Подборка интересных заданий для отработки лексики по теме My house
Where is the mouse
Эту игру я использовала как на индивидуальном, так и групповом занятии. В PowerPoint создала простую презентацию — изображение дома с комнатами. В режиме анимации добавила в разные места этого дома картинку с мышонком (анимацию на появление мышонка, а потом анимацию на его исчезновение). Получилось, что мышонок появляется, затем пропадает, затем снова появляется в другом месте, пропадает и т. д.
Вы можете скачать Where is the mouse в виде презентации:
Teacher: Oh, my dear! In the house there is a mouse! Look! Where is the mouse?
Student: In the bedroom
Teacher: Great! Now, close your eyes!
В этот момент в PowerPoint я меняла расположение мышонка:
Teacher: Open! Where is the mouse?
Student: In the living room!
Если мы выучили названия мебели, то я предлагала ученику ответить не только в какой комнате, но и на чем сидит мышонок. Например: on the bed.

How many irregular verbs are there in English?
The concept of «irregular verbs» in the study of English appears almost simultaneously with the beginning of a detailed study of tenses. The division into regular and irregular verbs in English becomes important when it becomes necessary to put a verb in the second or third form in accordance with the right tense. It is on what form the verb takes in these forms and depends on whether it refers to correct or incorrect.
You can continue reading or watch an animated video, in which we tried to convey the main content of the article in 5 minutes. When you finish watching, do not forget to complete the online irregular verb exercise to assess your knowledge.
But the irregular verbs of the English language are a special group that has to be given much more attention and time. The difficulty is that the methods of forming the second and third forms of these verbs defy either logic or rules:
Irregular verbs in English are like the multiplication table in mathematics: memorizing is long and troublesome, but worth it, since the enormous practical significance of both cannot be overestimated. In particular, knowledge of the forms of irregular verbs significantly expands the language capabilities.
The total number of irregular verbs is about 500 (and these are not only common, but already outdated versions). If we talk about useful verbs that can be useful in modern conditions, then only 220-250 units of the total are needed, i.e. literally half.
According to some linguists, knowing the entire table with irregular verbs raises the level of language proficiency by as much as 5%!
English irregular verbs are a ready-made set of words that are guaranteed to cover most actions from all basic conversational topics.
How to distinguish regular from irregular verbs?
Unfortunately, since the second and third forms of irregular verbs are formed unpredictably, you will have to literally recognize them «by sight».
All students who study English must have a table of irregular verbs. English irregular verbs with transcription and translation are in any, even the most primitive, textbook (usually their table is located at the end of the edition).
It is important to remember the spelling and pronunciation of the three forms of each verb from the table. That is, if the verb is incorrect, it is necessary to learn not one word, as usual, but three at once.
As a rule, the main English irregular verbs are the most used in speech, texts and exercises. Gradually, the forms of irregular verbs in English are remembered, and the table comes in handy less and less often.
Modern English is prone to simplifying complex grammatical structures, this also applies to irregular verbs. Irregular verb forms in English change over time and gradually tend to «correct». Sometimes the verb can be used both as correct and as irregular. For example:
In ambiguous cases, exceptions, our recommendation will be as follows: in case of any doubt, it is better to refer to the Oxford Dictionary. This edition is considered by linguists as a kind of «code» governing the use of a particular lexeme. Modern editions of this book include not only traditional versions, but also most of the Americanized versions of irregular verbs.
Where are irregular verb forms used?
So, now let’s move on to the most important thing: let’s take a closer look at three verb forms and their participation in the grammar of the English language:
How many irregular verbs are there in English?
By Alina Skorokhodova Mar 6, 2019
Analytical English. This means that the grammar in it is conveyed through service words, and not through inflection. The exception is irregular verbs, which in different forms change the root vowel or even change completely.
There are irregular verbs in many languages, including Russian. For example, be-is. They are relics of the history of the language, remnants of ancient words or their components. In English, which is simple and logical in many ways, irregular verbs are something that you just have to learn. It is difficult to divide them into specific groups or explain why this word is modified in this way and not otherwise.
Moreover, they are very common in speech. In fact, without their knowledge, one cannot learn to speak English.
How many irregular verbs are there in English?
There are 470 irregular verbs in the Oxford dictionary. Most of them are basic forms with the addition of prefixes or suffixes. About a hundred more are outdated and used only in old books. However, if you want to read Shakespeare in the original, you will have to learn them too.
How much do you need to know for speaking?
For colloquial speech, it is better to know 100-150. The trick is that these hundred or one and a half are the most common verbs that describe the simplest actions, like «is» or «to be.»
So you have already heard them many times or even managed to learn them, but did not know how to persuade.

