Teacher asks students to look at ex 2 p 48 and ask questions

The students ask and answer the questions:

2. Expressions of quantity

Teacher focuses on the countable nouns and explains the usage of ‘many, a few, a lot of’. Then asks to talk to a partner about the food in the picture

The students read the sentences and say the food in the picture

3. Speaking skills practice

Teacher encourages the students to ask and answer questions about what there is in the picture in pairs

The students work in pairs

4. Writing skills practice

Encourage the students to practice

1. Underline the correct word.

1) They’re going away for a few / a little days.

2) I think you’ve put too many / too much sugar in your tea.

We need a relationship between price of pears and that of apples to solve the question.

STAT1
1p = 0.5 + 1a
But this relationship is not sufficient to answer because
price of 5 pounds of apples = 5p = 5*0.5 + 5a but we cannot tell for sure about the exact pounds of apples we can buy

STAT2
1p = 1.5*1a
This relationship is sufficient because
price of 5 pounds of apples = 5p = 5*1.5 *1a= 7.5a
so we know for sure that we can buy 7.5 pounds of apples with the same money.
So, Answer will be B

Can you please correct my approach of solving this question.

1 pound of apple cost x/5

1 pound of pear cost 3/2(x/5).

Here, now i thought that since x is still unknown its not sufficient.

Combining both also doesnt give value for x. Hence my answer was E which is incorrect,

Based on that user’s initial steps.

$X = cost of 5 pounds of apples
$X/5 = cost of 1 pound of apples

Fact 2 tells us that 1 pound of pears costs 1.5 times the cost of 1 pound of apples.

With some Algebra, we have.

(X/5) = cost of 1 pound of apples
(3/2)(X/5) = cost of 1 pound of pears
3X/10 = cost of 1 pound of pears

At this point, ankurjohar assumed that this was insufficient, but there’s still more work to do.

$X buys you 5 pounds of apples

st2: 1 pound of pears buys 1.5 pounds of apples (so to say you can change back your pears and receive apples instead). Hence 5 pounds of pears will buy 5*1.5 pounds of apples equals 7.5 pounds of apples

Ответил на все верно, но на десятый вопрос только за счет опыта. В десятом вопросе слово «tired» не является существительным. А статья вроде как про «употребление местоимений с существительными». И все примеры в статье тоже только с существительными. Может стоить добавить несколько примеров с прилагательными?

@Daria, да, в принципе, a lot (of) можно ставить вместо much/many во всех предложениях, как утвердительных, так и в вопросительных и отрицательных. Мы отредактировали тест соответственно. Спасибо, что обратили внимание.

во всех типах предложений вы можете ставить только a lot of и MANY… MUCH только с неисчисляемыми в отрицательных

@Daria, потому что
1) по смыслу — я немного устал.
2) если бы хотели сказать «сильно устал» — было бы «so much tired»
3) после a lot OF всегда стоит существительное.

Почему в 7 вопросе после «too» идёт «little»? Ведь в правилах написано, что после too, very, so можно употреблять только much (+ a lot of) и many.
Или сегодня все в интернете пишут, что хотят?

@Мария, ну конечно же, нельзя верить всему, что написано в Интернете, как говорится, доверяй, но проверяй.
В ваших правилах написано все верно, но это если слишком много. И, кстати, правильно будет too lot (‘ too a lot of ‘)
Но бывает же и слишком мало, как в нашем примере. Вот в этом случае и используется too little / too few (хотя последнее не так часто).
Есть даже поговорка — «too little, too late«, что означает примерно то же, что и русская поговорка «поздно пить боржоми»

Почему во втором когда я там сделала ошибку то он выдаёт два правельных ответа Many и a lot of хотя там можно выбрать только один вариант ответа?
