Aeternitas de Alger Obelia is an antagonist in Season 3 of Who Made Me a Princess, and the former emperor of the Obelian Empire. He is revealed to be the mysterious hooded figure from Anastacius’ past in Episode 82 and he formerly inhabited Anastacius’ body. [5]

Appearance
As a child, Aeternitas is depicted with unkempt shoulder-length dirty blond hair. Although described as dull in comparison, he also carried the jewel blue eyes passed down through the imperial bloodline. As he grew, his hair gradually became more disheveled, his skin peeling with necrose. Donning a hooded cloak, Aeternitas attempted to conceal his appearance. When possessing control over the body of Anastacuis, his eyes glow a piercing red hue.
Personality
Aeternitas is an immoral, conniving man with a blatant disregard for family and human life. Due to his lack of moral principle, Aeternitas is outwardly irked when Anastacius hesitates to kill Claude’s mother. Ultimately, his personality is the result of an incident from his childhood after the renowned magician, whom he revered, humiliated him for being weak. Manipulative to the core, Aeternitas displays tactical knowledge by cleverly orchestrating a series of events. From planting seeds of doubt in Jennette’s mind to making the nobles doubt Athanasia’s authority, Aeternitas had skillfully weaseled his way into a political spotlight.
Timeline
Background
Over 200 years prior to the current timeline, Aeternitas was the son of Kyilum and the official heir to the throne. [4] He was brought to Lucas, the renowned Magician of the Black Tower, to learn magic. Lucas, however, coldly rejected the prospect of teaching Aeternitas, accusing the young boy of having dull eyes and appearing weak. [7] Many years later, Aeternitas was recorded in history as the most powerful magician emperor to exist. [8]
Story
Centuries after his supposed death, Aeternitas conceals his appearance using a cloak and draws a seemingly entranced young Anastacius towards him. [9] Several years later, Aeternitas, in his spiritual form, offers to lend Anastacius his power as he urges him to eliminate Claude’s mother. [10]
At some point, Anastacius recalls Aeternitas’ words rebuking him for letting sentiments get the best of him while chatting about family with Jennette. For a brief moment, Aeternitas replies through Anastacius that Jennette’s family will accept her existence as blood is thicker than water. Surprised, Jennette picks up on Anastacius’ radical personality change as she wonders why his answer suddenly differed from Anastacius’ prior uncertainty about whether true unconditional love is plausible. [6] Some time later, Jennette chats with Anastacius, saddened she was sent away like a stranger when the emperor became injured. While trying to remind Jennette about the noble bloodline, Anastacius recollects Aeternitas’ harsh words again instructing him to get the job done. After Jennette confides her insecurities regarding her lack of magic, Aeternitas responds through Anastacius that if someone is worthy of the throne then the amount of mana one possesses is of little significance. He further elaborates he believes Jennette can become a worthy empress loved by her people. [5] Later, Anastacius attempts to brainwash Roger but due to his hesitation, Roger throws a magical imbued ink pot at them in retaliation, however, the blow in turn allows Aeternitas to freely leave his body. After their confrontation, Aeternitas criticizes Anastacius for not allowing him to brainwash Roger sooner. [11]
Athanasia holds a meeting with the esteemed heads of the noble houses [12] where Anastacius makes his appearance. [13] When she mentions bringing in the royal wizard to dispute the accusations, Aeternitas realizes he must avoid meeting Lucas as he might recognize who ‘he’ is. [14]
Relationships
Lucas
Aeternitas was unable to establish a good relationship with Lucas. After seeing the young boy’s frail appearance, Lucas questioned Aeternitas’s legitimacy as a descendant of the imperial family and refused to teach him magic. [7] Many years after Lucas went into a prolonged, magic-induced sleep, rumors of his relationship with Aeternitas became warped. Lucas, the Magician of the Black Tower, was reportedly enamored with Aeternitas and became his loyal servant. After Aeternitas’s death, Lucas allegedly hid his existence in despair. [15]
Anastacius de Alger Obelia
Despite sharing a body, Aeternitas and Anastacius don’t always see eye to eye, often doing the opposite of what the other intends. Most of their interactions consist of Aeternitas reprimanding Anastacius for his lack of focus on the plan. At one point, Aeternitas offers to lend Anastacius his power to finish the job of killing Claude’s mother. However, Anastacius went against his demands, abandoning their objective at the last moment. When Anastacius became preoccupied with his thoughts, Aeternitas briefly took over his body to steer the conversation with Jennette in the direction he intended.
Jennette Margarita
Aeternitas perceives Jennette as a tool to advance his plan. During his conversation with her, he attempts to waver her thoughts and plant seeds of doubt in her mind by suggesting she could become an empress loved by her people. Jennette’s lack of mana reminds Aeternitas of his own past with Lucas, at one point telling her the throne is not defined by the amount of magic an individual possesses.
Athanasia de Alger Obelia
Aeternitas indirectly interacts with Athanasia through Anastacius after the meetings with the nobles. Despite his desire to crush her, Aeternitas perceives Athanasia’s mana as outstanding, making her the ideal body for him to possess. However, he is unable to do so as he failed to break her properly.
Magic
Aeternitas was able to use his descendant as a vessel to execute his plans, even demonstrating a degree of control over the body as he successfully conversed through it. [5] As the most powerful emperor recorded in history, Aeternitas’ age somehow exceeded ordinary life expectancy. He had conducted several impressive magical feats such as cursing inanimate objects, brainwashing people, and even sustaining himself outside of Anastacius’ body. [10]

Claude de Alger Obelia
Claude, emperor of the Obelian Empire, is the father of Athanasia. In «The Lovely Princess», he has almost no emotional bond with Athanasia, even going as far as saying he «never thought of her as his daughter» before her execution. This hatred is attributed to the fact that Diana, the dancer who Claude loved deeply, died while giving birth to Athanasia. After Athanasia’s transmigration, Claude treats his daughter with indifference at first but comes to treasure her as time passes.
