The game will start in the exact same way as in the Pacifist route. If you need any assistance with puzzles or gameplay, go to the Ruins section of my True Pacifist guide, and if you need help with fighting monsters, you can also use my Monsters guide for advise. Make sure you kill every monster in The Ruins before you engage Toriel, including all of those listed in the monsters guide
You must kill monsters until you get the «But nobody came» message. There are no significant differences between the Pacifist Ruins and Genocide ones, so just proceed as normal. You do not have to kill the Dummy or the first Froggit you meet with Toriel. Napstablook doesn’t have to be killed, as he will disappear if you reach your kill limit before getting to him. You will notice that some NPCs are missing, such as some of the Froggits, because, of course, you killed them or they ran away.Where are the knives.
You need 20 kills to clear the Ruins. Obtain all of them BEFORE you fight Toriel. You might have to walk around a lot to make encounters occur once you kill a good number of monsters. To try and make encounters happen, walk a little ways, then click out of the game so Frisk runs in place for you.
Toriel killed. If you examine the cabinets in Toriel’s kitchen, you will see «Where are the knives.» When you’re ready, fight Toriel. You’ll kill her in one hit. If you go back into Toriel’s home after you kill her, the fire will be gone, the flowers wilted, and, if you check her oven, it says «No one will use this anymore. » If you sleep in your bed, you will get a message as if you’ve got a Game Over, and then the music will be incredibly creepy in her house. If you look in the mirror, it says «It’s me, [your name].»
When you leave the Ruins, Flowey will say that you’re not actually human. He has a plan to destroy all of the monsters, destroy all the memories once and for all. Head on into Snowdin for more victims.
When you meet Sans in Snowdin, he notices that you don’t bother to laugh at his prank on you. You will not go behind the lamp when Sans tells you to. When you try to leave the area, Sans comments that you’re not human.Sans says you’re just pretending to be human.
In Snowdin, you will start to have a kill count that you can see in your Stat menu. Save points will tell you how many kills you need to purge an area of monsters. You need 16 to clear Snowdin. Do not engage Papyrus in the boss battle before you see the «But nobody came» message. You do NOT need to kill Jerry. Just flee from him or ditch him since it’s not worth the effort.
Dialogue will be different than the Pacifist route when you encounter Papyrus and Sans throughout this area. At the electric maze puzzle, you will walk right over the puzzle before Papyrus gets a chance to explain it. You won’t have to complete some of the puzzles, such as the X and O puzzles. Papyrus will not bother to do the colored tile puzzle for you. When you talk to Sans after the long bridge, he warns you that you’re going to have a bad time.
You will simply take snow from the snowman instead of him giving you the piece. Feel free to just use the Snowman Piece as an item, since it has no use in this ending. You can keep taking pieces from him until he becomes just a pile of snow.
Again, NPCs will be missing. There is no Nice Cream guy. Murderers don’t get ice cream.
Make sure to kill all the dog monsters you run into, including Doggo, Dogi, and Greater Dog. Note that if you kill Dogamy first, the other becomes enraged and their attacks become quite fast. If you kill Dogaressa first, Dogamy only attacks with one dog that barks in despair. You’ll also encounter a new enemy called Chilldrake after you kill Snowdrake. To find enemies, I suggest checking around the area where you fight Dogi. Jerry battles will pop up here a lot with other monsters, but you can just ditch Jerry. Gryftots also give good EXP, usually found near the mystery door.
If you visit Snowdin before you kill all the monsters, people will still be there and you can sleep in the inn. After you kill your quota, the town is empty except for Monster Kid. I suggest killing everyone first before buying something, as you can just steal the items from the shop after everyone evacuates. You can also steal over 700g from the shop! The save text will change to «that comedian. » if you arrive before killing everyone.
When ready, head beyond Snowdin to face Papyrus. Again, you will move on your own, as if you’re no longer in control of your character. Papyrus will try to convince you against your killing ways, and he will spare you immediately at the start of the fight. If you spare him, you abort the Genocide run. Again, you will kill him in one hit. Your intent to kill is too strong for these monsters. Papyrus insists he believes in you as he parishes. Proceed into Waterfall.
