Speaking about a man as an object for drawing we must identify structural parts of the body that perform certain functions. For example, there are parts that are very popular and significant for us, such as our bottom, nose and tongue. They have a lot of functions and always look for adventures. So, today we will draw tongue. Of course, we will not draw it separate from the body, it would look frightening. Let’s draw one of the famous people:
A tongue is one of our organs, flexible and slimy, resembles a salamander hunting in the cave. Our tongue moves thanks to the muscles and intellectual development of the brain. The second is very important as if you have a wish to say something, you will not do it without your tongue.
A tongue is also a method to transfer unnecessary information. This method is widely used among people. It is the fastest healing part of the body, the strongest and the most sensitive muscle of our body.
Let’s draw it now.
How to draw a tongue step by step
Step 1. First we sketch the head of the genius.
Step 2. We show the facial features. We start with eyes, nose and mouth. Don’t forget about the ear and the hair.
Step 3. Now we color the eye pupils, we add moustache and eyebrows.
Step 4. Erase extra lines and do shading.

How to Draw a Mouth and Tongue
Learn how to draw a great looking Mouth and Tongue with easy, step-by-step drawing instructions, and video tutorial. You can now easily create a beautiful Mouth and Tongue drawing.
Experts report that much of human communication in nonverbal. This means that in addition to words, we frequently «talk» with our hands and our faces, in the form of gestures and facial expressions.
Some such communication is almost universal across cultures; others have different meanings in different places.
What might be a friendly greeting in one culture could be an insult in another. Consider one example.
In some places, however, sticking out the tongue conveys a very demeaning message. In fact, in Italy in 2009, an individual was tried and fined for sticking his tongue out at a neighbor during an argument.
Interestingly though, in the region of Tibet, this facial expression is used as a greeting.

In 1970, the famous rock and roll band known as the Rolling Stones adopted the «tongue and lip design» as their logo. The mouth was used to represent the large, «intense» mouth of the band’s lead singer, Mick Jagger.
The extended tongue is said to represent the Hindu goddess Kali, who is sometimes regarded as one of the seven tongues of the fire god Agni.
Why this representation? This «goddess of everlasting energy» is though to «[signify] the use of free expression in their music.»
As you can see, this bodily symbol has a multitude of forms and meanings. Would you like to draw a mouth with its tongue sticking out?
Doing so is simple and easy with the help of this step-by-step drawing tutorial.
You will need only a pencil, a good eraser, and a sheet of paper. You may also wish to use crayons, markers, colored pencils, or paints to shade your finished drawing.

Step by Step Instructions for Drawing a Mouth and Tongue
1. Begin by drawing a long, curved line, roughly in the shape of a rounded letter «M.» This outlines the top of the upper lip.
2. Using another long, curved line, outline the bottom lip, fully enclosing the mouth. Notice the bulges near the corners of the mouth.
3. Within the mouth, draw another curved line that loosely follows the contours of the upper lip. This outlines the bottom side of the lip.
4. Use a long, «U» shaped line to enclose the inner mouth, outlining the top of the lower lip as well. Notice how the corners of the mouth include sharp points.

5. Draw two overlapping curved lines within the open mouth. These lines begin the outline of the tongue.
6. Draw a large «U» shaped line, connecting one side of the tongue to the other. This outlines the extended tongue.
7. Erase the guide lines from the tongue.

8.Sketch in the teeth. To do this, use three lines to enclose a rectangular shape along the bottom of the top lip. Notice that the corners are rounded. Then, draw another rounded rectangular shape next to this one. Continue to add teeth in this way until you reach the side of the mouth.
9. Add depth and texture to the tongue by drawing a curved line down the center. Draw curved lines along the tops of each lip to provide a sense of dimension.
Color Your Mouth and Tongue Drawing
10. Color your lips and tongue. These features are most often depicted in shades of red and pink.

How to Draw Anime Tongue Out Face Step by Step
This tutorial shows how to draw an anime character sticking out their tongue with four different facial expressions.

