Fluffy hair has a touchably soft feel and an undeniable appeal that demands stares. Yet, the look can be notoriously difficult to achieve if you don’t know where to start.

Using the wrong technique could result in flat straight hair, lifeless wavy hair, or poofy, frizzy curls that lack definition. Luckily, there are several ways to get that big hair you’ve been craving.

How to Make Your Hair Fluffy and Create Voluminous Hair

Whether you’ve never attempted to add volume to your hair before or you’ve tried it dozens of times without success, the following tips will teach you how to make your hair fluffy.

Moisturize It Regularly

The difference between fluffy hair and poofy hair is the level of frizziness involved, and the main culprit that causes excessive frizz is dryness. Therefore, hydration is the first step to keep frizz at bay.

To combat dryness, start with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner (here’s one of our favorites) on your wash days. The products you use should have nourishing oils, humectants, and creams.

Follow those up with light leave-in conditioners, hair oils, or hair masks to give your hair the moisture and nutrients it needs to stay smooth and strong.

Be sure to apply them when your hair is still damp. When your hair is wet, its cuticles “open up” (e.g., raise), so your hair can better absorb your products. This tip will also help you avoid “oily hair”. If you consistently struggle with oily hair, read this article to learn more about why your hair is always so oily.

Choose Your Hair Styling Products Carefully

For the fluffiest hair possible, you need to choose the right styling products to keep those curls light. Heavy products will weigh them down, so don’t use anything too thick.

Mousse is a foam, so it is lightweight and airy; depending on the formulation of your specific mousse, it’ll leave your hair bouncy and fluffy. Lightweight gels and styling creams also work well.

No matter which product types you choose (gels, styling creams, mousse, etc.), it’s a good idea to stick to the ones with volumizing properties.

These give your hair a bit more body, which is a must for anyone who wants fluffy curls. There are also many styling products designed for curly hair, so stick with these whenever possible.

Use Your Styling Products Carefully

Having the right products is a good start, but you also need to use them correctly to achieve the perfect hold for those big, fluffy curls.

Lift Your Roots

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

For the fluffiest hair possible, you want to focus mainly on your roots. Lifting this area helps to give your hair the volume it needs.

As well as using those styling products we mentioned above, you can use some other methods to lift your hair as it is drying. This keeps those curls from lying flat against your scalp once they are completely dry.

Duck Bill Clips

One way to give your hair the proper lift is by using some handy hair accessories. Duckbill clips are a great option since you can clip them wherever you like to add some much-needed volume.

Most ladies place them on the roots of the hair at the crown of their head. Be sure to clip these in on their sides rather than flat against your scalp. This method will create a natural lift.

Leave the clips in until your hair is 100% dry, then remove them. Use your fingers to gently massage those roots to loosen up the curls and shape them as you see fit.

Headband or Scrunchie

If you don’t have any duckbill clips on hand, you can use a headband, hair tie, or a large scrunchie to create a ponytail. Tie it as loosely as possible to lift the hair without flattening your curls.

This style/volumizing method is known as a “pineapple.”

Just as you would with duckbill clips, leave the headband or scrunchie in your hair until it is dry. Then remove the accessory, massage your roots, and shape those curls with your fingers.

Drying Your Hair

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

Grabbing a blow dryer and blasting your curls in every direction can ruin their shape, cause a vast amount of frizz and make your hair poofy. That’s why it is best to let your hair air-dry at its own speed.

Not only will you avoid poofy tresses, but this process also keeps your hair in the shape you’ve already created with your styling products without drying out your strands. You can also help maintain their shape by scrunching them upward as they dry for even more curls.

If you can’t wait for your hair to air dry, you can always blow dry your hair. Just be sure to use your diffuser attachment with your hair dryer.

Stick to the lowest heat setting to remove the excess moisture from your hair without ruining those gorgeous curls. Low heat is best to reduce dehydration and limit frizz.

Never Sleep on Wet Hair

Nothing kills volume quicker than sleeping on wet hair. Doing so creates flat spots on whichever side you’re lying on. You’ll end up with thin-looking areas and thick areas that make your hair look like an uneven mess.

That’s why it is best to make sure your hair is as dry as possible before you get into bed for the night. Even lying down on the couch for a few minutes can affect how your hair dries, so try to stay upright as much as possible.

If you notice any flat areas as your hair is drying, scrunch it with your hands to encourage those curls to come back. You can also twist tiny sections around your fingers to create a curl.

Larger sections can be coiled into small buns and held in place using bobby pins. Leave the little buns in place for about 10 minutes, then let those soft ringlets loose.

Spot Treat Your Curls

Once your hair is dry, it should have the volume you’re looking for. Of course, there may be some curls that need a bit of extra help. Focusing on them individually is a must to ensure you achieve a uniform final result.

Take small curls and separate them into even smaller ones using your fingers. Not only does this give you more of those gorgeous curls, but it also adds to the volume of your hair for an even fluffier look.

Do this all over your head wherever larger curls are clumped together. If you have straight hair, you can use a curling iron to create voluminous curls.

Use a Pick

A hair pick can help increase the volume wherever you need it. To use one of these handy tools, lift small sections of hair.