Only Monster Kid will be at Sans’s sentry. He’s out to see Undyne, as usual. Once again, you need to kill all the monsters in Waterfall. The quota is 18 this time.
There are no rocks coming down from the waterfall this time. Once again, Undyne will notice you when you walk into the grass, but she won’t attack. Monster Kid will follow you, as well, as the area is eerily silent. The petal bridges are already formed for you as the monsters probably used them to escape, but you can still get the quiche if you want. All of the Echo Flowers are silent.
Monster Kid complains that you climb roughly.Undyne will attack you by throwing spears, forcing you to dodge. See the Waterfall Pacifist section for more information. Again, Monster Kid saves you and runs ahead. You cannot use Sans’s telescope, and there is no Nice Cream guy. You can still get the Dog Residue like earlier by doing the piano puzzle.
Monster Kid will join you to walk along the puddles once again. When he let’s you climb on his back, you’ll do it roughly, making him complain a bit. You’ll have to avoid Undyne’s spears when she attacks, and then she will once more send you tumbling down into the dump. This time, you don’t have to fight the Mad Dummy because apparently it gets so mad it instead becomes happy. Kill it anyway.
Napstablook is not home and there are no snails to play with. Gerson is in his shop, though. Buy a Torn Notebook if you prefer its invincibility bonus. Talk to him for some cool information. Since he’s a shopkeeper, you can’t kill him. On the other hand, Temmie Village is abandoned. You can still sell your stuff here, but you cannot get Temmie Armor in a Genocide run. There is no offer to pay for Temmie’s college tuition.
Find a good place to grind near a save point so you can fulfill your kill quota. Monster Kid
Undyne will meet you again near the Echo Flower, and again Monster Kid interrupts. Continue to where Monster Kid meets you on the bridge. This time, your character will attack monster kid. When you check him, it says «Looks like free EXP.»
When you try to attack him, Undyne blocks the blow and is hit hard. Monster Kid flees, while Undyne looks like she’s going to die. But Undyne never gives up! Her body keeps itself barely together, quivering with determination. This battle is one of the biggest, toughest in the game. I hope you’re proud of what you’ve done.
Boss: Undyne the Undying
Check: 99ATK 99DEF Heroine reformed by her own DETERMINATION to save Earth.
This battle works the same as the Pacifist fight with Undyne, except it’s at least ten times harder. There is no holding back here. She will attack you hard and fast right away. Her attacks do insane damage and kill you in a hurry. You essentially need to avoid getting hit completely or you’ll lose double digit HP per blow.
Since this is Genocide, just attack her. She has a ton of HP! Unlike your opponents, she will not die easily, forcing you to block her attacks.
Her arrows will vary in speed a lot more than the original fight. You need to anticipate which direction you should move first, and then think ahead. She will launch them at you insanely fast, but don’t get intimidated. Just watch the pattern and judge her pace. She will use the yellow arrows as well that twist around to attack from the opposite side.
When she turns you red, she will attack by throwing spears at you that are actually not as hard to avoid as blocking her arrows. Take advantage of this time to go all out. She will also spin spears around you. Just move through the gaps quickly and stay ahead of the pace. She will start attacking very fast with the spears, forcing you to move constantly. Try not to get overwhelmed. You need to keep moving, watching where the spears form and getting out of the way. Stay in the middle of the box to avoid getting cornered.
There isn’t much advice to give here except to learn her pattern as you die multiple times. She eventually will stop turning you green, meaning you’ve endured all of her arrow attacks, and then is your chance to hammer away.
Once you defeat her, Undyne will melt away. She says that Alphys has already evacuated the monsters and Asgore has absorbed the souls. They’re prepared for you. It’s time now to advance to Hotland and see who else you can destroy.
Both Hotland and The Core are considered one area. This time, your quota is 40, a pretty large number, but you have more places to scour for kills.
