Hollow Knight
I was at 111% in 27-30h before my save was corrupted. I think it would take me 5-10h to beat the rest. So on average i would say between 35 and 50h which is huge for a Metroidvania.
135 hours, having finished everything except for the final two Pantheons in Godmaster.
Just started playing.
I must call BS on all the assertions in this thread that say HK is a long game.
There are Achievements for this game that objectively prove that it isn’t, but rather that it’s extremely short.
I.e.
Speedrun 1
Complete the game in under 10 hours
Speedrun 2
Complete the game in under 5 hours
So basically, that’s official confirmation that it’s a 5 hour game, as by publishing that Achievement, the devs officially endorsed the idea that it can and should be beaten under 5 hours.
Link that proves what I just said:
Yes, you can spend a lot more time in the game than 5 hours. But that’s not because the game is long. No, that’s because you don’t know where to go or what items need to bypass obstacles that prevent you from progressing, or where exactly to go to use which particular items on which particular obstacles that they bypass.
Consequently, the game forces you aimelessly to derp around the world until you happen to stumble upon the correct place you are supposed to be based on the items you currently have. That process wastes of a lot of time by causing you to have to constantly keep re-treading over the same ground which you’ve already been to. So that’s not actually part of the game length.

Technically, if you’re «speedrunning» you can beat the game in under 30 minutes. You have to cheat to do it, but you can. However, that’s not what the OP is asking for.
Also yes, the game makes you explore and revisit areas, it’s a Metroidvania game. You still gotta have the built up practice to do the platforming and combat, that sure takes up a lot of the time too.

Yet you also ignore the fact that only 1.3% of players even have that speedrun 2 achievement and 1.7% with the speedrun 1 achievement
Also achievements have been proven to never be a viable source of info on a game’s stats.
Also way to ignore the fact that multiple of the achievements encourage exploring and multiple playthroughs
Yes the game can be completed in under 5 hours, it’s optional and not required and more for a fun thing than a must like you try to say it is. Metroidvanias in general can be completed in under 5 hours and less if you know what you’re doing and can preform the tricks and shortcuts to doing so but the main point is exploration even if is «aimlessly depring around»(which is the fun of the genre)
Also you’re the same person who made a thread whining about losing geo when dying and asking for a save anywhere feature then running away when people explain to you why that’s a nonsensical idea for this kind of game. Seriously you really do not know a thing about metroidvanias. Ignorance is bliss

How Long Does It Take To Beat Hollow Knight?
The deceptively simple Metroidvania «Hollow Knight» thrilled backers when it delivered on the promises of its Kickstarter campaign and launched in 2017, but the game never caught much mainstream attention. Despite that, it received strong reviews and became one of the best titles that many gamers missed that year.
What made «Hollow Knight» so special? The developers, Team Cherry, designed an easy to approach world that incorporated combat elements as challenging and rewarding as some of the best «Souls» titles, with some especially hard bosses capping off the game. Those enemies made the game feel tense, but the entire experience was balanced by friendly NPC encounters that made the world feel simultaneously inviting and worth fighting for.
A big part of surviving «Hollow Knight» involves learning how to navigate and explore its massive world, which can take a lot of time. For anyone who is thinking about running through the first game before the sequel, «Hollow Knight: Silksong,» comes along, here is how long it takes to beat «Hollow Knight.»
You can double your time if you want to find everything
Gamers looking to follow the «Hollow Knight» storyline to its conclusion should be ready to invest some time. Team Cherry announced as much shortly after the game went live, when the team published a Kickstarter update that measured an average playthrough of the main storyline at 25 hours.
Achieving 100% in the game is another matter. Team Cherry found that many players hit that mark in around 40 hours, but individual experiences have varied. Fans on Reddit have listed a wide range of times, with some reporting 35 to 50 hours to beat the story without a guide and others logging up to 80 hours to find everything the game had to offer.
According to the crowdsourced data published on HowLongToBeat, most «Hollow Knight» runs land somewhere in the middle. That site lists the average main story playthrough at slightly over 27 hours, whereas a completionist effort is listed as 60 hours. So while it does seem like there is a high degree of variance from player to player, one thing is certain: making it to the end of «Hollow Knight» will take some time.

