Guild
Guilds are a great way to connect to a community and make new friends. Each guild has its own chat channel and list of members to see who’s available to play with. Members can cooperate to obtain a guild hall and purchase upgrades such as leveling bonuses, shared item vaults, and the ability to throw a party.

Creation [ edit ]
To create a guild, open the guild panel ( G ) and click on the «Create Guild» button. You will be asked to enter a guild name (up to 31 characters) and a tag of up to four characters. Guild tags are not unique, but guild names are. Alternatively, speak to a Guild Registrar in any of the major cities. It costs 1 to create a guild. You will be unable to create a guild while representing another, so you must «Stand Down» before creation. The guild emblem may be changed by speaking to a Guild Registrar.
The rank of Leader is automatically assigned to the creator with all guild privileges. The leader may invite additional members and promote them to any guild rank including that of leader. If there are no leaders in a guild then a member with the next highest rank is automatically promoted to leader.
If you are the last member to leave a guild then it will be immediately disbanded, deleted and unrecoverable, including all upgrades and anything in the vault. A guild with the same name can be created immediately afterwards.
Players are limited to creating two guilds per week. For instance, if you disband twice in the same week, you’ll have to wait one week from the moment you disbanded before you can create another.
Membership [ edit ]
Guild membership is administered at the account level, and an account can hold membership in up to 5 guilds. Joining a guild requires an invitation sent from an existing member of the guild with «Admin Lower Ranks» privilege. Your open invitations can be found on the front tab of the guild panel, on the left, under «Invitations.»
Guild membership is not limited to a single world. A guild can have members from any server, whether in the US or EU.
Initially, each guild is limited to 50 members. You can purchase the following capacity upgrades by speaking to a Guild Registrar in any of the major cities or WvW, only if the guild membership is at least 80% of the current maximum size:

You can only send as many invites as 50% [ verification requested ] of your current member limit. So initially you can only have 25 invites at a time and you need for those invites to be accepted to be able to invite more.
Representation [ edit ]
While guild membership is at the account level, guild representation is at the character level, providing access to the guild bank and any active guild upgrades.
To represent a guild, open the guild panel. On the sidebar, the «Account Guilds» tab list of all guilds your account is a member of. Select one and then click the «Represent» checkbox to the left of the guild name. You must do this individually for each character, since joining a guild does not automatically require you to represent it. Similarly, newly-created characters will not represent a guild until you select one for them.
To end a character’s representation of a guild, uncheck the checkbox. The character will still belong to the guild, but not be able to use any of that guild’s perks.
Member ranks [ edit ]
Each guild can organize members into ranks. Three ranks are defined on guild creation. Their initial titles and permissions are given below. Up to 10 ranks can be created. Titles and permissions of lower ranks can be customized by any guild member with the «Edit Ranks» privilege.
To change an individual member’s rank, open the guild roster and right-click their rank icon. Leaders can revoke leadership privileges from themselves, keep this in mind while editing ranks or promoting members.

Upgrades [ edit ]
Guild level [ edit ]
The guild level is displayed in the guild panel. It increases from 0 (at creation) to 69, depending on the creation of a guild hall and the upgrades that are made to it. Each guild level requires N * 100 Guild Experience points (GXP), which has a progress bar in the guild panel under the guild level. 35 GXP are earned from the completion of each guild hall upgrade, except 100 GXP are earned for each building restoration. Guild level is a prerequisite for starting guild upgrades, currently guild level 40 is enough to build any upgrade (if all other requirements are met), and maximum guild level is 69 (6985 GXP).
Guild Vault [ edit ]
Guilds can create a Guild Vault, providing 50 storage slots shared by all members of the guild with sufficient privileges. Additional upgrades can be built that increase this space to 250 slots. The Guild Vault is accessed by speaking to a Guild Banker, located near Banks in major cities. It can also be accessed in World versus World by speaking with the NPC Guild Master.
