(Webspinner note: The below was sent to the webspinner address as a combined suicide note / suspension hanging reference. Since the author hasn’t contacted me again, I assume he sent the letter on a time delay, and was successful.)
«Steven»‘s Suspension Hanging Reference
Welcome, all of you. Whether you be suicidal folk, looking for a quick, sure, economical, and «painless» way to die, or are some conservative prick hoping to stifle my words. Perhaps you’re just curious about hanging, perhaps you want to murder someone, be you one, or all, welcome.
Real Disclaimer: I am YOU! I am not a doctor, and I am not qualified by any extent of the law (except amendment 1) to be telling you this. I may have forgotten some things, I may be wrong about some things, hell, I could be a sadist who gets his rocks off by knowing you’re going to fail, and hurt yourself. Accept, and understand that you cannot fully trust me.
I’m going to spare you the «Life is worth living bullshit.» If your life is worth living, you should know damn well it is. If you do this and at the last second, change your mind as you pass out, the world will not end. And if that does happen, parents and loved ones can rest easy knowing I will be having various uncomfortable objects shoved up my ass in hell. But, I digress.
I do not advocate suicide, but I do advocate suicidal people’s right to easy, painless, methods. Or, at least decent info that points them in the right direction. That is my intent here. Note that no amount of information in the world is going to give you the courage to carry out an act, no matter how easy it is. If you’ve come here looking for that info, you probably aren’t ready to die yet.. But, I digress
THE CAROTID ARTERY, NATURE’S EMERGENCY EXIT.
I can’t tell you how many nights I’ve lied lazily wallowing in self pity, thinking, ‘Goddammit, if only humans had a self destruct button. » Well, we don’t folks, but, we have something VERY close to just that. A very large vessel known as the Carotid artery, that’s sole purpose is to supply oxygen rich blood to the brain.
This artery will make or break you. Without that supply of blood to your brain you will be dead in minutes (brain death, more later) and be unconscious very rapidly.
Many of you may have done this in school, or somewhere else. You lean over, and let the blood rush to your head for a few seconds. Exhale, and quickly raise your head up and clasp your neck tightly. Shortly after that your vision will turn black, you may hallucinate a bit, and a few seconds later you’re conscious and all tingly. So, what causes this? 2 things. The obvious thing is that you are cutting off the blood supply to your brain by clasping your hands around your neck. But, try this without bending your head (neck, more specifically), and you’ll get the felling that blood is accumulating in your head, because it is. It will get very painful, very quick, and it will be a very long time before you pass out. And as all suicidal people know PAIN + TIME = BAD. You see, there is a little device in your neck that tells your heart how much pressure is needed to adequately supply your brain with blood. Now, this isn’t important for hanging, but for strangulation, this could mean the difference between life and death. Or the difference between a pale, peaceful corpse, and a grey bluish swollen hideous mass that used to be your pretty little head.
Well, I hope you’ve learned so far that, the carotid artery is the key to death here. Let’s move on to the questions.
SHOULD I HANG OR STRANGLE MYSELF, WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
001. Well, with a little more knowledge you will be able to answer this question yourself. For some, the thought of hanging seemed extremely traumatic, and painful. Strangulation seemed better. I was ignorant then, I’m assuming you are now. So, walk with me to the path of enlightenment. You’ve still got time to turn back.
So, what are the differences? In a nutshell, they are two sides of the same coin. Both involve, ideally, causing significant pressure to the carotid artery, and shutting off blood flow to the brain.
With strangulation, you rely on the tension of the rope, and knot around your neck, and the pressure is applied via friction, and constriction. (I don’t have a real good explanation, I know).
Suspension hanging compresses the Carotid artery by the pull of gravity, and the weight of your body.
Suspension hanging: the pressure is caused because your body being pulled downward, but the rope does not allow that.
Strangulation: the pressure is caused because you are not giving your artery enough room to allow the passage of blood.
So, basically, the difference is, friction in strangulation, gravity and friction in hanging. Other than that, the cause of death is identical (ideally).
IS THE TYPE OF ROPE IMPORTANT.
002. YES. The fact that I am here is proof that the type of rope is important. If you are going to hang yourself, you are going to need rope that will support MORE than your weight. Unless you are utterly mammoth (600 pounds+) this will not be difficult to find. Most any rope will do. Kite string will NOT work. As a general rule, if you can cut the rope with one clip of scissors, it will not work. Avoid electrical cords like the plague, if you plan on hanging. They will snap, even those thick orange extension cords.
Strangulation is a whole other ball of wax. You can use just about any rope, cord, or even thick string (twine). Comfort IS an issue, though. More on that later
HOW MUCH ROPE (LENGTH) DO I NEED.