At first, Athanasia views Claude as a tyrant capable of murdering anyone at his will. This image she has is due to her reading of the novel Lovely Princess, and she’s wary of him. She believes that in order to survive, she must be on his good side. However, as time passes by, she views him as the father she never had and comes to enjoy his company so much that she even asks him for favors such as being her partner during her first dance at her debutante, or to have a painting of the two of them.
Her influence over him is so great that Athanasia is capable of calming Claude down when he’s in a foul mood, like the time when at her debutante, Athanasia is tired and wanted to head back to Emerald Palace to rest. Claude believed that she wanted to leave because someone had been rude to her, so Athanasia clung onto his arm and told him that she missed her father and that’s why she had left the debutante. Once Claude was calmed and decided to head back home with his daughter. Another time when Claude got mad was when Felix started to talk about how Athanasia eventually would get married and he wouldn’t be able to spend time with the adorable Princess. Claude demands Felix to leave and never to show at their private tea parties. Athanasia calms Claude when she comments that she wanted to be with Claude forever, and that even if she ended up getting married Claude would still be her favourite person. Though Claude retorts about how she tends to say cheesy things, Athanasia can see he’s no longer upset.
At the end of Season One, when Athanasia falls ill and is surrounded in what appeared a mana explosion, Claude risks his life to save hers. This puts them both in a 10-day coma, with Athanasia waking up first. Upon her waking Claude, it is revealed he has amnesia and has completely forgotten Athanasia, transforming their relationship into how it was in «The Lovely Princess». After seeing the painting he had commissioned of the two of them, he is convinced she is a dark wizard who put a spell on him. Throughout this time he is determined to kill her the next time they meet. They eventually meet in the rose garden where he, despite knowing that the protection spells on her were placed by him, he attempts to finish the deed. Before the situation could escalate any further, Athanasia teleports away, leaving Claude beside himself in anger and confusion.
She goes into hiding and only returns every once in a while to the Palace to check on people dear to her, amongst them, her father. After having some meetings with Jennette, in which his memories Athanasia jogged in his mind, he’s asked by Jennette if he didn’t miss Athanasia, to which he responds he didn’t know, but he wouldn’t try to harm her anymore. So, he was willing to let her live in the Palace again.
Though, he doesn’t regain his memories, he tries to hold regular meetings with her, the way they used to.
Diana
Diana is a dancer who died whilst giving birth to Athanasia. She is mainly depicted as «fairy-like» and graceful. Athanasia only sees her mother in brief dreams, where Diana interacts with Claude.
In a sense, Diana saves Athanasia from death during the Ruby Palace massacre and secures her place as Obelia’s next heir by giving her child the name «Athanasia», which Claude found humorous. Athanasia is often told she possesses similar traits to her mother, in both looks and personality.
Anastacius de Alger Obelia
Anastacius is Claude’s older brother who is allegedly dead due to Claude killing him in a fit of anger for having an affair with Penelope Judith. He harbors ill intentions towards the family, but he doesn’t want to harm his daughter. He takes on the facade of a gentleman who offers advice when needed to Jennette Margarita, but he is a cold, heartless man in reality. Athanasia first notices Anastacius at her debutante, and then a second time when she and Jennette went to the market. Athanasia is aware of his cold demeanor unlike Jennette, but she doesn’t think much past that. They run into each other a third time at the Alpheus manor while she stayed their undercover and this interaction physically and mentally shocked them both.
Jennette Margarita
Jennette Margarita is the daughter of Penelope and Anastacius. She was the product of an affair and experimentation. She is said to be born due to dark magic which made Athanasia view her as someone dangerous yet harmless at the same time due to jennette’s kind personality. Athanasia already knew the truth of her origins, but decided to keep it a secret in order to spare Jennette’s feelings despite the fact that she knows the truth will inevitably be revealed eventually.
at first, Athanasia was very cautious of Jennette because of what happened in The Lovely Princess novel. They first meet at the debutante and multiple times later at Athanasia’s tea parties. Athanasia initially attempts to keep Jennette at a distance, but they inadvertently grow closer. Although they were friends through formality, they began to spend a lot more time together after Athanasia ran away from the palace. She would often stop by the Alpheus Manor as a means of refuge.
this greatly developed their sisterly relationship, But Athanasia still view her as a threat to the kingdom because of her problematic situation and her naivety which makes her easy to be manipulated and used by others, this changed when Jennette confronted Athanasia by opening up to her which resulted for the two to have complete trust towards one another.
Felix Robane
Felix is Athanasia’s personal guard who was first introduced as the bosom brother of Claude and he was sent over to guard the 5-year-old Athanasia. Felix is not affiliated with Athanasia in the original «The Lovely Princess.» However, in the current timeline, he plays a role as her personal guard. He becomes very attached to Athanasia so much, that even Claude tries to tease him telling him he «has become quite the nanny» seeing how Felix became familiar of Athanasia’s whims to carry her anywhere she desire. It was revealed that the reason he was fond of the princecss, even before, was because Felix was in good terms with Diana when she was Alive and held her in high regards. Even Claude became evidently envious of Felix and Athanasia’s close relationship that he would make him follow them 10 steps behind.
When Athanasia found out Felix’s alias that he earned in the battlefield, ‘Knight of Crimson Blood’, she used it as a chance to playfully tease him.
During the first season, Athanasia asked Felix to be her partner on first dance at the debutante. Though Felix felt honored to be considered by the Princess, he, like Lucas, knew that Claude wanted to be the princess’ partner and tried to give Athanasia some hints. However, Athanasia ch remained oblivious to it which put him in an awkward position. Apparently, Felix gets ‘tortured’ by Claude constantly, until Athanasia finally asks Claude to become her dance partner. Felix thanks the Princess and makes a comment that he feels safe again.