World versus World [ edit ]
Guilds are strategically important in World versus World. They can build upgrades that provide enhancements to both players (Guild Enhancement: World Experience) and objectives (resource camp, tower, keep or castle). Only objectives that have been unlocked in a guild’s War Room may be claimed by those with sufficient privilege. Thereafter, timer-unlocked enhancements that have been completed by the guild become automatically available much faster then automatic objective upgrades. Objective auras are immediately available to all allied players at the objective. The enhancements may significantly improve the defenses of any objective, enabling a team to control objectives longer and more rapidly increase their War Score.
Guild emblem [ edit ]
Guilds can build a «Guild Emblem Template» upgrade that allows members with the appropriate permission to create or modify an emblem for the guild by speaking to a Guild Registrar or clicking their emblem from the guild menu. Emblems consist of a two-color symbol overlaid on a single-color background pattern.
After an emblem is created, it will display in the guild panel and on any objective claimed by the guild in WvW. After building the Guild Armorer Contract or Guild Weapons Contract upgrades, members can purchase armor or weapons, respectively, that will also display the guild emblem.

Guild Missions [ edit ]
Added in the Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm update, these missions require co-operation of guild members to complete. They allow members to earn Guild Commendations and the guild itself to earn Favor.
Choosing a guild [ edit ]
There are many different types of guilds that are accepting new members. Rather than choosing at random, you may wish to find one that is closest to your personal preferences. Other players, recruiting for their guilds, may frequently post messages in map chat that are visible to all players in a zone. You may whisper (/w) chat such a guild recruiter questions to determine the best match for you (there are limitations on the whisper feature for Free accounts).
Guilds may be loosely split into 3 groups, PvX, «Preference» and «Hardcore». Many guilds try to be all things to all players. These PvX (Player versus Anything) guilds have members interested in all aspects of the game. They are best for newer players who do not yet know what aspect of the game interests them the most. «Preference» guilds focus on one major aspect of the game, while still supporting members pursuing other game aspects. Finally, «Hardcore» guilds ask all members to regularly participate in the aspect of the game which is their focus. If this is your main interest then «Hardcore» may be the place for you.

Fractals are a particular type of dungeon that can reward the players with really valuable gear and crafting components. They are divided into four tiers based on their difficulty and loot. The first tier is for difficulty level 1-25 – the only requirement to enter them is having a level 80 character, T2 is for 26-50 difficulty, T3 is 51-75, and the most rewarding T4 is for difficulty levels 76-100. The only way of unlocking higher tiers is by playing a lot of Fractals and collecting rewards. This level increases whenever you complete a Fractal that’s equal to your current level or higher.
On levels 20+, the enemies and bosses start to inflict Agony – a debuff that makes the affected players lose a percentage of their maximum Health every second. It can’t be cleansed with condition removal abilities, but its effects may be significantly reduced if you have Agony Resistance. You can get that statistic from infusions on the Ascended and Legendary gear.
Fractals are considered some of the more challenging pieces of PvE group content in the game. In order to complete them, you will have to use meta builds and learn to play them effectively. Proper coordination with your group can also be necessary, especially in the high tiers. While they’re relatively difficult, a well-trained team can actually complete them extremely fast.
The valuable loot includes Fractal Encryptions and Fractal Encryption Keys. You can either open the encryptions or decide to sell them on the Trading Post. In higher tiers, you can also get full Ascended items or their components. Moreover, you can find unique crafting materials like Stabilizing Matrix. Besides the regular loot, there’s a possibility of using the daily mechanics. You can receive daily rewards for each tier of Fractals.
Furthermore, every day you can buy 30 Deeply Discounted Fractal Encryption Keys to optimize your gold gains. If you’re planning on doing a lot of Fractals, make sure to unlock the mastery called Recursive Resourcing. It makes the rewards even more valuable.
Raid Bosses
Raids are another example of endgame PvE content that’s worth your time. You will definitely need a coordinated, well-geared group of proficient players in order to clear them efficiently. Besides DPSing the enemy, you will also have to watch out for the raid mechanics. At the same time, you can only get the improved once per week in each of the seven raids. Because of that, you won’t be able to make raids your primary source of income. However, we still encourage you to do them if you have the possibility.
