Group Games
The Roblox group games feature allows multiple developers to work on the same game, use the same assets, share profits, and give credit to all contributors.
Creating a New Group
Roles and Permissions
Configuring Roles
As a group’s owner, you can configure roles for other members in your group as follows:
Assigning Roles
If you’re the group owner or have been assigned to a role with the correct permissions by the group owner, you can edit another member’s role as follows:
Publishing Group Places
If you’re the group owner or a member with the Create and edit group games permission, you can publish a group place as instructed below.
Publish as New Game
Publish to Existing Game
Revenue Sharing
One of the primary benefits of publishing a group game is the ability to share game revenue quickly and easily. Group owners can pay contributors by either transferring group funds as a one-time payout or by scheduling recurring payouts. Roblox will conduct periodic verification of funds to prevent fraud and abuse, at which time payout functionality may not be available.
Payouts are managed through Revenue → Payouts on the group’s admin page.
One-Time Payout
Group owners may distribute a one-time transfer of Robux to a single group member or multiple members. This payout can be either a lump sum or a percentage of the group’s total funds.
Recurring Payout
Group owners can also set up recurring payouts to share profits automatically, as they are earned. Note that recurring transfers may be slightly delayed from the time funds are received until they are distributed to members.
Safety in Group Games
When creating a Roblox game with others, note that members with the Create and edit group games permission can change the Allow Copying setting for a creation. Safety and IP protection in group games can be improved by following a few simple tips:
Group Owners — Make sure that each group role has the correct permissions. If a role is intended for somebody who simply promotes your game on social media, it should not have the Create and edit group games permission enabled.
Group Members — Ask the owner or higher-ranked members to assign all members to their proper role on the team. Also, if you have permission to create and edit group games, make sure that Allow Copying is disabled for a place before you add any sensitive IP to it.
Conflict Resolution
Group ownership of games means developers can more easily collaborate and operate as independent game studios. If a conflict should arise within your group, however, Roblox will not help arbitrate or resolve disagreements. Any technical issues should obviously be reported, but any discord regarding how a group is run or organized must be settled among the group’s members.
Group
Groups can be set public or private. If private, the player’s join request will be considered as «pending» until a group admin approves or declines their request. If public, the player can join the group without manual approval.
Previously players were given a certain limit on how many groups they were able to join based on their membership. Before the removal of Builders Club, Non-Builders Club and Non-Premium members were permitted to join up to five groups at one time. Classic Builders Club members were allowed to join/own up to 10 groups at one time, Turbo Builders Club members were given the privilege to own or be in up to 20 groups at one time, and members with Outrageous Builders Club or Roblox Premium had the privilege to join or own 100 groups.

History
On September 28, 2009, the ability to add personal servers to groups was implemented. Prior to 2011, it was called «group building» being that it was previously only available to groups. Despite these being group-owned, it was only possible for the group owner to make changes to the place. [blog 3]
On February 3, 2011, the ability for users to advertise their group was implemented. [blog 4]

On May 28, 2015, the ability to make non personal server group games was implemented. With this update, it was made possible for multiple people to collaborate on one place, as well as game revenue now being transferred to group funds. [blog 5]
On January 23, 2019, the group interface received an overhaul. [1]
Around December 17, 2019, the maximum number of groups for all users to join was raised to 100 groups. The creation of groups were also changed to allow all users create groups, regardless if they are a Premium member or not. [2]
On January 6, 2021, Roblox group owners were given the ability to change the names of groups. [3]
Creating a group
In order to create a group, players must go to «My Roblox» and click on the button labeled Groups. On the left side of the screen, the list of groups that a player is currently in is listed, along with a button above the list titled «Create New». Players may then give their group a name, add group info and an icon, and pay 100 Robux for their group to be created.
Group name, icons and info may be changed later. (100 Robux fee for changing the group name)
Once the group name is changed, the following things will happen:
Group Discovery
On Roblox, users can find new groups either by going to the Top Groups page or by Searching Groups.
Top Groups
Top Groups is the default homepage of groups here users can find groups their friends are in or Experience Studios, Military, Roleplaying, and Fan Groups. Here users can also see the top six groups in these categories.
