Bodyslide: Guide and Tutorial

What is «BodySlide»
Bodyslide an application often packaged alongside Caliente’s Beautiful Bodies Enhancer (CBBE). It allows users to customize the bodies of females in Skyrim. CBBE is a Skyrim mod that accomplishes does a number of things, but mostly it:
1. Replaces all the skin textures of the stock NPC models.
2. Replaces the default shape of what female NPCs look like. This goes beyond simply what their skin texture looks like but how large their shoulders, hips, and ‘endowments’ are. And even more importantly this can all be modified in CBBE’s partner program, BodySlide.
At the very top of Bodyslide is the «Outfit/Body» dropdown. You may have hundreds of these if you’ve downloaded a lot of armor/clothing mods from the Nexus. Most importantly each one of these will generate a specific «.nif» file. nif files are specific outfits within the game that will be replaced when you generate a nif file from Bodyslide. Like any other mod, nif files will be outputted to your Data folder in the Skyrim directory and will then replace the corresponding nif file built into the game. «Outfit» should be thought of loosely. It does not mean a specific costume, dress, or armor. It is a 3D model ranging from hands, gloves, shoes, helms, but most commonly armors/body and leg clothes (never faces/heads when it comes to Bodyslide), and most importantly the ‘naked’ body. By default if your character has no armor on they will be given a set of underwear and won’t actually be naked. This ‘.nif’ model (which corresponds to the torso) is called by the vanilla Skyrim game: «femalebody_0.nif» (orfemalebody _1.nif which we’ll get into). Bodyslide, and CBBE by default, let’s you replace this model with a different model by generating a new femalebody_0.nif. This is done by clicking ‘Build’ once you’ve picked an «Outfit/Body» that corresponds to that same model/nif. If you never use the BodySlide, CBBE will replace femalebody_0.nif with the default you picked during its installation.
Sliders and Presets
The «Preview» button helpfully shows you what effect your sliders will have in game. Additionally, it has its own slider at the top that goes from 0-100, representing the gradual change in what the model will look like as the weight changes from 0 to 100. You could actually make a 0 weight character look heavier by simply change the «0» model to have larger proportions than the 100 model.
The sliders you are presented with for each Outfit/Body are custom made by whoever created the uploaded the Outfit. In the standard CBBE mod’s case, Caliente imported the vanilla outfits into a separate sister program called Outfit Studio, which allows creators to make these BodySlide sliders for users to play with. He then built the sliders for each of the proportions in that program.
Groups
Groups are often downloaded in package, but they can also be created via the Group Manager Button. Clicking this will open a window that clearly shows how Groups are defined. Right now everything is greyed out, but click Browse and select CBBE.xml. You should see 2 Groups: CBBE, and CBBE Bodies. Below each you’ll see the Outfits/Bodies that each Group contains. Groups are not mutually exclusively and a single model can be added to many different groups. And in fact in this case, both Groups seem to have the exact same ‘Members’ (‘Members’ are just Outfits/Body that are now in a Group). Why have 2 Groups with the exact members?
The reason is they actually don’t contain the same members. CBBE generates Groupings in the main window based on all the XML files in its folder. If you look in the folder there are usually several XML files, and together the different CBBE subtypes will be more clear (Vanilla Outfits, Dragonborn, etc). As you collect more Models/Outfits they will usually come nicely organized into Groups of their as instructed by the XML files they come with. Models/Outfits that have the same default CBBE sliders will be added to the generic CBBE group AND usually their own Group as well. This accomplishes two things: tells the user that these armor sets use the standard CBBE slider, but also let’s you subgroup them from other CBBE armor sets that have similar nifs.
Back in the main window there is another filter window next to «Group Filter» called «Outfit Filter». This is a simpler but less powerful tool for filtering all the Outfits. It’s simply a keyword search. Here you do want to type in the Outfit you’re looking for. Try Iron, Fur, or Leather. This will filter out all selected Groups that have any of those terms in the name (this would be an «and» function). While this is helpful for quickly searching an armor Grouping is much more powerful when doing Batch jobs which will be explained below. Note you can build Groups from the Outfit Filter by selecting it again after you’ve done a search and creating a Group («Save Outfit list as group»)
Building NIFs/Models
In the above picture after clicking «Batch Build» BodySlide informs me that several of the filtered Outfits are trying to create the same file (femalebody_0.nif). I must pick which model is going to get the Preset to be built into the game.
Like the Build button there is some added functionality with holding CTRL. This time holding CTRL allows you to pick which directory you want the models to be exported to. This can be helpful if you’re finding Mod Organizer isn’t putting them where you think they should be. ALT-Click once again deletes a batch of models (the same ones that are filtered).
Once you’ve learned how to Batch Build you’ve mastered the basics of Bodyslide.
A small note about Build Morphs (the small checkbox at the bottom): This is only used by another mod called RaceMenu to allow you to change body proportion in game without having you constantly build models and relaunch Skyrim until you’re satisfised.
Quick Setup
The above is a very lengthy, detailed explanation of what Bodyslide is an its function. If all you want is to quickly get some new shapes and bodies, the process is simple:
Adding Physics
Once you’re familiar with BodySlide, adding physics to your meshes is the next big step.
Adding physics always requires at least three important additional Mods: XPMSSE, Fores New Idles, and either CBPC or (less likely) HDT-SMP.
What are these and what do they do?
Very Simply: Fores is the main engine that allows almost any model to be animated. It requires a ‘skeleton’ (this is not a literal bony skeleton but an invisible kind of wireframe use for animating) that is then told how to move by other modders. All models have some kind of skeleton, but XPMSSE adds additional ‘skeleton’ bits to different game models that otherwise don’t exist. This could be new limbs, wings, or in our case breasts/butt. Don’t ask why breasts have «bones»! CBPC and HDT-SMP are physics engines that use the skeletons, add weight to them, and make them respond to gravity/movement.
Most of these extra physics packages have their own readmes, descriptions, compatibilities, and Fores New Idles requires the running of an executable. Going over this is beyond the scope of this instruction.