003. How much rope (length) will I need? Not much. For suspension hanging, 2 feet more than your height should be plenty. For strangulation, 3-5 times the diameter of your neck. Gently wrap something around your neck 3-5 times. You have your length needed.
WHAT PLACE DOES A METAL RING HAVE IN HANGING?
004. You’ve got some attitude for a suicidal person, you know that? Sorry to answer a question with a question. anyway. The metal ring. This is something you probably won’t hear about anywhere else. This little gem will make hanging myself a lot more lethal, if done right. Make 2 loops around the ring. Then move the loops to opposite ends. You will notice a piece of slack, make that piece of slack face so that it will not come into contact with the neck, when the rope is applied. This does 2 great things. It takes pressure off the trachea (more later), and it increases pressure on the area you need pressure on, the sides of the neck. You aren’t going to need an exact measurement. But, from what I know, a little bigger than your trachea is better than a little smaller. (I could be wrong, I’m not completely sure on this) If you’re really in a bind, there is no foreseeable reason why a ring from your shower curtain shouldn’t work. Note 2 things if you do use a ring. The type of rope is important. Hard, stiff rope + ring = painful death, or no death at all. Use a soft rope, and lubricate it liberally with a bar of soap. The other thing to consider is that you will be creating very high tension with the addition of the ring. So make damn sure the rope can support more than your weight (more later). One more thing, the ring should NOT be used for strangulation.
IS THE LIGATURE (KNOT) IMPORTANT??
005. Is the ligature (knot) important? Yes, yes, it is. Very important. You might think that since you’re hanging, the hangman’s knot would be ideal. You’d be oh, so very wrong. A simple slip knot is ideal. This will allow the rope to tighten a great deal more than a hangman’s noose. I have no idea what knot is best for strangulation, consult Geo Stone’s site for good info (I have no affiliation with geo stone, or his book.). Check out the mentioning of a device that will allow for tightening of rope, and will not allow the rope to loosen. If memory serves me correctly, it is called a ‘stay tight’ and can be purchased at an auto supply store.
IS THE SUPPORT (PLACE YOU HANG FROM) IMPORTANT?
006. Of course it is. You will want to find a support that does 2 things.
I’M SKINNY/FAT, WHAT METHOD IS BEST?
007. I’m skinny/fat, what method is best? If you’re skinny, strangulation will probably be best. Hanging needs weight, and you don’t have it. Conversely, if you are fat, it’s going to be a lot harder to compress your neck, so use that blubber to drag you down. If you’re muscular, hanging would probably be best. NOTE: Fat people can be strangled, and skinny people can be hanged. I’m simply suggesting that one might be less traumatic for your body type than the other. WHAT HAPPENS IF I LIVE? 008. What happens if I live? What are the dangers and consequences? If you live, you can suffer some really fucked up consequences. Brain damage will set in the moment you become unconscious, and after about 3 minutes if you are recovered, you will most likely be brain dead, but still alive. So, make a living will! Also, if you don’t hang correctly (this goes double for strangulation) you could just end up with a swollen, blue-greyish blood filled face (head), and you’ll be hideous for weeks.
DOES IT HURT? HOW CAN I AVOID PAIN?
009. Strangulation, and hanging, if done correctly, will be completely painless in a physical sense. The metal ring will greatly reduce the pain factor. Let’s go over the things that cause pain. Friction— Tight rope on your neck can burn. For this wrap a light cloth around your neck. Pinching— This is a big problem in strangulation, because you’re going to have to pull very tight, and when you tie a knot, this will pinch the skin. The cloth around your neck will avoid this. In hanging, have the cloth, and position the ligature behind the neck, this will help (and it’s the only way to hang comfortably). Compression of the airway— This hurts like a bitch. This is why the ring is nice. But, you’ll also need to have some supplement padding directly under the ring. 1/4 roll of toilet paper is ideal. If you don’t have a long neck, cut some of the length off. If your neck isn’t wide, use a wash cloth folded so that it cushions, but doesn’t push the rope away too much. Use the wash cloth with strangulation, but don’t use the ring. Also, take a really deep breath before you hang, or strangle, that way you won’t have the desire to breath until long after you pass out, that way you won’t have to deal with the discomfort associated with labored breathing. Also, try to keep keep you tongue in your mouth. You could bite your tongue off. I have heard that you should put some light padding on the back of your neck, too. This will increase the pressure on the sides of your neck. It’s theoretical, and untested, but it sounds good, and I’ll try it. Let’s recap Light cloth surrounding neck wash cloth/1/4 roll of toilet paper, (front and back, in theory) ring (only with hanging. ) hold breath, and keep tongue in mouth.
I LOVE MY (INSERT PERSON THAT WILL FIND YOUR BODY), WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO SEE? IS IT TRAUMATIC.
