But just how do you install mods in Assetto Corsa? We’re here to show you.
Where to find mods for Assetto Corsa
First of all, you need to find a good place to download your Assetto Corsa mods.
A quick Google search will show you there’s plenty of websites out there that host mods for the game. For this example, we’re using the highly reputable Race Department website, as they have a pretty wide selection of mods and they can be sorted by type: Career, Sounds, Apps, Cars, Tracks, Misc and Skins.
Assetto Corsa content folder location
Before you do anything else, make sure you back up your Assetto Corsa files and folders; you never know what could happen to them, and it’s better to be safe than sorry!
So, before you download any new cars or tracks, you need to find where you’ll want to unload your mod content. The relevant folder can be found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\content
As you can see, the folder you want is called ‘content’. Most mods will probably come with some instructions on where to place the files, but typically they can go in the folders inside the ‘content’ folder. For example, there’s sperate folders for ‘cars’, ‘skins’ and ‘tracks’.
Once you know where to drop your mods, it’s then a case of downloading the content that takes your fancy and dragging it into the ‘content’ folder.
How To Install Mods For Assetto Corsa
The racing sim from Kunos Simulazioni was originally released in 2014, and remains hugely popular in the sim community today. Partly due to the quality of the game, updates and DLC which came from Kunos until the end of 2017. And also due to the fact the modding community embraced the opportunity to add new cars and tracks into the game.
As a result, it’s possible to drive everything from classic cars to buses and earth movers. Or visit a huge range of real and fictional circuits produced by the Assetto Corsa modding community.
So if you fancy going beyond the base game and exploring what’s available, you need to know how to install mods for Assetto Corsa on the PC. Obviously console owners won’t have the same option, unfortunately.

How To Install Mods For Assetto Corsa
Installing mods into Assetto Corsa isn’t very difficult in most circumstances. For the release of the KTM X-Bow GT4, the download file included an installer for Windows and Steam, so it was simply a case of clicking run on the file and waiting for everything to be finished. Which is handy.
You’ll obviously need to have bought and installed a copy of Assetto Corsa from Steam.
Before installing a new mod, you should always back up your existing files and folders. It’s generally rare that a mod will completely break your game, but it’s been known to happen. So the time spent backing everything up before each install will pay off if that happens.
You’ll also need to find the mod files. As with any software, it’s best to stick to reputable sites. And to check any downloads with good antivirus software. Some mods will be available for free, whilst others may require payment. It depends on the individual modders or teams.
Just be aware that paying for a mod doesn’t automatically mean it will be a safe download and work faultlessly.
Installing Mod Files in Assetto Corsa
To start, you’ll need to know where your version of Assetto Corsa is installed on your PC. It’ll usually be found at C:Program Files (X86)Steamsteamappscommonassettocorsa, although it’ll be different if you download your games to a second hard drive, for example.
Most mods will tend to have some short instructions on where to place the files, but typically the following rules will work.
To install new cars, you usually copy the mod folder into C:Program Files (X86)Steamsteamappscommonassettocorsacontentcars. Sometimes the mod will have nested folders, so you might have to remove the top level folder if the mod doesn’t work.
To install new tracks, you usually copy the mod folder into C:Program Files (X86)Steamsteamappscommonassettocorsacontenttracks. Again, you might find the mod has nested folders which require the removal of the highest level.
For sound packs, you will be replacing the default car sound files. So it’s even more important to back up the original data. The files will again go into C:Program Files (X86)Steamsteamappscommonassettocorsacontentcars.
Mods and Online Multiplayer:
Generally mods shouldn’t affect your ability to race online. Some servers may require you to install specific car and track mods to be able to race on them.
Managing your Mods:
Obviously we’ve mentioned manually installing individual mods, but if you’re getting into adding lots of extras, it may be worth checking out the Content Manager from AssettoCorsa.Club.
Despite the name, it’s not affiliated with Kunos Simulazioni, but it does provide a new game launcher and front end for managing Assetto corsa mods. Especially with management for cars and skins, weather and a repair tool for mods which are obsolete or have common errors.
There’s a free Lite version to try, and you can also unlock a Full version by donating any amount to the team behind it. As well as mod management, it also adds graphoics options including dyanmic lights, particle FX (smoke, sparks and grass), weather FX with a dynamic weather engine and more.
Obviously we can’t take any responsibility for any external content you download, so any mods or third party software is added at your own risk!
Assetto Corsa: How to Install Mods and Shaders

Installing Content Manager
first you need download link:
link [assettocorsa.club] – download only from this site
Installation:
– Unpack “Content Manager.exe” anywhere;
– That’s all.
It’s better to use some not read-only location, so app will be able to
auto-update itself periodically.
Don’t forget to go to settings and install all addons you want. I didn’t
include them into main exe-file, otherwise it’d be way too big.(you also can read README.txt)

After this you ready to install mods.

First step is to download content manager.
Content manager is alternative launcher and you can download it from here [assettocorsa.club]
It is strongly recommended to use this launcher instead of regular one
After installing this menu will pop up
Fill in Assetto Corsas root folder if it isn’t already and download 7zip plugin
Then click ok and content manager should be installed
In second step we will install custom shaders
To do that navigate to settings, then custom shaders patch and click install
Then select version you want on right side, im using the latest one coz i want new features
Next step is to install SOL
you can do that here [www.racedepartment.com]
you need to make account (its free, try searching for basic option at bottom of the page when registering) on racedepartment website but its worth it because you will be downloading other mods like cars and tracks from there
Copy these 4 files from the sol folder to asseto corsas root folder
Now you can download cars and tracks.
To do that search the car or track on google and type ac mod behind it, click a link with desired mod
and download it, after downloading drag the zip file onto content manager.
Click on 3 green bars in right top corner and click install
If you want to download more cars and tracks just follow STEP 4 again, you dont need to do other steps again

Assetto corsa how to install mods
I mustn’t be the only one banging their head against a wall trying to find a guide for how to install the track mods. i have downloaded a few and none contains a readme guide and google shows nothing.
please someone tell me how to install them. Do i paste the folders over the top of the existing folders (this might replace some of the games actual files like surface etc) or do i put them in a specific directory?
literally nothing about this anywhere on the net
The result in any case, should be a structure of: \assettocorsa\content\tracks\trackname\trackname.kn5
In the «trackname»-folder you should also see additional folders like data, ai and such.
heres the problem I keep having, I downloaded the top gear track and followed the instructions above. Inside my AC tracks folder I have the folder called top gear and I compared it to the others and it has the right files names ect. When I open AC it says no tracks available but everything else loads normally but I have no tracks to race on. As soon as a drag the file out of the tracks folder everything is normal again?
