Doctors hate him for this one neat trick to trim that Zombie fat!
Quite often in Minecraft Survival, players will seek out shelter or residence in Villages. These are often great places to gather supplies, rest, or trade. However, interacting with villagers means Zombie raids might happen, and the friends you made in town might become Zombie Villagers! How do we fix this dilemma?
How to Cure a Zombie Villager in Minecraft
So, you’ve made friends with a Villager, and now they’re a zombie. It happens to the best of us. Or the worst, since you couldn’t protect them (we kid, we kid). Regardless of the circumstance, you want to bring them back to the Villager they used to be. Luckily, there is a fairly straightforward way of doing that.
First, you’ll need two things: a Golden Apple and something to make the Zombie Villager have the Weakness Effect. This can be anything that causes weakness, but in case you’re not sure what that is, you can use the list below.
A normal Golden Apple can be crafted at a Crafting Table and requires 8 x Gold Nuggets placed in the crafting slots around an Apple in the middle slot.
Use your Splash Potion of Weakness (or whichever way you’re causing the Weakness effect) on the Zombie Villager. It will cause the normal effects on the Zombie Villager that it would cause on any other entity affected by it. The important thing to take note of, though, is the visual effects. Make sure grayish-purple particles emanate off of the Zombie Villager, so you know it’s under the Weakness Effect. You can see an example of them in the image on the right above.
While the Zombie Villager has the Weakness Effect, use the Golden Apple on it. You can tell this was successful if the Zombie Villager now has red particles floating around it. The Zombie Villager will not immediately change to a Villager. Instead, it will be given a random time from three to five minutes and transform once that time is up. It will act like a normal Zombie while it’s waiting to change to a Villager.
Congratulations! You just cured Zombie-ism! Maybe now they’ll stop making so many Zombie movies?

Zombies are everywhere in Minecraft. It is likely that they are the hostile mob you will encounter the most in dark tunnels and when walking around outside at night time or in the rain. Zombies have such an impact on the game that they also can affect and take over Villages. Here is how you can create or cure Zombie Villagers in Minecraft.
How to create a Zombie Villager
The difference between a normal Zombie and a Zombie Villager can be seen in their face. If they have the Villager’s face, they can be transformed back into a normal Villager.
To create a Zombie Villager, a Zombie must attack a Villager either in Normal or Hard difficulty; it is impossible on Easy. There is a 50% chance on Normal and a guaranteed transformation on Hard whenever the Zombie hits the Villager. The best way to do this is to go to a Village at night and break the wooden door on a home with Villagers inside.
If you do not want to unleash Zombies on Villagers, there is a 5% chance that a Zombie Villager variant will spawn in the wild when a normal Zombie spawns. There is also a 2% chance that a Village will generate as an Abandoned Village and be filled with Zombie Villagers.
How to cure a Zombie Villager
To cure a Zombie Villager in Minecraft, you will need a Splash Potion of Weakness and a Golden Apple. To make a Golden Apple, you will need to craft it using an Apple and eight Gold Ingots. For the crafting recipe, place the Apple in the middle slot with the Gold Ingots surrounding it.
When you have your items, find a Zombie Villager and trap it somewhere out of the sunlight, or it will catch on fire and die. Throw your Splash Potion of Weakness at it. If you hit it, you will see some gray swirls coming up from it, showing it is affected by Weakness. Before that effect drops, pull out the Golden Apple and give it to them. The swirls will turn red, and they will transform into a Villager in about a minute or two.

It takes a bit of waiting, but once the transformation is complete, you have another Villager to trade with and earn the Zombie Doctor achievement.

Zombie villagers can appear in your world in one of two ways: they can either naturally spawn or they can be created when a zombie attacks a regular villager.
Since it is possible for zombies to infect villagers, it is also possible for you as a player to cure these villagers.

Step-by-Step Guide(with Pictures):
Here is the step-by-step pictorial guide you need to follow to Cure any Zombie Villagers in Minecraft:

Step 2: Craft a Golden Apple
Now that you have your splash potion of weakness, save it. Now, you will need to get a golden apple. This is simply made by surrounding an apple with eight gold ingots. Apples naturally drop from leaves after cutting down a tree.
To get eight gold ingots, you need to go mining. Gold ore will spawn anywhere below the height level 32 and it has a 1:1 ratio of gold ore to gold ingots.
Gold is a great material to have in Minecraft, but it needs to be mined with an iron pickaxe.
To make an iron pickaxe, use the crafting recipe below.
Once you have successfully acquired eight gold ore, you need to smelt them in a furnace.
If you need help creating or using a furnace, check out our other article here.
Now that you have your apple and gold ingots, place them in a crafting table using the same recipe like the one below.
Step 3: Cure a Zombie Villager
Once you have acquired your potion and a golden apple, you need to find a zombie villager.
Once you have found the zombie villager you would like to cure, it might be helpful to trap it in some fences so it cannot escape.
Tip: If you manage to trap your zombie villager in a small space, remember to keep a block over its head to prevent it from burning up in the sun!
The next step is to throw your splash potion of weakness at the zombie villager. This will give it the weakness effect which is indicated by the grey particles.
While the zombie villager has the weakness effect, you need to feed it a golden apple. To do this, right-click the zombie villager with the golden apple in your hand. This will cause the zombie villager to start shaking and it will have dark red particles coming out of it.
This will eventually end with the zombie villager being cured and turning into a normal villager.
As a bonus, the cured villager will offer a large discount on his tradable goods. You can change its profession by swapping out its job block, but you cannot change its profession if the villager has been traded with already.