The rewards are really valuable. They include Exotic items and the Ascended raid weapons. You can loot miniatures (also called mini pets), Legendary Insights, and Legendary Divinations that are used for crafting Legendaries in the Mystic Forge. Moreover, there’s a possibility of receiving Magnetite Shards or Gaeting Crystals, and some rewards that are unique to each boss. The first three raids are parts of the Forsaken Thicket – they’re called Spirit Vale, Salvation Pass, and Stronghold of the Faithful. The remaining four are Bastion of the Penitent, Hall of Chains, Mythwright Gambit, and The Key of Ahdashim. Unlike the Fractals, Raids don’t have any difficulty levels or tiers.
Dungeons
If you’re interested in some slightly easier group content that still can provide significant amounts of gold coins, dungeons are a great option to consider. Each dungeon can be completed in two ways: Story Mode and Explorable Mode. Your first run has to be completed in the Story Mode, which is streamlined and more manageable. Later, you can access the Explorable Mode that’s more challenging, but it can be completed via multiple paths. These runs also provide better drops. The loot from dungeons includes gold, dungeon tokens, and of course, everything that you get from killed monsters.
Dungeons also have a daily system for additional rewards. Finishing each dungeon in story mode and explorable mode at least once unlocks a repeatable achievement called Dungeon Frequenter. If you have access to it, completing eight different paths each day provides you with extra gold and a Chest of Dungeoneering that contains some rare loot. Completing these runs is not that difficult; you might be able to do it even without playing the top meta builds and having perfect gear. On the other hand, if you’re interested in farming gold as efficiently as possible, you definitely should optimize these things. Once again, powerful builds in the hands of skilled players will make everything go smoother and faster, and time is also a resource.
The dungeon tokens can be exchanged at Dungeon Armors and Weapons vendor for gear, components, and crafting materials. Some of these items can be sold through the Trading Posts for worthwhile prices. You can salvage the others for inscriptions, insignia, and Globes of Ectoplasm.
Grinding
In the vast world of Tyria, there are particular locations where you can make a lot of gold by the good old grinding. Most (but not all) of them require participating in events. RIBA is an abbreviation for Red Rock Bastion, Indigo Cave, Blue Oasis, and Amber Sandfall – names of the four outposts. The general idea relies on circling around the map, tagging the events in each of the forts to be eligible for rewards. With the right amount of players and some practice, you will be able to run without dropping any of these events. It’s a quite dynamic and fun farming method, many players actually love running the meta events in the Silverwastes.
The most important rewards are three types of bags that contain equipment and valuable materials. Bags of Gear are the rewards for completing the events. Embroidered Coin Purses can be found in Lost Bandit Chests that are scattered around the Silverwastes. Just remember that you will need Bandit Skeleton Keys in order to open them. When you get some Bandit Crests, make sure to exchange them for these keys at Camp Resolve. Finally, Noxious Seed Pouches drop from Nightmare Chests and bosses.
Guild Wars 2 features an interesting mechanic associated with opening these bags. The potential loot depends on the level of character that opens the boxes. That being said, it doesn’t mean that you should always open them on a level 80 character. Some lower-level crafting materials can be more valuable if you’re planning to sell them on the Trading Post (and you should). To make as much gold as possible from Silverwastes farming, you should track the market prices of different materials and optimize your gains by opening the bags on a character that’s inside a specific character level range. The prices will change over time, but you can find all the necessary details on the Internet.
How to farm Silverwastes?
As we mentioned earlier, Silverwastes farming relies on cycling through the four outposts, partaking in the events, and receiving the completion rewards. You will only have to kill 5-6 monsters around each fortress to be eligible for the prizes. At the same time, you can get extra value from opening chests, collecting loot from mobs, and taking part in the additional events focused on escorting dolyaks.
As the name suggests, the standard pattern is stating at the Red outposts, then going into Indigo, Blue and Amber. During the first cycle, you have to capture the keeps and activate events. They will then spawn in the same order – that’s why it’s essential to start with the correct sequence. It is the most efficient method of Silverwastes farming.
Successfully defending all the fortresses fills a meta-event bar on the side of your screen. Once it’s 100% full, a boss will spawn in each of the outposts. You will have to defeat them as fast as possible (we think it’s best to split into smaller groups and fight all of them at the same time).
