Sebastian is getting ready to propose in front of the cameras at the premiere of a Mexican rom-com that was a massive hit ten years ago; Sebastian met Lucia while shooting it, and they became Mexico’s most loved couple for an entire generation.
Devastated by the breakup and his public humiliation, Sebastian joins a shady support group called the Temple of Smiles.
Tired of Sebastian pining for Lucia and eager for him to start dating, Sebastian’s friends organize a party to welcome him back into the world of singles.
Sebastián and Fish try to find Julieta, the girl with the unicorn pin; Lucía prepares to shoot her first scene with Sebastián and meets up with Fabiana to blow off some steam.
Adán puts Sebastian through brutal trials to assess his level of commitment; Fish is also seeking a commitment with a cam girl he falls in love with and is trying to save.
Fabiana tells the gang that some hippie guy she occasionally hooks up with, won’t leave her apartment; the crew bumps into Tony who surprisingly now looks like a Calvin Klein model and is dating a supermodel.
Julieta plays the ukulele and sings a song she wrote for Sebastian and then proposes to have breakfast with the gang so that she can get to meet them; at the brunch, they all end up mesmerized by Julieta and let her into their circle.

Amazon Prime’s ‘How to Survive Being Single’ Is an Unfiltered Look at Online Dating in a Modern World
How do you survive being single? According to Amazon Prime’s first global release of a Spanish-language scripted comedy series, Cómo Sobrevivir Soltero (How to Survive Being Single), all you need is a dating app and a good group of friends.
Much like the streaming service, this is my first venture into a Spanish comedy (my portfolio extends to a few episodes of Netflix’s Elite that I started while in quarantine and the anxiety-inducing Money Heist (La Casa de Papel), so I didn’t know what to expect. Don’t worry, there are subtitles!
Based on the first four episodes, the series has all the makings of a comedy and delivers on its promise of being a show that highlights how much “the dating world has changed in modern Mexico.”
The series is aimed at the millennial crowd with a plethora of references about the hook-up culture, Tinder, and a character developed dating + ride-sharing app called “Love Ride” (how is that not a thing yet?), but most importantly, it centers around the framework of friendship and how necessary a good support group is following a breakup with the person you thought was “the one.”
The 13-episode series centers on Sebastián (nickname Seba). Sebastián Zurita plays his fictional self and draws inspiration from his real-life dating experiences for a series that’s part fiction and part autobiographical. It’s unclear which parts happened in real life, but in the short timeframe, Sebastián’s journey takes many unexpected turns and seems to be wildly exaggerated for the TV landscape.
At first glance, Sebastián has it made. He’s on his way to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the cult classic film “Dumped” with longtime girlfriend and co-star, Lucia (Pamela Almanza). It’s a love-story ripped straight from the headlines.
When we meet couples so early into a series, things can go one of two ways — their relationship flourishes and takes us on a romantic journey or they break up usually because someone cheated. Considering the series is titled “How to Survive Being Single,” I’ll let you decide which avenue we’re going down.
Sebastián has no idea that the title of the film — dumped — is about to become his reality until his proposal is botched in front of the public when a reporter shows him a video of his cheating girlfriend while he’s down on one knee. Ouch.

Since the breakup happens in the pilot episode, we don’t get to see much of Sebastián’s relationship with Lucia prior to the movie premiere, and all we can really rely on are pieces of information given to us throughout the episodes mainly that they stayed together out of comfort and familiarity.
The series hopes that the audience will connect with the material and with Seba’s experiences because of our own personal long-term relationships and breakups.
And thus, it intentionally makes Lucia a side-character that Sebastián doesn’t give much energy to because she’s out of the picture. After the breakup, he’s hurt, but he’s not interested in talking things through, finding out what went wrong, or getting back together.
He’s over it, and he’s Mr. Moving On. And for the audience, it’s easier to side with and focus on Seba’s journey if we don’t have any connection to Lucia.
Being out of the game for 10-years means Seba, a self-described romantic, is out of his depth as he plunges into the dating world. He gets a lot of (bad and unwanted) dating advice from his friends, which includes getting over Lucia by getting under someone one.
Not only is Seba broken from being cheated on, but he’s also feeling sorry for himself and his diminishing career (he’s been typecast in a role that hasn’t allowed him much other success, which was a huge ding to his ego while dating Lucia).
As Seba deals with his sorrow and grief, his adventure takes some pretty odd turns, and maybe they’re simply odd and unexpected to me because again, I have no idea what to expect from a Spanish-language comedy.
