Minecraft Grindstone
Grindstone in Minecraft can be used to repair and disenchant items as well as functioning as the job site block for the weaponsmith villager profession. You can obtain a Grindstone by taking it from a weaponsmith villager or by making it yourself on the crafting table. To craft a grindstone, place sticks on either side of the first row with a stone slab in the center, then place two planks directly underneath the two sticks. To repair items, place two similar items to combine their durabilities; while, simply place an enchanted item in either slot to gain a regular version of that item along with experience.

How to Get the Grindstone in Minecraft
There are two ways to get a grindstone. One is to locate a village and take the grindstone from a weaponsmith villager. The other way is to make it yourself.
Grindstones can be found in villages often in generated structures like this one. If you cannot find one through world generation it is not too hard to make one yourself.
How to Use the Grindstone in Minecraft
If your tools are looking worse for wear you can use the grindstone to repair it. Open the grindstone UI by right clicking on a grindstone.
The two squares on the left are for repairing. You can use either when disenchanting. The square on the right is the result, so you can take a look and see if you want the repair or disenchantment to go through or not. Placing two of the same tool will consume both and repair the item equal to the sum of their durability plus 5% of their max durability.
Using a grindstone does not affect regular repairing. Repairing from any crafting menu will add the durabilities of the item plus 5% so the grindstone having this quirk is not that exciting.
The unique part of the grindstone is how it will remove enchantments and give you experience.
Place an enchanted item in either of the squares to the left and it will strip the enchantments off of the item and give you experience once you select the item on the right. The amount of experience you get depends on how many enchantments there were as well as their level.
How to Make the Grindstone in Minecraft
Making a grindstone only requires two wooden planks, two sticks, and one stone slab. Place two sticks on either side and a stone slab in between them. Then place two wooden planks of any kind into the crafting menu below the sticks.
This is the recipe for a grindstone.
Trivia
A grindstone will not remove curses. You can place an enchanted book with multiple enchantments and a curse on it and remove all the enchantments from it except for the curses.
Repairing an item in a grindstone is just as efficient as doing it in your inventory. Use the grindstone for disenchanting items, repairing items in the grindstone is unnecessary.
Q. Is Grindstone better than the Anvil?
For repairing items, the grindstone does not inflict a penalty like the anvil does. The grindstone also does not run out of durability like the anvil does. Anvils are still a bit better as you can combine enchanted pieces together rather than simply removing them. Anvils are necessary to make perfect enchanted gear as the odds of getting the perfect enchantments on tools or armor is nearly impossible.
Q. How much XP does the Grindstone give?
The grindstone will give you experience depending on the enchantments it removes. The higher level the enchantments, and the higher quantity of enchantments will drop more experience. For example Sharpness I will only grant anywhere from 1-21 experience, but Sharpness V will drop 45-65.
How to make a Grindstone in Minecraft
If you would like to do something with the accumulated enchanted items you have obtained you can turn them into XP with a grindstone. The grindstone is a cheap recipe that can be used as a job block for villagers or placed in a crafting area to help tie a room together. Grindstones can also be used to repair tools.
Required Materials for Grindstone
— 2 Sticks
— 2 Wooden Planks
— 1 Stone Slab
— 1 Crafting Table
The recipe for a grindstone calls for two sticks which can be made in abundance by chopping down trees.
You can use any two types of wooden planks for this recipe. You can even mix and match the type of wood you use in the recipe. The grindstone will always look the same regardless of the type of wood you use.
One stone slab is needed to make a grindstone. It has to be a stone slab. You cannot use a cobblestone slab or a smooth stone slab.
Finally, you will need the 3×3 crafting grid of a crafting table to make a grindstone.
How to make a Grindstone in Minecraft?
In a Nutshell:
To make a grindstone, open the crafting table UI. Place a stick and plank in the first two boxes of the first and third column, then a stone slab in the center of the first row. Your grindstone has been made, now simply the Grindstone and drag it into your own inventory.
Step-by-Step Guide(with Pictures):
Here is the step-by-step pictorial guide you need to follow to make a Grindstone in Minecraft:
Step 1: Gather and Smelt Cobblestone
Start by gathering some cobblestone. Take a pickaxe and break some nearby stone to get cobblestone.
Take your cobblestone and place it into a furnace to make regular stone. Wait for it to finish cooking. You will need at least three regular stone pieces to make stone slabs.
Step 2: Gather Wood
While your stone is cooking, chop down some trees. Turn your logs into planks and save at least two of them. Turn some wooden planks into sticks by placing them in your crafting menu.
Step 3: Craft Stone Slabs
Turn your stone into stone slabs by placing them in a row in a crafting table.
Step 4: Craft Grindstone
Place a stone slab in the middle. Put two sticks on either side of the stone slab and place two wooden planks below the sticks. It does not matter which type of plank you use to make the grindstone.
That’s it! Your grindstone is ready for use.
How does a Grindstone work?
Place your grindstone down and right click to open its UI.
You will see two slots at the left and the right slot will show you what you will get. Placing two of the same tool will repair the item. Both items in the left slots will be consumed when you click the resulting tool.
You can also place any enchanted book or tool into the grindstone to get the regular base item. This will remove any enchantments, except for curses, and give you some XP.
This can be useful for turning any useless book into XP or for removing the level penalty on a tool. If you did not know, every time a tool is used in an anvil for combining enchantments or repairs, the next time you do so will cost more levels. A grindstone will remove every enchantment and also reset this level penalty.

