Описание: Roisin Cossar examines how clerics managed efforts to reform their domestic lives in the decades after the Black Death. Despite reformers` desire for clerics to remain celibate, clerical households resembled those of the laity, and priests` lives included apprenticeships in youth, fatherhood in middle age, and reliance on their families in old age.

In Being in Your Body, author Fariha R is n prompts you to explore a new language for thinking about your physical self. Addressing concepts like «compare and despair» and the false connection between thinness and happiness, this journal walks you through the process of cultivating confidence in yourself, while advocating for a broader definition of beauty for all. It features sumptuous illustrations throughout and quotes contributed by a diverse array of body positive advocates, writers, and influencers, including Amanda de Cadnet, Alok Vaid Menon, Safia Elhillo, Vivek Shraya, and Jenna Wortham.

Arguing that the demographic shift to settler colonies in Canada, Australia, New Zealand was supported and underpinned by a vast outpouring of text, this monograph brings printed emigrants’ letters, manuscript shipboard newspapers and settler fiction into conversation with the works of Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, Catherine Helen Spence and Ford Madox Brown, amongst others. The monograph demonstrates how the textual cultures of settler emigration pervaded the nineteenth-century cultural imagination and provided authors and artists with a means of interrogating representations of space and place, home-making and colonial encounters. Описание: Vegetables are important part of food for all. Any contamination in vegetables would ultimately risk human life. The present study was conducted to evaluate the sewage water’s impact on soil and vegetables quality with respect to heavy metals in Lahore, Pakistan. Twenty five samples each of water, soil and vegetables leaves and edible portions were collected from 25 diverse localities around Lahore city. Water from River Ravi, polluted with sewage or waste water, was being used as irrigation source in these localities. The water and soil samples were analyzed for pH, EC and heavy metals (Lead). Some water samples had EC beyond the safe limit. The concentrations of Pb were found in toxic range. Almost all the soil samples had the heavy metals above the safe limit. The Di-ethylene Tri-amine Penta-acetic Acid (DTPA) extract-able Pb of soil had non-significant correlation with that of the irrigation water. Pb was exceeding the safe limit in the leaves samples. The concentration of Pb in edible portions was also above the safe limit. The results indicated that the vegetables tested were not safe for human use, especially those directly consumed by human beings.

Following in the footsteps of such category killers as Milk and Honey and Whiskey Words & a Shovel I, Fariha Róisín’s poetry book is a collection of her thoughts as a young, queer, Muslim femme navigating the difficulties of her intersectionality. Simultaneously, this compilation unpacks the contentious relationship that exists between Róisín and her mother, her platonic and romantic heartbreaks, and the cognitive dissonance felt as a result of being so divided among her broad spectrum of identities.

I cannot rate someone’s life experiences, but I can rate their poetic language, arrangement, sensitivity, since all of them are publicly open.. and all that didn’t work out for me. The language was foul at times and it took out the sensitivity it was meant to express. However, I felt the rage and grief those words tried to transmit. They reached me, but not in the way I expected them to. I can only hope the author was able to forgive those who wronged her and heal her generational trauma.

It always feels weird to rate a book like this, so personal. The author speaks about her own experiences, and I feel I have no right to say if they deserve a three, four, five, star rating. I can’t rate a life, and although I understood and resonated with some of the poems, or some bits of them, they don’t speak about my own experiences.
I can say, however, that the poems encapsulate her feelings in a gut-twisting way. While reading, you can feel her pain, her hurting and grief. I found I was not able to put this book down when I found it in a bookshop earlier this week. Fariha Roisin’s words combined with gorgeous detail by Monica Ramos and design by Diane Shaw is eye-catching and demands to be heard.
Roisin writes about identity, about trauma, and about finding the balance of yourself between the elements of family and culture. I found her writing to be raw, but also soft enough to gently draw out the words into a series of beautiful poems. That said I enjoyed this collection.

Penguin Books was founded in 1935 by Sir Allen Lane, as a line of publishers The Bodley Head, only becoming a separate company the following year. Penguin revolutionised publishing in the 1930s through its high quality, inexpensive paperbacks, sold through Woolworths and other high street stores for sixpence. Penguin’s success demonstrated that large audiences existed for serious books. Penguin also had a significant impact on public debate in Britain, through its books on politics, the arts, and science.
Penguin Books is now an imprint of the worldwide Penguin Random House, a newly emerging conglomerate which was formed in 2012 by the merger of the two publishers. Formerly Penguin Group was wholly owned by Pearson PLC, the global media company which also own the Financial Times, but it now retains only a minority holding of 47% of the stock against Random House owner Bertelsmann who controls the majority stake.

On Friday, four days before the US presidential election, the United States recorded 100,000 new cases of Covid-19. This figure recorded the highest increase in cases of corona virus in a day worldwide.
In total, the United States has suffered 9 million cases of Covid-19 as of Friday, or nearly 3% of the population with nearly 229,000 deaths since the pandemic outbreak earlier this year, according to a Reuters report, October 31, 1996.
US health authorities on Friday confirmed that 100,233 people have tested positive for Covid-19 over the past 24 hours.
Friday’s tally set the highest daily Covid-19 record in the US for the fifth time in 10 days, surpassing the previous day’s highest daily spike of 91,248 new cases.
The report also represents the world’s highest national daily casualty toll during the pandemic, surpassing India’s record 24-hour spike in daily cases of 97,894 recorded in September.
On Friday dozens of states individually reported a record number of new daily cases.
Serious cases of Covid-19 are also on the rise, as hospitals in six states report having the most patients with the disease since the pandemic began. The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized has increased by more than 50% in October to 46,000, the highest since mid-August.
Among the states hardest hit were the states most contested in the campaign between Republican President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden, namely Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
More than 1,000 people died from the virus on Thursday, the third time the daily death toll has exceeded that this month, and the death rate is expected to continue rising. Covid-19 claimed at least 926 more deaths as of Friday.
The University of Washington’s latest prediction model projects the death toll, which had held at a monthly pace of more than 22,000 for most of October, will start climbing next month towards a new record of more than 72,000 in January.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation’s January projection would surpass the nearly 61,000 deaths in April when the pandemic first exploded in the United States and flooded New York City hospitals.
Joe Biden and his Democrats in Congress have criticized President Trump for handling his health crisis.
In the US House of Representatives, Democrats released a report on Friday condemning the Trump administration’s pandemic response as “one of the worst leadership failures in American history”.
“At least 6 million Americans have fallen into poverty and millions more are unemployed,” the report said.
The 71-page interim report by Democrat staff from the House Election Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis also said investigators identified more than 60 instances in which Trump administration officials rejected or overruled top scientist advice to advance the president’s political interests.
“The government’s response to this economic crisis has benefited large corporations and wealthy Americans, while leaving behind many disadvantaged communities and struggling small businesses,” the report said.
After being hospitalized for Covid-19 in early October, Trump continued a massive campaign that drew thousands of supporters who gathered and many were not wearing masks. The Trump campaign says rallies are safe and that masks and social distancing are respected.
A CNN investigation found that 14 of the 17 states surveyed showed an increase in the rate of Covid-19 cases only one month after hosting a Donald Trump campaign event.