One of those weird storylines is joining a cult leader Christian Chavez, a well-known Mexican singer, songwriter, and actor. Zuritas has been open about giving newcomers and celebrity guests an equal seat at the table, so you can expect plenty of cameo appearances even if the storylines are slightly unconventional.
Chavez runs the cult that aims to make people happy by any means possible, and though it’s a strange storyline, it’s also reflective of how cult’s thrive on vulnerable and impressionable people. All things aside, it was nice to see Sebastián normalize the idea of seeking help, even from this kind of “therapy group,” which allowed him to understand the importance of feeling whatever you need to feel in the moment. Sometimes, faking it till you make it just doesn’t work. The grief lets you know you’re alive.
He then gives into using technology to find love, but navigating the new dating-world proves tricky when his date is a complete nightmare. It’s Seba’s first date post-breakup and he tries desperately to make it work, but here’s the lesson: not every date is going to be perfect, and you won’t vibe with every person you meet. That’s okay. Once Seba learns that, he’s able to open up himself to new opportunities including the beautiful biker woman named Julieta.
It’s a real-life “missed connection,” and instead of leaving it up to fate and/or coincidence, he prints posters to find her because that’s how all great love stories start. Seba is admittedly a bit naive, but the point is, he’s relying on dated forms of connecting with someone when the world is trying so hard to usher him into this “new wave” of dating through an app.
The effort that goes into trying to locate Julieta shows that Seba is exactly the kind of guy you’re looking for when you go on a dating app. They do exist.
Again, the search for Julieta is an unexpected twist, but the series proves that there is no right or wrong formula here — anything goes in Seba’s world, and the sooner the audience accepts that, the more they will enjoy the series.
As previously mentioned, Seba has a group of friends that stand by his side no matter, and it would be unfair to only focus on him when they’re such a principal part of the series and his life.
In a sea of single folks looking for love or the occasional hook-up, Daniel (Roberto Flores) and Mafer (Lucía Gómez-Robledo) are the show’s only (and strongest) couple, proving that when you find the one, you don’t need anything else.
Gonzalo (Octavio Hinojosa)is thirsting over Fabiana (Tato Alexander), the spunkiest of the crew, and it’s evident that as she plays hard to get, eventually, she’ll give into Gonzalo’s efforts.
And then there’s Fish (Fabrizio Santini), the recently dumped (off-screen) who seems to understand the single world and his place in it way better than Seba.
Through the initial four 30-minute episodes, Seba proves that while life may not always go your way, it always happens for the right reasons. And being single is better than being with someone who lies and betrays you.
The comedy doesn’t seem to be altered to entice an American audience but seeing the successes of other Spanish-language shows, it shouldn’t matter.
Love is a universal language… but so are getting your heartbroken and swiping right.

Dynasty Review – Adam Gets Arrested, Liam Plagiarizes, and Alexis Gets Revenge (5×19)
Dynasty is having fun with its final few episodes!
One of my favorite episodes of One Tree Hill was the Boy Toy auction, and while times have changed since 2003, Dynasty’s take on a “bachelor auction” was just as juicy, even if Fallon struggled to find some eligible bachelors for the gig.
Auctioning off Liam and Culhane wasn’t a bad idea—it’s just a date, after all—but they aren’t exactly single and ready to mingle.
However, Fallon will never disappoint as she put together pretty neat packages that each winner would win alongside the bachelor. Personally, I’d put all my money on the ride in the Aston Martin and a wine country date, not to mention, Culhane definitely had the best moves out of the trio.
I’m shocked the characters agreed to a little choreographed dance number to open up the auction, but that shows how much power Fallon wields over these men. They’d do anything for her.
The whole reason behind the auction was charity as Fallon needed to triple donations for Heroic Hooves so that she could get rid of Mandy once and for all and establish a newer process for how things are done.
Heroic Hooves was truly struggling financially, and it’s because Mandy was an old guard who wasn’t open up to new ideas or suggestions to raise funds. The whole charity needed an overhaul, and Fallon was perfect for the job. She isn’t stuffy; she knows how to make people want a life of luxury, she knows how to sell the dream, and she knows how to work the system.
Not only that, but she’s also passionate about horses, so this is one gig that’s near and dear to her heart.
Liam was going through it as he considered whether or not to use his mentor’s book and pass it off as his own. The very fact that he had to run it by Sammy using the Tuna Melt Metaphor (and then tried to convince Sammy to steal a competitor’s recipe so that he would feel better about his decision) was proof that he could never live with the lie.
But when Fallon pushed and told him she read the first few chapters and thought it was genius, Liam did the unthinkable.