After you kill them, the second phase will commence. It requires the players to escort rams in three lanes to reach the final bosses. You’ll have to start with the bottom lane, then go to the middle and finally top. Killing these three bosses means completing the meta-event. They can drop some really valuable loot, including Charged Quartz Orichalcum Amulet of the Hive. Even though it’s an account bound accessory, it’s nice to have.
After the event, there’s a 20-minute downtime. If you’re interested in a more extended farming session, you can use this window for a chest run. You don’t have to keep track of any additional tasks, so take your time, find all the chests and open them. We recommend following a more experienced player during this part. Just make sure that you have enough Bandit Skeleton Keys. Otherwise, you’ll be wasting your precious time. Moreover, keep track of the break timer, you don’t want to be late for the next RIBA run.
Volatile Magic Farming
Volatile Magic has been introduced in the Path of Fire expansion and the Living World season 4. In order to farm it efficiently, you’re going to need a maximum level character with a mount. This resource can be obtained in six locations: Domain of Istan, Sandswept Islands, Domain of Kourna, Jahai Bluffs, Thunderhead Peaks, and Dragonfall. There are multiple ways of getting it: killing monsters, exploring the maps, and extracting the gathering nodes. However, you can get the most by cycling through meta-events. The most efficient ones take place in Dragonfall and Thunderhead Peaks.
When you collect enough of it, you can exchange it for Trophy Shipments (each one costs 250 Volatile Magic and 1 gold). These boxes contain tier 5 and 6 materials that you can sell with profit on the Trading Post.
Shiny Baubles
Since the Heart of Thorns update, there’s always a possibility to farm Shiny Baubles on one of the maps. These items are just useless trophies that can be sold to vendors for 30 silver each. There are three zones eligible for Shiny Baubles: Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, and Verdant Brink. Just check which one is active at the moment and start completing the events as fast as you can! Once again, joining a group is recommended, since it makes farming faster.
Dragonfall
Dragonfall is a zone that has been introduced in the Path of Fire. It features an interesting and efficient farming method that’s based on participating in meta events and collecting Mistborn Coffers that contain valuable items and materials. Being eligible for event rewards is important since they’ll provide you with Mistborn Keys that are necessary to open the coffers.
The meta event is relatively complex. The first part requires the players to run through the southern and western bridges on the Roller Beetle. After you complete the first bridge, you can waypoint back and go to the next one. With enough practice, you should be able to tag both events. After that, the three escort events will start. They provide really valuable rewards, so make sure to tag them all. It’s possible if you go south first, west second, and leave the middle one for last. Each escort ends with a boss fights. You have to finish them quickly if you want to tag all three.
After that, we enter the stage of upgrading camps. All the events associated with a camp have to be completed to do that. They don’t provide much loot in terms of gold value, but they’re the main source of Mistborn Keys. As usual, your main goal is to cycle between Mist Warden Camp, Olmakhan Camp, and Crystal Bloom Camp as quickly as possible, while making sure that you’re eligible for the event rewards. Menders are the most important opponents to kill. Hence they provide the best loot. This part ends after all the camps are upgraded to level 4.
Then, each of the camps gets two escort events. At this point, you should definitely split up and try to make sure that all the escorts reach their goals as quickly as possible. If your caravan completed its run early, go and support the others – there’s no time to waste.
When all the escorts hit their mark, it’s time for the final encounter – the Elder Dragon Kralkatorrik. The fight relies on attacking the three weak spots and beating minibosses. It’s best to split up and kill these bosses simultaneously.
After Kralkatorrik, there’s one more stage that features slaying nine bonus bosses. They all drop Mistborn Keys and even more Mistborn Coffers, so make sure to kill all of them and reap the rewards. After you’re done with all the bosses, the event will be about to start again, with not much downtime – it’s another reason that makes this method extremely efficient.
Collecting and Selling Crafting Materials
We briefly talked about it in the previous section, but some crafting materials can be surprisingly expensive on the Trading Post. You should always make sure that you collect all the crafting materials and components when you’re killing monsters, exploring maps, or doing pretty much anything in Guild Wars 2. It’s even more important for characters that haven’t reached the level cap yet. You should never walk away from mats laying on the ground. Even if you won’t sell them, you can always use them to craft something.
