An Interference Unit’s purpose is to observe and interact to gather knowledge. According to Gaburoon, Interference Units were placed in each layer, though the state of the other Units is unknown. Interference Units don’t cross into other layers, and Gaburoon noted that the transmissions from other Interference Units have ceased for quite some time; suggesting they may have malfunctioned or been «taken». [1]

Contents

Appearance

Gaburoon’s upper body is very large, with a jagged beak-like structure on their front with an oval-shaped metal frame. From underneath the metal frame, a large cape is flowing over their «shoulders» and down the back. On top of it is what looks like an open cart with a hand rail, as if it was made to transport people. [3] Gaburoon can shoot out of a cannon on their right arm, and the left arm resembles a large pincer. Like Reg’s, their forearms can be launched and retracted. They walk on two legs, which are much smaller in comparison to the rest of its body. [4]

Due to design similarities, Gaburoon wondered if Reg and they might share the same creator; noting that Interference Units don’t cross layers and them having no data regarding Interference Units of Reg’s kind. [5]

Personality

Gaburoon displays a very objective factual way of speaking when they choose to do so. [6] They also show loyalty to Faputa and listen to her commands. [7]

History

Early Life

After Faputa had fled, she eventually met Gaburoon, an Interference Unit whose body was already too destroyed to move. As they interacted with each other they grew closer and Gaburoon taught her various meanings of the abyssal language. In return Faputa brought Gaburoon material which they used to repair their body. Gaburoon also gave Faputa her name and in return she named them as well, making them her guardian. [8]

At some point, Gaburoon was heavily damaged by a Turbinid-Dragon and they, together with Faputa, encountered Reg. Reg protected Gaburoon until he was fully functional again. As they spent time together, Reg befriended Faputa and Gaburoon explained to Reg why Faputa can’t help but wanting to destroy the village. [9]

Ilblu Arc

Once they enter the 6 th layer, Reg, Riko, and Nanachi are anxious they are being tracked. Some of their things keep going missing, and strange objects keep showing up where they were not left before. It is revealed later that this is Faputa’s doing, with the help of Gaburoon, as she was trying to guide them through the 6 th layer. [10] [11]

Faputa sneaks into the camp set up by the Riko group while they are asleep. She questions why Reg hasn’t sought her out and inspects expects both Riko and Nanachi. Afterwards, she takes Prushka’s Stone with her. Once returned to Gaburoon, they offer to bring it into the village to get the stone worked on. Gaburoon also notices that Faputa brought her from Nanachi and Riko with her and Faputa explains they will make a talisman with it in the Beast of Omen for protection. Gaburoon remarks that it would be easier if she would interact directly with the Riko group to which Faputa tells them to be quiet. [12]

Later, when Reg meets Faputa, Gaburoon is present as well. [13]

Surprised that Reg doesn’t recognize her, Faputa takes him to a secluded cave to determine if he is the real Reg. She pokes and prods him, and even reopens the wound to his bellybutton to examine his blood. Reg is exasperated that Faputa isn’t cooperating and heads back to Ilblu, cautiously passing Gaburoon outside the cave to ensure he isn’t attacked. [14]

However, when a Turbinid-Dragon does attack him, Gaburoon saves Reg and warns him not to stay in Ilblu for too long. Reg, curious if Gaburoon knows anything about him, also questions Gaburoon and they tell Reg he could be an Interference Unit similar to themself. [15]

When Reg and Faputa make their way back to the village, after Faputa had ripped off one of her arms and an ear to buy back Nanachi from Belaf, Garburune stays behind to fend off any creature attracted by the smell of Faputa’s blood. [16]

After Faputa entered the village, and Juroimoh kept roaring, Gaburoon shoots him, but is instructed by Faputa to not interfere. [17]

Gaburoon protects Riko while Reg is unconscious. Reg thanks Gaburoon, but is also informed by them that this situation happened due to Reg’s resolve. Riko pulls Reg up and asks him to do something about the current situation. As Reg sees the aftermath from the battle between Faputa and the villagers, he is stunned. [18]

All villagers fighting Faputa seem to have been torn apart and lie in piles to her feet, with Faputa still busy tearing the corpses apart. [19]

After Faputa knocks out Reg, she blames Riko for Reg having forgotten her and tries to attack her. However, before it connects Gaburoon blocks Faputa’s attack causing their body to be destroyed. In shock, Faputa questions why he protected Riko and Gaburoon informs her that she would have lost Reg forever if she were to hurt Riko; hence he protected Faputa’s future and becomes dysfunctional. [20]