Often these types of expressions are seen in less serious anime such as comedy/slice of life shows. These shows can also have slightly more stylized (less serious looking) character designs.
The girl in the examples will also be drawn in a more stylized way then some other examples here on AnimeOutline. This means a few of the proportions will be slightly different then in some of the other tutorials.
The four different expression shown in this tutorial are:
Be sure to start the tutorial in pencil and draw light lines as you will need to erase parts of the head after adding the hair. You can darken your lines later by tracing over them.
How to Draw Focused/Sly Tongue Out Anime Expression
This first expression is with the tongue sticking upwards and to one side of the mouth. It can be used to show a “sly” or “creative” face of a character that is focused on doing something like writing or drawing.
Step 1 – Draw the Outlines of the Facial Features
Draw the head and the proportions of the face as shown above. As the focus of this tutorial is mainly on getting the overall expressions that show the tongue it won’t go into too much detail on drawing each of the facial features.

For this expression draw one eye lightly squinted with the other one closed. Draw the eyebrows with the one above the open eye in pretty much in it’s natural state and the one above the closed eye lower down in a bit of “wave” like shape. Draw the mouth smiling and make it wider on the side where the tongue is sticking out.
It’s important to note that while technically you always need to open your mouth to stick your out tongue these are stylized anime characters. This means that if the mouth is open just a bit you can draw the jaw in the same position as for a closed mouth.
Step 2 – Place the Ears
Position the ears as shown in the example above.
Step 3 – Clean up the Drawing
Once done with the basic outlines of the facial features you should have a clean drawing similar to the example above.
Step 4 – Add the Small Details
Add the smaller details of the facial features. In this case those will be inner parts of the eye as well as a hint of the eyelids (added between the eyes and the eyebrows).
There is no need to draw any of the inner details of the ears as they will be almost fully covered by the hair.
Step 5 – Draw the Hair
Add the hair over top of the outline of the head. The method used for drawing the hair is to split it into three parts. The front, sides and back/top shown in different colors in the example above.
Start with the front, then add the sides and finally the back/top.

