Task 1

You are going to read the text aloud. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, and then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2 minutes for reading aloud.

For some people photography is a popular hobby or art. For others, it may be a job or art, but everyone agrees that the invention of the first camera was a great technological event. Amazingly, the first descriptions of a primitive camera were made by Chinese and Greek scientists in the 4th and 5th centuries B.C. However, the earliest photograph that has survived to the present day was taken only in 1826. It was a misty, black-and-white view from a window. Since then, technology has developed greatly. Now we have digital cameras to produce digital images and videos.

Electronic assistant: In what public places do you normally turn off the sound of your mobile phone?
Student: I usually switch off my mobile phone in libraries, movie theaters and other places where its sound can disturb others.

Student: I guess that people can use different electronic dictionaries. They can use apps like Skype, Viber, WhatsUp etc. to communicate with foreigners. They can watch educational videos on YouTube.

I send SMS to my friends, of course. Also I sometimes do it to inform my parents that I’ll come later than usual from school.

How can you use mobile phones to learn foreign languages?

There are a lot of apps to learn foreign languages (and English, of course). For example, every day one of these apps sends me a new word to learn (with the examples how to use it).

Where do you usually switch off your mobile phone?

I switch off my mobile phone at school during my lessons. It’s a strict rule. Also I turn it off when I’m in the cinema.

Why are most teachers against using mobile phones at schools?

Most teachers think that our mobile phones distract us from the learning process. Also they think that it’s easier to cheat during tests.

I don’t know exactly. 115 in my sim card, and a few in my phone.

Nokia. Although it doesn’t include my language, it’s still my favorite.

How many text messages do you send in a day?

I don’t send many messages. Depends on the day and the people. I don’t spend a lot of money on my cellphone.

Probably my cousin Angela (9) although as far as I know she doesn’t use it much. (thank dog)

Not frequently but I think it has happened to all of us. It doesn’t matter, I just say I’m sorry and try to dial the right number!