Abilities

Unknown Weapon

Gaburoon has an unknown weapon which they shoot at creatures of the 6 th layer if attacked. The weapon is shot from Gaburoon’s right arm. It shoots like a pump-action shotgun and needs to be reloaded before it can be used again. The creatures shot by it are flung far away. [22]

Extendable Arms

Much like Reg, Gaburoon’s right arm can extend to an unknown length, but it is not known if its left arm can extend as well. [23]

Knowledge of the Abyssal Language

Gaburoon knows Pictograms, Netherglyphs and Beyondglyphs, which make up a large part of the language used in the Abyss. [24]

Appearance

Lyza is a charmingly beautiful woman with very long, wavy yellow hair with curls at the ends that reaches her knees, large blue eyes, and a light skin-tone. Her attire consists of a modified version of the typical Delver’s uniform, with her jacket being of a strong reddish color. Her helmet has two long elegant feathers as well. [2]

She is surprisingly quite petite, standing at a shorter height than most adults and possessing a rather small frame compared to most seasoned Delvers. [2]

Personality

Lyza is described by Jiruo as a fiery and assertive woman, with a love for parties, drinking and fights. She is cheerful, optimistic and carefree, acting impulsively and expressing her thoughts with no filter. Jiruo stated that she had an incredibly unbalanced diet, but the letter of the Abyss left behind by her is filled with recipes and explanations over what creatures are or are not edible, and how to cook them for a delicious meal, suggesting that she was very fond of unique and bizarre cuisine. She was particularly fond of alcohol and spent long periods of time drinking in large quantities after expeditions. [3]

Despite her nonchalant disposition, she is exceedingly loyal and deeply concerned with the well-being of her loved ones, going to ridiculous extents to ensure their safety, and prioritizing her family over inconceivable riches or fame. [4]

Her biggest love however is arguably the Abyss itself, with an incomparable determination and even obsession to reach its bottom. As such, she more often expressed awe and joy when exploring the Abyss, filled with curiosity and endeavor rather than fear. She was particularly fond of the Garden of the Flowers of Resilience within the 4 th layer, claiming it to be her favorite spot in the Abyss. She also seems to have a fascination in the grotesque and bizarre, expressing an almost childlike passion when observing the creatures of the Abyss. [5]

History

Early Life

Lyza was born in the town of Orth at the edge of the Abyss and, at some point at a very young age, became an apprentice to become a Delver, enchanted by the mysteries of the pit. She eventually met the legendary White Whistle Delver Ozen and urged her to become her mentor. The initially annoyed and reluctant Ozen agreed and Lyza became her disciple. Proving extremely talented and passionate as Delver, she quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Black Whistle Delver by her teens, and catching up to her mentor as a White Whistle Delver by the time she was a young adult. Together with Ozen, they delved deep into the Abyss in countless expeditions, and survived many great dangers. With word of her achievements spreading like wildfire towards the city of the pit, she became a famed figure. A young Jiruo requested her to become her apprentice in a similar fashion she herself did with Ozen. [6]

Unheard Bell Flashback Arc

At some point, when Lyza formed a team consisting of multiple Black Whistle Delvers assigned beneath her, she met a man named Torka and, much to her peers’ shock, fell in love and became wedded to him. Some time after, Lyza became pregnant. Sadly her pregnancy had the worst possible timing because shortly after a Special Grade Artifact, the «Unheard Bell», was discovered hidden within the 4 th layer of the Abyss. The discovery sparked a fierce competition between Delvers from enemy countries and those of Orth to retrieve the extremely valuable Relic. Lyza was tasked with leading a squad of Black Whistles, along with Ozen, to recover it. [7] [8]

The expedition took 11 months, including Lyza’s pregnancy, they had repeated run-ins with Delvers from other countries and her husband, Torka, perished during an unknown incident. [7] Unable to retrieve the Artifact in time and return, she gave birth to Riko in the depths of the Abyss. However, possibly due to the harsh journey she was exposed to, Lyza’s baby was stillborn, throwing Lyza into despair and crippling depression. [9]

Ozen, who was carrying the Curse-Warding Box originally to use it to protect the newborn from the curse of the Abyss during the ascension, shoved the stillborn inside on a whim before preparing to leave and was shocked when the previously dead baby started moving. Having confirmed her daughter’s strange rebirth, the two carried the extremely heavy Curse-Warding Box to the surface and abandoned the Unheard Bell. [10]

