This guide intents to explain clearly how to customize and perfect your Steam profile from scratch. We will be going through every profile showcase available currently on Steam in order to make the most out of each one to get a unique profile.

Why will I want to customize my Steam profile?
Many times, having a profile that shows that you’ve spent effort and time customizing it, makes it look life a much more professional and trust worthy profile. If you want to get into item trading, or any similar activity that requires you to have a certain reputation, a customized profile usually gives much more peace of mind for the one visiting it, since it makes you look like a much more experienced and reputable user.

Does it cost any money?
Customizing the profile by itself does not cost any money, nontheless, you will need to spend some money leveling up your Steam profile in order to enable showcase boxes. Every 10 levels, Steam awards you with, amog other things, one showcase slot that you can use to select any of the 15 available sowcases. Leveling up on Steam is possible by crafting badges collecting all the trading cards from a certain game. For more info on leveling up on Steam, here are 2 usefull guides by A:

After getting to level 10 or higher on Steam, you can go to edit profile and scroll to the bottom untill you see the «Featured Showcase» area. You can choose the showcase you want, and then click «Save Changes». This will be usefull for the rest of the guide:

The first thing you get to customize even without any Steam level are the profile bio, the avatar picture and the profile background. This is the very first contact with profile customization, and it will help to set your profile’s theme.

The Background
Keep in mind that the profile background is the most important piece of this section. This will set your profile’s theme that you will try to keep consistent throughout the entire profile. there are 2 ways of getting profile backgrounds: you can either use one of the backgrounds you get when crafting a badge, or you can also buy them from the Steam Marketplace. The second option is the seconf option being the mose recommendable in order to find the exact color and theme you are looking for your profile.

Here you will find a Background Gallery [steam.tools] with all the Steam profile backgrounds, and you can even filter them to find the one you are looking for. It also shows you the price, which should be fairly cheap to be honest, and lets you purchase the selected background by redirecting you to the Steam Marketplace by clicking the price shown.

The Avatar
Your profile avatar is basic to identify you from the rest and set your personal brand. The best path to take is to create your very own logo or avatar. You can create a simple logo just using your name’s initial letter or an intresting item you like (e.g. I used a CS:GO’s Karambit in mine). Nonetheless, you can also just add a personal picture of yours or a random internet meme. The profile avatar sits a little aside from the rest of the profile sometimes, you often see the avatar by itself in-games or in leaderboards, so it’s understandable that it does’nt allways align perfectly with the profile’s theme.

The Bio
Your profile bio is basic in order to present yourself and communicate what are your intentions on the platform. You get to select a country of origin if you want to, as well as your real name which is optional as well. Then, you get a text box to describe yourself or add important links to your profile. When writing your bio, you probably wont reach a text limit as you don’t usually write much there, but you have to keep in mind that only the first 3 lines will be visible right away on your profile, the rest will only be visible after clicking the «View more info» button.

The artowrk showcase is by far the most common way to start with your profile customization, It makes it possible so you can integrate better your background into your profile, since the stock profile covers most of the background. Keep in mind that from now on, you will need at least Steam level 10 to keep going.

To start, you need to have a background already chosen and purchased to use in your account. Once you do that follow this steps:

1) Look for the profile on your steam inventory and click «View Full Size»:

3) Once you get the images, you can do with them what you chose. You can either add static text and overlay images to it, ot you can also add animated items to make your profile more vivid:

If you want some templates to add animated text and effects to your artwork, i’ll recommend you Ppleater’s YouTube Channel, where you will find lots of templates as well as in-deph tutorials on how to edit and render you artwork.

Now that you have your static or animated artwork, you have to upload it to Steam in order to be able to showcase it on your profile.

1) On a web browser (Not on the Steam Desktop App) go to your Steam profile, select «Artwork», and then «Upload Artwork»:

2) Select «Not Game Specific». Add a title, then select the file you previously created (With a limit of 8mb) and tick the «I certify that I created this artwork» box. But DO NOT upload it yet.