In the second season, Felix is often seen defending Athanasia in front of Claude. He keeps pushing Claude to remember Athanasia and pulls references of their times together. It was implied later by Claude, that although the emperor had been looking for the Princess, Felix wasn’t really trying his best in finding her, and that this was because Claude’s insistence on murdering Athanasia at sight. However, when Claude wants to bring back Athanasia into the Emerald Palace again, he asks Felix to properly look for Athanasia since he had no intention in hurting her anymore.
Athanasia has only seen Felix as kind, and aloof at times. but on the day Athanasia decided to return to the palace she decides to secretly follow Felix assuming he wouldn’t notice her because of her invisibility magic. yet, Felix was able to pinpoint Athanasia’s exact location and even conjured a sword when he felt her presence, although he wasn’t aware that the intruder was athanasia which made him deeply regret his action when he saw the teary-eyed princess in shock. to comfort the princess, he crouched down in order to make himself look smaller and harmless while comforting Athanasia
Lucas
Lucas is a magician who took a form of a young boy and serves as Athanasia’s companion. He is also responsible for keeping the princess’s mana under control and detach any lingering curse sticking to her frequently. He is the only character who wasn’t a character in the book, therefore Athanasia can’t prejudge or read him like all the other characters and, instead, she learns about him over the time they spend together.
At their first meeting, Lucas tried to kill Athanasia using magical bubbles but stopped by Athanasia’s Divine Beast, Blackie. Later in the story, it is evident that the magician slowly developed a liking to Athanasia as he frequently gets annoyed when Ijekiel spends time with the princess. Despite his cold attitude towards Athanasia, he is quite docile towards her after she hit him in the head due to offending her which he then stated «no one has ever hit [him] in [his] entire life, not even [his] parents». He deeply cares for Athanasia and even went as far as taking her outside the palace for a secret expedition and put an exact replica of Athanasia in her room to avoid suspicion.
Towards the end of the first season, Lucas leaves to find the World Tree in order to get its fruit and replenish his mana. Before he leaves, Athanasia questions whether he could just consume her mana instead. Lucas jokingly states that she only wishes for him to stay so that she can keep her mana stable. Athanasia retorts stating «How can you say that when I’m your friend?!». Lucas is shocked by this statement and eases her worries then he leaves. Lucas eventually returns to the palace and goes straight to meet Athanasia. Soon after, Athanasia asks Lucas to save her father, Claude, and gives him a kiss on the cheek as payment for his troubles.
Ijekiel Alpheus
Athanasia sees Ijekiel as a ‘high calibur male Lead’ due to his high intelligence, brotherly figure and proper manners despite being young, a quality befitting of an ideal male lead.
Ijekiel met Athanasia when they were little. after Lucas suddenly casted a teleportation magic on Athanasia to the Alpheus Estate, it resulted for the young Athanasia’s fall from the sky that led the young Alpheus on a peculiar encounter, prompting him to catch the princess. Due to this incident, Ijekiel assumed that Athanasia was an angel due to that bizarre meeting with her, coupled by the fact that the feathery dress she wore with the large white ribbon greatly resembled a vague image of an angel, thus, earning her the nickname ‘Lady Angel» by Ijekiel. Later in the story, he developed a romantic attraction towards Athanasia as he stated that «I couldn’t bear to watch that person cry again», pertaining to the Athanasia.
later on into the series, it was revealed that Ijekiel also had romantic feelings toward Athanasia as he felt love-at-first-sight on their meeting in the first timeline, which is seen when Jennette introduced him as her fiance to athanasia in that life.
Roger Alpheus
Due to her knowledge of his character in the ‘Lovely Princess’ novel, Athanasia isn’t quite fond of Roger because of his apparent schemes. She always tries her best to avoid being involved with him and always finds a way to refuse his offers which were an obvious attempt to build a connection with her as she sees it as Roger’s ‘investment’ for the future to claim some the glory the royal family has to offer. She calls him ‘whitey’ or ‘white doggy’ in an innocent demeanor in order to vex him when she was younger but has grown out of that habit later on.
Although athanasia doesn’t like Roger, she is aware that he’s a discerning individual who would do his best to serve the empire and the royal family which earns a little of her respect.
Lilian York
Lilian, or «Lily» as Athanasia calls her affectionately, is Athanasia’s nanny and the one who raised her. Lilian volunteered to be Athanasia’s personal nanny despite other’s opinion towards her decision. ever since, she has taken care of Athanasia since she was a newborn, becoming a motherly figure for the princess. In more than one occasion, Athanasia has shown that she’s grateful to her and how much she loves her as lilian is one of the people she valued the most. In one occasion Athanasia commented that Lilian «could be such a mom sometimes» when she praised the princess’ scholarly skills. She’s also very strict when needed, like the time she scolds Athanasia for getting a cavity and forbade her from eat chocolate,
Lilian seems to have some difficulty grasping the idea that Athanasia is growing up when she witnesses Athanasia giving Lucas a kiss on the cheek as his ‘payment’. her alarming reaction on the scene led Felix to believed that the Princess was in danger.

Claude kills Anastacius
As the youngest son of the royal family, Claude had an unhappy childhood who was treated as a spare, ignored and neglected by Anastacius de Alger Obelia, his father and his father’s court as evident of his name ‘Claude’ meaning ‘crippled’ as royal names meaning ’immortal’ were typically reserved for kings and emperors. Despite being a prince, Claude wore worn out and dirty clothes as a child and his skin were covered in bruises from where his step mother used to abuse him whenever she got angry. [1] Initially, the two brothers shared a close relationship, Anastacius would praise him during his lessons and attempted to help him recover when he fell ill from fever. However, increased pressure for the throne and other peculiar factors surrounding Anastacius caused the two to drift apart which contributed to Claude’s feeling of sorrow and resignation as he grew up. Originally, Claude was engaged to Penelope Judith, but his fiancée kept delaying their engagement announcement as he wasn’t first in line to the throne himself. Eventually, Penelope seduced Anastacius, the official crown prince and Claude caught the two in bed together. Anastacius smiled mockingly at him, grabbing his arm roughly to humiliate him further. Claude snatched his arm away and renounced all his blood ties with his family. Once Anastacius became emperor, he allegedly killed Claude’s mother and even attempted to kill his own brother using black magic. However, Claude ‘killed’ him, and usurped the throne with the help of his knight, Felix Robane.