The Welcome sign is not working when you enter the area. Notice that there are no Royal Guard but you can’t use the elevator yet. Walk through Hotland for items and kills. Inside Alphys’s lab, you’ll find Mettaton who informs you that Alphys has evacuated the monsters to a place you can’t reach. Grab some noodles from her fridge and continue onward. Make sure to get the Burnt Pan here in Hotland as a useful item for your slaughter.
All the lasers are already deactivated, and the large doors are already open. Again, you do not need to do any puzzles. Your intent to kill has forced the monsters to open everything and flee. Note that you cannot walk far from elevator’s R2 and L2, as the area is blocked off.
You’ll encounter the Royal Guards just through the first big door who you of course must kill. You will also fight Muffet, but you’ll kill her in one hit. In terms of grinding, try areas near the conveyor belts. If you walk against a belt going the other way, then click out of the game, you can walk in place and force encounters.
At MTT Resort, take some items from Catty and Bratty’s shop, like the gun and cowboy hat. Burgerpants is still there, and he gives you some use for the tons of gold you’ll have.
In the Core, the elevator works, so you can skip the whole thing, but do not fight Mettaton before you get 40 kills. You can kill enemies along the bridge where the switch to open The End is.
Mettaton waits for you inside the usual battle room. He will try to stop you from destroying humanity, then take on his true form as a human destroying robot.
Check: 90 ATK 90 DEF Dr. Alphys’s greatest invention.
Once again, you will kill Mettaton in one hit. He will explode and remove the final barrier between you and the capital.
New Home is as quiet as always. There is no sign of anyone here, though the elevator is in use somehow. You once again need to get the keys in Asgore’s home and head toward the throne room.
You’ll notice that a lot of the stuff you examine in Asgore’s house reads in red text. You’ll meet Flowey here, who will tell you about his story. He ended up in Asgore’s garden, but realized he could not feel emotion and decided to take advantage of saving and resetting. Get the dagger and heart locket in your room and equip them. They have maximum stats, but the stats don’t matter much at this point.
When you reach the Last Corridor, save and take a deep breath. This is your final challenge. As you cross the corridor, Sans will stop you and ask you if a bad person can ever change. As you step forward, your bad time will begin.
Final Boss: Sans
Don’t let your guard down. Sans will start off with a little monologue, and then he will immediately dunk you as a blue soul onto the bottom of the box. Quickly jump back up! He then will immediately launch a string of bones at you, followed by multiple blasts from his dragon skeletons sometimes called blasters. Swerve gently through the bones, then move up, down to the center, and up again.
You’ll probably die in the first few seconds if you’re not expecting it. You have to move as soon as the battle starts. Move out of the way of the direction the dragon’s are facing. When two of them face opposite sides of the box, left and right, move all the way to the top. He will attack earlier in his dialogue if you die and come back a few times, so be on guard.
Check: 1 ATK 1 DEF The easiest enemy. Can only deal 1 damage.
He will let you have a turn after you make it past the first batch of attacks. You will notice that you have a purple bar near your HP called your Karmic Resistance. When Sans hits you, his attacks do residual damage that wears you down. Try to move quickly between turns so you have more HP to endure Sans’s attacks. The purple bar drains up to where the yellow bar begins. Wait for the bar to stop draining before using healing items for maximum efficiency.
This battle uses blue and white attacks like Papyrus. You must hold still for blue bones and move for white ones. The margin for error here is incredibly small. You have to find the right rhythm and recognize when he’s making you jump low or high. Your jumps should just skim the top of the bones. Anything less accurate will likely hurt you.
When you see a set of short bones on the bottom and long ones above, you need to jump into a gap between the small bones, move to the right side of the screen with them, then leap across once the top bones pass or jump between them.
Platforms will line the top of bones sometimes. You need to jump on these and move from one to the other. Watch for bones coming in from the top! If you fall in the bones once, you’ll probably die. Watch for where you need to jump and time your movements. Sometimes jumping isn’t always the best option.