Step 6 – Finish the Drawing
Once you finish the line drawing you can erase any parts of the head that are covered by the hair. You can also trace over your lines with a darker pencil stroke or a black pen/marker.
Next fill in the the eyebrows, eyelashes, outline of the eye and pupil with black or very dark pencil shading. You can add the a hint of individual lashes to the eyelashes as you shade.
Afterwards darken the hair, open eye and tongue. Shade the upper part of the eye and the inner part of the hair slightly darker than the rest.
How to Draw Upset Teasing Tongue Out Anime Expression
This expression is of an unhappy/upset teasing face.
Step 1 – Draw the Outlines of the Facial Features
Draw the head and position the facial features as shown above. You can again see the links in the first example for more information on drawing the individual facial features.
For this expression draw both of the eyes close with the eyebrows lowered and in “wave like” shapes.
Draw the mouth with a frown in an upside down curve (opposite of a smile) with the tongue sticking out downwards.
Step 2 – Place the Ears
Add the ears as shown in the example above.
Step 3 – Clean up the Drawing
Once done adding the facial features make sure you have a clean outline drawing similar to the example above before moving on to the next step.
Step 4 – Add the Small Details
Add the smaller details of the face which in this case will be just a hint of the eyelids and the split in the tongue.
Step 5 – Draw the Hair
Add the hair over top of the head as shown above. First draw the front section (red), next draw the sides (green) and finally the top/back (blue).
You can again refer to the tutorial linked in the first example for more information on drawing it.
Step 6 – Finish the Drawing
Erase the parts of the head covered by the hair. Next you can darken your lines by tracing over them with either a darker pencil stroke or a black pen/marker. After that fill in the eyelashes/eyebrows with black (or dark pencil shading). You can also add hints of the individual eyelashes as you add the black fill/dark shading.
To finish the drawing shade in the tongue and hair. Shade the inner/bottom part of the hair slightly darker than the rest.
How to Draw Playful Teasing Tongue Out Anime Expression
This expression is of a happy/playful teasing face.
Step 1 – Draw the Outlines of the Facial Features
Draw the head and proportion the face as shown in the example above. If you need to you can again refer to the links in the first example of the tutorial for more information on drawing various anime facial features.
For this expression draw the eyes closed with the eyebrows raised. Draw the mouth with a wave like shape (looking a bit like a cat’s mouth) and the tongue sticking out downwards.
Step 2 – Place the Ears
Position the ears as shown in the example.
Step 3 – Clean up the Drawing
Once you finish placing all of the facial features make sure you have a nice and clean drawing similar to the example above before moving on to the next step.
Step 4 – Add the Small Details
Add some of the smaller details of the face such as a hint of the eyelids and the split in the tongue.
Step 5 – Draw the Hair
Draw the hair as shown in the example above. Start with the front section (red), add the sides (green) and finish with the top/back section (blue).
You can again refer to the link in the first example for more information on drawing it.
Step 6 – Finish the Drawing
Erase the parts of the head covered by the hair and darken your lines by going over them with a darker pencil stroke or a black pen/marker.
Fill in the eyelashes and eyebrows with a either black or dark pencil shading and add hints of the individual lashes as you shade.
Finally shade in the tongue and hair. Make the inner/bottom portion of the hair slightly darker than the rest.
How to Draw Open Mouth Tongue Out Anime Expression
To be more precise this one is not really an “expression” but more of a character just opening their mouth and sticking their tongue out.
Step 1 – Draw the Outlines of the Facial Features
Add the facial features as shown above.
You will notice for this particular example the jaw is drawn a little farther down as the mouth is open wider than in the other examples.
Draw the eyes with their bottom eyelids slightly raised as compared to a normal. Draw the eyebrows in their natural/relaxed state.
Make the mouth open with the tongue sticking out downwards. You can also draw a tiny curve at the upper part of the mouth to give a hint of the top row of teeth.
Step 2 – Place the Ears
Place the ears as shown above.
Step 3 – Clean up the Drawing
Once done drawing the head and placing the facial features make sure you have a drawing similar to the above examples and move on to the next step.
Step 4 – Add the Small Details
Draw the inner details of the eyes and then add a hint of the eyelids between them and the eyebrows. You can also add a small line to show the split of the tongue.
Step 5 – Draw the Hair
Add the hair over top of the head as shown in the example. You can again draw it starting with the front section (red) then the sides (green) and finally the top/back (blue).
Step 6 – Finish the Drawing
To finish the drawing erase the parts of the head covered by the hair. Next you can darken your lines by tracing over them and fill in the eyebrows, eyelashes, outlines of the eyes and pupils with either black or very dark pencil shading. You can also shade in the mouth, tongue and hair.
Shade the open mouth darker than the tongue and shade the inner/bottom portion of the hair darker than the rest.