Group Search
Here users can search for any group; users can get here either from the global search bar on the Roblox topbar or via the group discovery page. Users can search any term as long as it abides by the rules of Roblox. If an inappropriate term is entered «Search term not appropriate for Roblox.» will appear.
Group Leaderboard
On Roblox, the size of a group is determined by the number of members it has. As of April 6, 2022, these are the ten largest groups.

Features
There are many features provided for groups on Roblox. A maximum of 18 ranks can be set, along with certain allowed privileges and the amount of power a rank may have over another. If a rank is given enough power to do so, members may force (exile) a member to leave a group, add clothes, models, meshes, and decals for sale to the group store, create «shouts» for all members in the group to see, have a group wall, and add allies and enemies. They may also oversee every action in a group in the Audit Log.
Clans could have been created for 500 Robux, and group admins could invite a member to join the clan, however, they got removed.
Group funds may be distributed among group members and the group’s owner.
Groups may also be set to require entry approval. When set, a group admin may approve the player for entry to the group. On the applicant’s screen, this will show as «join pending».
Revamp
On December 13, 2018, a group revamp was announced privately, [4] which changed the group UI but does not introduce new features. The revamp was only available for members of the Roblox Beta Program.
The new group UI doesn’t have the clans feature and was revealed in the initial post that clans are being removed.
On January 15, 2019, the «Games» tab was removed and all games were placed under the «About» tab.
On January 23, 2019, at 8:00 PM EST, the new group UI went live for all users.
Criticism
Group names, which were locked once created, have also been criticized among the community for the lack of ability to rename groups. However, on January 6, 2022, the feature to rename groups was eventually released into Roblox.
The community has criticized groups for being botted in order to appear to have a larger fanbase than what they really have.
Groups have been subject to being «disposable» for holding bait-and-switch games. Group funds are usually distributed through many fake accounts until being finally distributed to the desired user, with the group being discarded as a result.
Team Create
Team Create is a Studio feature that lets you collaborate on place and script editing with other creators. Once enabled, creators with the correct permissions can invite others, and each collaborator can see the changes others make while they work.
Enabling Team Create
You can enable Team Create for an experience when you first save it to Roblox. You can also enable it for an already-saved experience.
With the Team Create window open, click the Turn On button.
Once enabled, the window shows a list of creators who have play or editing permissions for the experience. Studio assigns a color to each creator to help identify them during the editing session.
Managing Collaborators
If you own the experience, you can add individual collaborators. If a group owns the experience, the owner can edit which group roles have editing permissions.
Individuals
While you can grant play permissions to any user, you can only grant editing permissions to your friends. To give editing permissions to individual collaborators for an experience that you own:
In the Collaborators section, search for a creator by their Roblox username. Click their username to add them as a collaborator.
Select Edit from the permission menu.
Group Roles
The owner of a group can manage which roles have editing permissions.
All Group Experiences
To manage which roles in a group have editing permissions for all group experiences:
Navigate to the Groups page and select the group.
In the left column, select the Roles tab.
Specific Group Experience
To manage which roles in a group have editing permissions for a specific experience:
With the experience open in Studio, click Game Settings from the Home tab.
In the Game Owner section, expand the tree next to the group icon.
For each group role that you want to give editing permissions to, select Edit from the permission menu.
Accessing a Session
Those who have permission to edit an experience can join a Team Create session as follows:
Close all currently open places in Studio, or restart Studio.
Select the Shared With Me tab for individually-managed games, or the GroupВ Games tab if it’s a group game.
Click the desired tile to begin editing.
Collaborative Building
All collaborators can manipulate objects, and the changes automatically appear for other collaborators.
User Color
Each collaborator in a session has a color behind their avatar in the Team Create window.
When a collaborator selects an object, a selection box in their color appears around the object in the 3D view. The Explorer window also indicates when a collaborator selects an object.
Undo and Redo
If multiple creators have made edits to a part or instance, pressing Undo for that object reverts it to the state before you made a change and revert all changes that other editors might have made following your latest edit.