3) Before uploading the artowk, you need to enable the long arworks to be able to upload a file that is not 1:1 ratio. If you skip this step, the artowrk wont be aligned with the background properly. Press F12 if on Google Chrome (Or open the inspect element section in any way), and then choose the «Console» tab. Insert the following command and press the Enter key.

Command: document.getElementsByName(«image_width»)[0].value = 1000;document.getElementsByName(«image_height»)[0].value = 1;

Now you can close the console and upload the artwork by clicking «Save and Continue» at the bottom of the site. Repeat this process to upload the center upload, and the side artwork to complete the integrated background look.

Now add the «Artwork Showcase» as explained in the introduction of this guide, and select the uploaded artworks to display. This is how it should look:

Other than your «Artowork Showcase», there are two more slots you can use to display your artworks to integrate even more your profile to your theme. You can either use the «Screenshot Showcase», you can also use the «Your Workshop Showcase», or you can even use both!

In order to include a custom artwork into your screenshot showcase, either static or animated, you need to follow this steps:

1) Go to your Steam profile on a web browser (Not on the Steam Desktop App), select «Artwork», and then «Upload Artwork» (Yes, artwork, not screenshots):

2) Select «Not Game Specific», then add a title and select the desired file (With an 8mb max) and tick the «I certify that I created this artwork» box. DO NOT upload it as if for now.

3) In order to trick Steam into thinking that we are uploading a screenshot, we need to press F12 if your working with Google Chrome (Or open the inspect element section in any way), then click on the «Console» tab. Insert the following command and press the Enter key:

Command: document.getElementsByName(«file_type»)[0].value = 5;

Now close the console and click «Save and Continue» at the bottom. This will be your main screenshot in the showcase, you can add 3 more to use as side screenshots which will appear much smaller to the right of the main one.

In the screenshot showcase, when openin the screenshot browser, you will see the most recent files being the artworks you just uploaded. If the preview doesn’t load properly, choose them anyways, they will show correctly in your profile.

The «Your Workshop Showcase» lets you add up to 5 items to display. To get templates and ideas you can visit this Free Workshop Showcase Templates Pack collected by Aevoa.

To upload custom static or animated artworks to Workshop section, follow this steps:

1) Using a web browser (Not on the Steam Desktop App) visit this Workshop Upload site.

2) Add a title and select the file you want to upload (There is a 2mb limit), then tick the «I agree to the Steam Subscriber Agreement» box. DO NOT upload the artwork yet.

3) To make Steam let us upload this files as Workshop, press F12 on Google Chrome (Or just open the inspect element section in any web browser), and click on the «Console» tab. Then paste the following command and press the Enter key:

Now close the console and click «Save and Continue» at the bottom. Remember that you can showcase up to 5 items, so you can get creative.

4) In the screenshot showcase, when opening the screenshot browser, you will see the most recent files being the artworks you just uploaded. If the preview doesn’t load properly, choose them anyways, they will show correctly in your profile.

The custom info box is an empty canvas for you to write whatever you find interesting or useful for those visiting your profile.

You can start be choosing a title for your info box, which will be displayed with the H1 formatting type, in other words, in blue and big font.

When writing the content, you can organize better the text by using the text formatting. When editing the info box, you can click on «Formatting Help» to get a list of all formatting markup tags; or you can also access that list here.

You can also use your custom info box to make an emoticon artwork. To do this, you will need to purchase all the emojis you think you will need to turn an existing imago into emoticons, or to create your own artwork from a black canvas.

2) Now, when all your emoticons have loaded, you can chose if you want to upload a picture to convert into emoticons, or you can start from an empty canvas:

3) Once you are happy with your artwork, you can click «Export»:

Copy the generated text and paste it into the custom text box. You should end up with the exact same artwork that you created into the website. If something is missaligned, try to delete and copy again the whole generated text.

Both of this showcase items allow you to select some intresting or rare items you own in any game, as long as it is stored in your Steam inventory, not in an in-game inventory. There are two ways of displaying this items, via the «Item Showcase», or via the «Items Up For Trande» showcase.

This showcase is pretty straight forward. You can select up to 10 items (Either 10 different items, or you can also display the same item more than once if you want to). Other than the item shown, this showcase will display the amount of total items you own.

