In the game, you can store your valuables in an ender chest to keep them safe. An ender chest has special powers compared to a regular chest. With an ender chest, the items inside the ender chest are specific to a player and will teleport between ender chests. So you can use more than one ender chest in the game and always have your stored items available from any ender chest. Let’s explore how to use an ender chest.

Background

When you play the game, you will begin to fill your inventory with items that you’ve gathered. An ender chest can be used to store valuable items or items that you don’t currently need.

Each item stored in an ender chest is removed from your inventory. When you want to use that item, you will need to take it out of the ender chest and place it back into your inventory.

Steps to Use an Ender Chest

1. Place the first Ender Chest

Because all of the items inside your ender chest will teleport to all other ender chests, you will want to place ender chests throughout your world and in each of the different dimensions (Overworld, Nether, End). That way, you will always have your items handy within the ender chest.

Add at least 2 ender chests to your inventory and select them in your hotbar. Now you will want to put ender chests in all important places in the game. So we will start by placing an ender chest in our shelter. Position your pointer (the plus sign) on the block where you want to place the ender chest. You should see the block become highlighted in your game window.

You should now see your ender chest appear. This is the ender chest that you placed in your shelter/home.

2. Place Items in the Ender Chest

Now, let’s open the ender chest so that you can put items inside. To open the ender chest, position your pointer (the plus sign) on the chest.

The Ender Chest menu should appear.

In the top of the Ender Chest menu, there are 3 rows, each with 9 boxes. These are the 27 boxes that you can use to store items in your ender chest.

To put an item in your ender chest, you need to move items from your inventory into any of the top boxes in the Ender Chest menu.

In this example, we have moved our 1 diamond, 1 ender pearl, 5 cobblestones, and 2 strings into the ender chest. They will no longer be part of your inventory. To use these items, you will need to take them out of your ender chest and put them back in your inventory.

3. Place the second Ender Chest

Next, you will want to place a second ender chest in another useful location. So let’s place our second ender chest by our nether portal. Position your pointer (the plus sign) on the block where you want to place the second ender chest. You should see the block become highlighted in your game window.

You should now see your second ender chest appear next to the nether portal.

4. Open the second Ender Chest

Now if you opened the second ender chest, you will see the items that you placed in your first ender chest. This is because an ender chest will teleport the items back and forth between all ender chests.

The Ender Chest, an alternate version of the Chest, is crafted with 8 Obsidian surrounding an Eye of Ender.

Special Ability

The Ender Chest has a special «teleporting» ability: When an item is placed in it, all Ender Chests belonging to the owner will contain that item. This is not duplication; when an item is removed, it will be removed from all the chests. The items cannot be shared by different players, though; only the player who deposited the item can remove it. Hoppers cannot be linked to Ender Chests.

How to Make an Ender Chest in Minecraft

In Minecraft, like regular chests, an ender chest stores items, but has an added perk. It shares the inventory with other ender chests put anywhere in the world, including in other dimensions such as the Nether or the End.

If an ender chest is destroyed, the contents do not drop as they do in standard wooden chests. Instead, you can retrieve them at another ender chest in your world or by simply creating a new ender chest. The main drawback is that it’s far more difficult to make an ender chest than a chest, since it requires obsidian blocks and an ender eye, with both of them being harder to find than most items.

How to get Obsidian?

Obsidian can be mined at places where water meets lava, which means that you can also initiate the production of obsidian. With a bucket, scoop up the lava and dump it into a four-block pit. Pour the water such that it flows down into the lava from a certain height. Doing this will result in the lava turning into obsidian, which can then be mined with a diamond pickaxe. Moreover, it can also be acquired on the Nether Portal, or in an unlimited form on the platform in the End region that is created every time you enter The End.

How to get Eye of Ender?

In Minecraft, The Eye of Ender has many applications. One being an ingredient used to craft other objects such as the ender chest seen above. The Eye of Ender can be obtained by crafting. You need to gather a blaze powder and an ender pearl to craft the eye of ender in Minecraft. Ender pearls are dropped by Endermen, tall and slender mobs when they die. Blaze powder is an item made from a blaze rod obtained from blazes. Blazes are golden flying hostile mobs found in nether fortresses that drop blaze rods upon being killed. Use the blaze rods to craft blaze powder. Once you have the blaze powder and the ender pearl, using the crafting recipe show below:

How to make Ender Chest in Minecraft?

In a Nutshell:

To make an Ender chest, place eight pieces of Obsidian around the outside perimeter of the crafting GUI, leaving a blank space in the middle square. In the empty box in the center of the grid, place an Eye of Ender to complete the crafting process. Now simply click the ender chest to collect the block out of the crafting table and drag it into your own inventory.

Step-1 Open the crafting table

Open your crafting table to begin crafting the ender chest with the obtained ingredients contained in your inventory. To find out how to make a crafting table, click here.

Step-2 Place the Obsidian

Given that you have at least 8 obsidian blocks in your inventory, place them on the grid filling up every spot except the one in the centre of the grid. Follow the picture below:

Step-3 Place the eye of ender

Once you place the obsidian, one spot on the grid is empty. This is where our second item will be placed: the eye of ender. As soon as you place it, the ender chest will appear on the other side.

Step-4 Place the ender chest in your inventory

You have the ender chest crafted, now drag it in your inventory.

But if you don’t have either of the materials required to make an ender chest, we’ll explain both starting with how to get obsidian. Overall, finding obsidian is very easy; the hard part is mining it. To start, to get obsidian, you generally need to make it yourself by finding lava; you can find lava spawning underground and around mountains on the surface. Once you find lava, dump water on it, and it will turn into obsidian blocks, and all you need to do then is mine it with a diamond pickaxe

Upon death, blazes will drop an item called blaze rods; you will need blaze rods to make blaze powder. When you get some blaze rods, simply place them anywhere inside a crafting table to make the blaze powder. Once you have both blaze powder and ender pearls, you can then make the eye of ender with the following recipe pattern below.
