Do you know HOW to cook?
My Mom and Dad taught me how to cook at an early age, I would say around 11 or 12. Fried oysters, bacon and eggs, cornbread, baked grilled cheese and fried chicken were just a few of the first recipes I learned (I’m from the South, can you tell?) Their early teachings cultivated a love of food and of cooking. I’d like to know from whomever answers this forum, can you cook, and if so what do you like to cook the most? If you can’t cook, why?
Yes,I can cook. But occasionally.
As a Brit growing up in the 70’s our food was bland, and I mean bland. Meat and two veg most nights. Then I discovered the galloping gourmet on TV, I’ve loved cooking ever since and loved trying new things. So, yeah, I can cook.
Yes, I can cook and so can all of my family, we love to sit around a table and eat a meal that one of us has prepared for the rest of us.
I have even cooked pasta for Italians, which was either a brave or foolish thing to do.
My recipes are based on English, Greek and Italian meals. I grow my own fruit and vegetables so some of our meals are based on what is in season here.
Yes, I can cook, but I don’t cook every night. I take it you mean, ‘cook’, and not stick something in the microwave or throw frozen food into a pan.
Most of our meals are Mediterranean style. Lots of fish, fresh veggies, pastas, legumes, breads, fruits. I’ve learned some traditional Greek dishes from a 100% Greek woman. She doesn’t speak English! Her food is amazing.
Like you, I’m a great southern cook. I even have my own cooking website! We also do a lot of BBQing, grilling, and smoking. This weekend, we’re having folks over for smoked butts, pork loin, ribs, and sausage by the pool. I’m just getting ready to rub the butts!
You had me at smoked butt!! LOL! So how was it?
I love to cook, too, am from the South and will share more on another day when I have more time. Love your topic and the comments thus far!
Yep, I can cook. Filipino, Asian food, European and of course German as I am living here. I love it when all the family members are at the table telling what they have done for the day. Well, in the Philippines. Germans don´t talk to much at dinner time.
Yes, I can cook. Being a strict vegetarian I cook all vegetarian dishes.
I sure do hope so, it has been paying the bills for the last 10 years
I know how to cook. When I was younger I would help my mom prep things like seafood, vegetables, meat, etc. So I always knew how to do things like peel shrimp or cut bell peppers. I really didn’t get into cooking until the summer before my last year of college. I’d make recipes, remember things I grew up with, or just improvise. I don’t specialize in anything, I just make what anyone’s interested in eating.
I’ll never go hungry.
I can cook, but tend to stick to the same dishes most of the time, because they are what I do best. Shepherd’s pie has to be my best dish.
Shepherds pie has nothing on cottage pie.
I love to cook! I started when I was 9 years old, and my first dish was Shrimp Creole. My mother cleaned the shrimp and I did everything else under her direction. My father was a chemist, and I even have a food blog (practical food science, mostly, dealing with the way ingredients combine and what to do with them when you’ve done it). I was, for a while, a chef in a French restaurant in France. (They told everyone I was kitchen help because they didn’t want to admit an American was cooking the meals.)
Yes, and I love it too. I learn by watching my mom cook when I was about 9 years old. At first, I helped her chopped onion and garlic, later on I was cooking on my own. I love discovering new recipes and trying the recipes of other country.
I love it. My hobby is doing lot of experiments on various dishes. I do it in those dishes which I know very well to cook. Those who tried my dishes used to say that it is OK, but I rarely like my own creations. Sometimes every thing will come perfect and buy tasting it I experience a sweet rare feeling, may be of satisfaction or proud or something like that. Anyway it is great to know some dishes to cook rather than an omelet. I even published some of recipes through HubPages and this is great community to share articles.
My husband and I both love to cook. I’m the baker and he’s the griller. We share time at the stove. I love to try my hand at ethnic foods from other cultures and he excels at down home cooking. We rarely eat out and when we do, I’m always disappointed. It’s never as good as home made.
I love to cook. I create my own recipes 🙂
I try all kinds of cuisines and I love that about me.
After 4 years of marriage, I have become a good cook. I mean it. I can cook a lot of things, One of the special dishes I cook very well is Biriyani. Besides, I can cook different fishes, mutton, chicken, beaf, and most of the regular meals of Bangladeshi People. Bangladesh is a country in Asia.

Is it really worth it to cook for just one and if so do you have some recipes to prove it?Cooking for just one (not including the dogs) sometimes just seems like it’s not worth it. Although I would love to have some homemade lasagna, meatballs, stuffed pork chops, (ok I have to stop now I’m.

IELTS Speaking Part 1: Cooking
1. What are some of the things that you can cook?
I am not a skilled cook, I only know the basics, like fried egg and boiled veggies. The sad thing is, I can’t even make these dishes very well. Most of the time, they would be either undercooked or burnt.
2. Do you like cooking?
I am not interested in cooking, nor do I have a gift for it. However, I do enjoy watching cooking shows on TV, Master Chef for example, since I love seeing footage of food being prepared.
3. How often do you cook?
I don’t cook on a daily basis; just when my mom, who is in charge of cooking, is on a business trip. To me, cooking is not a pleasure, but rather a chore, so I don’t do it very often.
4. What dishes are you best at cooking?
I can proudly say that instant noodles is my signature dish. I have cooked it so many times that I know all the necessary techniques to make a restaurant-quality bowl of noodles.
5. Does anyone in your family like to cook?
My mom is very keen on cooking. She loves experimenting with new ingredients and collecting recipes on the internet. Her home-cooked meals are not only full of nutrition, but also appetizing. My brother and I like her cooking so much that we rarely eat out.
6. Do your parents know how to cook?
My mother has a knack for cooking. She always does a good job at seasoning, and her knife-work is no joke. My dad, on the other hand, knows nothing about cooking except for frying eggs.
7. Do you think that it’s important to know how to cook well?
As much as I hate to cook, I must admit that people who can cook well, especially girls, are very charming. It often means that they can take good care of themselves and those around them.
8. Who is the best cook you know?
I don’t know much about the culinary world, so I can’t name any famous chef. To me, the best cook is no one other than my mom. She knows the recipes for almost all dishes like the back of her hand, and her food is always so tasty.
9. What cooking experience have you had?
Like I mentioned before, I don’t cook very often. The only memorable cooking experience I had was when my mom sent me to a short cookery course. I got a minor burn right on the first day, so my mom pulled me out immediately.
10. Who taught you to cook?
My grandmother was my cooking teacher, as I spent most of my childhood in her kitchen. She was skilled at making the dishes not only taste good but also look good. For example, she taught me the art of vegetable carving and table setting, which I still remember clearly.
11. When you were a child, did you ever help your parents to prepare a meal?
Yes, I did, but rather than cooking, I helped my parents with simple chores, like washing the vegetables and setting the table. I enjoyed such times, since it was a great bonding opportunity for my family.