The «Items Up For Trade» showcase is similar to the «Item Showcase», the difference being that it limits the displayed items to 6, and it also adds a custom info box attached below, intended to give information related to the items you are displaying. This info box does not allow all the formatting techniques that are available in the «Custom Info Box» showcase shown before. In addition of displaying the amount of items owned, it also shows the number of trades made as well as the number of market transactions made.

The «Achievement Showcase» can be used to display a 7 letter word or 7 symbols obtainable through some games that contain achievements that make this possible. In addition to the 7 achievements you can display, it also shows the total number of achievements that you’ve got, the number or perfect games you have (Games with 100% of achievements), and the average game completion rate:

To get this kind of achievements, there is a wide variety of games for very little money that have different styles of letters and include different symbols and signs that might be useful for your profile. Here you can check a List of games with letter achievements created by Echo, to purchase and include in your profile. Know that once purchased the game, obviously, all achievements are free. It is a one-time payment.

From this point on, this showcases are no longer too customizable to fit a specific theme, you can only add them and use them to display what they are actually ment to display. For the «Badge Collector» and the «Game Collector» showcases however, there are still some things you can customize.

This showcase allows you to display 4 game or DLC banners of your liking. Just as the «Item Showcase», you can either choose 4 different games or banners, or repeat a one more than once. If you want to keep up with the profile theme, you could look for a game with a banner that suits your color scheme, but it may be hard to find.

The Badge Collector showcase however, is more customizable. This showcase allows you to display 6 of your crafted badges, as well as the number of badges erned, and the amount of game cards you own. The badges can be sorted by rarity, how recent are they, random, or they can be chosen manually. You can look for the specific badges you want to dislpay in this sorted collection of Steam badges made by epic and Melody.

This group contain showcases that are not very customizable. This showcases have no way to customize them to fit in with any profile theme or to match your background, other than a game banner or group/guide icon.

In this showcase you can only select a review you’ve made to any app or game, and showcase it on your profile.

The «Favorite Game» showcase allows you to select one game of yours, showing with it your play time and yourachievement progress in that game. It also displays the badge of the game if you have one, and your community actions involving the selected game (e.g. number of videos, number of screenshots, if you have a review, etc.)

Then you select the «Favorite Group» showcase, you can choose one of the groups you are part of and display it on your profile. It shows the group’s name, icon, total members, in-game members, online members and members in chat. You can join my Steam group here.

There are three main reasons which demonstrate the importance of level.

First being a higher profile typically shows you care about your account and you want to appear at the top of your friends list.

Second being a higher profile comes with more legitimacy and is typically seen to be more legit. For example, a scammer isn’t gonna be level 50 (most of them) because they don’t want to be banned with that much time or money invested into their account.

Third being respect. When someone is for example level 100 you’ll typically see that they have tons of comments saying «Happy Christmas» or «+rep Nice guy». A prime example of my point is PalmDesert who has 5,500+ comments.

This section will show you the best ways to use showcases.

For starters the artwork showcase below allows you to display four pictures, one large picture(506×506) and three small pictures (100×80) without using any glitches to have larger boxes. Below is a template.

Here’s a guide containing all the mock ups that one would need in making their profile:

Screenshot showcases are typically used to show off in-game pictures of cool/interesting moments. However, you can upload custom images through a loop hole in the uploading system. If you wish to know how to do so, please read the section called ‘Animated/Custom Screenshots’.

Also below is the dimensions for the screenshot showcase.

The typical use of a custom info box is to simply put in links which could be to your Facebook or Youtube channel for example. However, many do not know how to make text bold or unlined within the custom info boxes. If you wish to know how to do so then click the sub-section called ‘Editing Text’. Now back to the topic, I personally use my custom info box to list of my favorite shows and games and my MAL account. For example, here is my current custom info box.

It’s hard to say what you should put in your custom info box however, below is some inspiration for what you could do.

It may seem that I would show you how to make animated artwork however it’s a lot harder then you may think.