Hollow Knight
It’s a big game, and there’s lots of reasons to play on after reaching an «ending». I think you could easily find yourself playing for 40 or more hours before considering your first playthrough to be complete and considering restarting. Replaying from the beginning is fun, and surprisingly challenging, after you’re used to having all the upgrades and have to go back to not having them, and there are all sorts of extra challenges.
I recommend you stay out of the discussions and away from videos and guides until you’ve had a chance to experience at least the main story for yourself. Discovery is a huge part of enjoyment.
Replay values? I erased the damn game and I still dream about beating bosses in this game. I can still hear the sound of your sword squishing when it hits enemy. I played the game for over 100+ and got 112% completion (highest possible) and wanted to stop playing so I erased the game. But you can’t stop playing. You never stop playing it. You always want to go back to it because it’s so much fun.

40 hours is reasonable. The thing is atm I’m looking for a game that I can play for long. I dont want to jump between short games anymore. Hopefully this game can hold my attention
If you want to beat everything, you might go over 100+ in one save. This game’s difficulty is punishing at the last end game bosses. The ultimate challenge are Path of Pain and Pantheon of Hallownest.
Path of Pain tests your reflex and your precision and the ability to juggle yourself precisely for minutes on on.
Pantheon of Hallownest is a gauntlet of 47 boss rush with one new final boss exclusive to that boss rush.
This game will eat your sleep for months.
How long does it take to beat the game on your first playthrough?
Depends on the person. Hollow Knight is rather a unique game which is very non-linear starting at some point in the story. It’s designed as a mystery exploration game which everyone plays on their own pace and choose what they do or don’t do in the order they will discover things in the game world and how difficult the challenges are.
85–90% of the game’s content is entirely optional. Only you choose to do it or not.
In fact, you need to only defeat 16% of the game’s bosses and have only 20% Game Completion to see the credits for the first time.
Even the first boss is entirely optional. If you see something too difficult (at the time you find it) most likely you can just go somewhere else, gain experience, abilities and upgrades, and return later (or not at all).
And does this game has replay value?
Lots of. Every playthrough can be different based on your path and knowledge you have gained. There are lots of optional challenges and achievements to pursue to make it even more interesting. There are 3 choices in the game which can only be made on a single save file, each one gives different outcomes. To see the alternatives you need to play at least twice.
Do you feel like starting a new run after you have beaten the game?
I’ve started at least 4 new save files to play the game just for fun and complete achievements before I run out of steam. Very very few games in my life had a similar effect on me.
After that, I programmed a useful Tool for the community and made two Steam Guides. It was all inspiration which started from the love of the game.
wow that’s intriguing. I think I will buy the game and try out. If I dont like it I can refund (hopefully not)
2h refund period will most likely not let you enjoy the game at its full. Prepare to play at least 5x the time to see why people really love it. Like someone wrote here, Ori ends after 10 hours, Hollow Knight starts after 10 hours. But of course the time depends on the individual. For me it was true, and only after
10h I realized I love this game.

False Champion has a pattern to him that once you realise, makes the fight easier. He always either jumps back, jumps straight up, or jumps forward. If he jumps back, he’s going to do 1-3 shockwave attacks, then 99% jump forward. Jump over the shockwaves then dash under him (this’ll let you avoid the falling debris pretty well as well).
Usually, when he jumps straight up or forward, dash under him. When he jumps backwards, get away from him and get ready to dodge the debris and the shockwaves. Using this method, extra HP charms, and Fragile Strength, I could beat him in 3-5 tries. Quick Slash helps, too.
What is it that you’re having troubles with in the arena?

Nah, It’s just that I play on a pretty old laptop that I can’t do a 15 min run without getting a stuttering.
Aaannddd this stuff requires a lot of practice that can’t be done within that 15 min 🙁