I have been digging for hours and cannot figure this out. No one has an answer that I can understand.
I created slider sets in bodyslide and assigned all of my clothing and armors to them. What I cannot do is figure out how to get those presets into racemenu. I can hit f9 all day, but nothing shows up.
1. what files do i need to locate
2. where do i find those files
3. where do i need to move them to
this is probably some easy stuff for someone out there, but I am at my wits end. Please help
I made a character in Racemenu for CBBE petite.
I then made a bunch of changes.
But, a lot of custom outfits don’t fit properly.
It seems that Bodyslide only allows you to srart with standard presets. so it’s all guesswork.
In preset tab you can export your jslot by saving it.
If using nmm your files will be located in data>skse>plugins>chargen
If using MO, you go inside the “overwrite” folder then look for the save file path as above.
The export process overwrote stuff in Data\Meshes\Actors\Character\Character assets\, which seems to mean it’s going to affect every female body in the game, which was not my intent. I have no idea where it exported the clothing meshes to, just these body files (it did export them somewhere, since I had checked them all on, including for Interactive Armors). This export process did nothing in Data\SKSE\Plugins\CharGen\ at all.
There is a presets tab in RaceMenu, but it’s just for loading/saving jslots. I’ve been scouring the Internet for days and can’t see how you’re supposed to turn the contents of your data\skse\plugins\chargen material exported from Bodyslide into jslot material in the first place.
A thread at https://www.loverslab.com/topic/55337-bodyslideoutfit-studioracemenu/ mentions a tutorial or discussion (mostly about CBBE conversion, but probably relevant) at http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1286275-os-tutorial-anything-to-cbbe-or-cbbe-to-anything/ and another at http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?showtopic=1283893 but both of these are just 404 errors these day.
So, FML. I spent hours building a perfected, all-natural looking body, and can’t use it. Derpty derp.
I had always assumed that hdt didnt require fnis to be run.. but sometimes my hdt physics would be acting out of whack and FNIS running would somehow fix it.. this is the only reason I say this..

BodySlide and Outfit Studio.
Tera.
CBBE Curvy.
How to use bodyslide skyrim
So, I’ve been playing Skyrim for years now and am very familiar with how to run a stable game with hundreds of mods, ENB, etc.
But, for the life of me, I do not know how to add an armor to the game through BodySlide.
Could someone please post a useful link (I’ve seen a lot online and they’re mostly for CBBE and MO) for UUNP body type.
There is no much to say about. You need basicaly 3 things:
— CBBE
— XP32
— Bodyslide
Then you need to find an armor that support cbbe + bodyslide. When you open bodyslide, in the group section you will find your armor, then build the desired preset or use the included ones, you will need then to apply your changes and that’s it. It’s very straight forward.
One thing to pay attention is what version of bodyslide the armor is build for. In previous version there is some missing slides so your armor could look weird.
See bodyslide mod page on nexus for a more detailed explanation, it’s a very good starting point.
Thanks for the answer. But, are you saying that if I use a UNP body instead of CBBE, that bodyslide will not work?
I’ve read tutorial after tutorial and whenever I batch build armors, they never appear in my game. Do I have to add my batch built armors to the Skyrim data files after I create them?
Sorry, I have a lot of questions about this and I can never find the ways to make it work.
It’s very frustrating because even on the BodySlide mod page there are no videos or links that are helpful. They only show how to install BodySlide and how to convert armors.
What I want to know is how to batch build a UNP or UUNP HDT armor set and add it to your character preset in game. It sounds so easy, but no one is willing to talk about it.
you first off are going to need a UNP HDT armor for bodyslide preset from the nexus install it via a mod manager then open it from bodyslide adjust it to your body preset you created earlier for your in game character hit click the box for morph then build.
small cavat, this is approximate. i may or may not have it correct.
I use UUNP HDT
Download XPMS extended,Bodyslide,Textures you want to use, Modded armour or armour sliders.
Install everything.
Open Bodyslide pick the body you want to use from the drop down Outfit/Body pick UNP, then pick a preset, tick the build morphs box next to batch build preview and build. You now have a UNP bodyshape.
In the drop down next to Outfit/Body click the magnifying glass, click choose groups, now all the armour packs you installed will be there tick the boxes click ok. Click Build Morphs then click batch build now all the armor is listed tick them click build.
Done
