realised my mistake, so I now have a shortcut link to a business page. How can I delete the personal page, because I only want to have one business page? Jenny

You can’t. As I understand it – which is always fuzzy, given the way Facebook keeps changing things – every page must be linked to a personal profile. However, the link isn’t visible to other users, unless you add it yourself.

In an online answer, Jade from the Facebook Help Team says: “We will never release your name to the general public stating that you are linked to the Page. Please know that the Personal Profile must represent a real person and can not have the name of a business.”

However, you can always set Facebook’s privacy control to restrict access to your personal page. Click the down arrow in the top right, select Settings and then Privacy. The section on “Who can see my stuff?” provides options from “Public” to “Friends” to “Only me”. You don’t need to delete your personal profile if only you can see it.

In general, I think Friends is the best setting for small and personal businesses, assuming you are active on Facebook. Your friends are most likely to Like your business page, most likely to comment, and most likely to recommend it to their friends. Large corporations have other ways to generate a following, but friends do it without you having to pay for it.

Facebook was launched in 2004 as a social networking website, initially for students at Harvard University. It was based on the idea of connecting real people in real time, and users’ identities were based on their university email address. This fundamental concept was maintained as Facebook expanded to other universities, schools and colleges, then to work networks, and eventually to everyone aged 13 and over.

The only concession is that – following protests from drag queens, among others – Facebook now allows people to use the names they use in real life, even if they are not their birth names. (Lil Miss Hot Mess was “beyond thrilled”.)

None the less, it is against Facebook’s terms of service to set up a personal account using a business name, or to use a personal account for business. If you do this, Facebook can and often will delete your account. Since Facebook knows who you are, it may not be easy to create a new one.

Facebook tried to solve this problem by introducing Facebook Pages for Businesses, which were announced on 6 November 2007. This process is by now pretty much automated at Create a Page, where Facebook offers set-ups for local businesses, companies and organisations, brands and products, artists and public figures, entertainment, and community causes.

Pages plusses

Pages have advantages over profiles. For example, you can have an unlimited number of business pages, with an unlimited number of followers. You can block people, block certain words, and turn on a Profanity Filter. You can access Page Insights with demographic information about visitors, and you can create advertisements to boost posts. You can also use Page Roles to allow other people to edit, moderate, or even contribute to your business page.

The main thing you lose is privacy controls.

Most individuals, and many small businesses, do not understand the difference between personal profiles and business pages, and some fall naturally into grey areas, such as pseudonymous users with stage names. Facebook therefore makes it easy to convert personal profiles into pages. For instructions, see: How do I convert my personal account to a Facebook Page?

Facebook says “the name on your personal account will become the page’s name.” This is clearly not what you want, but you can change it later. Also note that posts on your personal profile are not carried over to your new page. This will be a good thing for some users and a bad one for others. Some users may need to download the data from their personal profile – that option is under Settings – and re-upload posts to their new page.

Of course, even if you are not planning to create or convert a page, it’s always a good idea to back up your data.

Promoting your page

Facebook has some short tutorials on how to Promote Your Business From Your Facebook Page, plus Blueprint eLearning, which offers a number of short courses. (There’s even one for How Journalists Can Best Utilize Facebook and Instagram.) These courses include useful information about features such as Notes, 360-degree images and broadcasting live video. You will not be surprised when courses encourage you to spend money on Facebook promotions, but there’s enough information to make them worth a look.

Facebook Business Manager

One way to separate your personal profile and your business pages it to use Facebook’s Business Manager, which covers both Facebook and Instagram accounts, and Facebook apps. It’s also a key program in Facebook’s mission to sell you advertising.

Business Manager enables multiple people to manage multiple accounts, under your control. This is obviously essential in businesses where more than one person updates pages, and in large businesses with external contributors such as graphic artists, photographers and advertising agencies. It may be overkill for a small business, but it’s worth considering.

Note that once a page has been added to Business Manager, that page can only be accessed and managed from Business Manager.

Facebook rules

Although people generally ignore the “small print” – if they even know it exists – it’s a good idea to read the Facebook Pages Terms page, which specifies what you can and cannot do. There are even more guidelines for developers who use Facebook as a platform.

Always bear in mind that, like it or not, there is no viable alternative to Facebook, unless you live in Russia (VKontakte) or China (Renren). Facebook writes the laws, operates the police force, and is also the judge and executioner.