010. It is totally going to suck for the person that finds your corpse. Maybe not as bad as a 12 gauge blast to the head, but it’s gong to be ugly. Strangulation is not pretty! And seeing a limp body hanging from a rope is going to haunt them forever. you might want to consider doing this away from loved ones. Also, if you’re not claustrophobic, put a pillow case over your head. They’ll know you’re dead. Don’t make them see your dead face.
IS IT OKAY TO DIE A VIRGIN.
I THINK YOU’RE FULL OF SHIT.
012. Good, I don’t want this text to be your sole source for an attempt on your life, go read more, this is only 1 piece of the pie. Go read, go experiment. Anyway, that’s not a question.
YOU HAD A NICE INTRO, COULD YOU EXPLAIN AGAIN THE BODY PARTS WE’LL BE DEALING WITH?
013. Trachea— that rubbery thing in your neck. If you compress it too much, it will suck! Carotid artery— it’s the thing you can feel pulsating under your jaw, compress it and you’ll die quick Jugular veins— The carotid brings blood to the brain, the jugular removes blood. The carotid is working under higher pressure and is harder to compress than the jugular. If you compress the jugular, and not the carotid, you will know it, because it will hurt like hell as blood continues to pump into your head and is unable to escape. Vertebral artery— this little gem need not concern you. It’s really hard to compress, and is not worth it. Don’t worry about it, you will die painlessly without compressing it.
I’M SOOOOO READY TO DIE, AND I’VE READ YOUR STUFF, AM I PREPARED TO SUCCESSFULLY KILL MYSELF?
014. No, this helps, but it’s not everything. Trust yourself, and make any adjustments you see fit. I’m not your body, and I’m not a doctor, this only from the perspective of my body, and I may be leaving something important out. This guide is not definitive.
ISN’T TORI AMOS THE HOTTEST WOMAN ALIVE??
015. Pretty close. Personally, I think Shirley Manson is, but they’re both really easy on the eyes. Looking at pictures of them can be very comforting. Watch the video, ‘I think I’m paranoid’ from Garbage, it’s really hot.
WHY DOES EMINEM SAY ALL THOSE HURTFUL THINGS.
016. He has issues, and he has a lot of money to make. Don’t worry about him, you have more important things in life.
SHOULD HANGING/STRANGULATION BE COMBINED WITH OTHER METHODS?
017. Not that I know of. But, it might be a good idea to tighten the hell out of the ligature before you hang yourself. So, I guess you could say that strangulation goes well with hanging, and vice versa.
WHAT MAKES YOU LIKE THE IDEA OF HANGING SO DAMN MUCH.
018. It can be carried out with household items, and done in the home. It’s very lethal, and unconsciousness can occur in under 9 seconds.
ARE YOU THE DEVIL JESUS WARNED ME ABOUT??
019. Yep. Don’t worry, though, if existence of a God is true, I’m really going to hell for this text.
DO YOU LIKE SARAH MCLACHLAN’S SONG, ADIA?
020. Yep, anything that even alludes to lesbianism is great in my book.
HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE TO CHANGE MY MIND?
021. Very, very little time. you will not be able to change your mind once your vision is fading. Once that happens, your actions will be delayed, and even if you want to change your mind, you’ll be unconscious and ridin’ a bullet to hell before you can get the rope off your neck. You may be wondering, «How much time until my vision begins to fade.» I can’t say conclusively when.. but, in my tests it has taken under 3 seconds.
WHAT PITFALLS SHOULD I AVOID??
022. Avoid living. When you’re unconscious, your body will flail around. If you manage to lift your yourself up enough, you could end up living. So, avoid putting a chair, or an escalator near your hanging site.
HOW CAN I TEST THE INTEGRITY OF THE ROPE/SUPPORT?
023. Tie it to the support, tie the rope around your foot, and jump and push on it. If the support doesn’t break, and the rope doesn’t break, then it will definitely support your partially hanging body.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL I NEED??
WILL THIS BREAK MY MOTHER’S HEART.
025. God yes! If your mother is anything like mine, this will kill her. Call your mother. 🙂
WHERE SHOULD THE LIGATURE BE PLACED??
026. For hanging, at the back of the neck, for strangulation, the first (or only) knot should be at the front of the neck.
AM I READY TO DIE.
027. No, you’re not ready to die, there’s a whole world out there. But, perhaps you are ready to murder yourself. I know I am.
SO, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO SNUFF YOURSELF??
028. I have very flexible plastic twine, the kind you use to tie a Christmas tree to your car (or at least the kind home depot supplies for such a purpose). I have a cut off of a very soft, and mildly cushy blanket to cover my neck. I have some padding for the neck, from the same blanket, and I have a cock ring, I got from a friend (don’t ask, I didn’t want to know if it’s been used. ). And I have 2 candidates as a support. One is the shower curtain rod, it’s very sturdy on the sides, and is a good height, in comparison to my height. The other is a very sturdy desk. The desk is probably the safest bet, but they have their own ups and downs. High can be good, low can be good. I’m not sure which is best, which is why I’m still debating it, so I can’t help you there. I’m going to fasten everything up. Tie the twine, apply the ring. Make the noose. pad, and cover my neck. Put on a good, song. Put, the noose on my neck. Take a deep breath. Bite down, and shift my body so that all the weight is on my neck, and just let go of any muscle control in my arms, then legs, and the rest should take care of itself.
That’s it, that’s what I know. In theory it should work, all it takes now, is the will, and the privacy, and I have the will in spades.