In this tutorial, I will show you the technique that I use to represent mouths and lips. I will explain the simplest structures to understand how to draw different shapes and expressions. And finally, I will integrate them into a color illustration.
Note that, in addition to this method, there are many other ways to learn how to draw mouths and lips, but I will explain the method that I have considered to be the most appropriate and easy to understand.
To make the following illustrations, I have used Clip Studio Paint EX, but any other drawing software can be used.
1. How to draw a mouth: Simplified structures
First, let us analyze the mouth without the lips, to better analyze its structure.
To understand the mouth, think about a sphere. The (open) mouth would be half of it. This is a simple exercise that shows that the mouth is not exclusively a straight line when it is closed and a crescent when it is open, but that it has its own volume.
In this example, you can see a mouth in its simplest form without perspective (image 1) and how it can be imagined with ¾ perspective (images 2 and 3).
2. How to draw the mouth: Key elements
Now that we recognize that the mouth has volume, we must also take into account that it also has depth. It is a cavity, and thus it contains important elements that will help us draw the mouth: the teeth, the tongue, and even the gums. You can even go further into other elements such as the uvula, the palate, all the different teeth, the tonsils, etc. But let us focus on those three basic features.
On the left is an example of how the outlined elements that make up the mouth can be represented and on the right, is a more detailed interpretation of them.
3. How to draw lips: Simplified structures
Lips are essential elements that connect to the mouth. To understand them, let’s try to represent them separately from the mouth and in their simplest forms.
In this image, we can see how to draw the lips step by step using rounded, curved, and elongated structures, starting from a straight line and without perspective. Also, keep in mind that the thickness, width, and length of the lips will depend a lot on the type of character we want to design.
If it is difficult for us to imagine the mouth with rounded and curved structures, it is advisable to start by drawing flattened areas (as if it were low poly!).
In this way, we can better grasp which areas have the most volume.
4. Drawing a draft
Key structures
As we have seen in the mouth, there are also key elements on the lips that will help us better understand and design them.
We must study the Cupid’s bow (1), the commissures (or where the top and bottom lips connect) (2), the philtrum (the skin connecting the nose to the mouth) (3), the central tubercles (The bottom of the lip under the cupid’s bow) (4), the upper lip (5), and the lower lip (6).
Varying these elements produces several lip designs.
5. Different shapes of mouths and lips
Making different lips and mouths is a matter of trying variations in the thickness of the lower or upper lips. We can mark the Cupid’s bow, widen or narrow the mouth, etc. It is interesting to keep trying and see what works best for our character.
A small mouth is usually related to a small or shy character, and a large mouth is for more expressive characters. Thin lips may define a masculine character and thick lips a feminine one, although there can always be exceptions.

6. Different shapes of lips and mouths on the same face
Knowing that we can vary the size of the mouth and lips, it is interesting to try different modifications on the same character, to see which one fits better.
7. Expressions and emotions through lips and mouths
There are many important elements on a face that help define expressions. Together with other elements such as the eyes, eyebrows, the mouth and lips are key elements that build different expressions,
Take into account which areas of the mouth must be modified to represent one expression or another; to convey joy, the corners rise, to convey sadness, we draw them lower than usual. To convey anger, we show an open mouth (screaming) complete with teeth and gums.
The lips can help transmit different expressions and emotions: challenging, fearful, sensual, etc. The next image shows some examples of expressive mouths and lips:
8. Different styles to draw mouths and lips
Once we know the basics, it is time to draw them in different styles to see which one we feel the most comfortable with. In the following image, I wanted to show manga, realistic, cartoon, Disney, and my own style.
9. Mouth and lips integrated into an illustration
Finally, I would like to show the process of drawing a face from sketch to the final color. I wanted to create a slight expression and keep the image dynamic while trying to get out of my comfort zone. It is fun and beneficial to design characters with exaggerated and/or marked expressions.

How to Draw Anime and Manga Mouth Expressions
This tutorial shows how to draw anime and manga style mouth expressions from the front view with a total of 15 illustrated examples.

If drawn correctly mouths can really help convey a subject’s mood. They are also the facial feature that can change the most due to a particular expression.

While generally anime and manga style mouths are fairly simple sometimes they can also be a bit tricky to draw as you have to keep a balance between showing the right emotion and maintaining the style. To help this tutorial provides examples of some of the more common mouth expressions seen in anime and manga and explains the specifics of drawing them.

How to Draw Anime & Manga Mouths on the Head
To get the placement of an anime mouth on the head you can vertically divide the face up into eight parts and position it just a bit above the first division from the bottom. Of course you don’t need to do this every time you draw as usually you can just estimate the placement.
When drawing the whole face you can place the mouth just a bit above the halfway point between the lower part of the nose and the bottom of the chin.
The position of the mouth can somewhat shift based on the expression but generally for a closed mouth it will be close to the example above.

How to Draw an Open Anime & Manga Mouths on the Head
For an open mouth the jaw can be drawn lower down. Tough in some more stylized characters this is not always be the case.
How to Draw a Normal Expression Anime Mouth
This first example is of a mouth in it’s normal/relaxed state.