These items remain valuable because of the way that crafting disciplines work in GW2. In order to level any crafting professions, you’re going to have to synthesize multiple items based on different level recipes. Some of them will require components that can’t be bought from vendors. The demand for these materials is relatively high, as many people are still maxing out their crafters. At the same time, the supply is limited, as experienced players can get straight to level 80 with Tomes of Knowledge.
While continuously making new characters to farm materials in these limited level windows is still a questionable strategy, making sure that you collect all the mats while you’re adventuring is something that every player should do. It’s not a farming method, but it can help you generate more gold while playing Guild Wars 2.
Dailies
Finally, Guild Wars 2 offers a number of possibilities to slowly but surely accumulate gold and other valuable resources every day. Most of them are really easy to do, but doing them consistently requires some discipline and dedication. These things are usually not that popular since they won’t make you rich overnight, but they require relatively low effort, and they add up to significant amounts of gold over time. Remember, every little bit matters!
Daily Achievements – every day, you can complete any three achievements and receive 10 Achievement Points as well as 2 gold. You can pick which ones you want to do. If you’re interested in efficiency, just go with some easy and quick options. Daily Achievements can also be completed in PvP modes.
Daily Dungeon Paths – as we explained in the dungeons section, you can unlock the Dungeon Frequenter achievement that will grant you 5 gold and a Chest of Dungeoneering when you complete eight dungeon paths during a single day. It’s one of the more time-consuming dailies, so we can only recommend it to players that have enough playing time to complete all eight paths (you won’t get any partial reward for finishing 6 or 7). On the other hand, there will always be some additional drops from the monsters.
Daily Fractals – as we already mentioned, each day, you can get extra rewards for completing a fractal from each tier. It adds up to four sets of valuable prizes. However, Fractals can be time-consuming and challenging – especially the higher tier ones.
Tequatl the Sunless – is a Risen World Boss that spawns on Splintered Coast inside the Sparkfly Fen. You can easily take part in the event that requires defeating him. Just remember that Tequatl only spawns a few times a day, so make sure to check the timer online. You can use the LFG (Looking for Group) tool to team up with other players. Every day, the first time that you slay Tequatl the Sunless provides two gold and an additional chest.
Expansions meta events – both expansions combined introduced nine maps to Guild Wars 2. Each of these zones (with one exception) has a special meta event that will give you additional rewards (including a Hero’s Choice Chest) once per day. If you have access to the expansions, you can take your time to go through all of them. The Heart of Thorns maps is: Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, and Dragon Stand. In Path of Fire, four of five zones have these meta events – they are Crystal Oasis, Elon Riverland, The Desolation, and Domain of Vabbi. Dragonfall is the only PoF location without a daily meta event.
Daily Gathering – first of all, you can complete the gathering achievements (Daily Forager, Miner, or Lumberer). Secondly, in the Heart of Maguuma (HoT maps), there are particular types of gathering nodes that can provide valuable materials. However, you can only use them once per day. You can actually get more value if you use multiple characters, even if they’re created on the same account. These nodes always show up in the same spots, so make sure to use a map for the first runs. You’re going to collect Flax, Jungle Plants, Elder Wood, and Mussels. The most lucrative locations are Draconic Mons, Auric Basin, Verdant Brink, Bloodstone Fen, Malchor’s Leap, and Siren’s Landing. A flying mount might be necessary to make the most out of this method and earn gold as quickly as possible.
You can also gather Winterberries in Bitterfrost Frontier, consume them for Unbound Magic and then exchange it for Magic-Warped Bundles in Ember Bay. Dailies will also provide you with some Karma that you can later exchange for sellable items.

Favor is acquired for the guild by achieving weekly guild missions, and aetherium is steadily mined within the guild hall after purchasing the Guild Mine. The resources need not be given by a single individual, however. Any guild member may donate necessary items to the treasury at the Guild Treasurer. The upgrade may be purchased if the guild has the necessary favor and aetherium, the purchasing member has any necessary gold, and the guild treasury contains all necessary items.
Not all upgrades are immediately available for purchase. Most require the guild to have a certain guild level and have a different upgrade as a prerequisite.

