Work Text:

The hands around Baek Seongjun’s neck had killed countless people.

Most of them had been executed at a distance, of course. Lee Jinho wasn’t the type to work up a sweat and get his hands dirty when there were plenty of desperate and amoral people willing to do the job for an inconsequential fee. But the amount of pain and suffering carried out on his orders was both immeasurable and undeniable.

And yet, there was Seongjun. Head tilted back, eyes half-closed, letting himself be handled by a man who’d put a knife and a bullet in him once already.

Jinho couldn’t help but smile. He knew he kept this one around for a reason.

He reached over and grabbed a pair of shears from his vanity counter. “It’s been a while since you’ve let me do your hair.”

“I might as well look my best for a special event,” Seongjun replied.

“You have your speech prepared?” Jinho asked, combing a lock of dark hair and trimming the very end.

“Of course. What do you take me for?”

“Easy there. Just making sure.”

The only sound for several minutes was the soft snip of shears. It wasn’t just the haircut; it had been a while since the two had gotten a moment to themselves. The life of a social media star and restaurant owner had Seongjun constantly at work, and Jinho had all sorts of less publicity-friendly business to take care of behind the scenes. While they still met to talk shop, those meetings usually came in the form of dropping by Omakase June and shortly being interrupted by one of the brats Seongjun had taken on for his shell company.

(“Don’t do that shit where people can see,” Seongjun had always grumbled, never actually making an effort to resist him. “I’ll push you overboard.”

“I’d love to see you try,” Jinho had replied. He didn’t worry when Seongjun grabbed his collar and shoved him up against the railing, rusty metal digging into his lower back. All Seongjun did was pin him in place so he could be the one to initiate the next kiss.

It was a treat, to let Seongjun think he was in control. To let him think he’d ever have power over his boss.)

“You’re confident as ever, Mr. Five Million,” Jinho commented, tilting Seongjun’s head this way and that to check his work. “Don’t get too comfortable. K-Star is a big media event. You never know who may try and take you down for their own chance at fifteen minutes.”

In the massive vanity mirror, he could see Seongjun rolling his eyes. “I think I can handle myself.”

The shears snipped closed in Jinho’s hand. In an instant, they were a cold pinprick of metal pressed directly to Seongjun’s throat.

“We haven’t gotten this far by underestimating people, have we, Seongjun?” Jinho’s voice was sickly sweet.

Seongjun met his gaze in the mirror. His Adam’s apple nudged the scissor blades as he swallowed, but he didn’t look fazed.

A sharp poke against Jinho’s stomach made him look down. In Seongjun’s hand was the straight razor Jinho had swore he set out for tonight, but couldn’t find when he went to begin the haircut.

“No,” Seongjun agreed, his camera-friendly smile shining bright. “We haven’t.”

Jinho felt his heart swell with pride. “Good.” He set the shears aside and ran his fingers through Seongjun’s hair, scratching his scalp and fluffing volume into the once-lifeless strands. Once he was satisfied with his work, he bent down and murmured into Seongjun’s ear.

Appearance [ ]

Taehoon has short, light brown hair cut into a mullet with bangs. He is pale skinned with a well built muscular body. His brown eyes are accompanied with long eyelashes and his lips are drawn with a feminine pink tint. He is very tall, with extremely long legs. His fashion style is normally a base of a white t-shirt and black pants, but he often wears a green bomber jacket on top with a skull on the back.

In his flashback Taehoon was shown having bowl cut dark brown hair which he later dyed light brown due to a pivotal incident. He is extremely attractive, even gaining a large female fan following because of his looks.

Personality [ ]

Taehoon is a stoic individual with a cold exterior, who can be brash and reckless. He doesn’t seem to care much about how his actions affect others and shows no hesitation to be violent towards other people, whether they get in his way or not. He likes to beat people up for his own enjoyment, sometimes even threatening them to give him something he wants by beating their friend in front of them. He shows a strong belief that he only needs Taekwondo to beat everyone and dominate the UFC with it. A lot of people dislike Taehoon’s arrogant behavior, which earned him the nickname «Nutjob Taehoon» while he was still signed in Max FC.

He is enthusiastic about his Taekwondo and using his skill sets when fighting, always wanting to be the strongest. Taehoon does not show any interest in school or studying, but he is still highly intelligent, always following his own logic above anything else. He can read people well and has a somewhat strong intuition, which makes him come to correct conclusions, even when he lacks the evidence. Taehoon is also highly perceptive, being able to correctly guess that Ji Yeonwoo is a Kyokushinkai karateka because of visual cues, such as the bruises he got from training, his conditioned knuckles and his extreme physical endurance. He has a good eye when it comes to recognizing people who are trained in martial arts, but he is also very aware of the environment, easily noticing when he is being followed.

Taehoon is an action-oriented person who would rather do whatever he feels like at any given moment than contemplate in his head. His personal value is to do whatever he wants with his life and never let anyone control him. He shows a strong dislike of people who do the opposite and let others control their decisions. Despite not understanding Dowoon and Yeonwoo, who both showed this trait in them, he still wanted to help them. Throughout the series it is shown that he actually cares for the other characters, despite his cold nature. He was introduced as an enemy, however after being defeated by Hobin, he became an ally of his and even trained him in Taekwondo.