Guide to partially suspended hanging:
Warning: Don’t try this method unless you’re totally sure that:
a) you want to kill yourself
b) that you won’t be found for at least 30 minutes after you attempt.
This method is very lethal and quick (quick from your perspective
anyway, as you black out within seconds), but if you’re found in time
and ‘saved’ you can end up with serious brain damage and/or be left a
vegetable.
Why partial suspension?
Because full suspension seems to me to be unnecessary and creates
difficulties. First of all you need to find a place which would hold
your entire weight, which isn’t easy, and also you need a stronger
ligature, which isn’t always easy to find either. There’s nothing
wrong with full suspension, but it may not be a viable method for
everyone, especially if you’re looking to use everyday materials from
around the home.
By partial suspension I mean that you hang yourself around the neck
(specifically the carotid artery), and push downwards while kneeling.
This should create enough downward pressure on the ligature to tighten
it and close the carotid artery and stop the blood flow to your brain.
All you need is 3 kilograms of pressure to do this, which isn’t much
at all.
Also, with full suspension your entire body weight is pressurizing
your neck, and this would probably be more than enough to not only cut
off the blood supply to your brain, but break your neck as well. I’m
not too sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. I do know though, that
statistically people who’ve attempted via hanging have more often been
found kneeling and partially suspended than being fully suspended.
Where is the carotid artery?
Before you start you have to know this. If you place your hand around
the middle of your neck, around your Adam’s apple, with one thumb on
one side and all fingers on the other, you should feel a strong pulse
and heartbeat. If you close your hand now fairly firmly, you’ll
probably make yourself pass out. It might be a good idea to try this
to make sure you’ve got the right spot.
It may also be a good idea to lubricate the ligature with soap. This
would help the noose tighten even quicker, especially if you’re using
a rough ligature such as a rope. Lubricating it in this way will
increase the friction once you push your head down and tighten the
noose, and could make it a little more effective and faster.
What type of knot?
A slipknot. It’s one of the most basic knots around, and you make it
with one end of your ligature. The other end should go around your
hanging place.
Many people have the misguided idea that a hangman’s knot should be
used, but they’re wrong. A hangman’s knot is for a completely
different purpose, and won’t work for this method.
Where should I hang?
You should hang from a support which will hold part of your weight.
You should test this by tying the loose end of your ligature around
the support several times, sticking your hand (NOT your head) in the
noose and pushing down with it. If the noose holds, you’re fine. If
not, then you’ll have to find another spot.
A great and easy place to hang is from the thick horizontal metal bar
which you find in wardrobes in most homes.
When should I do it?
When no one else will be in the same area, for at least 30 minutes.
You lose consciousness within seconds but your body doesn’t completely
die for around 15-20 minutes. The extra 10-15 minutes is for
preparation time and just in case.
When you’re completely ready, kneel down, stick your head in the
noose, position it around the carotid artery and push downwards with
your head.