When upgrading your Guild and your Guild Hall, the first steps you take must be in a specific order, but the sequence of upgrades becomes more flexible as you progress. Below is a guide to getting started with your Guild.

Further upgrades will give additional buffs to the guild or improve buildings. There is a restoration tree for each building. The order is dependent on the priorities of your guild. They all cost favor to build, which has a cap of 2000 per week. Some require Aetherium, which is time gated. Therefore, guilds need to carefully plan, manage and decide on which upgrades to build first. For a complete list of upgrades, look at each of the six main buildings.
The Notary also sells a few upgrades that do require a high-level guild: the Guild Portal at level 10, allowing for easier travel with a large group; and Further Exploration at guild level 40, unlocking new areas in your Guild Hall.

Guild level is a prerequisite for guild upgrades. The structural upgrades: Mine Excavation (1,2,3); Arena, Market, Tavern, Workshop, War Room Restoration (1,2); Notary upgrades: Hall, Portal and Further Exploration offer 100 GXP. Each completed minor upgrade generates 35 GXP. Initial Notary upgrades: Merchant, Anvil, and Stash offer 10 GXP. This Guild Experience in turn contributes to raising the guild level.
Each level requires 100 GXP to progress to the next level. Guilds start with zero GXP at level 0.

After a guild has completed all upgrades in all buildings there is no known use for aetherium. Favor can be used to purchase consumables from the Guild Requisitioner located within the Guild Initiative Headquarters. However, guild missions may be completed so that members receive guild commendations.

A guide for very small guilds [ edit ]
All guild upgrades are designed to be acquirable by guilds that comprise at least one full party: that is, 5 people. Do note that the cost of guild upgrades does not scale with guild size, making upgrading more expensive per individual if you are a small guild.
If your guild is smaller than 5 people, inexperienced players may find it difficult (or even impossible) to claim a Guild Hall. For such guilds, the Guild Initiative Headquarters in Lion’s Arch may function as a gathering place for members of your guild. Like the Guild Hall, the area is an instance specific to your guild.
If your small guild existed prior to the release of Heart of Thorns, many upgrades that your guild used to have will be «grandfathered into» Heart of Thorns, even if the upgrade usually requires a guild hall now. Such upgrades include any extensions to your Guild Vault, and the first tier of Guild Armorer and Guild Weaponsmith.
Other players can however join your squad (or party) and help with the claiming of a guild hall; the size of the group is not limited by the size of the guild. Squad members will be able to join the claim attempt the same as any guild member, by choosing the name of the guild from the dropdown menu when approaching the entrance tunnel portal.

GW2. This guide shows how to organize and create convenient playstyles using the build templates feature.
Build templates are how Guild Wars 2 allows you to organize and keep track of your traits and equipment throughout game modes which can be a great convenience. However, there are also many ways to use these to gain an advantage in combat.
What Are Build Templates
Build templates have three main parts to them and whenever you enter any of the three main game modes of Guild Wars 2: PvE, WvW, or PvP, the game will automatically swap to the template you were in the last time you were in this game mode. This also means that you are always within the bounds of the template system and whether you choose to use them or not you are interacting with that system, so learning how they work will benefit you greatly.
You can swap between these out of combat in PvE and WvW but can only swap them before a match begins in rated PvP. Tinkering with a template cannot be done without permanently changing the template, unless you put it in storage first. Because of this you should not think of the build template system as a library of builds but rather as a tool for convenience.
Trait and Utility Templates
Trait templates include all of your specialization traits and your utility skills. Your weapon skills are tied to which weapons you use which are part of your equipment templates, so using both is important.
Right click the number at the top of your templates to, among other options, be able to copy paste the build link in text. Copying the build link will put a line of text in your computer’s clipboard memory and you can repaste this text in and out of Guild Wars 2 using Ctrl + V. Outside the game the build link is not very useful, but it can be shared on websites and other players can copy paste that back into the game which will have functionality in Guild Wars 2 allowing you to inspect and copy those traits/utilities.
Equipment Templates
Equipment Templates include your armor, weapons, and trinkets. For PvP where gear does not affect your build, but an amulet and runes/sigils decide your build independently, you will need to go to the PvP panel inside your equipment template to change those.
