– How old are you?

Ответ: I’m 15 years old.

– When did you get your first mobile phone?

Ответ: Well, I was 6 years old when I got my first mobile phone. My parents gave it to me as a birthday present. I was very happy.

– What do you usually use your mobile phone for?

Ответ: I use my mobile phone for so many different things. I make a lot of calls, take pictures, send and receive a lot of messages, and, of course, I surf the Net.

– How do you feel when you forget your mobile phone at home?

Ответ: That might seem strange, but I really feel a bit lost without my mobile phone. It’s like I’ve forgotten something very important.

– Do you think it’s right, that mobile phones are not allowed in some schools.

Ответ: Well, I really think that’s not good. I believe that a mobile phone is something that is absolutely necessary, so mobiles should be allowed everywhere just in case something bad happens.

– In what places would you recommend people switch off or turn down their phones? Why?

Ответ: Well, I think, a mobile phone should be turned down during classes, or any important events. We also must switch off our telephones when we are on board of the plane, as signals of the mobile networks may damage the electronic systems of the plane.

At present mobile phones have become ingrained in our everyday lives and the majority of people can hardly imagine themselves without cell phones. Is it just a tribute to fashion or a necessity of a modern person?

It isn’t a secret that today many people feel quite helpless if they have left their mobile phones at home. First of all cell phones give us an opportunity to keep in touch with people in any place and in any time (it’s especially important for businesspeople). Besides, modern mobile phones are multi-function: they provide access to the Internet, have various games, cameras, memory sticks, etc.

Nevertheless we can’t deny that mobile phones provoke a range of problems. People have started to see each other less frequently. Mobile communication requires quite a lot of money and people have to control the amount of money on their accounts constantly otherwise at the most inappropriate moment they won’t be able to phone the people they need. But the greatest disadvantage of cell phones is certainly their harmful influence on people’s health.

But we should be aware of both the positive and negative aspects of mobiles.
Let us start with the advantages of buying a mobile for a child. This can help with studies and other simple questions like daily weather or finding directions to go to some place.
Secondly, some mobile phones have tracking devices. So parents can track where their child is at any moment, to know that he\she is safe.
Thirdly, mobile phones can be a learning tool for children. There are many applications that can help to learn new words or simply train your memory.
And last but not least, mobile phones allow parents and children to stay in touch. Mobile phones can be important in emergency situations or when a parent needs to quickly get in touch with a child or vice versa.
At the same time there are certain disadvantages in mobile phones usage. First and foremost is cheating. Students can text answers under their desks during tests. Some students try to find answers to test questions on the Internet using their phones.
Moreover, mobile phones can be very distracting from important events in a student’s life such as studying, doing homework, or even crossing the street.
Besides, children can receive abusive messages from other students or from strangers.
And finally, mobile phones are not cheap.
All in all, mobile phones have already become an important part of our daily life and communication. We just have to use them wisely.

A. Mobile phones use ‘radio waves’ to send signals. Since the 1920s, scientists have known that radio waves can cause the heating of the skin and influence the nervous system. But mobile phones don’t produce many radio waves. Still children should be especially careful about mobile phone use because their nervous system may be hurt. Children should only use mobiles for short calls.

B. It is known that the strength of radio wave radiation decreases with distance. It suggests that hands-free sets may be effective in avoiding all the dangers of mobile phones. But another study described an increase in radiation that reached the user of a hands-free set. It says that the cable of the hands-free set acted as an antenna, directing more radio waves into the user’s ear.

C. Train passengers will soon be able to buy tickets on their mobile phone. Chiltern Railways plans to sell tickets through mobile phones. The new technology sends a code to a mobile phone in a text message, which passengers can then scan at the station ticket barrier. It’s hoped the method will make buying tickets easier for passengers and help fight against queues at stations.

D. Many parents now use mobiles to control their children’s behaviour. It gives parents peace of mind and makes young people feel protected. Parents say that young people are safer with mobiles than without them. But, while parents said they liked to call their children on the mobile to actually hear their voice, young people liked to send text messages to parents.

E. A research showed that those young people who have a mobile feel more independent and often use it to plan meetings both relatives and peers. In particular, young people often use mobiles to ask their parents if they can come home later. The study showed that girls more often text parents to let them know they were safe than boys. They also use text messaging for socializing purposes.

F. It is not only parents who want to connect with young people through mobile technologies. Nowadays politicians and different organizations look for ways to use text messaging as a channel for communication with the young. In late 2004, the UK government offered people the opportunity to ‘text Tony’. People were invited to send a text question to the prime minister to be answered as part of a ‘mobile chat’.

G. The popularity of text messages led to the development of a special system of words or ‘chat speak’. For example, acronyms, that are words made from the first letters of other words, are often used both in online chatrooms and text messages sent to your mobile phone. This ‘chat speak’ is very popular with children who are fast at texting. Parents might be interested to know that ‘PAW’ means ‘parents are watching’!

Mobiles have taken the place of computers and laptops. A person can check emails, search for information thanks to the internet connection on mobile phones. We can also listen to music, watch films, videos, read books and chat to our friends with the help of mobiles. It also helps us to stay in touch with people who are far away and with whom we can’t meet for some reasons. It seems nothing can be better than having everything in just one little gadget.

I think mobile phones are very useful in people’s life, but we need to find a balance between mobile and face to face communication.

The mobile phone has become an important part of our everyday life. We can’t imagine our lives without it now. Thanks to the mobile phone we can keep in contact with our relatives and friends at any time. We use them to text and to send emails, to share photos and videos. We can use the Internet and listen to music and do lots of other things. However, according to surveys, mobile phone users mostly spend their time on games and social networking. Around 80 percent of the world’s population has a mobile phone. The mobile phone industry is the fastest growing industry in the world. From 1983 to 2016, worldwide mobile phone subscriptions grew to over 7 billion.