Claude lives a depraved life drinking and sleeping around
After that, Claude became distrustful and lived a depraved life, sleeping around with his concubines, until he met Diana, a dancer invited to the royal banquet. He then fell in love with her and deflowered her, where she eventually became pregnant with his baby. [2] Claude begged Diana to give up the baby as it would put her life in danger but Diana chose the baby, eventually she passed away from childbirth and Claude’s daughter with jewel blue eyes, ‘Athanasia’ was born. After Diana’s death, Claude massacred all the concubines in the Ruby palace where he abandoned his daughter to be raised by maids. [3]
The Lovely Princess [ ]
Claude meets Athanasia in the novel when she is nine
Claude met Athanasia for the first time when she was nine at a time he already wiped his memories of Diana. Despite acknowledging her existence, Claude neglected his daughter throughout her childhood and never once expressed love and affection towards her. At Athanasia’s debutante ball, Jennette’s existence was revealed as ‘Claude’s daughter’ as Roger and Ijekiel presented her to the emperor. Amused, Claude imparted they could discuss the details in the audience chamber. The crowd gossiped amongst themselves and Athanasia watched the scene unfold from the sidelines in despair, realising she had lost her chance to win Claude’s favour.
Claude is cruel until the end
Initially, Claude was aloof and dismissive of the new arrival, treating her with the same air of disdain he did with his actual daughter. However, Jennette’s warm disposition melted his icy heart and Claude accepted her as his daughter. To cement his love and favouritism, Claude gifted her the Emerald Palace, a place used by princesses of the imperial family for generations. Not long after, Rosalia poisoned her niece under the pretense of framing Athanasia in order to make Jennette the crown princess. As Athanasia cried and wept for her father’s love at his feet, Claude callously declared he never once considered her his daughter. Cruel until the end, Claude executed Athanasia without a fair trial. Even upon finding out her innocence, Claude expressed no remorse for his daughter’s wrongful execution.
Claude suffers from a severe migraine
After Athanasia’s death, Claude suffered from a series of severe migraines. Tormented by his pain, Claude cried out for Jennette and she hastily rushed to his side. At a loss with what to do, Jennette inquired if his head had been hurting again but the ailing emperor collapsed before he could answer. Rumours circulated throughout the kingdom about the emperor’s inability to manage day to day duties let alone govern a whole empire. Anastacius emerged from the shadows and beckoned Jennette who attempted to aid a dying Claude. The maids whispered discreetly amongst themselves that apparently the sickly emperor was cursed. [4]

Claude and Felix meet Athanasia four years earlier than the novel
By fortuitous concurrence, Claude happens upon Athanasia de Alger Obelia in his palace teething a gold statue. [5] Discerning the distinct jewel blue eyes on Athanasia’s face, Claude recollects Diana and muses at his daughter’s name. He deduces she may have wandered into his palace during playtime and throws her into his guard Felix’s arms, declaring he is going to have tea with his new ‘guest.’
Athanasia remains quiet for the remainder of their tea time, her reticence due to her fear of him. Bored, he orders Felix to leave so the two are alone together. Claude inquires if she recognises the meaning of her name, explaining if Diana survived the labor he would have mutilated her for daring to give her child such a prestigious name and to a female in particular, a luxury he himself was unable to receive when he was born. Athanasia then realize the reason he brought her to have tea with him was to determine whether she would live longer or die. [6]
Athanasia stutters out ‘father’ which intrigues Claude so she further exaggerates her cute act by referring to him as ‘papa’. Claude sends Athanasia back to her palace with Felix Robane to inform the maids he will come visit Athanasia again in the near future. Not long after, Lily and Athanasia visit Claude in the throne room where he praises Lily for raising Athanasia well and from now on he will be paying more attention to Athanasia’s well being.
Claude watches Athanasia struggle in the water
A few days later, Claude and Athanasia meet up again and Athanasia begins to pick up that no matter how insolent she behaved, he didn’t try to kill her. He takes her to a lake with a boat which Athanasia is reluctant to go on. The two get on the boat together and the boat begins to move on its own magically. During their boat ride, Athanasia reaches out for a lotus flower in the lake and falls in. He watches as Athanasia struggles in the water, crying out for help. Eventually, he rescues her from the lake and drops her ashore as she coughs up water. He orders Felix to teach Athanasia to swim as it would be a shame if the Emperor’s daughter drowned in a mere lake. [7]
The next day, Claude replaces all the maids in the palace and sends Felix to be her personal guard. Felix escorts Athanasia to visit Claude while he’s asleep in his room. Claude awakens to his daughter singing a lullaby to him to conceal the fact she was about to punch him as revenge for what happened at the lake. While Athanasia is put to sleep in her room at night, Claude reminiscences about Diana. Felix remarks Athanasia probably inherited her brazen personality from her mother but Claude simply replies that had it been a year longer he would have forgotten Diana‘s face since he had cast magic on himself to forget the memories spent with her. Felix comments Athanasia is truly a ‘lovely princess’ but Claude responds he lost such emotions a long time ago. Looking at the old cracked photo frame of his ex-fiancée, Penelope, he commands Felix to leave as he was feeling tired. Felix thinks to himself that Claude still has emotions left and he too, will one day bathe in the golden light of Athanasia. [8]
A year longer and Claude would have forgotten Diana’s face
After that, their tea time is now allocated to take place at 10am every morning. As they have tea, Athanasia mentions the dream she had the night prior and notices the astonishment on the maids’ faces. It was the first time they witnessed Athanasia and Claude confabulating normally. Athanasia requests to have a sip of the tea Claude is drinking. He smoothly responds that the tea is not enjoyed for its taste but allows her to have some, Athanasia smiles happily, claiming the tea tastes like ’flowers blooming inside her mouth’. Stunned into silence, Felix remarks it was the exact same thing Diana said when she used to drink the same tea with Claude. [9]