When in your equipment template, gear will no longer appear in your inventory, so it can be useful to look around other templates if a piece appears to be missing. To manage your equipment you can left click on a specific piece and it will show to the left every item in your inventory or in another template that can be used in that slot. For example, if you select your main hand weapon you will see other main hand weapons, two-handed weapons, sigils, and infusions to the left. All of these can either replace this slot or enhance it. However, off hand weapons, runes, or anything else that cannot go in your main hand slot will not appear unless you select your off hand.
This also means that you can use a single piece of equipment in multiple templates. Legendary equipment which can change stats for free can also exist in multiple templates using different stats in each.
Trait Template Storage
Trait Template Storage allows you to save a trait template slot for later so you don’t change it or to remember it. You cannot save equipment templates in your template storage because pieces of gear are not as universal as traits. The difference between trait templates and trait template storage is that storage is account bound so you can receive traits from other classes or characters and place them in your storage until you are on a class that can use those traits.
Left click on an empty storage slot to save your current traits to that slot. Left click a storage slot that has a build on it to load it onto your current template slot. Right click a storage slot that has a build on it to delete or share it.
Every character will start out with 3 trait template slots and 2 equipment template slots by default, but you can buy up to 6 of each from the gemstore per character. Your account will have access to 6 storage slots by default and can be upgraded to 24 in total.
How to Use Templates More Efficiently
Generally it is more valuable to buy character slots than template slots because you also get more inventory space, but if you can’t level up another character, there are some ways to optimize the usage of your build templates and to save money.
First of all, templates are not meant to be used as a library of builds because they are very limited at doing that. If you do wish to remember a large amount of builds and store them in one place, using the template system will not suffice. However, you can use the template system to make it easier to do so. Using the build link you copy from the game you can paste those into a discord channel, a notepad file, or even into the guild message of the day for easy access to trait template links.
Another way to optimize your templates can be done using some creativity. If you are tight on money and can’t afford more templates or characters, you can use one of your trait template slots to represent your template storage slots.
For example, you have a minimum of 3 trait slots per character and a maximum of 6 but can substitute any of your storage slots onto your templates. That means you can mentally dedicate your storage slots to a single character to extend their maximum trait slots by the amount of storage slots you allocate to them. Designate one of your trait template slots as the representative slot (mentally) and then place any of your stored builds on that slot and you won’t need to delete or overwrite any slots and keep them organized while also increasing your potential.
This method also means you can get more value on your build template purchases through storage slots because they cost 500 for 3 and regular trait slots are 300 for 1. Of course you can only have so many storage slots and you have to dedicate them to a specific class, and it takes slightly more effort to do this than just buying more templates. Decide which is best for you.
Keybinding templates can also be very important for swapping between them without opening any UI panels and for even more convenience. Find them near the bottom of the keybinds in your options. I personally place my templates on F7 + F8 (for first set of equipment and traits), F9 + F10 (second set of equipment and traits), and F11 + F12 (third set of equipment and traits). Other options can be, equipment templates on Shift + Y, Shift + U, and Shift + I and then trait templates on Shift + J, Shift + K, and Shift + L. So Shift + Y and Shift + H are for equipment template 1 and trait template 1. This allows the organization of equipment and traits that I organize for each other to be keybinded vertically to each other. You can find other creative methods to organizing and remembering your templates through keybinds.
Practical Usage of Templates
Even though most players will want to place all of their favorite builds on their templates, there is much greater potential for convenience and reasons to use them otherwise. For example, if I really enjoy playing a power Thief build with Sword and then sometimes I like to play a power Thief build with Daggers I only really need to change my weapons and a couple traits to play either of these. Using separate templates for these two builds might feel nice because they are my two most used builds, but in reality swapping between them does not take much effort. However, if I sometimes like to play a condition thief build I would not only need to change the traits much more but also the equipment quite drastically. If I have to manually change every piece of gear and traits to swap between power and condition I have to do much more work. I would get much more convenience from putting my condition build on one template and my power build on the other, and then when I want to tinker with variants of those builds I can just change the original template.
