Control: How Long To Beat Remedy’s New Thriller?

Here’s how long it will take to finish Control.

on August 27, 2019 at 10:24AM PDT

Control is the latest mind-bending thriller from Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind games like Alan Wake and Quantum Break. Reviews have been largely positive, but how long can you expect the experience to last?

According to GameSpot’s review staff, completing the main quest in Control will take roughly 15 hours, if you don’t participate in many side-quests. If you take on lots of side-quests or scour the various hidden documents, that estimate would go up, so 15 hours is around the minimum you can expect.

Control currently has a generally positive review score on GameSpot sister site Metacritic, and GameSpot’s own Control review was similarly complimentary. Reviewer Peter Brown praised the game’s gorgeous art style and stylish combat, while also noting that it introduces complex, thought-provoking concepts.

«It’s not often that a game invades my thoughts the way Control has,» Brown wrote. «I’m at the point where I want to consume every last thing it has to offer. And if I’m honest, it also makes me want to go back and replay Remedy’s past games, too. Sure, it’s a faulty metroidvania in some respects, but there are so many exceptional qualities afoot that Control handily deflects any momentary ire. I can’t wait to take part in discussions about the game, to see what others have figured out, and to better understand where it all fits into Jesse’s story.»

Control length: How long does it take to beat the main campaign of Control?

How long you spend on the main campaign of Control depends on how much time you spend hunting down the various collectibles and on the side missions, such as Old Growth.

If you want to complete the main campaign of Control, including all the side missions, then you should expect it to take roughly eleven to fifteen hours.

If, however, you’d prefer to simply play through the main campaign, then it will take between ten to eleven hours. This time might be shorter if you use the Assist Mode to make Control easier.

How many missions are there in the main campaign of Control?

Each one consists of multiple objectives which you’ll need to complete to move forward; you can find your current objective either by looking in the top left-hand corner or by visiting the Mission sub-menu in Control’s main menu.

There are 18 side missions for you to complete throughout the main campaign of Control. These include the What the Mess series, which sees you helping out Ahti the janitor, and a number of missions that will unlock new abilities for Jessie, such as A Captive Audience that will teach her the Seize ability.

The Foundation and AWE: How long does it take to beat the DLC for Control?

The Foundation and AWE DLCs for Control will take you roughly four to five hours each to complete. Though, like with the main campaign, this time may be shorter if you utilise the Assist Mode.

The Foundation DLC may take you an additional two to three hours if you want to complete all the side missions, especially Jessie Faden starring in ‘Swift Platform,’ and earn all of the trophies for this DLC, which include finding every collectible in The Foundation.

If you want to complete all the side missions and achievements in the AWE DLC, then it will take you an additional one to two hours. This is due to the side missions being shorter and less combat based and that most of them can be completed alongside the storyline for the AWE DLC.

It’s time to journey into the mysterious Federal Bureau of Control. Our Control walkthrough can help you through the storyline missions, including Welcome to the Oldest House, Unknown Caller, Directorial Override, Old Boy’s Club, Threshold, My Brother’s Keeper, The Face of the Enemy, Finnish Tango, Polaris and Take Control. You can also learn new supernatural powers by completing A Merry Chase, A Good Defence and A Captive Audience. We also have guides on upgrading the Service Weapon, your Abilities, how to use Weapon and Personal Mods, how to unlock every outfit and the solution to the Roulette Wheel puzzle.

How many missions are there in The Foundation and AWE DLC for Control?

Like with the main campaign for Control, each mission and side mission in the DLCs contains multiple objectives which need to be completed. Through, unlike the main campaign, you’re given a degree of freedom in which to complete the objectives in certain missions.

These DLC missions can be found in either the top left-hand corner or within the Mission sub-menu in the Control’s main menu.

How long to beat Control is one of the biggest questions surrounding the game at this point – apart from “is it any good”. If you’re interested, you’re probably wondering how many hours you’ll get to sink into it before you’ve wrung it dry. Or perhaps you’re asking how long it’ll take to finish just the main story, so you can jump onto the next thing. If you’re wondering about the game’s length, this guide will show you how long to beat Control main story, side missions.

The official estimate, coming from communications director Thomas Puha, is that the average player will need around 10-15 hours to complete the main story. That includes doing the odd side mission and not worrying about collectibles. However, we’ve heard reports about people needing around 8 hours for the story alone. If you’re not interested in exploring, that’s probably the shortest amount of time you can spend with the game.