Shortly after the return, Lyza descended again and settled the score with the group from a forgein country that had caused her trouble and then later retrieved the Unheard Bell. [11]

Following her daughter’s birth, Lyza left her in her apprentice’s care and made sure to hide the fact that she was her daughter, with only a handful individuals being aware of this information, as she was scared that her enemies would target her. [12]

When Riko was two years old, Lyza descended into her «Last Dive» towards the impregnable 6 th layer of the Abyss. At some point, she reached an extremely deep point near the 7 th layer and encountered a humanoid entity. [13] It is also suggested she made contact with Reg at one point in time. [14]

Abilities

Outstanding Delver Skills

A legendary Delver greatly admired for her amazing talent both as an excavator and as a combatant, displaying an incredible proficiency delving within the Abyss. It is said that she set many records that remain unbeaten, and is considered one of the greatest delvers, even among White Whistles. She has found many unprecedented Artifacts, exterminated incredibly dangerous creatures, and descended deeper than almost anyone else. [15]

High Combat Abilities

She was known for being capable of single-handedly annihilating anything she considered an enemy, be it a beast of the Abyss or a Delver from a rival nation. Her fighting ability was most likely superb, as she is the only White Whistle Delver whose epitaph refers to her ability to exterminate enemies, and she was able to delve deep layers even while pregnant, showcasing an impressive fortitude and tenacity. [16]

Everlasting Pick, Auction Name: Blaze Reap

In battle she wielded the 1st Grade Artifact «Blaze Reap, the Everlasting Pick». It is a pick-axe designed with a unique mechanism and equipped with an ever-lasting gunpowder called Peace Phopia. When it strikes something with enough force, it unleashes a violent, but directed explosion. It was originally created to be an excavation instrument, but Lyza preferred to use it as a weapon instead. [17]

Appearance

Moogie wears a hood on top of her head, with tentacle-like hair sticking out. According to Riko, the hair has visual sensors and can move on its own, so Moogie can cook even while facing the other way. [3]

Moogie has a line running through her eyes and a mouthpiece-like structure beneath their mouth. Moogie wears a big apron with a ribbon on it. They have four legs, which resemble octopus legs. [3]

Personality

Moogie is very open and direct due to interacting with many different customers. [4] Moogie is also very patient, as is seen when they explain the Narehate language to Riko. [5]

History

Early Life

Moogie settled into the village a long time ago, but was not part of the original group becoming Ilblu’ s first inhabitants. [4]

Ilblu Arc

When Riko eats at the Narehate Restaurant, Moogie is pleased Riko enjoys the food and tells her trivia about it as well as about the village. Moogie also casually introduces Wazukyan in the conversation to Riko. [6]

Later on, Moogie teaches Riko the basics of the narehate language. [7] When the Fuzosheppu attacks the village, Moogie is one of the villagers trying to fend it off. [8] After the battle is concluded Moogie notices they have never seen Vueko before in the village and questions her about her identity. [4] When Vueko tells her story, Moogie is surprised by its revelations. [9]

Both Majikaja and Moogie become a bit sad and nostalgic when Wazukyan says the village is the homeland of the ones with no place to go to, and admit they dream of continuing their adventure in the Abyss. [10]

Moogie, addressing Wazukyan, tells him while they would like to venture in the Abyss again, it would be unfair to force Riko to make such a wish, to which Wazukyan replies that nobody is forcing Riko and it is a decision only the ones challenging the Abyss can make; namely Riko’s group. Before anyone else can say something, Juroimoh shows up and starts attacking. [11]

After Reg’s battle against Juroimoh, he asks Maaa, Majikaja and Moogie to keep Riko safe, just before Faputa arrives. [12]

As Moogie, Riko and Reg watch the destruction of the battle unfold, Moogie is saddened by it but also conflicted with their urge to want to touch Faputa. [13]

When Faputa tries to attack Riko, Moogie and other villagers try to protect her. [14]

When the creatures make their way inside the village, Moogie, seeing how their fellow villagers are decimated and shaken by the events unfolding, says that it is over for them and all will come to an end now. She is pulled out of her shock by Maaa who carries the unconscious Riko and gives her new purpose to at least save Riko. [15]

Moogie is one of the villagers that watch Faputa fight the creatures, and getting more and more ripped apart, they question why they care for her well-being even though she is trying to kill them. [16]

Moogie is present after they escaped the battle scene with Riko and when Riko regains consciousness, Moogie points out the same has happened duirng the Fuzosheppu incident. [17]