Of course, the same things are true of many other web properties including Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Reddit. They are all self-regulating. The difference is that most sites allow or even encourage pseudonymous or anonymous users – get thrown off Twitter and you can be back in seconds – whereas Facebook does what it can to tie your account to your personal identity. And it has a huge amount of information about you, including who your friends are.

It’s not obligatory to have a Facebook account, and plenty of people survive without one. But Facebook now has more than 2 billion monthly active users, and losing access to that market could be a blow to many of those who operate business pages.

Still managing your Facebook Pages and ad accounts for your brand through your personal account? Sharing logins is opening the door to security and privacy concerns, and manually adding and assigning roles to teammates on a Facebook Page can be tedious.

This makes it crucial for agencies and businesses alike to use the Facebook Business Manager so they can securely manage their Facebook Pages and ad accounts in one place.

If you haven’t started using the Facebook Business Manager because it seems confusing or intimidating, you’re in luck. This post gives you a detailed guide on how to use the Facebook Business Manager and how it can benefit your business. Let’s dive in.

What is Facebook Business Manager?

As the name suggests, the Facebook Business Manager is a tool that allows you to manage multiple Facebook Pages, business assets and ad accounts, as well as Instagram accounts and product catalogs, in one place.

It also allows you to grant full or partial access to team members based on their role. This means you can seamlessly delegate tasks between multiple employees securely.

For agencies, this means you can link multiple client Facebook Pages to your Facebook Business Manager account without linking your or your employees’ personal Facebook accounts as administrators.

For businesses, it also means allowing employees to manage your Facebook Page without essentially having over ownership of your Page or assets.

6 benefits of Facebook Business Manager

Now that you know what Facebook Business Manager is, you have some idea of why you should use it. But let’s highlight the tool’s top benefits:

Who should create a Facebook Business Manager account?

If you’re running a small home business and managing your own social accounts, you don’t necessarily need a Facebook Business Manager account. But it’s a must if:

Get started with Facebook Business Manager

From what we’ve established so far, you have a clear idea of all the reasons why your business or agency should start using the Facebook Business Manager. Now let’s get to the most important part–how to use Facebook Business Manager.

1. Set up your Business Manager account

At this point, we’re assuming you already set up a Facebook business Page. If you haven’t, do that first. Otherwise, you need to create a Business Manager account.

For this, go to the Facebook Business Manager page and click on “Create Account.”

Then fill out the form with basic information such as your business name, your name and your business email address. Then click on “Next.”

After this, you’ll need to enter more information about your business such as physical address, phone number and website. Once complete, click “Submit.”

At this point you should receive a confirmation email. Click “Confirm Now” in that email, and that’s it; you now have a Facebook Business Manager account.

2. Link your Facebook Page(s)

Next, you link your Business Manager account with all the Facebook and Instagram Pages you’re managing. On your dashboard, you have the option to either “Add Page” or “Create Page.”

To link an existing Page, click on “Add Page” and enter the Page name or URL. If you’re an admin of the Page, Facebook will automatically approve the link request.

For agencies that don’t own their clients’ business assets, linking a Page requires sending a request to your clients. In the Business Settings, find “Pages” under “Accounts,” and click on the “Add.” Then select “Request Access to a Page” and choose the Page you need access to.

Once you’ve linked the Pages you’re managing, you can keep track of all your posts and their respective performance metrics in one place. This includes metrics like Facebook reach and clicks/action so you know how well your efforts are paying off.

3. Link your ad account

To run ads using Facebook Business Manager, you’ll also need to link the ad account you’re managing. Like with Pages, you can automatically link an ad account that you own and are an admin of. Click on “Add Ad Account” to link your existing ad account and then enter your account ID. If you don’t have one yet, you also have the option to create a new ad account.

Similar to requesting access to a Page, agencies would request access to a Facebook Ad account the same way. Under “Ad Accounts,” Click “Add” and “Request access to an ad account.” Enter the ID of the client’s ad account you need access to.

4. Add users to your Business Manager account

For businesses and agencies alike, one of the most crucial steps is to learn how to add people to your Business Manager account. In your Business Settings, under “People,” click “Add.”

Enter the email addresses of the people you want to share access with. You’ll also have the option to assign them a business role–whether you want to give them admin access or limit them to employee access.

Фото How to manage business facebook page from personal account

When you give someone employee access, you get to choose which accounts and tools they have access to. So it’s perfect for agencies that have to delegate accounts, tasks and projects to different team members. That way, they can better manage their client accounts without putting their security at risk.

