This movie is no failure. But I’m not sure it’s a complete success either. I laughed more than my nine year old son did. Additionally, I found myself pausing the movie frequently to explain how much of what was being seen on screen was in the young boys head. And that he was the only one playing along with his imagination/fantasy. The rest of the cast were his foils. not really in on his schemes.

For no other reason, it’s worth seeing for the imaginative script. The lead actor kind of wore on me. The monotone thing was only cute for so long. He needed a little bit more range. May not be the youngsters fault rather the director’s box that he was put in. Either way prepare for a mini Joe Friday. «Just the Facts Mam» from credits to credits.

This is an odd one. Funny while tip toeing in the pediatric learning disability/mental illness waters. This is a good thing. My son actually asked me to pause the movie during a scene where the protagonist found himself in trouble in school due to his wild imagination. My son proceeds to share how difficult concentrating in class is for him. This was so interesting because lately I’ve noticed some things that made me wonder about ADHD. I’m not going to diagnose him but I will now look into this. The fact that he initiated this conversation came across like he was asking for help so help it will be. I love him! This wasn’t my favorite movie but it may have helped my family and possibly help others too. Well done!

I have been really surprised about the comments I have read for this movie so far as they suggest many people may have been mistaken about what it is about. The movie is not specifically for children which is where some of the confusion potentially comes from (given it is based on children’s books) because a lot of the heavy dialogue (and little action) may go over their heads.

Timmy is a little boy who is rather disruptive & oblivious of most. His behaviour most likely however represents someone with high functioning autism spectrum disorder (unfortunately most comments so far suggest many people are unfamiliar with what this is). Timmy struggles with understanding what is going on around him & in order to deal with his life, has created a world that makes sense to him.

The characters of Mr Jenkins, Crispin & Patty are brilliant because they take Timmy seriously & recognise that he is not meaning to be rude; quite to the contrary, he is trying his best to do what is right. What is fantastic about these characters is that they model strategies to help him be successful, without destroying his identity. The movie also highlights the importance of differentiated learning so that all individuals are able to engage (as opposed to Mr Crocus’ antiquated methods when dealing with atypical learners).

This movie is quietly affirming for those of us in close contact with children on the spectrum. It is a brilliant window into how the world might seem to them (& be different to ours) and is a reminder that we need to have patience and that eventually, with persistence it will all make sense. The movie is refreshing because it Is realistic; it is confusing and awkward at times, just like life is for any child that is feeling uncertain.

Timmy Failure is a fun, creative little movie with a few surprisingly good moments that somehow doesn’t add up to a great flick. There’s an awkwardness here that seems partly intentional and yet its still awkward. There’s also a polar bear that’s funny at times but also complete nonsense.

This is a kids movie though so maybe kids would get more out of it. It’s not bad, it’s just not amazing either.

When the Disney+ streaming service first launched, it was really The Mandalorian series that drew everyone in initially, but the ones who have stuck around, just appreciate the catalogue of content for a low price. Luckily, for those who have stuck around and are eagerly awaiting series’ like Falcon and the Winter Solider and Wadavision, like myself, there is a great backlog of classic and a few originals to keep you subscribed. One of the most recent Disney+ originals is the film Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. While the budget feels small and it feels like a movie that was made for television, it’s also far better than I was expecting and I kind of wish kids had the chance to see this one on the big screen.

Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made follows a young boy who believes he is actually a licensed detective and can solve any mystery that the town presents to him. He partners up with his imaginary Polar Bear friend as they search for clues to very silly mysteries. Believing that Russians are evil and are behind certain things was a very funny subplot that had me chuckling on multiple occasions, but it really was the enjoyable performance by young Winslow Fegley that sold the movie for me. I think he has the perfect presence for family movies like this.

Now, this central character may be annoying to some viewers, as he is quite the smart-aleck when he speaks to adults, but if you can get past that, he’s a very fun and funny character to follow. The clever humour spread out throughout this film and the quick cutaways are really what held my attention the entire run-time. This is a very quippy movie that doesn’t skip a beat. Not only is this movie very funny, in terms of humour aimed at children, but it’s also filled with very nice life lessons that parents may even latch onto, depending on certain behaviours of their children.

What I mean by this, is the fact that there is a lot of attention placed on the fact that this is a very unique young boy. Many characters look at him as an outsider or a nuisance, but where the film takes that was very well-done, even if it felt familiar. This is a very effective movie all around. Yes, as I said, it feels familiar in the way it resolves storylines in the third act, but it does a great job in getting you to care about the characters at hand, which at least makes everything worth it. For adults, I can see them finding enjoyment, but for kids, I can’t recommend this one enough.