I simply wish he took his mentor’s idea but gave it his own spin and rewrote the whole thing. That way, he’d only be stealing an idea and that’s slightly better to stomach.
Liam is creative, so even if he has writer’s block, he just needs an idea to get started. He doesn’t actually have to take the whole thing.
However, this isn’t the first morally immoral thing he did as he also wrote his mentor’s nephew’s paper, so one might say this is just who Liam has become now — a fraud faking his way through success.
Sammy knows it’s going to blow back on him, and I think all of us know it too. Liam might actually be quite aware of it as well, but he’s willing to risk his reputation.
Speaking of reputations,…Alexis’ was almost destroyed because of Adam’s injectables that have been causing terrible side effects for patients.
When Alexis informed him of the FDA’s involvement, Adam swore that he wasn’t doing anything illegal, which we know isn’t true as he’s using the illegal Bokocho extract in his formula. He immediately ran to daddy for help, and honestly, I’m proud of Blake for shading his son about putting a product on the market that’s “killing” people. For once, Blake seemed to have a moral compass, though he still reached out to his FDA contact to have the samples switched.
In a way, it saved Alexis’ company in the public eye, but thankfully, she’s also being smart about how she conducts her business. And she has Dax to thank for it. While she blindly and wholeheartedly trusted Adam, Dax wasn’t convinced. And for good reason.
Adam framed Alexis for murder — he always protects his own skin, so she can’t blindly believe him and trust him. If Blake hadn’t helped out, Adam would undoubtedly turn on her and her company would take the hit.
It was infuriating to see Alexis take Adam’s side and fight with Dax when he was making all the sense in the world. He surely wanted to be wrong, but he needed to be sure. After everything Adam has pulled, his deception shouldn’t come as a surprise anymore.
So, I was glad to see that Alexis was done protecting her son. The moment she tested her own samples and realized he was lying, she called the DEA and they walked Adam out in handcuffs. And this doesn’t seem like a situation that Blake can get him out of. Poor Adam is on his own, but he also had it coming for all the pain Alexis has endured because of him!
Even Dom had an interesting storyline. Her meteoric rise to fame via FSN and the Nordic Star contest put a target on her back as creepy and threatening fan mail began pouring in. The network insisted she get a bodyguard, and honestly, I can’t figure out why she was mad about the hella sexy man that they sent. Dom, are you seeing this?
I know she likes her independence, but damn, he was fine! And he was there solely to protect her!
Of course, she didn’t take the threat seriously and sent him away by faking a sickness before sneaking out to Fallon’s charity. He wasn’t fooled, but when she eventually snapped at him again, he left her alone. Her attitude changed when she came home and realized someone was there rummaging through her things. The whole thing could’ve ended really badly. It’s also quite surprising that none of these millionaires have any security! They have a lot of haters in the game.
Anyway, Dom’s bodyguard was understanding… and when they had a moment, I think she truly realized that this arrangement might not be so bad after all. Plus, it’ll be nice to have around whenever the person who broke into her house reappears again.
While it does seem like the final few episodes are running out of substance, I appreciate the show for not taking itself too seriously!

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin
PLL Original Sin Review – This Used to be a Fun Town
If there’s anything I’ve learned from teen dramas/slashers is that a small town carnival is never a good thing.
That couldn’t be more true on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin Season 1 Episode 7 as the annual carnival proved to be a place of trauma, not to mention the perfect breeding ground for “A” to unleash his havoc on the little liars.
The episode kicked off with yet another PLL mom getting a package from “A” to underscore that “he knows what she did in 1999.” And Elodie’s connection to Angela is quite surprising as we see her deem the hall of mirrors a safe place for her and Angela to lock lips. That is until Davie walks in on them and Elodie pushes Angela away before claiming she “attacked her.” While I can understand that Elodie wasn’t ready to come out, it’s yet another troubling indication of how the moms mistreated Angela and essentially bullied her. As we peel back the layers of the past to see how it’s influencing the present, there’s no mom that I actually feel sorry for; they all deserve to be reminded of the horrors they made this poor girl endure.
In the present day, Elodie’s storyline is focused more on another lie she’s keeping from her daughter, Mouse, about a man who tried to kidnap her at the carnival. Mouse has alluded to her mom’s being super strict before, but now we know where Elodie’s fears stem from. Of course, there’s much more than meets the eye here, and Mouse is determined to get to the bottom of it at all costs, especially when she gets a note from “A” that her mom is not being completely honest about the “stranger” that tried to abduct her.