Q. How long does it take to cure a zombie villager?
A. Once you have given the zombie villager a golden apple, it takes five minutes for the curing process to take effect. During these five minutes, the zombie villager will still behave like a normal zombie.
Q. How to cure a zombie villager without a potion?
A. Currently, in Minecraft, there is only one other way to cure a zombie villager. Zombie villagers need to have the weakness effect to be able to get cured though. To obtain the effect, you need to lure a witch next to the zombie villager. The witch will throw a weakness potion at you but only if you’re already poisoned, slowed, and within three blocks of her. You need to make sure that she throws the weakness potion at you and you need to be close enough for the potion to also hit the zombie villager. This will give the zombie villager the weakness effect and then you can do the normal process of giving it a golden apple.
Conclusion
Congratulations! You have now learned how to cure a zombie villager. This is a helpful skill to know in Minecraft because with this, you can get more villagers in your world to trade emeralds with.

Now, select a Splash Potion of Weakness in your hotbar.
You will want to throw the Splash Potion of Weakness at the zombie villager. The game control to use the splash potion depends on the version of Minecraft:
You should see the splash potion break as it hits the zombie villager and you will see gray particles floating around the zombie villager.
2. Use a Golden Apple
Now that you have weakened the zombie villager, select a golden apple in your hotbar.
The game control to use the golden apple depends on the version of Minecraft:

After about 4 minutes or so, the zombie villager will be cured and turn back into a villager again.
3. Place a Work Table
At this point, the villager does not have a profession, so you will need to place a work table next to the villager (See work tables). In this tutorial, we will place a Blast Furnace next to the villager so that it chooses the profession of Armorer.
4. Villager will offer Discounted Trades
Now you can trade with the villager and it will offer you discounted prices on the trades because you cured it.
In this example, the first trade will cost 9 coal (instead of 15) to buy 1 emerald, and the second trade will only cost 1 emerald (instead of 9) to buy an iron chestplate.

But, when your own workers turn into zombie villagers, it can be incredibly annoying. This can happen when regular zombies attack your villagers, and your difficulty settings influence how often the zombification will occur.
Those playing on Hard may see every villager killed by a zombie turn into one of the undead, while on Easy, this never happens. However, even if you’re playing on Easy, zombie villagers still roam the wild, waiting for you to encounter them.
If you want to bring your villagers back to their regular state and return to business-as-usual, there’s a simple solution that works on all platforms.

How to Cure a Zombie Villager in Minecraft on 1.14
Minecraft Java Edition 1.14 was a significant update to the game, but the basic mechanics of curing zombie villagers remain the same:
Regarding zombie villagers, there were some changes introduced with the update.
The 1.14 update had a strong focus on villages. Since its introduction, you could encounter a single zombie villager instead of finding them in larger numbers in zombie villages or mobs. Update 1.14 also expanded the biomes where zombie villages may spawn, adding the snowy tundra variant and updating plains, desert, savanna, and taiga villages.
Since the update, cured villagers retain their trade when returned to their standard form. As an unpleasant surprise, villagers hurt by zombies can now turn into Iron golems even if they survive the attack.
How to Cure a Zombie Villager in Minecraft on 1.15
Java Edition 1.15 kept most of the same features from the previous edition. The solution to curing zombie villagers is the same as it was before in 1.14. It involves equipping and throwing the splash potion and equipping and using the golden apple on the villager.
The update improved many issues and fixed plenty of bugs that troubled players.
When it comes to zombie villagers, they now drop any items they’ve previously picked up. The feature was always intended to work this way, but for some reason, the picked-up items didn’t drop once the villager was cured.
Additionally, the 1.15 update resolved some purely visual issues like seeing a hand animation while treating villagers.
How to Cure a Zombie Villager in Minecraft on Bedrock
The Bedrock Edition is a family of editions covering all major gaming platforms.
Despite the new name, curing zombie villagers involve the same steps as previous versions. You’ll need to throw a splash potion and then use the golden apple on the zombie villager.
Several changes to their behavior and inventory were included in Bedrock.
Since Update 0.16, zombie villagers can drop their weapons, but only if they’re holding them. Update 1.0 introduced a convenient mechanic, adding a Cure button. The button appears when you hit a zombie villager with a potion of Weakness and approach them holding a golden apple. This doesn’t fundamentally change how you cure villagers, but it makes the process somewhat more straightforward.
After Update 1.2, you can also multiply zombie villagers through their own spawn eggs if that’s something you want to do.
Finally, the Bedrock Edition included a feature that started as a Bedrock exclusive. It replaced zombie villager Steve’s clothes with Villager’s clothes. But this feature is no longer exclusive to Bedrock as of the 1.9 update.