Corpses of people who died by carbon monoxide poisoning are probably not as horrific.
You will never know if you succeeded regardless of method. Assuming death is the end, of course, in which case you simply can’t know anything if you succeed, because you will be no more.
My final thought when jumping high enough would be “I know this will kill me.”
My final thought when hanging, “I hope no one walks in too soon.” The uncertainty would make my final moments Hell.

You can only break your neck with a correctly measured long drop, 1.5–3 meter depending on body weight. With a too long drop you will decapitate yourself and block the supply of blood and oxygen that way.
Asphyxiation by pushing the tongue upwards or constricting the trachea to block the airways are equally as important as blocking the carotid arteries and jugular vein. This is especially true in hangings with short or no drop. What gets constricted depends on the force of pressure.

Anyways, I’ve attempted suicide at least 3 times by hanging, because I haven’t learned that it doesn’t work for me. Every time I give up from the dysphoria involved.
When you first put the noose around your neck, you have the realization that you really mean it, and there’s no going back because if you fail, you’ll end up in a mental hospital (which is why I was inactive for a week a little bit back).
It feels super uncomfortable, but not very painful (if it’s backwards then there is no pain) from the pressure on the tracia. It’s not just a light discomfort, it’s really severe dysphoria. If you’ve ever gotten choked, you might have experienced that.
After maybe 10 seconds or so, you start to get lightheaded. You then start to have your hearing fade out, and all you hear is ringing. Your vision then starts to fade out, and then you pass out.
A lot of times there’s an orgasm somewhere in there, but a lot of times it’s after you pass out and all you will experience is maybe light arousal.
Yep. That’s what happens. I don’t recommend it. It sucks.

also stay alive please.

That was the original point, but that requires a long drop.
Also, it’s not really my fault that I have suicidal impulses that are hard to control.
I don’t actually listen to them but whatever.
To everyone: it’s been over two weeks! I haven’t tried to do anything since then… Although the only think keeping me alive is my relationship… It’s almost our 1 year anniversary (dating, not marriage), which is impressive for teenagers.

Like I said, though, I have some meaning in life right now so I’m okay. Maybe. For a little bit at least. The most suicidal of people don’t leave hints in order to allow death as easily as possible (I would know, people thought I was fine the last time I tried).
I wouldn’t post something if I DID want to kill myself right now because that would drop hints, and I would genuinely not want anyone to know.
Life. Depression and hopelessness have been hitting me hard lately.

It sucks.
I have tried to commit suicide as but I failed at that too.
Sometimes it’s scarier to keep living and moving forward then it is to give into the darkness altogether.
I realized that we’re all going to die anyway, at least stay alive and sacrifice for a noble goal then or something. At least when you’re alive, there’s always another sunset, another tomorrow and another chance to try all over again; but if you kill yourself, that’s the final curtain call for good.
The world is a pretty shitty place though, it’s hard to stay positive and think that maybe there is a purpose to it all. At least become a become a revolutionary or something and die fighting for freedom. That’s what I feel like now, if I am going to die it will be for a cause, lol.
\n Do you guys realize that in Mexico, Brazil and Africa, people are being necklaced, butchered, decapitated, executed for no apparent reason?
I saw a young boy, couldn’t have been older than 16, his arms and feet tied, both his hands were chopped off with a machete before they finally decapitated the poor lad. This was in Mexico, carried out by a rival drug cartel gang.
I saw a boy in Africa, not even 13 years old, necklaced. A tire wrapped around his neck and set ablaze simply because he stole a bag of flour to feed his family.
\n I think it would get even more depressing if everyone around you started treating you differently just because you are depressed.
I’m heavily bipolar. Sometimes I like parties and people, talking etc, but after great fun comes great sadness. I sometimes think of suicide, more about cool ways to do it rather than actually doing it. I like being alone and walking through dark forests. And then comes great fun again.
I always seem to have a reason to flip phases. It’s always meeting someone cool or having memories of a failed love. It’s very rhythmic so I think my brain just makes excuses up

Yes. I had to go through nearly dying before second grade. I nearly drowned to death. Then another time I had such bad hypothermia I nearly was hospitalized. And that’s ALL before second grade.
My brain has also put me through awful sh** like psychotic breaks in which I couldn’t function because I was hallucinating so d*** much. I used to lay in bed for hours trying to convince myself that the footsteps I was hearing and the people I was seeing were fake and couldn’t hurt me. I couldn’t tell when sometwas calling my name because I hear voices. That’s what psychotic depression does to you.
I may have only had people try and murder me a couple times, but you think I’ve forgiven them? Now do you understand why I get so f***ing paranoid? No?
Maybe I haven’t gone through torture, but I get uncontrollable impulses to hurt myself, and it gets to the point of torture. I’ve been waterborded by my own brain without wanting to! I’ve nearly died from bleeding, overdose, hanging, and a sh** ton more!
Ugh. Sometimes I need to rant about the things I’ve been through. May the fourth be with you

I wish I had sage advice to give you but mental illness is tough. I have a hard time being Bipolar. Constant doctor visits, wondering if I will run out of meds, etc.
I’ve suffered many losses my friends, my left arm is full of deep gashes I put there with a knife and I have alcoholism to boot.
With that said, please don’t take my advice as me minimizing your troubles, there are people out there that care, I care.

\n Hahaha, I am \»gifted\» (but It was not realized when I was younger) and I get treated like I am insane, and stupid/slow, because I look kind of doleful and as well I am very contemplative. I guess in a sense I am \»slow\» in that I don’t have ADHD, and am always really focused on the present.

this isn’t a who’s got it worse thread. i don’t have to go to Mexico to see stuff like that grew up in the hood. besides the point though. why bring that up at all? everyone has problems and whether they are a big deal or not to others they are to them.

