Thanks for sharing that with us. You are obviously on the right track, joining our karate program and exercising. Going after a black belt is a worthy goal which will get you in great shape (with the right diet). I say this because I have seen students train 3-4 days a week, and barely change their physique after a year. This is simply due to diet. Below is something that I posted on facebook a while back, when I had another student as me about what diet and exercise program to follow, I wanted to share it here as well.
“What is a good diet that works?”
1. Begin juicing (organic) fruits and veggies every morning.
2. Remove grains from your diet. You will notice that you begin eating way more fruits, veggies, and nuts throughout the day. This is extremely good for cutting weight.
3. Begin only drinking water. If at times you want something other than water, stick to unsweet black or green tea, or kombucha (a good soda replacement).
4. Never go to a fast food restaurant again. (McDonalds, KFC, Wendys, Pizza Hut, Subway, etc.) You can replace what you used to eat with real food.
Your diet is absolutely everything. Cut out fake ingredients; start eating as close to a whole food as possible. The closer to the sun it is on the food chain, the higher potency of energy. You could work out 2 hours a day with a bad diet and never see results. Try my guidance here and you will start to feel wonderful and light.
Of course, there will be more changes to come. But your body will make them on its own accord. This first step will take you there. You will begin to dislike the taste of white sugar, white flour, and the other drugs that you used to be on. I pray that this helps you.

Good advice.
I have used a dial watch for keeping a handle on my intake. I simply look at the watch and put off a snack until the big hand reaches the ( pick a number in the future). Sometimes I wind up skipping the snack and find myself at the next meal. I read the advice about eating small bits all day. That also sounds like a useful idea to keep me from overfilling my tank and keeping the processing even.
That’s a good trick, and really, self-control. I know my body is different (being an ectomorph), but I don’t tend to put off snacks, I eat quite a few throughout the day. But the type of snack I am choosing is so important. People almost always grab and want a grain and sugar based snack. Pretzels, chips, cookies, crackers, cereal, bars, etc. are often based in grains. If you eat a snack that is a fruit, veggie, nuts, or even a cheese or yogurt; you will be much better off. Yes, I think it is better to eat a nice midmorning snack and a good afternoon snack, so that you are less likely to overeat at lunch and dinner. Eating too much at one sitting can create excessive tiredness and sluggishness, since your body has to allocate so much energy to digestion.