This is why it is suggested to organize templates around archetypes like Condition and Power, playstyles like DPS and Support, or even Roaming and Zerging rather than organizing your templates around specific builds. You can think about what kind of build you wish to run and then swap to the template that is closest to that and go from there. This will minimize the amount of time it takes to get to your desired build and allow you to get back in the action as soon as possible. It is also better for players who like to adapt to the situation rather than run the same build everywhere.
Getting the Most Out of Templates
The true potential of build templates in Guild Wars 2 can even be a bit scary in terms of power creep. You could create templates of the same build but with slight changes and swap between those two builds using keybinds depending on the situation and as long as you are out of combat. You wish to play a roaming Spellbreaker build? Create one version with Endure Pain to counter power builds, and one version with “Shake It Off” to counter condition builds.
Going even further than this you could create two very dissimilar builds and overlap their effects using build templates. For example, a Guardian can have one template with tons of boon duration equipment and traits and precast a long duration of protection, quickness, swiftness, fury, stability, and other boons. Then they can swap to a heavy damage build and maintain those boons to give them sustain that the latter build could not achieve. This is sort of balanced by the fact that utility skills keep their cooldowns after swapping templates, but with good timing you could create an explosive combination. Also weapon skills do not share cooldowns with other weapons and some skill effects can have longer durations than their cooldowns, so some things can provide clear advantages.
This is an issue that the developers Arenanet are aware of and are monitoring in case it gets out of hand. In some cases this is kind of tolerable and can even create interesting speedrunning strategies in PvE, but then there are other situations like abusing mobility to get out of combat and swap between a super safe bunker build and a heavy one shot build in WvW which most would rather not see happening.

Home World
The first time you log in, you’ll be asked to select a home world. Choose any world you like. You can play with friends on different home worlds if your worlds are on the same regional server (North America or Europe).
Your home world determines which team you’ll fight for in World vs. World, a player vs. player game mode for level-80 characters.
Creating Your Character
The character-creation screen will guide you through setting up your first character and choosing their race, profession, and appearance.
You’ll also define their background and personality. These choices will set you down different initial story paths, but there are no wrong decisions—pick what sounds most interesting to you!
Names are unique to each character. If the given name you want is taken, try adding a last name or prefix to make it truly yours.
Movement
To rotate your camera view, hold down the right or left mouse button and move your mouse.
A list of keys and the functions they’re bound to can be found in the Control Options tab of the Options panel. You can customize the default key bindings to suit your comfort and your hardware.
Tutorial Instance
Your story kicks off with something big happening. To learn what you should do, check the content guide in the top-right corner of your screen. It’ll provide information on your next steps and point you in the right direction.
Green stars and circles appear on your compass minimap in the lower right-hand corner to show you where to go to continue your story. Follow your compass to find them!
The tutorial instance is a good place to practice moving around and using your weapon skill. Enemies here are easy to defeat, and you can take down the final boss with help from the story characters.
Target an enemy to see information about them at the top of your screen. This includes their portrait, their health bar, and a hint about their special abilities.
You’ll use skills to battle enemies. The skills are arranged on a bar at the bottom of your screen, and you can use them by pressing the keyboard keys they’re bound to (displayed in white in the upper-left corner of the icon). After using a skill, its icon will display a countdown until you can use it again.
When a new skill is added to your bar, move your mouse cursor over it to see a tooltip full of information. You’ll learn how much damage the skill does, what resources it requires, and whether it has any extra effects on enemies, such as stunning or freezing them.

Avoiding Damage
In Guild Wars 2, it’s possible to avoid many enemy attacks by staying out of range. If you see an ogre lift its club, stand back! If you can’t get out of the way in time—or an archer or mage has a long-range attack lined up with your name on it—try dodging. Tap one of your movement keys twice, and you’ll roll in that direction out of harm’s way. Performing dodges depletes the yellow endurance bar above your health indicator.
Dodging and avoiding attacks takes practice. As you fight different enemies, you’ll learn to identify their most powerful attacks and time your dodges to avoid them.
Healing
Every profession has a way to heal damage. You can find your healing skill in the sixth slot on the skill bar. If you’re taking too much damage, heal yourself by pressing [6] on your keyboard.