I’ve cut body parts off of myself. I’ve already seen enough gore. The best feeling ever is a razorblade mutilating your legs. Erasers are okay, but only if you don’t have anything else. Fingernails can cut deep too. The people at the hospital were shocked at how deep my fingernails got. You don’t want to see how bad it has gotten. I’ve had scabs that don’t heal for months without picking, just from the sheer deepness. I’m a bit young for alcohol, but I have drank rubbing alcohol as a suicide attempt while on a school field trip.
I have gender dysphoria so I can’t even look at myself in the mirror without feeling severe depression.
Literally the only thing giving my life meaning is my partner, because my razor blade was taken away, or else it would be there too as part of my meaning.
Thank you. Have a nice day, and I hope you never have to go through what I have.

It helped me out of depression, what fagury doesn’t understand is that I’ve been there done that until I see what real people go through.
As bad as this depression is, the better he will feel once he snaps out of it.

I know it’s just dogma.
Like seriously, comparing the worst of what our situations could be individually does not mean that by comparison our problems or challenges are not difficult at all. In fact, it’s just a complete strawman, and is just nonsensical old fashioned dogma or something. I know know idea where it comes from, but it’s just another form of repression that is an attempt to make people put up with or accept tyranny or inequality at any level or form. You can only help others, first after you have helped yourself kind of thing, and that’s usually how it goes anyway.
It’s like going up to a homeless person, who starves a little everyday and puts up with extreme outdoor conditions and the like, cannot bathe or has any modern conveniences and telling it could be worse when in fact the point is that they basically do exist in 3rd world conditions and no there is not actually that much hope for these people. They cannot just \»try harder\» it’s just what they want you to think basically, or keeps this whole facade and image in place and to keep people’s heads down to the grindstone’s all of the time.
\»It could be worse\» almost at times takes on the tone of a threat in a sense, \»well it could be worse\» as you hang a person over a lava pitt or something without explaining that you» fling them into it if they keep complaining, you know? \»it could be worse\» as in, ‘you’re lucky we don’t make it worse for you. ‘
Nah, man. From first hand experience schizophrenia is a lot of fun. The only drawback is like. when you know it’s not real but that doesn’t make it go away. Like, okay guys. I’m trying to sleep. Can you guys just stop staring at me and get a life? They don’t stop staring and you’re just annoyed at them and then you can’t sleep. Other than that it’s pretty great. Like you tell people you’re a schizophrenic and then they get completely scared of you even though you’re completely harmless and they’ll do pretty much anything for you because they’re that afraid. And you can use it as an excuse to get out of pretty much anything. It’s great. Although I guess the other negative is that you’ll never be able to have healthy relationships, romantic or platonic, with like 90% of people you meet, but I figure that at least 90% of people are total shit anyway so it’s really a positive.
It helped me out of depression, what fagury doesn’t understand is that I’ve been there done that until I see what real people go through.
As bad as this depression is, the better he will feel once he snaps out of it.
Your behavior suggests that you haven’t been through anything. If you had, you wouldn’t be being a tosser.
The problem is those doctors that want to give you those atypical antipsychotics. Those are bad for you. Also from experience telling your psychiatrist that feel like you want to burn down the house out the window from his office doesn’t usually go well. I’ve only done that once and don’t plan on doing it again because honestly I wouldn’t be able to find the house street anyway.
The problem is that you can’t date a schizophrenic. You have to let them date you or else it won’t work. We don’t like it the other way around.
Everyone says there’s always someone out there with worse problems than you. But there actually has to be someone out there with the worst problems and someone is probably saying that to them. It doesn’t matter that there are people out there that have worst problems, that doesnt discount anyone elses struggles.
OP i sent you a pm a few days ago about this subject. Like others here have said there are people who care about you, in this thread even. You might think its fake but its not. Suicide has effected a lot of us and if we can help out we are just a click away.
More on the subject of the thread, hanging has always been my biggest fear. I use to watch westerns with my grandfather and always said that would have to be the worst execution (in recent history). Simply because if you dont break your neck you slowly struggle until you pass out and die.
That’s very true. Hearing about other people’s problems doesn’t help at all. Though it would be hard to compete with me on that (though I bet there is someone out there).
How do you access PMs? I’ll have to check. I didn’t realize I had something sent to me… Anyways, its not that I don’t believe that people care, I just… I don’t know how to explain.
Hanging is awful. The dysphoria is one of the reasons I’m still alive… If it felt fine I would be dead right now… Kind of a scary thought. It’s also a bit scary to think that if my partner and I had broken up then I would be dead… I don’t want rhem to feel any worse than they already do. I need to make a joke to cope… I always tell people that I was just HANGing out in the bathroom? I know it’s not funny, but I can’t help it, I have a hard life and it’s easy to make jokes and it relieves a little bit of pain.
Fun fact (just ignore the fun part ): boys are more likely to be successful with suicide by trying more lethal methods, wheras for girls it’s more of a person to person thing.