A close friend called snaws makes animated artwork including mine and he is an animator. Below are examples of his work.

The trick around this is rather simple actually, rather than making a list will make a fake list. For example:

This simple way around is just using the list character: ‘•’.
So all you have to do is just paste this at the beginning of each line to your list and thats all, your fake list looks like a real list.

When I say how to make transparent showcases I mean it lightly due to the fact that were not actually making transparent showcases. For example, if I just put a transparent image in my artwork showcase it would look like steam’s client background rather then the actual background; This is due to the showcase carrying a frame with it.

Now to gather the pieces of your background will need to go to a website called sapic.github [sapic.github.io] which was made by TrueCarry.

Next, will click the login button at the top right of the page.

Then will click login again. Now you will recieve a warning saying that this is a non-official Valve website; However, all that is happening is safe data from your account (eg Steam Level).

Next, will choose the background we want. Please remember you must own the steam background in your steam inventory.

Below are all the text formatting which steam offers. This can be used really anywhere for example, guides, comments, reviews and etc.

This section will show you how to have custom text in for example your description box or anything of that sort.

Once there, you’ll be able to choose letters with different fonts to form a word. Finally, just copy (ctrl + c) that text and paste (ctrl + v) it anywhere.

In addition, you’re able to select from a huge variety of symbols and icons. This tab can be found to the right of the letters tab.

Next write you wanted text into the input box, select the font style and it will be outputted in the output box.

I’ve recieved this question many times on how to make spacing in my profile summary or any other steam text areas.

To do so, all you have to do is this:

-Hold ALT
Type in on your numpad (make sure numlock is on)
-0160

In short terms:
Hold Alt whilst typing 0160 on your numpad.

Once typing in this on your numpad, wait about 0.5 seconds and it should appear looking like a normal space.

Then just copy and paste the invisible character until your text is in the middle.

Some people have trouble with method one, this is another method in which you can get the invisible character.

Firstly, go to the Windows search box in the bottom right and type in characters. Then select the first option.

Then click on advance view, type in 2006 in the unicode box. Select the invisible character above, then finally click the select button and just copy and paste whats in the output box.

If I did for example:

[h1] Invisible characters behind tags[/h1]

Then your text will not be spaced, the tags will force your H1 text to move to the left as far as it can go.

To prevent this is quite simple.

All you have to do is put your invisible characters within the tags like so:

[h1] Invisible characters inside tags[/h1]

How to customize steam profile

I know this might help some people out so I figured why not make a guide! These are a few ways to make your steam profile WAY more personal and cool. You can customize it in many different ways!

There are 2 ways to make your artwork blend into your profile and your background
— You can make one yourself
— You can download templates HERE [deviantart.com] You will still need the same background as the template!

Doing it by yourself:
Go to this website and add your background you’ll be using and it’ll automatically crop out everything you need!

Once you have obtained your wicked blank emote/background go ahead and place those in the item slots that are not being used. If you upgrade your item showcase in the » Steam Points Shop » you can add 2 more layers to the item showcase and do some cool things like shown above!

You’ll need achievements that either are cool looking, or have letters and numbers in them. The easiest game to buy to get OVER 3000 achievements such as, ABC. 123. Icons, etc is a little. how do I put this. um. s p i c y

How to customize steam profile

This guide is for those who already have a customized Steam profile but are looking to improve it even more to achieve an exceptional Steam profile that is admired by the community and inspires others to do the same. This means you would already at least have an artwork and some other showcases.

If you are completely new to Steam profile decoration, this might be too advanced for you. You can add some showcases and test around with your profile for a while before you come back to try these out.

I only cover the most important showcases that are being used for Steam profile decoration so showcases such as game reviews are not being mentioned in this guide, but those can be used nonetheless, as long as they suit your theme.

Note: this guide will be constantly updated with new information so if you have any recommendations, leave them in the comment section below.

The following guide contains some of the best profiles users have on Steam. Each of them can be considered an absolute masterpiece and have inspired many others to improve their profile. You can use those as a benchmark for your own profile and find inspiration. They cover a wide variety of different themes and aspects so you should have no problem finding something for you.

