According to Fowler’s Dictionary of Modern English Usage, which is a standard grammar reference book, the compounds that derive from the word «any» such as «anyone», «any way», «anyhow», «anymore» or the rare, «anywise» are all singular.
According to the Oxford Learner’s Dictionary, here:
«any» can be used with uncountable or plural nouns in questions
The Oxford Learner’s Dictionary does recognize that «any» can be used with singular nouns when it does not matter which one, such as in:
The website referred to in the query is correct.
There is a difference of meaning in the two examples stated in the query.
The first sentence,
is something a teacher would ask a group of students in order to make sure an explanation is clear.
The second sentence,
would mean the same as the previous example if «a» was substituted for «any». But as the sentence stands, it is a little unusual. It could be understood to be regarding the questioning of a person’s guilt or innocence. «Doubt» would be a better word instead of «question» in this context.
The word «question» in the second sentence could be understood to mean «controversy», but this would also not be the usual construction.
Writing Skills Tone Tip
It’s important to let people know that you are available to provide more help, additional information, answer questions, or clarify information. Here’s a writing skills tone tip.
“Please let me know if you need any further explanations.” – This is okay, but the tone could be better. Using “explanations”, in a subtle way could sound like someone has inconvenienced you in some way. It’s better to say “clarification”, “additional information”, or “questions”. Telling someone that they need “explanations” could, in a subtle way, sound as though you think the person needs “explanations” because they can’t figure something out on their own. It would not necessarily be taken that way, but it could be taken that way.
Here are some suggestions and possibilities.
1. If there is anything else you need, please, let me know.
2. If I can be of any further assistance, please, let me know.
3. If there is anything else I can do for you, please, don’t hesitate to let me know.
4. Please, feel free to let me know if you require any further information.
5. If I can be of any further help, please, call or send an email.
6. If I may be of any further assistance, please, let me know.
7. If you require additional information, please, let me know.
8. If you have any additional questions or require further clarification, please, do not hesitate to call me or send me an email.
9. Please, let me know if you require additional information or further clarification regarding this matter.
10. If you have any other questions or would like me to clarify anything else, please, let me know. I am always glad to help in any way I can.
These statements are more casual and sound less formal.
1. Let me know if you need anything else.
2. If you need any other information, just let me know.
3. If you have any questions, just let know.
4. If I can do anything else for you, just let me know.
5. Call or send an email anytime if you need anything else.
6. If there’s anything else you need, just let me know.

Contact me if you have ANY QUESTIONS or ANY QUESTION?
When writing work emails, we often sign off with a polite “please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.” But is it ANY QUESTIONS or ANY QUESTION?
The problem: any question vs. any questions
If you have to write emails for work, you have probably come across this issue: should the word “any” be followed by a singular or plural noun?
Expressions like “let me know if you have any questions” or “contact me if you have any queries” are the norm, but using the same noun in its singular form (any question, any query) is now commonplace. Is this wrong?
The answer is a bit more complicated than just right or wrong; while it is not necessarily incorrect to use a singular noun after the word “any”, there is a slight difference in the meaning of the sentence. Let’s take a closer look at the following expressions:
Which one should I use?
[ctt template=”1″ link=”pccb8″ via=”no” ]“Do you have any questions?” and “Do you have any question?” are similar, but different in meaning. Read more on https://goo.gl/SH0pRx [/ctt]
When in doubt, think about the meaning you want to convey. Do you want to say “send me an email if you have queries in general ”, or “call me if you have any type of query ”? Depending on your purpose, you’ll need to use either the plural or singular form of the noun.