When you’re completely ready, kneel down, stick your head in the
noose, position it around the carotid artery and push downwards with
your head.

How to Hang ANYTHING
Do you struggle to know how to hang things on your walls? This complete guide to hanging ANYTHING will answer all of your questions and give you the confidence you need to get to hanging!
Hanging things is intimidating.
I started to say it’s hard, but, honestly, it’s not! It just seems hard. It requires planning and prep work and patience and I’m generally short on all three of those things, so sometimes it’s a project that can feel hard when it’s really very simple.
I recently asked on Instagram what your most burning super simple DIY questions are. The kind of questions you’d be almost embarrassed to ask because it just seems like everyone already knows the answer but you.
There were tons of fabulous questions that rolled in, but there was one in particular I saw over and over.
How do you hang things?
There were dozens of variations on this question. How do you hang shelves? How do you ensure art is straight? How do you know where to hang things?
So, here we are. Let’s do a deep dive on how to hang anything and everything we can think of, along with all of my favorite tools and tricks to make the job easier!
How to hang anything in your home
favorite tools
Here are some of the things I recommend having on hand if you plan to hang things. You won’t need all of these for every hanging job, of course, but if it’s your mission to fill your home with art, shelving, and more, you’ll probably want everything on this list at one point or another!
the basics: Hanging ART
Now that you know what tools are good to have at your disposal, let’s dive into the specifics!
I’ll note that my experience is specifically with hanging things in drywall. If you have plaster, brick, or other types of walls you’ll have a slightly different experience. I’ll address that below, though, so no stress!
The first thing we’ll do is a very general overview of the process for hanging art. This will apply to pretty much anything, though, so once you know the basic steps you can tweak them to meet your specific needs!
STEP ONE: Determine where to hang it.
Of course, your first step is always to figure out where you want to hang something. There are no hard and fast rules for where things should go, it’s just a matter of what you like. But, I can give you some general guidance to get you started.
If you’re hanging something…
Of course, in general, rules are made to be broken! Use these numbers as a starting point, then hold the art up to the wall and see what you think. If you think it needs to go up or down, go with your gut. You’re the one who has to look at it all the time, so make sure you like it!
STEP TWO: Measure and mark
Next up, you need to measure all the things to determine where to drill the holes for your piece.
Start by figuring out the general placement (see step one), and then using your stud finder to find out where the studs are. Use a pencil to lightly mark where the studs are in the walls.
If you have some wiggle room with where you place it (for example, if you can scoot your console table down three inches so that the art lines up perfectly with a stud), then I’d recommend adjusting so that you’re able to drill into a stud. if not, no worries, we’ll address that in a minute!
Now, you could do a whole bunch of measuring, marking, and stressing about where to drill your holes. Or, you could use the easy method.
The painter’s tape hanging method!
Grab some painter’s tape and place it across the back of your art. Then, grab a pencil or a screwdriver and poke holes in the tape where the screws will need to go. Poke as many holes in the tape as there will be screws.
Once you’ve marked where the screws will need to be, pull the tape off the piece and place it on the wall at the correct height. To find this, you’ll need to determine the height of the top of the piece using the guidelines from step one, then subtract the distance from the top of the piece to the hanging mechanism.
For example, let’s say you’re hanging a piece of art at eye level (around 57″), and the art is 36″ tall. The top of the art needs to sit at 75″ (because the center of the art needs to be 57″, so if you add half of the height of the art – 18″ – to that, you’ll get 75″).
Let’s say the hanging mechanism on your art sits 3 1/2″ down from the top of the art. Subtract that from 75″ to determine that your screws need to sit at 71.5″.
Once you know how high it needs to be, place the painter’s tape at the correct height and the spot you want the art to hang. Use a level to make sure you place it level on the wall.
Then, move on to step three!
STEP THREE (NO STUDS): Add anchors
If you’re just hanging a piece of art that weighs less than a couple of pounds, you’re fine to use a screw without an anchor (even if you can’t hit a stud!). But if you’re hanging something on the heavier side (or something you want to be positive won’t fall off the wall), anchors are a good idea, unless you’re able to drill into studs.
I won’t get too into the details here because it varies depending on the anchors you’re using, but I recommend that if you’re a beginner you stick to these anchors that you can drill directly into the wall using your drill!
Just drill the anchors directly through the tape and into the wall. Then, you’re ready to add screws!
STEP THREE (STUDS): Pre-drill holes