The first step to an exceptional profile is deciding on a theme. This should be done carefully as all the next steps will be based on this. Some users might struggle to find a specific theme. In this case, you can decide on a primary color instead. If you want to have a really advanced profile, you can combine your theme with your primary color, or even have a secondary color.

Having a theme is really important for an exceptional profile. Otherwise your profile will just be a bunch of random showcases that are not related to each other. Once you have decided on your theme, make sure EVERY showcase in your profile stays in conjunction to the theme you chose. This will add consistency and order to your profile and it will not just be a random collection of showcases anymore.

The top section of your profile is very important. It is one of the first things that Steam users notice when they open your profile, so you should put a lot of time in doing this section.

The most important and eye catching part is your profile picture or avatar. It is seen very often; in games, every time you write a comment somewhere etc. Choosing a picture for that is crucial. If you have a character in your avatar, I suggest that the image you chose is a render, and you crop the background out and align it with the Steam background you use in your profile. This will make your avatar look more clean and professional. I have used one of my previous avatars as an example. It is aligned with the background which makes it look like that it is linked with the artwork and profile background.

You can also make something more unique. Treat it the same way as your artwork showcase (just not animated of course) and edit it before uploading it to your profile. A lot of users who like to have a clean and simple profile like to change the background of their avatar to the same color as the top part of a Steam profile and add their logo in there.
Gawrone has improved on that. He added the first part of his name in his avatar while keeping the second part of his name as his alias to create a simple, yet very unique profile picture.

Azu took a very similar approach. She did not only add her logo, but also added a fox character render in a special shape to complement her logo. On the right side of her avatar she has added 3 dots which act as a bullet point for her bibliography. This is truly a special avatar that also matches the avatar of Kaila which is the same just mirrored and the color slightly changed to match the profile.

Once you have finished with your profile picture, the next section is your biography right below your alias or location. This should serve as an introduction or summary of your profile. You can talk about your profile or yourself there or just state some rules, but you should think carefully of what you write there because it is one of the first impressions you give other users before they decide to scroll down more. This can also often be the deciding factor whether other users continue to check out your profile or not. Get creative and make sure it matches your theme.

Having a higher level on Steam means you have spend more money and time into your profile. The higher your level is, the more showcases you can display in your profile so this is very important if you want to decorate your profile. You can also impress others, if your Steam level color matches your profile or theme.

If you need help to find suitable badges to display on your profile, you can check this guide out. It has a huge variety of different badges sorted out for you and it will save you a lot of time to find badges that will match your profiles theme.

A great example is this badge, that matches Gatekeepers alias, and is similar to his skull logo. The only downside is that it is not blue which would make it the perfect badge for his profile.

The following guide contains some badge set examples that you can use for your profile.

The primary group chosen on the side of your profile should be adding to your theme. Some people create a special group just so they can display it there. However, the 2 groups below the primary group cannot be chosen. They are sorted by date created so it is much harder to have them complement your theme, especially if your theme is something really rare or less popular. Nontheless, there are some users who have managed to use those to add to their theme. One example would be Tilt who has a green themed profile, which is complemented by the three groups all with green avatars as seen below.

An artwork or a screenshot is often the very first thing an user sees when they visit your profile. This is due to the fact that it is often the first and most important showcase of a profile. It should match your theme and the background should also be implemented and aligned with your artwork. Most users prefer a long artwork but this does not really matter as long as it is done well. The side artwork should also be animated and the animations of both the main artwork and the side artwork(s) should be aligned.

If you do not know how to make your own artwork, you can hire a designer to do it for you. The following guide consists of the best artworks I have personally seen on Steam.

If you do not know what you want in your artwork, I suggest you to check this guide out that has a huge variety of different artworks from many different sections and styles. It can give you inspirations and ideas for your own artwork.

You should treat this showcase the same as your artwork showcase and you can even implement your background with it. Having an unique workshop showcase that complements your theme makes a profile look so much better and special because not many users utilize it. Many users use one of Azu´s free workshop templates which often are not part of a profiles theme. Although those look very nice and clean, to have an exceptional profile you will need to create your own workshop showcase. You can get very creative with your workshop showcase and I think it is the best showcase available on a Steam profile.