At Sprout, we often come across users who face problems with the Instagram “Page Owner” accounts. This is usually because these users don’t have admin access on the Facebook Business Manager account that owns the Page even though they have employee access. Note that although one Business Manager account retains ownership of the Page, multiple accounts can have access.

If you work with a vendor or agency, you’ll need to add them as a “Partner.” In your Business Settings, go to “Partners” and add a partner to share your business assets with.

This will give them access to the account assets, although you still have ownership. So they can change the settings, add/remove people, add/remove accounts, decide who has access and to what level and so on. Similarly for agencies and vendors, they’ll need to request access from your clients from the same dashboard.

Tips to make the most of Facebook Business Manager

Once you’ve completed setup, you can use the Facebook Business Manager to keep track of all your Pages and ads or, in the case of agencies, your clients’ Pages and ads. Besides these basic tasks, here’s how you can make the most of Facebook Business Manager:

1. Boost your account security

Facebook Business Manager lets you add an extra layer of protection for your business assets, which is one of the top advantages. You have the option to set up two-factor authentication for your account in your Business Settings under “Security Center.”

2. Set up Facebook Pixels

To effectively collect information that’ll feed your Facebook marketing strategy and ad campaigns, make sure you set up Facebook Pixels right away. In your Business Settings, go to “Data Sources” and find “Pixels.”

You only need to name your Pixel here, but you also have the option to add your website URL to discover easy setup options. Select “Set up Pixel now” and follow the installation instructions in our Facebook ad targeting guide.

3. Set up Locations using Business Manager

If your business has multiple locations, setting up Locations will allow customers to find the most relevant store Pages through search engines. To do this, click on the “Business Manager” button at the top of the page and select “Shop locations” under “Assets.” The “Assets” section will also give you the option to add catalogs, audiences and branded media if you need to add those later.

How to I Separate My Facebook Profile From My Business Page

Related

When you open a Facebook website page for your business, you are setting the business apart from your personal Facebook profile. While many business owners will integrate both, there are reasons to keep business and personal posts separate. You can create a separate business page that is not your personal profile page, but you do need to open a business page from a personal profile. However, you can keep people from seeing that you are the administrator of the business profile.

Open a Facebook Website

Open Facebook and log in to your personal profile. In the far right corner of the top deck banner, there is a drop-down menu marked by a triangle pointing downward. Click that and look for the option Create Page. Follow the guide to establish a business page. Facebook’s templates ask you to categorize your business. Follow the prompts. Enter as much information as possible for your business including name, address and phone number along with digital contact information such as websites and email addresses. You will also be asked for a username, which becomes a way for people to search for your business. For example, a seafood restaurant might use @bestseafoodflorida but most people will use the business name if it is available. The prompts will let you know if your selection is already taken.

Once you have entered the basic business profile information, click the blue button Get Started. Your page will populate on the screen. It will be a basic page without any pictures, information or posts. Select the camera icon in the banner to upload a banner photo such as a logo or picture of the front of your store. Save and click the camera icon in the profile picture within the banner. Place an icon, logo or other notable graphics here. Try to keep the pictures different for contrast. Complete the About Us section to tell people about you. You can add a Contact Us button or Get A Quote button to the page at the top menu. These make it easy for people to reach you. Get ready to post and engage.

Complete Separation From Profile

Create a Business Manager account on Facebook to keep all posting from your business page administration to your business page. Not separating the profiles can lead to confusion about whether you are publishing a post as you personally or as the business. The Business Manager rectifies this. Business Manager is a central space to manage one or more business profiles in Facebook. This is a free tool in the Facebook platform that doesn’t just allow you separation but allows team members, partners or vendors to become administrators, run ads and maintain analytics on the page’s success.

Visit business.facebook.com and select Set Up Your Account. Follow the prompts asking for the business name and business email. The page redirects so you can enter the business profile information. You can manage the page, ad accounts and people on your team from this page.

Considerations Regarding Separation

While many business owners actively market from their personal page there are various reasons to keep the connection private. Some industries such as financial services are highly regulated and may have compliance issues requiring business pages to be unassociated with personal profiles. There are other instances where a business owner may not want to mix family events with adult-types of businesses. Whatever the reason, every business owner should consider the benefits and disadvantages to separating business and personal profiles.

Warning

Don’t be tempted to create a fake personal profile to establish a new business page in efforts to keep them separate. Facebook has taken strong adverse action against fake profiles due to recent political events.