Overall, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made is a very well-done movie all around. From the clever writing aimed at children to the life lessons presented throughout the third act, this film is for all ages. It’s very rare that a movie that’s this kid-friendly is as good as it is, so I believe this one should be celebrated. If you’re a fan of movies, no matter what ages they’re for, or if you have kids to show it to, then Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made is a very good one. If you fall in either of those categories, definitely give this one a shot. It’s now streaming on Disney+.

Ладно, давайте быстренько разберёмся со скучными предисловиями. Меня зовут Фейл, Тимми Фейл. Это я:

Изначально наша семейная фамилия была Фелль, но кто-то её изменил, и теперь она пишется и произносится так, как я сказал. Все шуточки насчёт моих фееричных «фейлов» попрошу оставить при себе. Кем-кем, а неудачником меня не назовёшь.

Я – основатель, президент и генеральный директор детективного агентства, названного в мою честь «Фейл Инкорпорейтед». Агентство «Фейл, Инк.» – лучшее в городе, если не во всём штате. А то и в целой стране.

Книга, которую вы держите в руках, – исторические хроники моей работы частным детективом. Каждый факт в ней тщательно выверен. Все иллюстрации выполнены мной лично. Я пытался привлечь к созданию рисунков своего партнёра, но у него ничего не вышло. К примеру, вот как он изобразил меня:

Однако успех не пришёл ко мне в одночасье. До этого пришлось преодолеть множество препятствий. В их числе:

Разумеется, у вас возник тот же вопрос, который все непременно задают мне после оглашения списка помех, а именно: почему в лучших друзьях у меня идиот? Об этом чуть позже. Да, и, пожалуй, следует сказать пару слов про белого медведя весом в семьсот кило.

Его зовут Эпик. Кличка такая.

Родной дом Эпика в Арктике тает. Поиски пищи привели белого медведя к миске нашего кота. Теперь Эпик находится в 3101 миле от естественного ареала обитания. Да, ему пришлось немало пройти ради кошачьей миски, но мы никогда не жалели денег на качественный корм для питомца. К сожалению, сейчас наш котик находится на небесах, в Кошачьем раю (или в Кошачьих трущобах – он ведь с рождения не отличался дружелюбностью), зато у меня есть белый медведь.

Первое время Эпик демонстрировал должное усердие и аккуратность, из-за чего я, собственно, и согласился сделать его своим деловым партнёром.

Очень скоро выяснилось, что усердие и аккуратность были всего лишь хитрой уловкой, типичной для белых медведей. Не желаю больше говорить на эту тему. Кроме того, не хочу обсуждать смену названия агентства, которое отныне именуется так (и в городском справочнике тоже):

Всё, мне пора. Трезвонит Тиммифон.

Кондитер в печали: все конфеты спёрли

Звонит Гуннар – мой одноклассник, сосед, а теперь ещё и потерпевший: у Гуннара пропали все сладости, отложенные для Хэллоуина.

Ко мне часто обращаются по поводу кражи конфет. Подобные дела не бывают громкими, о них не пишут в газетах, зато они приносят неплохой доход. Короче, я бужу партнёра и хватаю Фейломобиль.

Уточню: вообще-то он называется не Фейломобиль, а сегвей.

Это гироскутер моей мамы, она выиграла его в лотерею. Мама установила некоторые ограничения насчёт того, когда и как я могу пользоваться этой штукой:

Я решил, что это слишком размытые границы, поэтому спокойно беру скутер, когда мне нужно, и до сих пор мама не возражала. В основном потому, что беру я его тайком.

В этом заключается один из основополагающих принципов детективного агентства «Эпик Фейл», увековеченный мной на подошве левого ботинка:

Единственное, что меня не устраивает в Фейломобиле, – это скорость. Если я еду, а Эпик ковыляет пешком, то он добирается до места первым. И всё бы ничего, но по дороге медведь пару раз успевает вздремнуть!

Так что, когда я приезжаю к Гуннару, Эпик, вполне предсказуемо, уже возле дома и увлечённо занимается тем, что частенько делает, обогнав меня в пути. Прежде чем я объясню, что это за дело, позвольте отметить следующее: в частном сыске главное – произвести первое впечатление. Клиент сразу должен видеть, что нанятый им детектив – а) профи; б) обладает чувством стиля; в) осторожен и неприметен.