Collaborative Scripting
If Team Create is on, Roblox stores scripts in a central cloud-based repository that all collaborators can access. This allows creators to:
Collaborative scripting is disabled by default. To enable it, select Game Settings в†’ Options and turn on EnableВ CollaborativeВ Editing. Note that you’ll also need to disable Team Create and then re-enable it to restart the session.
Drafting Scripts
You can edit scripts while collaborators edit them and playtest scripts locally without affecting the experience for others. After you finish drafting a script, you can commit it to the cloud and Team Test the cloud version with collaborators.
When editing a script, it appears in the Drafts window, accessible from the View tab. Drafts are saved to your local file system and persist between Studio sessions on the same machine.
Comparing Local and Cloud Scripts
To compare a local draft of a script with the version saved to the cloud:
Right-click the local draft.
Select Compare with server to open the Diff Result window.
Compare the line numbers to help determine which to keep. Code that collaborators changed or deleted appears in red. Code that you updated appears in green.
Committing Scripts to the Cloud
To commit your local edits to the cloud:
Left-click a script, or hold Shift and left-click to select multiple scripts.
Click Commit to commit all selected scripts to the cloud.
Merging Changes
If a collaborator commits to the same script that you’re editing, an icon with a green вЉ• symbol appears in the Drafts window.
To merge their changes into your script:
Identify which scripts you need to merge.
Left-click a script, or hold Shift and left-click to select multiple scripts.
Right-click any selected script.
Click Merge from server to open the Merge Tools window. This window shows you how the latest edits relate to your own. If there are conflicting changes, you can pick which code to keep, or make manual edits.
Once you check the desired options, toggle the Preview Resolution switch to preview how the script will look.
Restoring Deleted Scripts
If a collaborator deletes a script that you’re editing, an icon with a red вЉ symbol appears in the Drafts window:
To restore deleted scripts:
Chatting with Collaborators
To chat with collaborators:
Click on the text box and type your message.
Press Enter to send the message.
Saving and Publishing
If Team Create is on, Studio automatically saves the project to the cloud every five minutes. The Output window shows the place name and save location after the save is successful. Additionally, the status bar at the bottom of the Studio window shows when a save is in progress and when it’s done.
Changes made between auto-saves isn’t published, so updating a live game still requires explicit publishing via PublishВ toВ Roblox.
Reverting to Previous Versions
The owners of an experience can revert changes made by other editors.
Navigate to the experience’s main page on the Roblox website.
On the target page, click Version History in the left column.
Choose an earlier version and click Revert to this version to roll back.
Be careful when reverting changes in this way. If anyone is currently editing a game with Team Create, their session could still auto-save and overwrite the revert action. To ensure that nobody else is editing the game when you revert the changes, disable Team Create.
Disabling Team Create
Owners of an experience can disable Team Create. When disabled, Studio forces all other collaborators to exit the session.
To disable Team Create:
At the bottom of the Team Create window, click the … button.
When prompted, click Yes to end the session.
Roblox Studio/Team Create
Team Create is a feature in Roblox that allows a user to build on Roblox Studio if added to the list by the owner of the game. Team Create is the feature which replaced personal servers. It was released on April 13, 2016.

How to Use
To use Team Create, go to the View tab in Roblox Studio, and then click on the Team Create button. If the feature is turned off, click on the green Turn On button, providing that the place is published. When clicked, it will restart Roblox Studio and enable Team Create. Next, type in a username in the box on top of the panel. Once you invite someone, set their Permissions level to Edit, then have him/her go to the place’s page and click on the Edit button. They will then be added to the editing session. A transparent sphere indicates that a user is building in that area.
Permissions
If a player’s permission level is set to Play, that player will be able to visit the place regardless of the game’s availability.
If a player’s permission level is set to Edit, that player can modify the game’s contents. However, the player cannot remove thumbnails.
Group games
Group games have the ability to be used by team create. To enable group games to have team create on, simply turn it on/off like shown above, then anyone with the Create and edit group games permission can go into team create, regardless if invited or not.(If it is off, no one else on the team can access it, even though they are in the group. If they try to access it, they will see what it looked like before you edited it.)