On the other hand, there is a lot to do beside the story. There are eighteen side missions and more than two hundred collectibles. The devs claim you might need around 20 hours if you’re a completionist, but we’ve heard of players needing around 30-35 to collect each thingamajig, complete every side quest and obtain every single trophy.

Control difficulty settings

There are no difficulty settings in Control. Everyone gets the exact same experience, in that regard at least. While that might be a downer if you were hoping you’d get to tweak the challenge according to your skill level and amount of free time, there’s an upside here as well. There’s no reason to replay the game, and no achievements tied to beating it on a certain difficulty, which means your first playthrough will likely be your last as well.

Control is now out in the wild, letting players head into the mysterious depths of the Oldest House. As with most single player titles, many players are interested to know just how long Jesse Faden’s adventure in Control will last. In order to make the most informed purchase decision possible, knowing how much time you’ll spend with a game can be important, especially if there are other games you’re looking to buy around the same time. To help, we’ve put together a quick guide explaining how long it’ll take you to beat Control.

How long to beat Control

We’ve played through the full extent of Control’s story (check out our spoiler-free review) and racked up around 20-25 hours total while completing all of the side quests on offer and taking the time to explore the Oldest House fairly thoroughly. If you rushed through the main story alone you could likely cut that time down to 12-15 hours, but you’ll be doing a disservice to the wonderful level design and extras on offer.

It’s worth noting that Control includes plenty of content to complete after the story ends, including recurring alerts that could feasibly keep going forever. If you’re not ready to finish after the story ends, you could probably squeeze an extra five hours or so hunting down hidden locations for extra ability points. Want a more general opinion? The developers have also spoken out about the game’s length.

Answering questions on IGN, developers at Remedy talked candidly about their new game, Control. Among the questions answered by the team was an estimate on how long it’ll take most gamers to beat Control. Communications Director, Thomas Puha, responded to this question with the following information.

“One of the questions we get asked the most. It’s difficult to give an accurate answer because it really depends on the player and how meticulously you play the game. Control is just not a linear game, though you can just focus on the campaign missions. On average, we’ve seen it take 10-15 hours to get through the campaign, but if you replay it a few times and know what you are doing, of course you can get through a lot faster,» Puha explained.

«Some players have taken 20 hours when they explore, do every side-mission, find lore collectibles, complete the Bureau Alerts, and so on. We’ll have two expansions and other content following launch that will increase the playthrough time, but the main story campaign will be within 10-15 hours.”

Keeping the above information, playtime can range (on average) from 10 hours all the way up to 20 hours depending on how you play the game. If you’re looking to speed through the game’s main campaign as quick as possible, it’ll take you around 10 hours. If you’re looking to do everything there is to do within the game, expect to sink around 20 hours into the game.

As Puha also mentioned, Remedy has plans to release DLC for Control that will further expand the game’s completion time. However, as of August 27, the average time to beat Control is a solid 10-15 hours in total.

Now that you know how long it’ll take you to beat Control, what are your thoughts? Are you planning to pick up the game? Let us know down in the comments below! For more on Control, be sure to check out the rest of our guides and content.

No, just they’re heads of state.
But mostly Epic, their practices, them getting in bed with TenCent who is a human rights violator in creating China’s social credit system, Timmy boy lying, bringing exclusives to pc when not long ago the lying hypocrite was saying windows was doing the same thing, and bla bla bla.

At this rate EA is moderately less evil.

But thanks for ignoring concerns and going straight to the xenophobia card.
Just like a certain Narcicist magician does.

Hell I hate Putin, doesn’t mean I hate Russians.

I think drumpf is the scum of the earth and deserves nothing less than a round delivered at high speed, doesn’t mean I hate Americans.

Judging by your question you seem acutely aware of this though. So why ask?

Well I am mildly annoyed by Epic. I think that is the highest amount of emotion something like this should invoke. I mean.. we are talking about videogames here LOL. Inconsequential in the great scheme of things.

Tencent is scummy for sure, but no more than google or facebook.

sure about that?
As you said I’ll vote with my money, they won’t be getting it until they sever their link to epicent.
Simple. No talking, convincing or anything will convince me.

To quote what I said to my old boss «I can’t be bought»

But no we are not powerless. Would Metro or the Outerworlds be on MS if they did so well?