Use the pick on the underside of each section and gently lift in an upward motion. This creates volume beneath the curls, lifting them higher on your head.

Don’t use the pick on the top of the hair or the ends since this will cause an unsightly frizzy mess. You don’t need to tease your entire head, either. Focus on the areas that look limper to even out the shape of your fluffy hair.

To get fluffy hair, you have to combine volume and a natural look while keeping in mind that fluffy hair has a lot of volume with a beautiful finish. Whether you’re a professional hairstylist or a TikTok connoisseur, these hacks will help you achieve just that. Try these:

These are some of the best ways to make your hair look and feel fluffier and softer. And many of these are used by professionals! You can use all or only a few of these methods.

Step 1: Use Hot Rollers

A great way to make your beautiful hair fluffy is to use hot rollers. The best part about hot rollers is they give you curls without using heat! Since they come in many sizes, h ot rollers also work well with short hair. They also prevent your hair from being frizzy instead of fluffy.

If you want to get fluffy and curly hair, you should use thinner rollers. You should wind up at least two layers with the rollers for the best results.

If you want bouncier hair, try using bigger rollers (who ever said size doesn’t matter?). One of the quickest ways to get curly hair is to spray dry hair with a bit of setting spray before rolling them up in the roller of your choosing.

Step 2: Tie Your Hair in a Bun

Tying your hair in a bun is a great way to give your hair volume. Tying up your hair overnight doesn’t require heat or anything else, besides a simple elastic band.

All you need to do is pull your hair into a high (but loose) bun with an elastic band. When your hair dries, it lifts off from your scalp, making your hair softer and more voluminous. You can also use an elastic headband made out of fabric to add volume to your hair.

Step 3: Diffuse Your Hair

A hair diffuser is one of the best things to use to make your hair fluffier. It works by helping you dry and fluffs your hair while speeding up your hair’s drying process. Learn how to diffuse your hair in our complete guide.

Step 4: Back-Comb Your Hair

Back-combing isn’t something you should make a habit of doing, but it can make your hair fluffier. The best way to back-comb your hair is to use a comb with fine but dense teeth. After you finish, comb out your hair gently and slowly.

Step 5: Dye Your Hair

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

Dyeing your hair makes it look much more voluminous. After all, hair dye opens up the cells in your hair. The dye goes into the free space in the follicles, which means that the cells won’t close completely. This makes your hair more filled, and thus fluffier.

Step 6: Blow-Dry Your Hair Upside-Down

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

An upside-down blow-dry is one of the best and easiest ways to make your hair fluffier and voluminous. To do this, wash your hair, apply a styling agent —like foam— at the base of your hair, and then dry it with your blow-dryer.

When you blow-dry your hair upside down, your roots don’t rest on your scalp. Instead, they lift, adding more volume to your hair. Volume and fluffiness go hand in hand, so your hair will also be fluffier. To get the fluffiest results, brush your hair while blow-drying it.

Step 7: Layer Your Hair

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

Getting regularly scheduled haircuts is one of the most important things to do if you want it to be healthy. When your hair is well layered and cut, it will give it a much more voluminous and fluffier look. There are different ways to layer your hair.

You can layer your hair by cutting it with a razor blade —or feather razor— which will make it fluffier. To thin your hair, you need to cut it layer by layer at a precise angle with a special kind of barbed scissors.

You can also “window” your hair. You do this by cutting some thin strands of your hair at different lengths. The shorter strands hold the longer ones up, which makes the hair look more voluminous and fluffier.

Step 8: Use Dry Shampoo

Having dirty hair can make it feel grimy and heavy on your head. The best thing to do to get rid of it is to carry some dry shampoo around. It’ll help you keep your hair volumized and fluffy.

Dry shampoo helps to give your hair that natural, lived-in look you want. It does this by refreshing your hair strands, absorbing the oils in your hair, and volumizing your hair.

Step 9: Use a Hair Iron

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

You can use a hair iron or a curler to make your hair fluffier. The hair iron curls your hair and makes it wavy. Curling your hair makes it look fluffier and more voluminous. Make sure to use protective hair products when you’re using a hair iron to protect your hair from heat damage.

Step 10: Use a Volume-Building Shampoo

Step 11: Tease Your Hair

You can tease your hair by using a big paddle brush to give your hair a soft, fluffy look. The best way to do this is to brush your hair section by section by tying up the upper part and back-brushing the rest of it. For the best results, apply a little bit of hair mousse to each section.

Step 12: Crimp the Roots of Your Hair

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

Make the roots of your hair’s underlayers stand out from your scalp by crimping them. The best thing about crimping is that it takes just a few moments and needs no knowledge, unlike flat irons and curling irons. The crimping is also entirely covered by the top layer of your hair.

Step 13: Use the Right Hair Products

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

To keep your hair fluffy, you’ll want to ensure you’re using the correct styling products. When you want your hair’s natural texture to take center stage, use a product that will make your hair fluffy and volumized.

If you’re working with curly hair, using a lightweight mousse will improve and shape your hair for smooth and bouncy curls. Apply some hair mousse to your damp hair, scrunch it up, and let it air dry to make it fluffy.