Draw such a mouth with a light curve and make it fairly small in relation to the head. You can also give it a tiny break in the middle but this can be optional.
How to Draw a Smiling Anime Mouth
This example is of a light smile.

To get this expression draw the mouth wider than the previous example and with it’s corners raised (basically a bigger curve).
How to Draw a Serious Anime Mouth
This type of a mouth can be used for a serious or angry expression.

Draw it pretty much like the upside down flip of the normal expression but with more of a curve in it’s overall shape.
How to Draw a Curious Anime Mouth
This example can be used for a character that has sudden interest in something.

In this case the mouth will be open with the top row of teeth slightly visible.
As the mouth is open you will generally want to draw the jaw lower down (as mentioned earlier).
Draw it somewhat similar in shape to a rectangle with rounded corners but slightly narrower towards the top.
You can shade the inside of the mouth to be fairly dark.
How to Draw a Yelling Anime Mouth
This open/yelling mouth example is slightly more complex than some of the others in this tutorial.

When the mouth is wide open as in this example you will also usually want to draw the jaw even further down than for an expression where it’s open just slightly.

Draw the actual mouth by first outlining it’s overall shape and then add the outlines of the teeth and tongue.
When shading or coloring the inside of the mouth should generally be the darkest with the tongue slightly lighter and the teeth the lightest (usually just white).

How to Draw a Puzzled Anime Mouth
This type of an expression can be used for a character that is confused, thinking or trying to remember something.
Once again as the mouth is open you will generally want to position the jaw lower down when drawing it.
Make the shape of the mouth itself similar to an “O”. You can also add a small curve below it to give a hint of the bottom lip.
Like in the previous example you can again shade the inside of the mouth to be fairly dark.
How to Draw a Smiling Anime Mouth With Teeth Showing
This is another common variation of an anime smile in this case showing the teeth.

This type of a smile can be used for a character that is genuinely happy but it can also often be used as a fake smile or a grin.
Draw this mouth shaped a bit like a flattened water melon slice. You can also add a gap in between it’s two sides on both top and bottom (as is fairly common in the anime style).
You an also give just a hint of the teeth by adding a pair of curves on each side. Try to draw these in a way where if you were to extend them they would eventually meet each other in the middle forming one smooth curve.
How to Draw a Sly Anime Mouth
In addition to showing a sly expression this type of a mouth is also sometimes used to give a character a more cat or animal like appearance.

Draw such a mouth as a wave like shape where it’s raised towards the corners and then again towards the middle. Also try and keep it fairly symmetrical (even on both sides).
How to Draw a Grinning Anime Mouth
This can be used to show a character that has some bad intentions or to simply give them a competitive look.

Draw this expression similar to the smiling mouth but tilted to one end and with the upper lip raised higher up.
To emphasize that this is a grin you can give the hint of teeth on only one side. If you want to make the grin look more malicious you can also give a hint of a sharp tooth.
How to Draw an Upset Anime Mouth
This type of a mouth can be used for an upset or very embarrassed expression.

For this type of an expression you can make the mouth fairly wide and draw it as a series of waves. Unlike the sly mouth this one doesn’t need to be symmetrical.
You can also draw a tiny upside down curve to give a hint of the bottom lip.
How to Draw an Embarrassed Anime Mouth
This is a slightly different version of an embarrassed mouth. In this case it shows more of an surprise. For example the character being caught of guard doing something they don’t want other to see.

This type of an expression can often be followed by the one in the previous example.
Draw this mouth slightly open (position the jaw lower down) and fairly wide. Make it’s bottom a little bit wider than the top.
How to Draw a Creative Anime Mouth
This is is a create expression a character can have when doing something like writing or drawing.

While the mouth will look like it’s closed it will actually need to be slightly open to stick the tongue out in a such a way. For this reason you may want to yet again draw the jaw slightly lower down.
However this is optional for this particular expression even for anime characters that are not very stylized.
Draw the mouth itself as a curve that is tilted to one side with the tongue sticking out to the side of the tilt.
You can also slightly shade or color the tongue to finish.