Q1. What does a Grindstone do to a villager?
A. A grindstone is a job block that will give the weaponsmith profession to an unassigned villager. Any unassigned villager will seek out nearby job blocks to find a profession. Weaponsmiths will buy coal for emeralds and at the higher levels of job profession sell enchanted diamond axes and swords.
Q2. Why does a Grindstone have 2 slots?
A. Grindstones can be used to repair tools. This is a relatively useless effect of the grindstone because you can repair tools without a grindstone to begin with. Repairing a tool requires two of the same kind. The resulting tool will be repaired with a little more durability than the sum of the two tools. Grindstones allow you to repair enchanted items with the same tool, but the enchantment will be removed.
Q3. Do Grindstones give XP?
A. Grindstones will only give XP if you placed an enchanted item during repair or disenchanting. Higher level requirement enchantments will drop more XP. Grindstones do not remove curses and you cannot gain XP from a cursed item.
Conclusion
Congratulations! You now have a villager job block that can turn any unassigned villager into a weaponsmith. Grindstones can also be used as a way to gain many levels if you have a lot of unused enchanted weapons, tools, armor, or books. They are relatively cheap to make and can be used to gain a lot of experience.

Everything you need to make Grindstone
Grindstone is one of the job site blocks in Minecraft that can be used to turn a normal villager into a weaponsmith. It has a dull stone texture with two wooden handles and is usually used for making a chain in Minecraft. To craft a Grindstone, you just need some wood and stone.
How to craft Grindstone in Minecraft
#1 Collect 2x Planks
You can craft 4x Planks by using 1x Log/Wood/Stripped Log/Stripped Wood. You can use any type of the total eight wood types in Minecraft for the Grindstone.
You can also find Planks generate in most Minecraft structures, from the dangerous mineshaft to a cozy village. Just make sure to use an axe to chop them down!
#2 Collect 2x Stick
You can craft 4x Stick by putting 2x Planks in the crafting grid in a column shape.
Using the same shape but replacing Planks with Bamboo, you can get 1x Stick.
If you’re in a desert or forest biome, try breaking leaves and dead bushes. They have a chance to drop 0-2x Stick on broken.
#3 Collect 1x Stone Slab
To craft Stone Slab, you need to collect a smooth Stone first. This can be done in many ways like using a Silk Touch pickaxe to mine stone underground or to cook Cobblestone in the Furnace.
If you have 3x Stone, put them in one line on the crafting table to craft 6x Stone Slab.
If you only have 1x Stone and a Stonecutter, putting the stone in it will give you 2x Stone Slab.
#4 Finish off crafting a Grindstone
When you have 2x Planks, 2x Stick, and 1x Stone Slab, right-click a Crafting Table and put the Stone Slab in the top middle grid, then put 2x Stick next to it. Finally, put 2x Planks underneath each stick to craft 1x Grindstone.
Grindstone can also be generated naturally at the village weaponsmith.