This is one of the biggest and important showcases of a Steam profile. What most users fail to do is to match this showcase with their theme. This can be done in various ways. Special fonts can be used to complement a profiles theme. Special tricks can be used here such as centering your showcases. If you do not know how to center text on Steam, I suggest you check out this guide. I personally think that this is the hardest showcase to get done correctly. The following is an example of a clean and nicely done custom info box showcase.

If you don´t know how to create an emoticon art you can check out gawrone. He makes emoticon art on order and is very good. Be sure to check him out if you want an awesome art.

Do not create guides that are pointless and with no content so just you can display it on your profile.

If you want to utilise your guide showcases, make sure you actually have guides to display, otherwise do not use it. When people click on them and see nothing or useless content, it is pretentious, annoying and makes a bad impression. You can maybe create some guides to display if you have utilised all the other showcases already but do not use the guide showcases unless you actually have content to display.

Once you have finished adding all the showcases, you need to check for consistency. All the showcases should be used in a way that adds to your profiles theme and do not use two similar showcases to display the same thing, e.g. the profile picture. It is often displayed as a group avatar, a guide avatar, or in a workshop showcase. If you do this, the showcases will be wasted as a different showcase can be used to add something new to the profile.

Different showcases can be used in conjunction with each other to create something that only one showcase cannot as displayed by who has combined his items up for trade and item showcase to display the words «Dead and Alive» which would have been too long to be displayed in one showcase.

The following is an extreme example of having everything in the correct place and perfectly consistent as displayed by the lines.

Azu has not only perfectly centered her custom info box, but it is aligned with her biography and artworks to create a complete perfectly aligned profile where nothing is out of place and every showcase is consistent and complement with each other which are often very subtle, e.g. the reverse three crosses (meaning = anti-Christian symbol) in her artworks and the «Χ Ξ Σ» (meaning = 666) in her alias.

Once you reach this point, it means that you have used all your showcases to add to your profile and theme so what else can you do? Is it even possible to improve your profile even more when there are no showcases left to use? The answer is yes. Now, you have to show that you are really interested into your profiles theme as everything from now on depends on you. Each addition now depends on your theme and there are no guidelines or help. Great examples of users adding to their theme are shown below.

Auron has changed his name to match his new profiles theme. The name Auron sounds like it is from a fantasy world which matches his fantasy themed profile very well.

Dark Necron´s group count is always constant at 666 groups, even if he joins new groups on a daily basis, to keep it line with his profiles hell theme.

Mesh had a very similar approach to Dark Necron and kept his level at 666 for a very long time, but unfortunatly I think he accidently leveled up to 667.

Aevoa designed his own Steam background and is one of the few persons with a custom designed background including his own logo. The background color was chosen carefully, so when it overlays with Steam, the new color formed after the overlay is the same as the sidebars appearing in the background with his logo. He has been able to do all this by working with a Steam game developer who agreed to upload this background as part of his game (Important Note: this game developer has hence used Aevoa´s reputation to SCAM many Steam users by promising them custom backgrounds as well and lying to them, which all have been confirmed by Aevoa himself, so do not talk to the game developer about getting a custom background. I will not hold any responsibility if you get scammed).

The cheapest and best way to level up, is to see the list of the cheapest cards, and then buy them. What many level collectors hide from you is there are pages to see the cheapest cards on the steam market

www.steamcardexchange.net is a page which contains in real time the list of the cheapest trading cards on steam, you should go check it

As you realized, you can buy stickers for absurdly cheap prices.

You can always do this, but having a higher level on Steam means you have spend more money and time into your profile. Which will make this task more and more tedious.

Steamrep [steamrep.com] is a page where you can report and find out the reputation of a user or bot it also contains quite good tips to avoid being scammed.

All my life I used bots to level up on my steam profile. When you are high level in steam you are forced to have to use bots to buy cards or it would take hours to want to go up a level, but still be careful with fraudulent exchanges.
