A. Christ’s Hospital school was founded in the 16th century. Its uniform at that time consisted of a long blue coat, a leather belt and yellow socks. Today students still wear the same uniform because they think it’s a symbol that unites them. There was some talk about making the uniform more modern but it was decided to keep the original uniform.
B. The Dublin College of English offers one, two or three week Football and English Programmes. They are for young people who are interested in both learning English with native speakers and practising football. The students enjoy the friendly, inspiring atmosphere in the classrooms, after which they improve their skills on the school football pitch.
C. Harrow is a prestigious boys’ school in northern London with a strict uniform policy. You can easily recognise a Harrow student by his hat, which is part of the uniform. All boys have to wear their hats every day when going to or from lessons. Some students are allowed to wear a different scarf, tie or jumper but the hat should always be there. Wearing it remains a must.
D. One of the recent trends is the growing number of elderly students in universities and colleges. It is believed that the elderly and the young can benefit from studying in a mixed class. The older ones are quicker at detailed and logical tasks. On the other hand, younger students can often help their older classmates with new gadgets and technologies.
E. When it comes to studying English abroad, try to get as much information about the school as possible. Asking the right questions will help you save money, time, and avoid culture shock. Remember that the school should provide you both with good teaching and with an unforgettable experience so besides everyday classes, social activities should be part of the programme.
F. In most British schools children start studying a foreign language at 11, but many are happy to give up languages completely at 14. Research suggests that students think that it is more difficult to get good marks in Modern Foreign Languages than in other subjects such as Science or History. They also say that foreign languages are less fun than other lessons like PE or Art.

7 Benefits to Blogging in the Classroom
“To blog is to share, to connect, to create, to inspire.”
Blogging with your students in the classroom can be a fun and positive way to connect and share with parents on a regular basis. There are also many educational benefits that your students can gain from blogging. This blog will outline 7 benefits to classroom blogging and also some suggested platforms that you could explore.
1.Parent Communication
Parents want to be continuously informed about what their child is learning about, what they did at school that day and how they are going in class. Especially in the early years. They also love to see photos of their child in their learning environment.
It’s great to get into the habit of taking a few photos or a short video each day. It doesn’t take long and helps maintain open communication between home and school. At the end of the day or at the end of the week, post the photos and videos on a classroom blog with a summary of the learning that took place. It might be a fun English or Maths task or a whole class activity. Encourage parents to comment on the post and provide opportunities for students to reply.
2. Internet Safety
Through the use of a classroom blog, teaching opportunities for informing students about cyber safety will naturally occur.
Instead of a stand alone lesson, the teaching of cyber safety should be an ongoing conversation with your students. When these opportunities take place, discuss with your students the importance of being safe online and how to be a responsible member of an online community. Discuss with your students how to keep themselves safe online and what to do if they are presented with an unsafe situation.
3. Improved Literacy Skills
By setting up a classroom blog and expecting students to participate, blogging can increase literacy skills and engagement. Blogging provides students with a purpose to write, which in turn encourages them to produce higher quality work.
Blogs are also a perfect tool for teaching spelling, grammar and language conventions. By editing a blog together with your class, students are able to understand the importance of self-correcting before publishing to an online community.

A blog provides students the opportunity to reach a wider audience, such as their parents, other students or teachers in the school, or people from an outside community. Students are able to receive immediate feedback, increasing their level of engagement and self-improvement.
6. Sense of Community
A sense of community can be created in the classroom by working together to write a blog.
Blogging as a whole class requires great teamwork and collaboration. Students need to work together as a team and agree on the content in order to create an engaging and interesting blog post that represents their class. When a class has a sense of community, students feel like they have a purpose in the classroom environment, increasing their level of engagement.
7. Global Connection
One of the most exciting benefits blogging provides children is the opportunity to connect with other students, classrooms and schools across the globe.

So I’ve spent the past few months with GCSE and A-level classes doing absolutely no writing at all beyond sample tests and student blogs.
Students realise how high the bar of public domain writing is. This can be initially intimidating, but that removes all apathy or sense of the humdrum. Asking all students to write blogs as learning unfolds and interlinks empowers the teacher to be more supportive because they’re less tied to the bureaucracy; it raises challenge levels; it enables IT-skilling; it lets students see their own progress and differentiates well; it means more productive and accelerating learning-talk over rote-writing.
This is all massively more powerful, and infinitely easier, than collecting exercise books for monitoring and restricting peer-feedback within the classroom, and a source of far less hassle/conflict than fixed small-scale written homeworks with exact deadlines. Parents can be directed to helpful information, to the evidence of what their child has achieved, and to comparative students’ work from within the same class.
None of the risks justify avoiding student blogging. Defamatory/provocative remarks are a behavioural issue, not a technological one: don’t deprive all of an exciting outlet because of the remote possibility of misuse by a tiny few. Others may worry that student work is too weak. But where better than a blog to show the arc of individual development? Student bloggers are not meant to be the finished article (I’m not sure most professional bloggers are!); what we’re looking for is emulation of, and participation in, a global community of discussion, however fledgling their efforts. Plagiarism is, surprisingly, not a problem. I’ve had one incidence of this all year: a discreet, firmly-worded email explaining copyright law to the student (copied to the parental email) and the post was swiftly amended.