Athanasia visits Claude after her encounter with Roger Alpheus, referring to him as ’Mister White’. Amused, Claude comments it befits a man who won’t stop barking. Felix suggests getting a friend for Athanasia, particularly Roger Alpheus’ son, IjekieI, however, Claude immediately rejects it, irked at the idea of two kids running around the palace much to Athanasia’s dismay. Claude places Athanasia onto his bed and relaxes beside her in a secret resting area behind the throne room. He orders Athanasia to sing the lullaby song that ‘chases away bad dreams’ but she feigns forgetting it. Claude narrates a time he made assassins sent to kill him remember information by force but states he is unable to use the same method on her since she is a child. Terror-stricken by his story, Athanasia claims to suddenly remember the song and sings the lullaby repeatedly until he falls asleep. Eventually, Athanasia falls asleep alongside Claude. As she sleeps, Claude tenderly places his fingertips on her head, showcasing paternal affections towards his daughter for the first time. [10]

Two years later, Athanasia visits Claude on her own accord to eat cake as chocolate has gone missing in the palace, their relationship now progressed close enough for her to come and go as she pleases. Some time later, Athanasia meets up with Claude again who is sleepy, getting only four hours of sleep the night before due to the hard work of his position as Emperor. As Athanasia gets distracted by the gold throne, she accidentally grabs onto Claude’s robe, a gesture she uses on Felix when she wants to be picked up. Unaccustomed to carrying a child, Claude picks her roughly by the bow on the back of her dress, making it difficult for her to breathe. Felix demonstrates the correct way to carry a child and Claude rectifies his action though she is reluctant. Then, the three go for a stroll with Felix behind them at a distance as ordered by Claude. Athanasia attempts to swat away an annoying fly but accidentally slaps Claude’s face in the process, leaving a pink mark on his cheek. She quickly tries to amend herself and Felix adds in she should kiss the mark away, adding to her embarrassment. She cries while apologising profusely, kissing his cheek to make it better.
Claude is shocked to see Athanasia coughing up blood
At their next tea party, Athanasia coughs up blood and looks up to see a petrified expression on her father’s face, she passes out into a coma. [11] As soon as Athanasia wakes up, she cries out from the unbearable pain and Claude demands to the magician why a cure has not been found yet. Frustrated with the magician’s excuse and inability to cure Athanasia, he orders the guards to send him away to the underground dungeon. He puts Athanasia to sleep using his magic to ease her pain. In her dream, Athanasia witnesses the same scene of Diana’s crying. To her surprise, the dream continues; Claude begs Diana to choose him and not the child eating away at her life. The dream concludes and Athanasia wakes up. Claude walks into the room and Athanasia hastily rushes out of her bed but she trips. He catches the weakened Athanasia and carries her, inquiring if she was hurt anywhere. Before she can complain about Lucas, Claude tells the latter he will be compensated for his efforts for saving Athanasia’s life.
Claude begs Diana to get rid of the baby
Later, Claude returns after Athanasia’s and Lucas’ conversation, Lucas recommends reducing the time spent with her animal companion to which he agrees. Athanasia claims she is tired so he escorts her to bed and puts her into a magic induced sleep. She stirs awake to her dad gazing solemnly out the window at night. He notifies her to sleep longer since it was still early in the night and he would stay with her until she falls asleep. In the morning, Claude orders Felix to remain cautious and to monitor the young magician. Claude ruminates on his life with Athanasia, his mind overwhelmed with dark thoughts of killing Athanasia. He curses Diana for leaving behind a copy of herself rather than dying and leaving him alone as he was close to completely forgetting Diana. Consumed by hatred and rage, Claude sets out to kill the divine beast but Lucas informs there is a better way to stabilise Athanasia‘s magic. Claude threatens Lucas to do everything in his power because if the princess died then so would he. Tormented by an agonising headache, Claude repeatedly states aloud he hates her, but despite his statement, he tenderly places a hand on Athanasia‘s head. [12]
Claude orders for Athanasia to move residence from the Ruby Palace to the Emerald Palace, a palace used by princesses for generations and was originally granted to Jennette in the book. During their daily stroll, Claude inquires out of genuine care for her well-being if Lucas is a good companion, and if she is unhappy he could always find her another friend. Athanasia assures her father she is happy especially since Claude chose her companion. Claude confides earnestly as long as she is happy that’s all that matters to him and he hugs her closer to him affectionately. They then enjoy the rest of the walk in silence with the wind blowing and leaves falling. [13]

Several years pass, and Athanasia’s upcoming debutante ball fast approaches. He mentions her upcoming birthday which is also the anniversary of Diana’s death. While they eat, Claude insists that if she wants anything for her birthday she should tell him but the princess politely declines, satisfied with all the gifts given by him. He gives an odd response as silence befalls on them and he tells her to continue eating. At their next tea time together, Athanasia inquires if Felix would be the most suitable partner for the ball and Claude agrees though he has an ambiguous look on his face, perhaps hoping to be picked as her escort. Some time later, Athanasia confides her worry about the ball. Eventually, Athanasia musters up the courage to subtly insinuate she wishes for Claude to escort her to which he agrees if that is what his daughter truly wants.
Claude doesn’t attend Athanasia’s 14th birthday
Claude drinks several glasses of alcohol alone in his room instead of attending or celebrating his daughter’s 14th birthday. [14] On the day of the debutante, Claude dresses up formally, ditching his typical casual Obelian robe attire. As he watches Athanasia who has been dolled up for the special occasion, descend the stairs he is stunned into silence on her striking resemblance to Diana. He extends a hand out to her and compliments her beauty which is unlike him. He escorts her to the ball and their entrance is announced, all eyes in the room turn to look at them. Noticing Athanasia’s hesitation, he intimidates the crowd into bowing their head to avert their gaze. He offers her he can make sure they don’t raise their head until the ball is over to ease her worries. Athanasia assures it won’t be necessary as he is beside her. To further her embarrassment, he lists the times she would pull out his hair for no reason and slapped him one time as a child; therefore dancing should be a breeze for her as she was quite daring from a young age.
