Playmobil How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Playsets, Review + Giveaway
In this household we love Playmobil. We also love the Dreamworks How to Train Your Dragon movies and TV shows. So, I’m sure you’re not surprised to learn that I was ridiculously excited when I first found out that there are Playmobil How to Train Your Dragon playsets!
Toys based off of the How to Train Your Dragon shows? Cool dragons? Characters from my kids’ favourite movie/cartoon? I mean you’ve got me right there. And then add in the fact that it’s Playmobil? How could this not be a win?

I was totally thrilled when they announced that new toys based on the latest film, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, would be coming out, and even more excited when Playmobil agreed to send us a few sets to check out.
We are huge How to Train Your Dragon fans. From the books to the films and TV shows, my kids love the franchise and so do I. (Heck, I even wrote up a guide on what order to watch all of the various HTTYD movies and TV episodes in).
So it’s not surprising that these toys would be a hit with my kids. I knew they would love them and I loved being able to be the “cool mom” that handed this box of joy over to them. We even made an unboxing video, just for fun:
And check out how sweet these figures are! (Ok, yes, I get genuinely excited about this stuff. My dirty secret: I loved Playmobil, and collected some pieces as gifts from my husband, long before we had kids of our own).
Playmobil Set 70038 (Light Fury with baby Night Fury and kids).
Little viking kid figures — too cute! My children were totally enchanted with the fish. They loved that the fish were all different sizes, that they had a wee bit of bend to them and that they could feed them to the dragons.

Hiccup has a flaming sword! He also has two sets of hair, so you can swap between flowy-hair-looking hair and indented-around-the-sides-so-he-can-wear-a-helmet hair.
The dragons are adorable, of course. The large dragons have wings that pivot and flap (much like the Playmobil pegasus figures). At first, after my girls put it together, the wings would fall out. You need to get a grown up to really snap the wings in and then you’re all set.
I have mixed feeling on the fact that this toy takes batteries and lights up. The grumpy part of me feels that Playmobil shouldn’t need batteries. But… this is one cool looking dragon and my kids love taking Toothless into a darkened room and making him swoop around.
I also have mixed feelings on toys that include projectiles. But… these are well designed, pretty harmless, and again my girls sure do seem to enjoy playing at having their dragons target various inanimate objects.
Playmobil Set 70044 (Fishlegs with Flight Suit).
Fishlegs! In Playmobil form! He even has shorter legs than the average Playmobil figure, to make him more… er… Fishlegs-shaped. That wee baby gronckle is so darn cute. I love how the armor snaps on and off. So much play value here for such a low price point set.
So, what do you guys think? Are these playsets not fantastic? My kids have been having so much fun with them. As always, Playmobil is one of the few toys where my daughters will 1)use their big imaginations to fuel wild adventures and 2) actually play together and not just bicker.