He will start shooting at you with the skulls, forcing you to jump between platforms to dodge them. I suggest just not moving unless he threatens you with a skull and staying on the bottom, since moving down takes time. Jump up when a skull is about to shoot you, then drop back down. If two skulls threaten the same level, land on a platform above and then move back down quickly.
This battle is really hard! Expect to die a lot. The key is to just stay calm. Get yourself out of danger and don’t let the situation spiral out of control. It’s ok if you get hit once. Think like Sans and stay chill.
You just need to keep attacking him. Note that using an item or anything but attacking will not progress the battle. He will keep dodging your attacks, but just keep trying.
He eventually will get worn out, then offer to spare you. Do not accept this offer! He will kill you immediately! This is the signal of a new phase in the fight. Take advantage of this respite to use items.
He will start teleporting you to different scenarios, meaning you need to pay close attention to your movements. You just need to avoid damage until he flashes you to the next attack. A bone will hover over the side of your menu, meaning that you will take damage if you touch it. You need to time the way you use the menus. The bones will move down to the bottom bar, so now you have to look for openings to just navigate the bar. In fact, you’re better off just not moving to the item menu at all if you can avoid it.
This is when he starts dunking you by shoving you against the walls. You need to jump immediately after he slams you down to avoid his bones. When he moves bones up and down the side of the box, I suggest moving to the bottom of the box and just sliding back and forth.
Eventually, Sans starts threatening to use his special attack, and he will launch one final, very long attack. He will turn you sideways and throw you into a gauntlet of bones. You have to quickly but smoothly swerve up and down until you slam against the end. Immediately jump to avoid his bones. Move out of the red boxes that flash around you. Then, a circle of dragon skulls will appear around you and shoot at you starting from the right side. Dip downward first, then hover closer to the center, but not too close, and move in a circle to avoid the laser blasts.
After that, he will use his special attack, which is, literally, nothing. He just stands there and doesn’t let you get a turn so you can’t attack him. Just wait him out, even if it takes a few minutes, until he falls asleep. Then, move your box by forcing your soul against it to the Fight button and strike!
Finally, you’ll kill Sans, and he will walk off screen to apparently die. Or does he? It’s not clear.
With your last bit of opposition gone, continue on toward the throne room. Head to the coffins first for a rather creepy message, then head into the throne room. You’ll meet Asgore there, apparently talking to Flowey. You’ll enter an encounter with Asgore and kill him immediately without you having any control over it. Flowey will destroy his soul for you, and then plea for mercy from you. Again, you have no control over this. The spirit that has possessed you is in control now.
Once you brutally kill Flowey, a new figure will meet you in a dark backdrop. Their name is the same as yours, though their official name is Chara. She thanks you for helping her come back to life. Your massacres helped fuel her reincarnation. She will suggest that you two should destroy the world together.
IF YOU ANSWER HER QUESTION, YOUR GAME DATA WILL BE PERMANENTLY AFFECTED UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO COMPLETELY DELETE UNDERTALE FROM YOUR COMPUTER OR GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF ERASING STEAM DATA. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS, CLOSE THE GAME AND RESET YOUR FILE.
If you agree, she will happily destroy the world for you with one striking blow. Now you two will be partners forever! If you do not, she will jump scare you and destroy the world anyway. There isn’t any way to avoid it at this point. Either way, your game will crash.
When you relaunch the game, you will see nothing but blackness. You have to wait 10 minutes for Chara to show up again. Eventually, she will point out that you destroyed the world but, for some reason, want it back. She makes a deal. You give her something, i.e. your soul, and she will bring the world back. If you say No, you will have to wait 10 minutes again for her to offer the deal once more. You can only play the game again if you say Yes.
Thank you for reading my guide, and I hope you had fun! Check out the other endings and secrets for more things to do in the game.

The Ruins is the very first place you will start your killing.
Get some monster candy after toriel leaves you and get as much as you can.
This is a genocide route after all, you’re supposed to be bad.