Claude escorts Athanasia on her special day
The two dance together in front of the crowd, Athanasia clumsily steps on Claude’s foot and almost falls but Claude saves the dance by lifting her up into the air. He chuckles at Athanasia’s mess up, finally acknowledging no matter how similar Athanasia and Diana look, they are still different. The crowd applauds their dance, he tells Athanasia to stop worrying as she looks perfect which leaves her and the crowd in disbelief. The second song ends and Claude suggests she should go greet the guests. Athanasia bids him goodbye and he watches as she disappears off into the crowd.
Athanasia and Ijekiel dance together and she finds Claude directing a fierce, terrifying glare at Ijekiel. The balls winds down and Claude contemplates heading home for the night, Athanasia catches up to him. He inquires why Athanasia wants to leave with him when she was looking forward to the ball, and if anyone said anything that upset her. Claude threatens to torture the people who dare insult her. She claims she came looking for Claude since she wanted to be with her father which seems to quell his temper.
Jennette arrives with Athanasia’s missing dress ribbon. After introducing herself, Claude deduces she is the child Roger Alpheus took in and raised. Once they are outside, he disposes of the dirtied ribbon, promising to give her plenty more ribbons if she desires. Roger congratulates him on the special day and points out how everyone is talking about Claude personally escorting the princess which isn’t a common sight. He states that if Claude has other children then he would no doubt love them as he does with Athanasia and also inquires if he could introduce him to his niece, Jennette. The Emperor dismisses it as useless speculation and finds it unlike Roger to raise a child that isn’t his own. Claude puts an end to the conversation, not wanting to be disturbed in the time spent with his daughter. Upon reaching the carriage, Claude congratulates his daughter for her 14th birthday as well as becoming a debutante. The night ends with Athanasia laughing as she already received many congratulations before him.

Some time pass, the two head outside and go on a boat ride together, he warns her to not get too close to the water. Athanasia asks to see the water lotus up close so he uses his magic to lift the flower from the water. He freezes it so she can take her time examining it. Horrified to find the beautiful lotus has ugly tentacles beneath it, she screams and throws herself at Claude causing the both of them to fall into the water. He pulls her out of the water and dries her clothes with magic, promising to not do that again.
Claude abruptly wakes up on high alert with a fierce and sharp gaze due to someone disturbing his sleep. After discerning the intruding figure as Athanasia, he lowers his guard. Now awake, he orders Felix to fetch some tea and the knight notices a pink rose on his head, Felix compliments his look. Athanasia swiftly shoves a plethora of flowers into his arms to distract him. As she massages his shoulders, Athanasia curiously asks why there is no one guarding the entrance to Claude’s bedroom. Claude seamlessly answers a protection spell has been placed so anyone with ill intent who enters will be ripped to shred, he also placed one on Athanasia when she was young for her protection.
Claude doesn’t remember Athanasia
During one of Athanasia’s tea party, Claude comes across Jennette who accidentally wandered into his garden. Jennette inquires if he remembers her and Claude responds coldly why should he remember her face. Claude spares her after deducing she is one of Athanasia’s esteemed guests but warns her there will be severe consequences if she is caught wandering again. Claude addresses he overheard Ijekiel gifted Athanasia a bird and trespassed into Athanasia’s private library. Felix remarks as Athanasia inherited Diana’s beauty she would one day get married, leaving Claude alone. Athanasia asks if she has to get married. Claude states there are no laws making it mandatory and Athanasia replies Claude would always be her favourite person regardless if she got married or not — this appears to elevate Claude’s mood.
At one point, Athanasia queries if she really resembles her mother. Claude averts his gaze and claims he has long forgotten the likes of a dead person’s face. Athanasia confesses to Claude she has a wish, a wish only he can do for her. Claude examines the gift and ponders why Athanasia would ask for such a thing. A maid rushes in exclaiming something terrible happened to the princess. Athanasia wakes up and discovers she had fallen into a 10 day coma. Later, she finds out Claude risked his life to save hers and he too, fell into a 10 day coma. Upon waking up, Claude glares coldly at Athanasia and questions who she is.
Season 2 [ ]
Claude visits Athanasia’s rose garden
Claude questions why Felix appears as if he aged 10 years. After Felix informs him of the coma, Claude interrogates Athanasia. He states he doesn’t remember having an offspring but acknowledges she does indeed have the eyes of the royal bloodline and threatens to gouge it out. Noticing his protection mana inside Athanasia, he gets up but ends up throwing up blood and collapsing. He spares Athanasia’s life but only under the condition she should never leave her palace. After that, Felix spends days trying to make Claude remember Athanasia, exclaiming he risked his life to save the princess. Baffled, Claude thinks to himself his brother would crawl out of the grave to laugh at him. Felix tries to further convince him by mentioning the chair in Claude‘s office that Athanasia would sit on to watch him work, the private library he had ordered to be built for her as well as a rose garden to be planted in every corner of the palace because they were her favourite flowers.
He orders him to leave but finds Athanasia‘s old drawings preserved by magic hidden behind a curtain in his room, much to Felix’s awe who never knew Claude had been treasuring her drawings secretly. Felix shows off the portrait Claude had commissioned of Athanasia and himself. Noticing the soft expression he depicts in the painting, he reminiscences his childhood where his expression became colder as he grew older. He wonders to himself since when did he have such an expression and concludes Athanasia is a witch who has cast a spell on him. His head begins to throb when he remembers the ‘wish’ that Athanasia wanted which only he could give; a portrait with him like the portraits of the other imperial families in their galleries. Ever since then, Claude has become plagued with a serious case of insomnia.

As he struggles to sleep, Claude tells Diana’s ghost she chose to die without his permission and he has no memories of having a daughter; therefore he has no reason to love her. As she disappears, Claude hugs her and begs her to not leave.