Step 14: Use Root-Boosting Products

How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть фото How to make your hair fluffy. Смотреть картинку How to make your hair fluffy. Картинка про How to make your hair fluffy. Фото How to make your hair fluffy

Root-boosting products are your best friends. They give your roots the support and structure for the volume you give the roots of your hair with different styles you try out. They also help your hairstyles last for a full day or even days on end.

The best root-boosting products to use are those that are for fine hair specifically. Root-boosters don’t work when your hair is dry, so make sure you use them on damp hair. For overall thicker hair, we love Folexin.

Fluffy hair is considered to be a style that is the happy medium between a messy texture and a blowout. So, while your strands sport a smooth, shiny, and bouncy appearance, it has a bit of texture for a balanced look.

3. Reach For A Volumizing Hair Care System

One of the worst things that can happen to fluffy hair is product weigh down. To help keep your volumized look intact, it’s always smart to keep a bottle of dry shampoo handy. The L’Oréal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Air Volume Dry Shampoo helps absorb oils, refresh your strands, and pump up the volume to give your hair a lived-in look you desire.

If you love a tinted dry shampoo for your brunette or blonde hair, grab the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Sulfate Free Tinted Dry Shampoo for Brown Hair or the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Sulfate Free Tinted Dry Shampoo for Blonde Hair. 10 ways to get fluffy hair

These proven hairdresser’s tricks will make hair, even thin, delicate, short or long, change into a really rich coiffure.
Incline your head while drying – this is a good and proven way recommended by many hairdressers. It works best with half long and long hair. You must be careful with this method if your hair is very short – drying it this way you will get a crew cut. Just after washing apply foam or some other styling agent at the hair base, lower your head and dry with strong stream of air, directing it against the hair.
Choose shampoos, conditioners and thickening balsams – to make your hair fluffy, start already with proper washing it. Choose shampoos that add volume to a hairdo. During washing ingredients contained in such shampoos „find” weak spots in a hair’s structure and regenerate them. And ceramides thicken the hair’s fabric. Choose a volume increasing conditioner with the rinsing option. Others settle on hair and make strands stick to your head.

Use a diffuser – a diffuser while drying will improve the twist of naturally curly hair and makes hair fluffy. Some hair-driers are supplied with a special type of diffuser i.e. an attachment with thinner and longer plastic spikes, which lifts hair at the base even stronger. Use the diffuser on slightly wet hair after applying a kind of foam that facilitates twisting or makes hair fluffy.
Curling hair with rollers – In order to have curly and fluffy hair, use thin rollers. Minimum two layers should be wound up. When you wish just to bounce hair off your head, use thick rollers. Roll one and a half turn maximum. The fastest way to get rich curls is to splash dry hair with a light hair spray and wind them up on heated hot rollers. Then cool down with cool air blow of the hair-drier, to set the twist. You can get a permanent result if you wind wet strands up, with foam applied, on regular rollers. Dry the strands with a hair dryer or wait until they dry on their own.

Layering and hair thinning – proper hair-cutting is fundamental. Properly layered hair will always arrange ideally making a fluffy hairdo. There are several methods of layering. Thinning consists in trimming hair layers one after another at a proper angle. Special barbed scissors are used for that. Layering with a razor blade or a so-called feather razor makes your hairdo look even more jagged and fluffy. There is also a method called windowing. It consists in cutting thin strands of different lengths, thanks to which shorter strands lift the longer ones that fall onto them.
Fun with colors – strands of hair in different colors make the hairdo’s volume optically look greater. A hair becomes thicker also thanks to dyeing, because during colorization hair shells open up. The dye penetrates the free space and prevents shells from full closure. This way hair gets more filled.
Curler and hair iron – a hair iron curls and waves hair. Thanks to this hair looks fluffier. A twist done with a hair curler will make hair seem there is more of it. Just remember about protective cosmetics while using a curler and a hair iron. As for an airstyler will let you create various curls and waves, depending on the attachment’s size. It can be used on wet or dry hair.
Permanent wave – this is sometimes the only salvage for dry hair. You can choose either a hair twisting perm or a so-called headline, which doesn’t twist but bounces hair off the base, lifting it up. We do perm at the hairdresser’s only. A professional will match an agent adequate for our hair’s condition. You can then be sure that nothing bad will happen to your hair.
Styling cosmetics – they are an invaluable help in fighting for the lion’s mane. The choice is wide. Foams are fundamental – they are to be applied onto slightly wet hair. There are also foams applied only at the hair’s base. Thanks to this hair is strongly lifted off the skin of the head. There are also sprays that activate while drying hair. Hair stiffened this way easily succumbs to modeling which increases its visible volume.

Gels and wax of minimal quantities – as they may weigh down hair. Pastes and rubbers for short hair will be fine, too. Powders increasing volume are something new. They work well, but you must learn how to apply them not to exaggerate.
Back-combing wisely – back-comb single strands where we want them to rise. Do it with a special comb that has dense teeth. At the end of back-combing gently comb out the surface. Too frequent back-combing damages hair. So you must be careful with this trick.