Now that they learned the truth about the village, Moogie suggests that the three should talk to the one that also brought them into this, namely Wazukyan as they just spotted him. Wazukyan, those body is barely still holding up, greets them and also addresses that it is a rather crude way of Moogie saying he was the one who brought them into this since it was their actions they took of their own free will that lead to this. [18]

After Wazukyan faded away, they are interrupted by sounds in the distance and Majikaja and the other villagers inform them that it is Faputa, calling to them for the first time. As such, they think they will regret it if they don’t follow it as it feels like they would get destroyed if they don’t obey it. [19]

But as they feel like they are the same as Riko, they let her make the final decision on where to head to. Seeing how it is dangerous everywhere, the group decides to go with the villagers. One of the villagers also notes that Vueko should have been with Wazukyan but is nowhere in sight. Reg also questions alarmed if they might have missed her along the way, but Riko says they should be able to catch up to her if she is around because she is not that fast. [20]

As Riko climbs back onto Majikaja, Moogie hands her the part of the letter that was sold at the Ilblu’s Market of Value and tells her that it is a present from her and Majikaja they obtained by trading in a part of Faputa Reg gave them. [21]

Riko thanks them and, after having a heartfelt moment with Maaa, the group moves onward. [22]

After the group returned to Faputa, she shifts her attention to address the present villagers in the group and tells them while she can’t forgive them she will give them a role to fulfill. She has come to understand the value still present in the village and how to utilize it and plans to draw all of the remaining value out of the village to destroy it to give her mother peace. Moogie tells her that they came because of that and requests Faputa to do it for them, too. Faputa agrees and, while not shown explicitly, was most likely consumed Moogie and the other villagers present afterwards. [23]

Abilities

Cooking

Moogie is an excellent cook and if one can describe them the flavor or taste of the dish they seek Moogie is able to make it. [24]

Multilingual

Moogie can speak both the Ilblu’s language and the common human language. [25]

Narehate (成れ果て) or Hollow are beings who have survived the 6 th layer’s curse and whose bodies have become deformed as a result. [1] They can take many different forms depending on the circumstances of their transformation. [2] [3] Their exact properties as a species are unknown. [4] The word «narehate» comes from the term «narenohate» (成れの果て) which means «the shadow of one’s former self».

Contents

Idofront

Many of Bondrewd’s experiments at Ido Front ended with his test subjects becoming Narehate, which were abandoned in the Miniature Garden Of Dawn on the 6 th layer. [5] Most end up as amorphous blobs of flesh with little to no brain activity. So far, Mitty is the only known Narehate that is almost indestructible, can survive without food or water, and can neutralize any poisons she comes into contact with. [6] Any physical wounds received simply heal, though the tissue becomes slightly more mangled with each regeneration. [7] However, certain Artifacts and weapons (like Reg’s incinerator) are capable of inflicting permanent damage, as seen with Mitty. [8] Inside Ido Front, once experimented on by Bondrewd, a Narehate’s life status can be seen and represented by their life signatures, which are encased in tubes. Their status is either represented by a reddish light, meaning they are alive or no light, meaning they are dead. [9]

Bondrewd and a amorphous type Narehate from the results of his experiments

In very special circumstances, due to a practice that places one person’s burden of the curse onto another, sometimes the effects of the curse can be nullified, and what is received instead is what Bondrewd refers to as the «blessing». [10] The result of this ends with the subject still being deformed, but their mind and overall anatomy remains intact. Rather than becoming unrecognizable, people who receive the blessing gain animalistic qualities such as fur and claws. [11] The only two known beings who have become Narehate due to this method are Nanachi, and Bondrewd himself. [12] [13]

Faputa is another Narehate similar to Nanachi and Bondrewd, in that she is humanoid and intelligent, though noticeably more animalistic than either of them. She originates from Irumyuui, who gave birth to her after fusing with a second Cradle of Desire. [14]

Ilblu

Narehate at the Village of Ilblu are very different than the Narehate at Ido Front. They take many different shapes and forms, and seem to be made of many different materials. [15] Majikaja stated that when someone chooses to become a Narehate, they become bound to the village and cannot leave, but in return receive the form of their desire and the village’s protection. [16] While many of the Narehate at Ilblu seem to be somewhat amorphous, most of them retain at least some sense of their humanity and are able to communicate with one another using Ilblu’s language or gesticulation. [17] Some, like Majikaja, are even able to speak the language of the Delvers. [18]