Однако все старания создать нужный эффект идут насмарку, если перво-наперво клиент видит это:

Я сто раз просил Эпика не лопать всё подряд из клиентских мусорных баков, но ему хоть бы хны. По-моему, этот медведь умышленно подрывает репутацию агентства.

На моё счастье, к тому времени, когда я стучу в дверь Гуннара, Эпик уже расправился с объедками и стоит на крыльце рядом со мной.

Гуннар встречает нас и ведёт к месту преступления. Указывая на тумбочку возле своей кровати, он говорит:

– Моя пластмассовая тыква с конфетами лежала тут, а потом исчезла.

Глядя на пустой столик, я прихожу к выводу, что сладостей нет.

“Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made” is reminiscent of the DCOMs Disney used to produce, but now aimed for a younger generation.

Plot Summary/ Review (Ending Spoilers on 2 nd Page)

Timmy Failure, an only child, being raised by a single mother, Patty, is a detective. One who, alongside the polar bear, Total, who shared up not too long after his father left, solve the crimes around his neighborhood in Portland. Such as missing backups, the deaths of hamsters, and the things the cops couldn’t be able to handle.

But, while Timmy is a world-class detective, as an elementary school kid, he struggles. His friend Rollo, a former member of Total Failure detective agency, has committed himself to school work and trying to get into college. Molly, a girl who may like Timmy, he doesn’t fully trust her yet. And then there is Corina – someone who Timmy thinks is working with the Russians.

Luckily, despite all that troubles Timmy, like Mr. Crocus being hard on him, between Total, his mom, and school counselor Mr. Jenkins, Timmy may not only solve his latest case but survive 5 th grade.

You Could See This As A Television Series

From moving to a new apartment, his mom dating someone new, and the trials and tribulations of middle school, you could see so much come from “Timmy Failure” becoming a series. We have this weird kid who is strange in a way you can imagine being real, rather than Hollywood’s version of “different,” and then all these adults, kids, and people who seem very Portland specific. Be it the intense librarian with tattoos who looks like she rides a Harley around town, the hippies who grow pot in their basement, to the many hipsters with the most luxurious beards.

What this film does isn’t just introduce Timmy but a universe. An entire world to be explored, and one could only hope this isn’t a one and done experience.

The Male Figures In Timmy’s Life

Specifically, Crispin and Mr. Jenkins, you have to love their part in Timmy’s life. This isn’t to downplay Mr. Crocus, who put up with a lot, but while Timmy appreciated him not giving up on him, he didn’t really engage him. Mr. Jenkins, unlike many adults at the school, spoke Timmy’s language. He didn’t push conformity but instead helped Timmy understand that he needed to find a way to adapt. So that he didn’t become normal, lifeless, and dull, but still had the ability to make it through school and life.

Then with Crispin, while it is established Timmy isn’t necessarily a momma’s boy, it has been just him and his mother for years. So seeing him learn to trust Crispin and go to him when he had a problem with Total, it was sweet in ways that caught me off guard. Bringing an unexpected emotional oomph to what most may consider a kids’ movie.

Patty’s Struggle

But Timmy’s relationships with the men in his life weren’t the only thing that surprised me. Patty’s financial struggles also were a surprise. Now, granted, there was the need to ask if Timmy’s father was paying child support and where were Patty’s parents, never mind Timmy’s paternal grandparents. However, the struggles she had having a unique kid, and it being clear Patty didn’t come from some upper middle-class life, but was doing her best, was a nice change of pace. Especially her noting how difficult it was to afford what was normal for Timmy and bringing up how her salary couldn’t handle the rising rent.

Molly and Timmy

I don’t know if Molly has a crush or not, but her friendship with Timmy was so sweet and pure. It’s the kind that reminds you of that one friend who thought you were cool, no matter how weird you were, and as much as they offered their acceptance, they asked that of you. And while you may not have fully appreciated them at the time, as an adult, you realize that was probably the best friendship you ever had. Outside of any and all imaginary friends.

On The Fence

This May Feel Longer Than It Needed To Be

While the film doesn’t necessarily feel like it overstays its welcome, you may find yourself sometimes thinking this is a pilot vs. a movie. Not because of how it acts so much like an extended pilot, but since you can foresee so many moments it could have ended and continued in what could be seen as episode two. For, on its own, “Timmy Failure” almost makes you feel like you are binge-watching something and the end of the movie leading you to realize, rather than an 8+ episode season, this one is only 3.

Meaning, while you enjoy yourself overall, you may feel that this really didn’t need to be a movie, and perhaps more could have been done with supporting characters if this was just made into a mini-series or regular series.