History [ ]

Seong Taehoon is the son of ‘Taekwondo legend’, Hansu Seong. Since young, he was considered a prodigy in the sport, having even made an appearance in a KBS show, where he beat ahigh schooler while still in primary school. He was nicknamed ‘spin genius’ because of his talent for executing spinning kicks in a fight.

In the past, Taehoon was even colder than he is now, but he was strongly influenced by Lee Dowoon, a student in his middle school who would never stand up for himself. While Dowoon was being bullied by his classmates for his unique hair color, Taehoon steps in, only to join his classmates as they were targeting him.

Known as the strongest in his middle school, everyone feared him and did as he said. He had been training in Taekwondo since he was young in his father’s dojang, who was a former gold medalist. Seeing his father’s dojang losing members because of the rising popularity of other combat sports in MMA, he started handing out flyers for it in order to try to get more people to be interested. However, Dowoon was the only one that joined. [5]

Taehoon’s father would encourage him to get along with Dowoon and teach him, however Taehoon couldn’t understand Dowoon and showed a strong dislike of his behavior. Dowoon, in contrast of Taehoon, always acted on other people’s wishes and did whatever his father told him to. This constantly frustrated Taehoon, to the point of even wanting to help him gain some independence.

Taehoon’s classmates were fed up of his violent behavior towards them, so they paid the leader of a biker gang, Jeongchan to teach him a lesson. However, it didn’t work, as Taehoon quickly beat up the people sent, and his classmates had to pay again to send someone that could deal with him.

While Dowoon was being bullied as usual, Taehoon entered the classroom with his hair dyed light brown, just like Dowoon. He dragged him out of school, planning to show him what ‘freedom’ looks like. He started by getting Dowoon’s ears pierced, and confiscating his phone so that he couldn’t call his father. The two were suddenly approached by two girls, Minjeong and an unnamed blonde, who offered to hang out with them. Taehoon saw this as an opportunity to get Dowoon to open up and accepted. After hours of playing arcade games with them, Dowoon seemed to forget about studying and started to have fun, not knowing that his father was furious. Taehoon then gets approached by Jeongchan’s gang, showing no surprise, as he had known he was being followed. He immediately spotted his opponent, Kim Moonsung, and the two got into an intense fight, where Taehoon ended up winning because of his desire to save Dowoon before something ended up happening to him. He rushed inside the arcade place, only to see Dowoon knock Jeongchan out by using the 1080°, the kick he failed doing when fighting Moonsung. Full of anger and envy, Taehoon stops talking to Dowoon for several days.

After refusing to immediately go after him when he was kidnapped by Jeongchan and his bike gang, Taehoon after his arrival found the dead body of his friend lying on the street as it rained. He immediately rushed to the hospital with Dowoon on his back but it was too late. Drowning in guilt, regret and self hate, Taehoon violently assaulted Jeongchan and his gang with a baseball bat. After leaving them with serious injuries, he breaks down in tears and starts loathing himself. The iconic 500 won gag line of his is seen to have emerged from his last conversation with his dead friend where the former asked the latter for 500 won for playing an arcade game.

Fighting Prowess [ ]

Style Breakdown [ ]

Taehoon is a Taekwondo practitioner, formerly only based on WT(World Taekwondo), but now also being a user of the original ITF(International Taekwondo Federation) style. Since young, he was considered a prodigy in the sport, having even made an appearance in a KBS show, where he easily beat a high schooler while still in primary school. His father notes that weight classes have never applied to Taehoon, because he was a «spin genius». His method of beating an opponent taller, bigger and heavier than him was to use spinning moves, as each spin would increase the power of the kick. Despite spinning moves being considered risky, Taehoon is able to pull them off in a practical situation because of his impressive speed and coordination.

Taehoon usually keeps his hands low, preferring to dodge and move out of the way of incoming attacks. When unable to use his legs, Taehoon lowers his body and puts his guard up. His footwork is very light and fast, meaning that he can quickly move around in a fight. He can even move on slippery areas by sliding his feet slightly on the inside and lowering his center of gravity to maintain his balance. Taehoon has a preference for using kicks and often uses his fists as backup, either when he can’t use his legs or when the situation gets serious. He has incredibly strong shin bones, which were even able to break a baseball bat on it’s impact. Taehoon’s long legs help him kick his opponents from a distance, and he usually likes to overwhelm them with continuous kicks, until they’re down.

In a flashback, it is shown that his father has trained him in ITF, which is credited as the original Taekwondo, in contrast of WT Taekwondo, which was modified for sport. WT Taekwondo heavily emphasizes kicks, because they score more points in competition. Punches to the head are not permitted, and this naturally makes participants of the sport focus on kicks only. Whereas in ITF, punches to the head are allowed, and it emphasizes them equally to kicks.

When getting into a serious situation in a fight, Taehoon is seen using more of ITF, showing much more power and aggressiveness in his movements, but still maintaining the flashy techniques. Despite being exceptionally good at striking, Taehoon has no grappling experience as he refuses to use anything other than Taekwondo. His mindset when dealing with a grappler is to keep the distance and kick before they can grab him, which didn’t always work, as he ended up losing to chokes thrice.

As of right now in the story, he has surpassed his father in his youth, in terms of skill.
