Steps to convert a file to PDF:

Sign in to Acrobat Web https://documentcloud.adobe.com with your Adobe ID and password, or with your social (Facebook or Google) account.

In the top navigation bar, click Convert > Convert To PDF.

To select the files that you want to convert, do one of the following and then click Continue:

The selected file is uploaded to the server, converted to PDF, and then it’s ready for download. A preview of the converted file is displayed. Click the Download icon to save the file on your computer or device. On the right-pane, you can access the Convert, Edit, and Sign tools to perform further action on the PDF if required.

All the files you convert are stored in your Adobe Document Cloud account. The Recent section at the bottom area of the home page lists all the files you’ve exported recently. Alternatively, to see the list of all your files, click Documents in the top-menu bar.

PDFs are great for sharing your work. There are free PDF readers available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and PDF file retain their formatting no matter where they’re displayed. Best of all, you can quickly create PDFs from other documents in Windows using tools you already have.

Creating a PDF in Windows is extremely easy, whether you’re building one out of word documents, web pages, images, or whatever else you have.

Create a PDF from Anything Using Windows 10’s Built-In PDF Printer

Windows 10 features a built-in print driver that converts documents to PDF. It’s super easy to use, too. All you have to do is print the document the way you usually would, and then choose the PDF option as your printer. We say document, but really, you can convert anything you would usually print to a PDF—text files, images, web pages, Office documents, whatever.

For our example here, we’re going to create a PDF from one a text file. That’s not something you’re likely to do, but it’s a simple way to show the process using the default Windows Print window. It’s going to look a bit different depending on the app from which you’re printing, but the process is pretty much the same no matter what the source.

Start by selecting the “Print” command in whatever app you’re using.

Next, you’ll be changing the printer. Again, this is how it looks in the default Windows Print window. It will look different in different apps, but the option will still be there. When you’ve selected the PDF printer, go ahead and print the document.

When you print, Windows will open up a standard Save As window for you to name and save your new PDF. So, go ahead and give it a great name, choose your save location, and then hit that “Save” button.

You now have an amazing PDF to share.

Combine Multiple Images into a Single PDF

Here’s another quick tip for you. If you have a bunch of images (or other documents) that you’d like to combine into a single PDF document, you can do that right from File Explorer.

Select all the files you want to combine, right-click any of them, and then choose the “Print” command from the context menu.

Note: The order your images appear in File Explorer is the order they will show up in your PDF. If you want them in a different order, rename the images before combining them.

Next, make sure “Microsoft Print To PDF” is selected from the list of available printers, and then click “Print” to save the PDF to your hard drive.

Create a PDF from an Existing Word Document

If you have Microsoft Word and you want to convert it to a PDF, you’re better off doing that from Word than using Windows’ built-in PDF printer because Word does a better job of retaining the layout and formatting of your document during conversion.

With your Word document open, click the “File” menu on the Ribbon.

On the sidebar that opens, click the “Save As” command.

Now, all you have to do is give your file a name, select “PDF” from the dropdown menu, and then click the “Save” button.

How to create a PDF

A PDF looks the same on every computer and mobile device—it’s the closest thing we have to digital paper. And while PDFs used to be hard to make, now every computer and mobile device can make them easily.

Here’s the easiest way to create a PDF on any device. We’ll also tell you how to automatically turn something into a PDF by dragging a file into a particular folder.

Create a PDF on a Windows PC

First check if the app you’re using includes a PDF export option, as Microsoft Office and other professional software often do. Those export tools will usually let you set your PDF quality, secure PDFs with a password, and set other document options.

Otherwise, press the default print button—or tap Ctrl+P on a PC—and you should be able to find a hidden PDF option. In Windows 10, click the Printer dropdown menu, then select the Save as PDF option. This is a virtual printer of sorts, and it makes a PDF file. Choose how to format your document, as shown above, then click Save, and Windows will ask where you want to save the PDF file.

Tip: This is a Windows 10 feature that older versions don’t have. If you’re using Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 8, you can install a PDF Printer like the free CutePDF—it works the same way.

Create a PDF on a Mac

In macOS, there are many PDF options inside the default Print dialog. Press the Print button or menu bar option, or use the command+P keyboard shortcut. In the lower-left corner of the print dialog, click the PDF menu. You can choose to save the PDF file, open it in Preview to edit or preview the document, or add the PDF to supported apps on your Mac like Evernote.

Create a PDF on iOS and Android

Android and iOS include similar options to create PDF files.

In Android, open the Share menu, then use the Print option. Choose Save as PDF as your printer.

In iOS, tap the Share button in an app, then tap the Options panel at the top.

This will bring up the Send As menu, where you should choose Reader PDF.

You can now share this PDF using any application, including cloud storage services.

Convert any file to a PDF with CloudConvert