Mouse utilizes a burner phone to send her mom a menacing text — she’s clearly taking tips and tricks from “A” at this point — and finally gets the clarity she’s always wanted: her mother was a surrogate for a couple who wanted and a baby and kept the child. The man from the carnival who wanted to “take her” was her father. Now, I have a lot of follow-up questions here that didn’t get answered; how was she able to keep Mouse? Where did the couple go? Is the man still around? Is he the one seeking vengeance? Does this mean Mouse has siblings? There are so many possibilities here, it’s insane. It could flip the whole “who is ‘A’” mystery upside down!
Mouse also has a subplot with Steve, who is obsessive and continues to stalk her. It gets even weirder when he reveals that he knows her mother because they go to the same support group where she’s opened up about Mouse’s “abduction.” The whole thing is next-level creepy, and sort of made me feel like Steve might actually be “A.” Did anyone pick up on the fact that they seem to have the same build/walk? Maybe he was Angela’s brother that simply disappeared, and his obsession with Mouse is much larger than grieving a missing daughter.
Faran’s mother is discharged from the hospital after her crash, and yet she shows zero remorse for everything she’s forced Faran to endure. She scarred her literally and figuratively, and she continues to gaslight her and even blames her “diva stunt” for the accident. It’s clear that Corey has never taken responsibility for her actions. When Faran finally opens up to Henry about the pain from her scoliosis surgery, he informs Madame Giry, who sets Faran up to see a professional. This is where her dancing dreams come to a bit of a halt. Not only does she find out that the surgery wasn’t necessary when she was a child, but now she must undergo months of therapy while she takes a break from dancing. Though it’s not ideal, it does seem like a weight has been lifted off of Faran’s shoulders as she’s finally able to stop being so perfect and pursue something other than dance.
Noa starts training again, but when she realizes she’s not keeping up with the other girls, she sees a specialist who gives her an inhaler. She’s hesitant about using it to give herself a little “boost” as it’s the equivalent of doping, but Shawn doesn’t see a problem with it, which is concerning considering how crude he was about Noa’s mother being an addict. If she does use the inhaler, you bet “A” is going to use it against her.
Tabby attempts to work through her sexual assault by going back to where it happened. The scene has an unnecessary jumpscare with “A” that doesn’t really fit in with what the writers are trying to accomplish, but I guess it may also be a hint that “A” and the person responsible for the assault could be the same person. There are a handful of moments where Tabby tries to talk to an adult about her trauma, including when she goes to see the school nurse, when she attempts to tell her mom about the movie she’s making, and when she goes to see the female sheriff at the precinct, but each time, she finds herself struggling to get the words out. It’s a process that can only happen when she’s ready.
If it wasn’t for Sheriff Beasley calling her for questioning, it’s possible she would’ve been able to ask for help, but once again, he proves that he’s the absolute worst.
And honestly, he’s on my top list of suspects. As Tabby and Imogen ponder if they were assaulted by the same man, I’m wondering if it’s possible that it was the same person who assaulted Angela right before her death, too. After all, Beasley was her fellow classmate. He has animalistic and manipulative tendencies, we see him engage in sexual acts with minors, and he has absolutely no respect for his wife and any other female for that matter.
It would be a disgusting twist, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility. A man with power with a dark secret. Even Tabby suggests that “men like him” protect other misogynistic men like half of the football team at Millwood.
The other option is that its Chip, which kind of breaks my heart because I’m actually falling for his good guy act. It could be a total red herring as he gets closer to Imogen in what may be a plan to stay close to his victims as he feels like he’s losing his grip on Tabby. The scene where Tabby rips into Wes and Chip for picking two double features with incredibly graphic rape scenes might also be a hint that Chip has normalized this behavior to the point of not even realizing it’s problematic.
It’s possible Chip was just trying to be supportive when he went with Imogen to the doctor’s appointment, and if that’s the case, I’m sorry I misjudged you, dude. But in the rare event that he isn’t and he said he “supports her” because he’s actually the father, well, at least we won’t be entirely blindsided.
I even found myself shipping him and Imogen; she deserves something nice and innocent, so I truly hope I’m wrong about him.
The mystery of the assaulter, however, is separate from the mystery of “A’s” identity as they likely aren’t the same person.
Though, admittedly, I am a bit confused on A’s motive as it’s getting murky.
He seems to want to push the liars towards honesty, eliminate secrets, and punish the bullies, but then he simultaneously torments them with texts of Tyler’s corpse and chases them through carnivals without any desire to attack or hurt them. It doesn’t make any sense.
The only good thing about these liars is that they are being proactive. Unlike Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hannah, they are looking at everyone as a potential suspect, they are seeking answers, and they are heading right into the line of fire.
