1. Read

2. Immerse

Understanding British or American culture can be a part of language learning. There are a lot of expressions or situations that can be understood and remembered better if you know a couple of customs, behavioral patterns, books or poems.

It is always fascinating to realize that you understand a short story, a text or even longer pieces of art in English.

3. Share

Where and how, you might ask. Well there are many ways to do this. You can start your own blog (learn more how to set up your blog ) in English about your hobby, travel experiences or anything that interests you.

If you don’t feel like writing, read others’ blogs or articles and feel free to comment if you have a question! You can also try to find an online community that has the same interest as you where you can share your own ideas, thoughts and beliefs.

4. Dare

This usually seems to be the most difficult part, but you have to conquer yourself! If you find yourself in a situation where you have the chance to use English grab it!

You must overcome your fears that you might speak incorrectly, and you can also ask your partner to correct you. So whenever you travel or meet foreigners don’t forget to speak as much as you can!

Not to mention, English is great for careers with travel, tourism and hospitality.

I have been able to speak English in every country I have visited. While learning a few words in the local language is always a good idea—it is polite and shows respect—English will help you with the details of travel.

In many places where you will travel, people find English important for their businesses. They need to know English in order to communicate with potential clients and customers. In most hotels, at least one employee will speak English—often, many of the employees speak English. This makes it easier for customers to get what they need and spend their money.

Even people in small town markets around the world know how to bargain with English speakers.

You will find that some of your best interactions will be with people on the streets who are trying to sell you something or who are looking to improve their English speaking skills. English will bridge the communication gap on your travels and make traveling a breeze.

Learners 1,2 and 3 have clear, practical reasons for learning English. English is necessary in their lives, jobs, hobbies and interests. We can call these ‘extrinsic‘ motivations or goals and they can be very important because they help us decide our long-term objectives.

Learners 4 and 5 are motivated because they can make their own decisions about how, when, who with and for how long they do it. If they are in control, they take responsibility for learning. Their motivation comes from ‘autonomy‘.

Learners 6 and 7 enjoy sharing the learning experience with other people. It is important to be part of a community and to speak to people with similar interests… to have friends! We can call this motivation ‘relatedness‘.

Learners 8 and 9 want to keep learning because they are good at it. They enjoy making progress and it makes them feel good about themselves. We can call this motivation ‘competence‘.