At Claude’s birthday party, the guests inquire about the whereabouts of princess Athanasia, hoping to witness the close relationship between the emperor and his daughter once again. He commands the guards to bring Athanasia to him immediately and have her kneel before him in front of the whole banquet. When Felix attempts to speak up, Claude threatens execution. He announces that the wench kneeling in front of him is neither his daughter nor a princess and orders for her to be taken away. As the knights grab the princess, Athanasia orders them to let her go, causing lightning sparks to ignite as a result of her magic which takes Claude and Felix by surprise. Since she did not permit them to lay a hand on her, she calmly states she will leave with her own two feet before giving a cold stare. She curtsies elegantly in front of her father, wishing His Majesty a happy birthday.
After that, Claude storms into his room as his head begins to throb when remembering her cold stare and he wonders why it felt as if he lost something important. Claude doesn’t sleep for days yet his mind is clear so he decides to get rid of the root of his headache. He crosses paths with Athanasia in the garden, stating he should have killed her when he first saw her otherwise he wouldn’t have been suffering from a persistent headache. He attempts to kill Athanasia with his magic but is unable to do so due to the protection magic placed upon her. The magic backfires on him and Athanasia disappears with tears in her eyes telling him goodbye. One hand bleeding, Claude demands his guards to locate her and bring her to him. [15]
The aftermath of Claude renouncing Athanasia as his daughter
During her disappearance, missing posters are placed around town under his order to discover her whereabouts. At night, Athanasia visits Claude while he is sleeping. He wakes up to Athanasia moving his hair and then tells her she had been showing up continuously in his dreams, at least she is silent today. When Claude replies he wishes to rip her to shreds, Athanasia retorts she doesn’t want to die by her father’s hands. Shocked to see Athanasia wasn’t another one of his dreams, he calls out for as she bids him goodbye and teleports out of the room. [16]
At some point, Jennette discovers Claude’s unconscious body on the palace garden floor. He stirs awake and recalls seeing Athanasia disguised as a maid rush to his side. His throbbing headache lessens in Jennette’s presence and Felix arrives to escort Claude back. Claude grants an audience with Jennette to see her again. [17] At their tea time together, Jennette attempts to strike up a conversation with him but he falls asleep in her presence. After she leaves, his headache returns. He orders for another private meeting with Jennette. [18] During their next meeting, Claude comes to a realisation whenever he is with Jennette, his headache disappears but he doesn’t understand why, unaware Athanasia was secretly watching them. Every time he meets up with Jennette, Claude falls asleep in her presence. [19]
Some time later, Jennette queries if he misses the princess, Claude responds he wishes to see her again and he informs Felix he will no longer try to harm Athanasia so he should look for her properly this time rather than fake searching for her whereabouts. [20] As father and daughter reunite, Claude inquires about her well-being. When Athanasia asks why he is asking such curious questions, he confesses he doesn’t know why and he feels uncomfortable whenever he sees her face. Overwhelmed with a sudden headache, he orders Athanasia to leave and to stay in the Emerald palace in the meantime. Once she leaves, Claude instructs Felix to bring Jennette again to ease his headache. [21]
The remnants of black magic surrounding Claude
After the magician’s return, Lucas examines his sleeping form and draws to a conclusion Claude is dying. [22] As Lucas heals his body, he realises Claude is cursed as punishment for tampering with dark magic. Athanasia’s magic reverted his body back to the past, to a time when his black magic was still alive. [23] Since Lucas healed his body, Claude can sleep as he used to and Athanasia greets him every morning. Athanasia drinks Lippe tea for the first time after a long time and states it tastes like flowers blooming in her mouth, Claude recalls Diana’s words and is overcome with another headache. Athanasia force feeds him a cake and a look of disgust spreads across his face. He orders Felix and Athanasia to leave the room. [24] As Claude mulls over the talk of family, he reminiscences an old childhood memory with Anastacius. In his memory, he seeks out his brother after being hit by Anastacius’ mum, he discovers Anastacius entranced by a mysterious figure and he calls out his name. As if waking up from a trance, Anastacius promises Claude he will play with him again one day.
The next time they meet, Jennette joins them in their tea time, the latter brings a box of chocolate for them to try and after watching Athanasia eat an almond chocolate, he tries out the same chocolate as her despite his dislike for sweet things. [25] Later, Claude appears to experience an unpleasant sensation as if his dad’s senses are going off while Athanasia interacts with Ijekiel and Lucas. [26] On a sunny day, Athanasia suggests they should go out onto the lake, and Claude appears to no longer be irked by Athanasia referring to him as ‘dad.’ She suggests inviting Jennette as well and after her leave, Claude ponders over the dangers of going out on the lake. Felix reminds him the cannibalistic plant in the lake was already removed by his order in the past and points out his worry over the princess though Claude is dismissive of the statement. [27] During their boat ride, Jennette falls into the water and he makes no attempt to save her. He stops Athanasia from jumping into the water to save the girl, out of concern she will get soaked. In the end, he saves Jennette under Athanasia’s demands. Jennette thanks him for rescuing her but he is aloof towards her gratitude. [28]
Diana refuses to leave Claude’s side
Soon after, Claude and Athanasia sit together in his office in silence while they work. He notices Athanasia staring at him from deep in thought and inquires if he used to help her study in the past. He teaches and explains the solution to her problem and compliments her skill and intellect. Claude states Athanasia appears to take her studies seriously and to not try too hard. Athanasia questions if Claude used to enjoy studying and he recalls his past lessons with Anastacius. In response to her question, Claude replies he doesn’t know as he never thought about it. Athanasia then attempts to demonstrate what Lucas has been teaching her and she accidentally causes the paper from her book to fly everywhere in his face. He demonstrates the correct way to use her magic and Athanasia immediately gets her magic right on her second attempt thanks to Claude’s gentle guidance. He smiles earnestly at her happiness. Straight after, he orders her to leave as another painful headache sets in again. In his room, he reflects on his past with Athanasia and struggles to remember her, he wonders why a child he planned to abandon is still at his side and he ruminates on Diana’s promise to stay by his side. Claude thinks to himself Athanasia inherited Diana’s cheeky side. [29]
Season 3 [ ]
On one sunny day, Athanasia suggests moving their tea time inside as it is too hot outside. As she turns to leave, Claude catches a scalding hot tea cup Athanasia accidentally knocks over, burning himself in the process. Despite being unfazed, Athanasia frets over his burn and instructs a maid to escort Jennette home. [30] Their next tea reunion draws to an abrupt end when he is rendered unconscious by Jennette’s bracelet, hexed by Anastacius to bring about his death. [31] Although the royal magicians are unable to find anything after examining him, Lucas detects faint traces of mana waves and begins monitoring his health from that point on as a promise to Athanasia. [32] Without a person in charge to manage the governmental affairs, the threat of the nobility revolting against the crown looms over them so Athanasia temporarily takes on the emperor’s duties. Meanwhile, the truth becomes warped as an anonymous informant spreads rumours regarding his declining health amongst high society. [33]

Although strict at times, Lilian can be regarded as having a profound amount of love and care with matters regarding Athanasia. For example, in her earlier years as an imperial maid, Lilian confronts the head maid of the Ruby Palace on Athanasia’s behalf. This incident resulted in Lilian’s promotion to head maid.