Keep on grinding, go to full screen and while your walking close out your game until
you get a monster notification sound, Frisk should be walking while you close out your game,
the way I do this is I make frisk walk and then I press the windows button on the keyboard and i keep pressing
the arrow key until im at my desktop, do this only when your’e in a monster vurnable area.
You just one shot kill her, after that, wipe the tears off your face and move on.
Snowdin, ahh Snowdin, the place where you. you know, we’ll get to that later..
Keep on grinding, But only in monster vurnable areas: Example, the first save point in Snowdin,
And the bridge Papyrus does his «Puzzle» right next to actual Snowdin.
He still believes in you.
Just one shot kill him. you monster. as as i was saying earlier (that I didn’t want to spoil)
Again, Just wipe off your tears, the is the Third most important and heart breaking moment in the game.
Moving on to waterfall, ah yes..
Kill Count: 18-20
Remeber to keep grinding until you get the message but nobody came.
Again, with monster kid, just keep on moving, i recommend grinding near the spot before undyne does her third attack i’ll show an image i reccomened grinding in the red area as shown in the image which alot of monsters pop out from. Keep grinding, until. (BOOM) Greeted with Undyne, but not only that, but don’t worry, I got your back.
UNDYNE THE UNDYING
ATK :99 DEF: 99
Determination made from her own herione to save earth.
Take a deep breath, because this is the second hardest boss in my opinion that you are going to fight.
as in pacifist or neutral mode, you can flee. but in genocide, nope
I Recommend buying the Sea teas from Gerson before fighting undyne, but only drink them when undyne make you red.
The Sea Teas make you go faster.
Same as usual, but just faster and harder.
Yellow arrows mean the oppisote direction. good luck
move on with the sadistic world you’ve made, and move to Hotland.
Kill Count: 40 (for both)
I reccomend not to grind until you get to the core, and just kill all the monsters you meet until you get there.
I awlays grind next to the door where you fight mettaton, since that’s where monsters pop the most in the whole game, but just my preference. once you’ve killed 40 monsters, go inside the door, and don’t forgot to save before grinding.
METTATON NEO
ATK: 90 DEF: 9
Dr. Alphy’s greatest invention.
You can just one shot kill mettaton, which he will say:
«I guess you don’t want to join my fanclub?!»
And he will die.
Just along flowey’s long and depressing dailouge, and get to.
(Sorry for the short one ;P)
Take a HUUGE Deep breath.
you will be fighting.
ATK: 1 DEF: 1
The easiest enemy. Proceed to jumpscare you, kill you with 999999999999 x 10 to the 999 damage, and crash your game, causing a scary and unique ending Yes, indeed that was a long spoiler. but trust me, i saved alot of people’s lives by doing that.
CONGRATULATIONS. YOU BEATED UNDERTALE GENOCIDE ROUTE! HOW DO YOU FEEL?!
Give yourself a pat on the back, or a stab on the back, and move on with your life, this was indeed my first guide, leave a comment on how I did 😉
Genocide Route
Genocide Route
Mechanic type
if you keep going the way you are now.
.
you’re gonna have a bad time.
The Genocide Route leads to one of the three main endings of Undertale. It consists of the protagonist killing every possible monster in the Underground.
This route’s ending can occur without prior completion of the game. Once the protagonist completes the Genocide Route, subsequent True Pacifist Route and Genocide Route endings are altered – even after a True Reset.
Contents
Method
Battle text after the protagonist exhausts the kill count.
The Genocide Route occurs when the protagonist kills every enemy in every region: the Ruins, Snowdin Forest, Waterfall, and Hotland (the CORE is a sub-region of Hotland).
Starting in the Ruins, the protagonist intentionally triggers encounters and kills monsters until encounters with monsters no longer occur; this is similar to level-grinding in other RPGs. After killing all monsters in an area, encounters still occur, but monsters do not appear. In a font size smaller than usual, the battle text reads «But nobody came.«, which can also occur in a Neutral Route after killing all monsters in an area. This also changes the save point text to only say «Determination.» instead of the usual lines.
