It was terrible at least until episode 6-7. From there on out, it’s pure gold.

You can say you liked it all you want, doesnt change the fact that the start is outright horrible for almost everyone who watches it, hell even the fuckign show makes fun of how bad it was at the start in the kintama arc

I think it has more to do with the show actually just got better, Like if you compare the start to later episodes you will note a huge change in creativity, i think it just took sorochi about half a year to realize

but at the start you dont see that creativity or variety, it seemed trapped by its premise on the whole amanto thing trying to fit that into the series, nthat might also explain why the amanto are like hardly in the show after a certian point

well it was watchable. but i didn’t think it as funny as people made it out to be.

I was about to mention the dragonball episode, that episode was a perfect example of how creative the series really gets, like name any other show that can do all that happened in that episode. Nothing, cause nothing has as much creative freedom as gintama does

Like thats why i love it so much, theres so much variety in addition to quality, yah occasionally something kind of off here and there but what works works extremely well. Plus it makes fun of alot of things that deserve it, especially shounen cliches

Oh i notice danother thing about gintama that really makes the show that the start doesnt have, Dramedy, you never know when the show will get really heartwarming and even sad, it could be the dumbest mini arc every then as it goes on it gets more and more serious and somehow pulls it off really well, like the baby arc near ep 50ish. the start of the show just doesnt have that and its not till about the memory loss arc that it starts coming into play.

I watched the «Hijikata going on a quest in space to find the 7 slippery dragonballs to get some cigarettes because it was banned on earth» episodes a couple of episodes ago, crazy shit, really genius.

The drama in Gintama is a hit and miss for me, the episode about Kagura and the new umbrella was really awesome and heartwarming, but the Benizakura and the robot maids arc were just a pain to watch.

(I really like how this thread turned into a gintama appreciation thread lol. I guess I’ll go watch some Gintama, I still got a long way to catch up to the new episodes)

benikazura diidnt have the emotional punch the future arcs have, like if you like the shinsengumi serious stuff then your going to adore everythign past that cause it gets way better than that

The yoshiawa in flames arc is what you are pretty close to that most people consider to be the best arc, i personally think the 4 divas arc(ep 210-215) is the best but regardless it gets better from where you are at both in terms of comedy and serious stuff. Benikazura was good in terms of action and introducing the villains but emotionally wasnt that good.