If you’re drilling into studs, you’ll want to pre-drill holes in your wall to make things easier. Grab a drill bit that’s about the same width as the screws you’re using and pre-drill a hole in the wall in the spot you’ve marked. Be sure to drill all the way until you can feel that you’ve gone into the stud a bit!
STEP FOUR: Add screws and hang!
Now, all that’s left to do is add some screws into the holes you’ve drilled (or into your anchors), leaving them sticking out enough so that the hanging mechanism can catch on them, and hang your art!
ALTERNATIVE METHOD:
I think it’s worth mentioning that I’ve started playing around with these super simple picture hangers, and they’re really easy to use! They don’t work with all art, but I’d keep some on hand, and if you can use it, DO IT! You literally just push it into the wall where you’d normally place a screw (like, with your hand – you don’t even need a hammer!), and hang your art. It takes three seconds and it holds up fabulously. This won’t work for every art piece, though, so I think it’s worth knowing the full process too!
THE BASICS: HANGING SHELVING
Have a shelf to hang? Well, now that you’ve learned how to hang art, this will be a breeze.
Just like with art, your first step is to determine where you’ll hang it. If at all possible, you’ll want the brackets for your shelves to go directly into studs – heavy duty anchors will work fine if you can’t (just double-check the weight they can hold!), but studs are your best friend when it comes to shelving!
Generally speaking, your shelf should be about 4-5 feet from the ground. If it’s above something, shoot for somewhere in the range of 10-12″ above the piece. Again – these rules are not hard and fast! They’re just there to give you a starting point so you can tweak and adjust as needed.
STEP ONE: Measure and mark for the first bracket
I’m going to assume you’re working with a shelf with brackets, here. Assuming that’s the case, once you’ve determined the height of the top of your shelf, subtract the height of the shelf itself from that number to determine where the top of your bracket should be. For example, if you’re hanging the shelf at 4′ and the shelf itself is 3″ thick, you’ll want the top of your bracket at 45″ from the ground.
Find the studs in the area where you’ll be hanging your shelf. Again, if at all possible, I’d recommend installing the brackets in the studs. If it’s just not gonna work, use anchors that can handle a lot of weight..
Hold the bracket up in place, use a small level to make sure it’s straight, and use a pen or sharp pencil to mark the wall through the holes on the bracket.
STEP TWO: Hang, then measure & hang the second bracket
Pre-drill (and install anchors, if necessary), then screw the first bracket into the wall.
Then, determine the placement for the second bracket. Bracket placement can be complicated depending on the material you’re using for your shelf. This post breaks it down really well! But, generally speaking it’s a good idea to place your brackets no more than 6-ish inches from the outside of your shelves.
Hold your bracket up at the appropriate distance from the first bracket, then place your long level on your first bracket and adjust the second one until they’re level with one another. Mark the holes, pre-drill, and install the bracket!
STEP THREE: Add your shelf
Once your brackets are hung, you can place your shelf on top, and attach it! Most brackets have you screw into the shelf from underneath – but if there’s a different method of hanging the shelf, the brackets themselves will probably come with directions!
And with that basic knowledge, my friends, you should be able to tweak it slightly to hang ANYTHING in your home!
I’m going to answer a few of the most frequently-asked questions below, so if you are still confused, keep reading! And, if I don’t answer your question just leave a comment below so I can update the post over time.
How to hang…
Frequently asked questions about hanging things
how do I hang things on plaster walls?
I had to do a little research myself for this one as I’ve never worked with plaster walls. Here’s what I learned: most light art can be hung in plaster walls using just one simple screw (nails + plaster aren’t usually a good combo, so stick to screws!). If you have something heavier, you’ll need to use anchors, just like with drywall. The key difference is you don’t want to use self-drilling anchors with plaster walls. Grab the kind that require you to pre-drill a hole and tap the anchor into place and you should be good to go!
What about brick walls/exterior walls?
You’ll need a masonry bit to pre-drill your holes, and I’d recommend using these anchor screws. If possible, drill into the mortar and not the brick (it’s easier to drill into, but it’ll also hold up better).
For lightweight items, you can try these hard wall hangers or these brick hangers!
Isn’t there a simpler approach?
Sure! For most lightweight art, you can just hammer a nail into the drywall and hang it from that. I’ve done this with small pieces over the years and it works just fine. But, if you have something a little more heavy duty or want to be sure it really stands up over time, you’ll want to use the method I outline above.
Command Strips can also be a really great tool for smaller, lightweight art (and they’re super renter-friendly!).
I made a mistake! How do I patch my drywall?
I wrote a post all about how to patch small holes in drywall right here – I promise it’s simple! But, to be honest, if the art you’re hanging will cover up your mistake, it’s fine to leave it and wait to patch until you take the art down someday. No one will know it’s there!