92% slower) with added reverb.
After exiting the Ruins, most overworld songs are lower pitch, slower versions of their Neutral and True Pacifist Route counterparts. Some NPCs no longer appear.
If the protagonist stops meeting the requirements for a Genocide Route at any point, they revert to a Neutral Route where the unaltered soundtrack plays. NPCs still occur in the region where the protagonist aborted the Genocide Route.
Requirements
The first SAVE Point in Snowdin Forest displays the kill counter for the first time.
Kill counters for different areas have different requirements. If certain events are triggered before clearing an area completely of monsters, the protagonist is automatically sent back to the Neutral Route. For example, if Papyrus’s battle is initiated without exhausting the Snowdin kill counter, the cutscene proceeds as if on the Neutral Route. Even if the protagonist is captured and then goes back to finish off the last monsters, re-fighting Papyrus still proceeds as on the Neutral Route. Once a Genocide Route is aborted, it cannot be returned to without reloading to a SAVE before it was aborted or resetting entirely.
There is a glitch if the protagonist enters the fight with Toriel. If there is still one possible encounter left in the Ruins, the fight with Toriel proceeds as normal for a Neutral route; however, if Toriel is killed, the protagonist continues a Genocide Route.
Differences
Ruins
Snowdin
Papyrus confronting the protagonist
Waterfall
The smiley face appears when encountering a monster.
Hotland and CORE
New Home
Flowey’s dialogue in New Home. The lack of name in the bottom left is unedited.
Flowey begs for his life as the last enemy on the Genocide Route.
Aborting
The Genocide Route is aborted if the protagonist either completes an area by sparing the boss or reaches certain points in the game without exhausting the kill counter. Future areas appear as though in a Neutral Route, but any previous areas remain affected by the Genocide Route attempt.
If the protagonist has gone past the point of no return in the Genocide Route (killing the last monster in Hotland/the CORE before the Mettaton NEO fight), they can simply reset their game as long as they do not give an answer to the final question from Chara.
Post-Genocide Game
Chara speaks without a dialogue box in the void.
Upon relaunching the game, only a black screen with howling wind appears, and the game’s window is unnamed. Inputs do nothing, and the player must wait ten minutes before Chara addresses them.
Chara reminds the player that they destroyed the world and then questions if the player thinks they are above consequences. [13]
Chara suggests that they could compromise and that they will bring back the world in exchange for the protagonist’s SOUL. [14] If the player agrees to this exchange, the game closes and appears to load normally the next time it is opened, while the console versions immediately reset. If the player declines the offer, Chara leaves the player [15] and does not reappear unless the game is restarted and the player waits for ten more minutes. Chara then offers the deal again.
Once the offer is accepted, the game closes. When re-opened, the game functions as if the player just installed the game, as a naming prompt is given. All future True Pacifist and Genocide endings are altered. Neutral Route endings remain unchanged. Routes completed after the player sells their SOUL are often referred to as «soulless» routes (i.e., «Soulless True Pacifist Route» and «Soulless Genocide Route»). The player fights Photoshop Flowey on the next Neutral Route.
Changes
The True Pacifist Route ending is noticeably altered.
Consequence Avoidance
The first two sub-sections only apply to the computer versions and the third only applies to the console versions.
Save Locations
Default save locations are as follows:
Modifying/Deleting Files
To return to a playable state, the player can enter their save data folder and either:
Console versions
In the console versions, the consequences of the Genocide Route can be removed if the player simply deletes the Undertale save data from the console’s storage.
After completing a Genocide playthrough in the Undertale Demo, the ending screen appears with red text that reads » That was fun. Let’s finish the job. » replacing the credits while playing Anticipation at a very slow speed. Also, all the pages of the manual but the first and last are replaced with said ending screen, and the last page is replaced with a picture of a faceless Flowey.

Also, all the pages of the manual but the first and last are replaced with said ending screen, and the last page is replaced with a picture of a faceless Flowey.

Undertale