Disoriented from the sudden disappearance of the young Princess Athanasia, Lilian and the maids of the Ruby Palace were shocked to find her returned to them in the arms of the Emperor’s royal guard. The distressed Lilian held the girl closely, glaring defensively at the young man who retrieved her. However, when informed that the Emperor would be visiting the princess, their mood softened. [5] The following morning, both Lilian and Athanasia were called upon by the Emperor. There, the announcement is given that the Emperor will be managing matters regarding the princess. A trembling Lilian embraced Athanasia outside the throne room, whispering words of comfort in the young girl’s ear. Later, when Lilian voices her concern for Athanasia, her worries are shot down almost instantly by Claude. [6] Though soon after, her fears become a reality as Athanasia is returned to her side, drenched and gasping for breath. [7] After the princess’s recovery from sickness, she and Lilian are greeted with new palace workers and the arrival of Athanasia’s new personal guard, Felix Robane. [8]
While sitting leisurely and playing with the princess, Lilian recalls Diana. Describing her features in vivid detail for Athanasia, Lilian becomes concerned when the princess mentions her longing for her late mother. [9] Troubled greatly by the detachment Athanasia must have felt, Lilian joins Felix in a hunt for heirlooms or memorials left behind by Diana. Turning up nothing, Felix concludes that they must ask the Emperor, though, they are stopped on their way by a distressed Athanasia. Somber words leave the young girl’s mouth as she screams of her father’s hatred towards her mother. A harrowing look lined Lilian’s face as tears welled in her eyes. Felix reassured the child, though Athanasia seemed reluctant to speak any further on the topic, running away from the pair. Throughout that night, Lilian sat at Athanasia’s bedside, attempting to console the troubled princess. [10]
When Athanasia collapsed in the garden of the Emperor’s palace at the age of seven, Lilian was distraught. With the fear that the young princess may never awaken, Lilian was elated to hear when she finally awakened after nearly two months. [11]
Even as time twisted about, Lilian’s motherly love for Athanasia remained a constant. The lengthy compliments of beauty or intelligence were never-ending and everlasting. Though this maid still followed the wishes of her commander, holding the respectability of the princess above all else.
Season 2 [ ]
After the instigation of another mana explosion, Athanasia and the Emperor both fell unconscious for a grueling ten days. Lilian cradled the newly awoken Athanasia de Alger Obelia, waiting for her even as she wept to her motionless father. [12] She stood beside the princess at Claude’s awakening, crediting her as the only child of the Emperor. Though, the time he had been asleep was seemingly much longer than anticipated, as the Emperor found himself struck with a severe case of amnesia.
Saddened to deliver more disheartening news, Lilian reluctantly informs the princess of Raven’s disappearance. [13] She continues to attend to Athanasia closely, worried greatly for the princess’ well-being. Lilian is relieved as the princess slowly begins to act as usual, taking her advice. However, that relief is short-lived as, soon after, princess Athanasia is attacked by her father, fleeing before facing death at his hands. And so, the harrowing search for the princess began. [14]
A lonesome Lilian struggles to relax in the face of Athanasia’s disappearance. [15] Yet, in the blink of an eye, before her appears the girl she sought. The princess had returned. Embracing Athanasia, Lilian quickly checks her condition, though her relief is quickly shot down. As swiftly and quietly as she had come, she must leave. [16]
Following the return of Athanasia, Lilian’s concerns grew to the extreme as she witnesses the allure of romance threatening the princess. [17] Although, Lilian and Felix do share pieces of their pasts to aid Athanasia in her romantic struggles. [3]
Season 3 [ ]
Sometime later, the emperor fell into a coma yet again. Inconsistencies in his condition sent Athanasia de Alger Obelia in a spiral of grief and Lilian desired to ease her heavy mind. [18]

Lilian was Athanasia’s nanny, a person deeply trusted and beloved by the young princess. In the original story «Lovely Princess», Lilian was the only one who stayed loyal towards Athanasia until the very end.
Diana [ ]
Lilian first saw Diana dancing at a royal banquet where she was deeply affected by her carefree nature. When Diana died, Lilian courageously begged Claude de Alger Obelia to let her take care of the Princess that Lady Diana left behind.
Felix Robane [ ]
Although Athanasia had thought that the two often resembled newlyweds, the relationship between the two was not so. Felix could recall many instances where he’d meet Lilian in a formal setting, most of which would proceed with a light greeting or conversation. Lilian would frequently stand with or beside Felix during these events, something that Lilian had instigated to avoid the prying eyes of young gentlemen. [3]