In this table, English verbs are arranged in alphabetical order, but there is also some difference from generally accepted standards: in the left column there is a translation (the verb in Russian), and on the right, all forms of the verb in English. This contributes to better memorization of verbs, both when reading and listening. For ease of navigation, the beginning of each English letter is highlighted in the table in color.
How many irregular verbs are in English?
In total, there are about 470 irregular verbs in English, but some of them are outdated and practically not used in the modern language, others are still alive, but they are extremely rare. On this page you will find about two hundred verbs.
The number is inaccurate, as we carefully select and periodically adjust the list. This approach allowed not to overload the table and highlight the most important. You shouldn’t chase quantity and learn what you will hardly ever use.
Learn these, and the rest will come by themselves if ever needed!
Note that there are different past tense forms for the same verb, the same can be said for participle-2 forms. There are many such verbs (abide, burn, burst, dream, learn, spell, spill, spoil, etc.).
How to translate the three forms of a verb?
English Irregular Verbs (AB)
It is best to concentrate on how to memorize English irregular verbs. How do you teach them? Just memorizing the three basic forms of irregular verbs? Yes, and it is also. But it is better to combine memorization of irregular verbs with special exercises, tests for irregular verbs, and also read more in English, paying attention to regular and irregular verbs and determining their form and meaning in context.
Even simple texts will help you when studying irregular verbs, since you will surely come across the most used of them in English texts.
The table below contains a list of the main English irregular verbs. First, the initial form of each verb is given, then the past tense form (second form), the past participle form (third form) and the translation of the corresponding irregular verb into Russian.
For your convenience, all irregular verbs are divided into several groups, in accordance with their alphabetical order. For example, on this page there are irregular verbs starting with the English letters A and B.
Here (below the table) a small test exercise for irregular verbs starting with the letters A and B is proposed (be careful, the exercise presents different tenses and, accordingly, different forms of irregular verbs). Suggestions for this exercise were compiled on the vast expanses of the Internet.
If you are not sure of the correctness of the exercise for irregular verbs, use the suggested keys.

How is the irregularity of the verb expressed?
In order to answer the question posed in the title, let’s make a short excursion into the theory.
English verbs have several basic forms that help form aspects of tense:
But, for historical reasons, established linguistic clichés do not always correspond to the norms, and it is much easier to accept exceptions than to try to change the established way of life. That is why there is such a thing as irregular verbs in the English language.
English grammar calls this phenomenon irregular verbs.
Irregular verbs are those in which the past tense form is not formed according to the general rule, that is, they are characterized by atypical conjugation. Such verb forms have to be memorized, since they are individual for each case. It is noteworthy that the share of irregular English verbs in speech is about 70%. This means that only 30% of all frequently used verbs obey the general rule.
On this we will complete the theory and move on to the practical part, in which we will consider examples of irregular verbs in the English language with translation and transcription. This will allow you to combine memorizing vocabulary and working with pronunciation.
Learn English Irregular Verbs
You probably can’t wait to find out how many irregular verbs in English you will have to memorize? We are in a hurry to surprise, because you probably did not expect to see such a number: more than 450 representatives of the wrong type of formation of past forms are singled out.
But do not worry, we will not learn the full list of irregular verbs, since more than half of the words in it have long been out of use in the modern language.
There are about two hundred actively used words left, which we will divide into even smaller groups in order to master the material gradually.
First 50 words for beginners
It will be enough for beginners to learn the language with a very small list of the most common verbs. This minimum will be enough for you to work with simple sentences in English.
In order not to be distracted by other rules during training, next to the example we will indicate how the word is read in English, and also approximately explain which Russian sounds correspond to English letters.
Russian transcription will be presented only in this section, since further study assumes a higher level of knowledge of a foreign language.

Irregular French verbs
Good morning friends!
Today I would like to tell you about the irregular verbs of the French language. This grammatical concept is typical for many European languages.
Usually this group includes words that change to construct sentences in their own way, not typical for other verbs. Irregular verbs of the French language, unlike, for example, English, are separated into a separate, third group.
Despite the fact that the group is not the first and not the second, many of these words are learned at the very beginning of acquaintance with the language. Why? I’ll talk about this a little later.
Division into groups
First, let’s remember how the French verbs are distributed according to the type of their conjugation. In total, there are three types of changes in words denoting an action, by time (3 groups):
The peculiarity of the latter is that each of them not only changes the ending depending on the conjugation, but also the stem. What does it look like? Consider the conjugation table for several irregular verbs and you will see the difference:

Other tenses have their own endings for their formation and auxiliary words, so the conjugation of irregular verbs is much easier in them.
The most necessary
Often newbies ask how many Les verbes irréguliers are there? There are more than a hundred exceptions, but it’s not worth learning everything at once. First, select those that are most likely to be useful to you in speech and which are the most frequent. Lists with translations of the most used of them will help you:
In order to make it easier to change them, forming the present, past or future tense, there are special tables that indicate the rules for conjugation. Remember how to use reflexive verbs?
The four main
Finally, we come to the question of why the third group of verbs is studied at the very beginning. The thing is that they include four verbs that are auxiliary for the formation of difficult tenses. These are the words: Être (to be, to eat), avoir (to have), aller (to go, to walk), venir (to come, to come). I will tell you more about this in the topics dedicated to these very important helpers. I propose to consider examples of their conjugation in the illustrations:
By and large, there is nothing complicated, especially considering the frequency of the use of these words in speech. Exceptions are found in different languages, but they always have some peculiarities that make them easy to remember. The main thing is to see these features.

There is also no clearly defined total number of irregular verbs. On the Internet you can find information that there are about 470 of them, can you imagine? Well, this is most likely given the very outdated forms. There is also the figure 218. This is, most likely, modern data. The most interesting thing is that people use only about 100-150 verbs in three forms in their speech. Of course, this is the same statistics. In any case, we know for sure the most used of them.
Five ways to memorize irregular verbs in English
You receive and perceive most of the information visually.
By writing down information and reading the material aloud, you use mechanical memory, which allows you to memorize the material in the form in which you perceive it, while it is necessary to focus all your attention precisely on the spelling or pronunciation of words, on exact images.
The next point is related specifically to the types of memory, although it helps to learn irregular verbs indirectly.
Using additional materials in the study of English in the form of books and films, etc., you can not only increase your general vocabulary. Try to find irregular verbs in texts and notice in what form they are used, in what cases.
Don’t forget about translation. Memorizing English words in three forms at once is not enough. To use them correctly in your speech, it is important to understand the meaning of all these words and the use cases.
Arrange for yourself checks, for example, every week. That being said, remember to repeat irregular verbs every day. This is not only a way to test how well your memory is working, but also to see the result of your efforts. Every day, every week, the number of words you memorized will increase, we have no doubt!
You might think that this is not so important, right? No, this is super important. A person who is confident in himself and his strength, setting a goal for himself, will never stop. Use words as often as possible, expand communication topics. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and remember that you learn from mistakes too!

How to learn English irregular verbs?
English is not among the most difficult to learn languages. But when it comes to the tenses of verbs, many seem to plunge into grammatical chaos. The present, past and future tense familiar to us have 4 additional forms each. They specify the time frame for action depending on:
As a result, instead of 3 tenses, which are typical for Russian, 12 tenses are used in English. This is by the most conservative estimates. If you delve into linguistics, there will be even more temporary groups. After all, there is also a “future-in-the-past”, which also has 4 forms. Then it comes out 16 times. Some experts talk about 26 temporary groups. The question «How many times in English?» is still very much debated and every opinion is not wrong.
In all these temporary nooks, irregular verbs lurked, the derivation of which does not obey the general rules. You just need to learn them. Like a multiplication table.
